Sa O. Knap Mergence and Adaptation of Scrum and Extreme Programming

Responsiveness to the requirements of the client and as accurate an estimate of duration of the project as possible are essential components of software development. Traditional software development methodologies are inappropriate for fast agile development, especially in small companies. The purpose of this work is to present the mergence of two agile software development methodologies applied to the case of a company to correspond with the new development process, and to give reasons for transferring to the new agile development method. This work begins with a presentation of the review and history of classic development methodologies, and continues with a detailed description of new agile development methodologies, especially Scrum and extreme programming. The last chapter concentrates on the merge of the two methodologies and their adaptation to the development of small companies.

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: The first step during the software development, requirements engineering, is very critical because of the high effort (in time and costs) that has to be made to correct mistakes detected later that have been made in this early phase of software life-cycle. In order to support the aim of high-quality software, the goals of requirements engineering are developing a complete as possible specification, providing integrated representation formalisms and accomplishing a common agreement on the specification. The very first activity that has to be passed through is requirements elicitation. There are existing three main problems: the problem of defining the scope, the problem of understanding the users’ needs and the problem of requirements volatility over time. You can follow several heuristics and guidelines to find solutions to these problems. In addition, several techniques and methodologies have been suggested to support the process of requirements elicitation. They differ in several ways: the kind of problem they intend to solve, the methods used for achieving this aim, the kind of people involved, the level of abstraction and precision the requirements have to be formulated in. In this report, a selection of these techniques and methodologies is chosen and they are classified into a classification scheme worked out. Stefan Luckhaus Book Series Increasing Productivity of Software Development, Part 2. Management Model, Cost Estimation and KPI Improvement

Book Series: "Increasing Productivity of Software Development":In software development, productivity is a measure of how much functionality can be developed in a given time and in compliance with specified quality criteria. If an increase in productivity succeeds, this increases the scope of the developed functionality and reduces the required time. Both features are desirable because software is the stuff innovations are made of. IT haschanged almost all areas of life thanks to fundamental innovations. Our future will be dominated by virtualization and smart helpers, that is, devices equipped with intelligence. This makes software development a key competence. Today, for companies that develop software, productivity as well as time and quality, are critical success factors.By introducing standards and automation, productivity in software development has been demonstrably increased by a factor of 20. The reutilization of functional and technical components has already enabled measurements of a factor of 100. Such performance differences are only reproducible by measurements and the consistent use of measurement results within a management modeldesigned for continuous optimization.Part 2:Management Model, Cost Estimation and KPI Improvement:This book describes a model based on three key performance indicators:productivity (measured using the measurement methods described in the first book), cost and quality. It explains their cyclical collection, analytical evaluation ...

In particular, this paper provides an overview of currently developed software types by examining existent taxonomies and classification approaches in this field. Additionally, taxonomy development procedures will be analyzed, and it will be investigated whether there exists a well-recognized taxonomy development procedure in information systems and software engineering.Nowadays, more and more problems in business and in everyday life are solved by software. While our grandparents know almost all the streets they live in by heart, our generation uses navigation software on mobile devices to get from one place to another place that is only a few kilometers away. 20 years ago, nobody could imagine such a digital world we are living in today. Mehdi Shafaeddin Competitiveness and Development. Myth and Realities

In 'Competitiveness and Development', the author explains the confusion surrounding the concept of competitiveness in the context of developing countries; proposes policies for achieving competitiveness at a high level of development; examines its possibilities and constraints; and suggests policy changes necessary at the national and international levels. Shafaeddin illustrates how developed countries impose restrictive policies on developing countries through international financial institutions and the WTO, as well as regional and bilateral agreements, which limit their policy space for promoting dynamic comparative advantage in order to achieve competitiveness at a high level of development. Ultimately, such policies lock developing countries that are at early stages of development in specialization based on static comparative advantage and competitiveness at a low level of development.

Projektarbeit aus dem Jahr 2013 im Fachbereich Informatik - Wirtschaftsinformatik, Note: 1,3, Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg (VAWi), Veranstaltung: Global Information Technology Management, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: According to Gartner (Pettey, 2012) the worldwide IT-outsourcing services spending surpassed $251 Billion in 2012. As software is of such great importance for the success of businesses, many organizations began to outsource development or started to create remotely located - so called offshore - software development subsidiaries. Reasons for this trend are according to Herbsleb and Moitra (2001) that businesses seek proximity to the growing markets in order to benefit from the knowledge about customers and local conditions. But there is a high risk of a failure for endeavors of companies that conduct global software development (GSD) - especially when the Global distance (geographical, temporal, linguistic or cultural distance) of customers, vendors or development teams is high. Risks and challenges are multiplied in the GSD context. For example the risk of a communication breakdown or lack of trust that leads to low efficiency because of rework or later delivery of the project. With a market share of almost 53% the United States is the biggest software market (IDC, 2012). India is a huge outsourcing and offshoring destination (DiamondCluster International, 2005). But the cultural gap between America and India is big. Carmel and Abbott (2007) call India "...

Why another book on software project management? For some time, the fields of project management, computer science, and software development have been growing rapidly and concurrently. Effective support for the enterprise demands the merging of these efforts into a coordinated discipline, one that incorporates best practices from both systems development and project management life cycles. Robert K. Wysocki creates that discipline in this book–a ready reference for professionals and consultants as well as a textbook for students of computer information systems and project management. By their very nature, software projects defy a «one size fits all» approach. In these pages you will learn to apply best-practice principles while maintaining the flexibility that's essential for successful software development. Learn how to make the planning process fit the need * Understand how and why software development must be planned on a certainty-to-uncertainty continuum * Categorize your projects on a four-quadrant model * Learn when to use each of the five SDPM strategies–Linear, Incremental, Iterative, Adaptive, and Extreme * Explore the benefits of each strategic model and what types of projects it supports best * Recognize the activities that go into the Scoping, Planning, Launching, Monitoring/Controlling, and Closing phases of each strategy * Apply this knowledge to the specific projects you manage * Get a clear picture of where you are and how to get where you want to go

Design quality SAS software and evaluate SAS software quality SAS Data Analytic Development is the developer’s compendium for writing better-performing software and the manager’s guide to building comprehensive software performance requirements. The text introduces and parallels the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) software product quality model, demonstrating 15 performance requirements that represent dimensions of software quality, including: reliability, recoverability, robustness, execution efficiency (i.e., speed), efficiency, scalability, portability, security, automation, maintainability, modularity, readability, testability, stability, and reusability. The text is intended to be read cover-to-cover or used as a reference tool to instruct, inspire, deliver, and evaluate software quality. A common fault in many software development environments is a focus on functional requirements—the what and how—to the detriment of performance requirements, which specify instead how well software should function (assessed through software execution) or how easily software should be maintained (assessed through code inspection). Without the definition and communication of performance requirements, developers risk either building software that lacks intended quality or wasting time delivering software that exceeds performance objectives—thus, either underperforming or gold-plating, both of which are undesirable. Managers, customers, and other decision makers should also understand the dimensions of software quality both to define performance requirements at project outset as well as to evaluate whether those objectives were met at software completion. As data analytic software, SAS transforms data into information and ultimately knowledge and data-driven decisions. Not surprisingly, data quality is a central focus and theme of SAS literature; however, code quality is far less commonly described and too often references only the speed or efficiency with which software should execute, omitting other critical dimensions of software quality. SAS® software project definitions and technical requirements often fall victim to this paradox, in which rigorous quality requirements exist for data and data products yet not for the software that undergirds them. By demonstrating the cost and benefits of software quality inclusion and the risk of software quality exclusion, stakeholders learn to value, prioritize, implement, and evaluate dimensions of software quality within risk management and project management frameworks of the software development life cycle (SDLC). Thus, SAS Data Analytic Development recalibrates business value, placing code quality on par with data quality, and performance requirements on par with functional requirements.

Alfons Unmüßig Software Defect Prevention for better Software Quality

Scientific Essay from the year 2012 in the subject Computer Science - Commercial Information Technology, , language: English, abstract: AbstractThis work aims to propose a qualitative "starter model" for a new software defect prevention for better Software Quality. Software defect prevention methods and models have made substantial progress in recent years. But this still falls short of the needs of today and the future. One contribution is a qualitative model that takes into account key determinants and their interlinked effects. The model is based on System Dynamics and the elements involved in the software development process, e.g. the human being, management, members of staff, work psychology, quality, methods, organizations, customer, culture etc. Current research status comprises 15 identified important key determinants, their respective strength, interrelationships and dynamics. The model is operationalized with a software tool capable of modelling all the key determinants defined, their effect directions and other data of the comprehensive matrix they make up. With the research results made, the new defect prevention model shows promise. The research is due to continue further in order to contribute to improved defect prevention in the software development process. The number of key determinants, their respective strength etc. be will be 140 in the final research work. Keywords: Systemic, software, software development, Software-quality, defects, defect prevent...

Tracy (1995, p. 19) emphasises in his book that in the twenty-first century, tomorrow will be more different from today than in the past. Therefore today's corporations get to stay innovative, reinvent themselves continuously and have to design new business. In contrast to that, software mastery becomes more than ever the key factor for business success (Northrop, 2008, p. 12). In the twenty-first century, software pervades every sector and has become the bottom line for many organisations. Therefore, reusability plays a growing role for every business in today's rapid changing world (Strahringer, 2003, p. 5). Thus, new paradigms in software engineering are focusing on the reutilisation and modularisation of software solutions. One innovative and growing concept since 2003 is software line development which has its origin in the automotive and fashion industry (Strahringer, 2003, p. 5). The key benefit of software line development is the covering of a wide field of application with minimal extra costs by reuse of a common software platform. In reference to Ebert & Smouts (2003, p. 29) the most publications in the field of software lines deal with configuration and change management. Whereas the integration of software line development into enterprises' product portfolios has been till now widely neglected. In contrast to that Jeffery & Leliveld (2004) points out that the failure or success of software lines highly depends in particular on their level of in...

Stefan Luckhaus Cost Estimation in Agile Software Development

Whenever software is developed based on contracts with binding agreed conditions it is exposed to risks; conditions such as the delivery of a clearly defined functional scope at a fixed price and at an agreed delivery date. Many of these risks can be mitigated by the principles of agile development. Being able to navigate projects within all agreed parameters requires cost estimation methods to be integrated into planning and controlling processes. In order to prevent these methods from eroding the advantages of agile development, they must be rapidly applicable - ideally automatable - and allow for self-calibration after every sprint. This book illustrates, how size metrics can be utilised profitably in software development processes oriented towards agile values. It points out differences and restrictions, how the accuracy of cost estimations can be increased with each sprint and examines the feasibility of automated measurements.

Arren Bennet Lawrence Comparative Characterization in the Sermon on the Mount

The Sermon on the Mount contains many comparisons. In this book, the functions of these comparisons are studied by the methodology called comparative characterization. Characterization is the way a character is characterized in a narrative. Comparative characterization is the characterization of a character using comparisons. In comparative characterization, another character is used as a foil to bring out a characteristic trait of a concerned character. Jesus characterized the ideal disciple in the Sermon on the Mount with many descriptions and imperatives. To characterize the ideal disciple Jesus used many comparisons and highlighted the characteristic features that embody the ideal disciple. The many comparisons used in the Sermon on the Mount are identified in this study through comparative characterization. In addition, the teleological purpose of the comparisons, which is to play as foil to the characterization of the ideal disciple, is identified and highlighted. Thus, this study identifies Jesus' characterization of the ideal disciple and his complex portrayal of the ideal disciple with the many uses of comparisons in the descriptions and imperatives of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount.""Bennet Arren Lawrence uses literary, narrative, and comparative characterization methods at their best in his analysis of the Sermon on the Mount. After establishing a deeper knowledge about the teaching of Jesus, he endeavors to foreground the ideal disciple embedded withi...

In the software development life cycle, changes are inevitable. The software system evolves as changes in the environment and requirements are incorporated in the system. If these changes are not managed properly, the architecture of the software deteriorates and leads to architecture erosion. This study is an effort to address the problem of architecture erosion and to keep the software architecture live and up to date. In this study we propose a method to minimize or avoid architecture erosion. It is based on the concept of architecture vision that is the ideal representation of the architecture of the software in hand. All the activities of this method revolve around the efforts to keep the architecture of the software aligned with an architecture vision. The iterative nature of the method and synchronization of the implemented architecture with the architecture vision helps to detect and reduce architecture erosion. This method does not conflict with or replaces any development or management process or method (like RUP, agile, water fall etc), but exists parallel to them.

OSISA, ECF-SADC Election Management Bodies in Southern Africa. Comparative study of the electoral commissions. contribution to electoral processes

Over the past two decades, Southern African countries have entrenched the use of elections as the only means and medium for electing governments and representative institutions in governance. Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) are central to the delivery and quality of elections. These institutions are mandated to manage most or all aspects of the electoral process. Informed by diverse factors - the design, mandate, extent of powers and even the number of institutions responsible for electoral matters vary in each country. This study is a collaborative effort between the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA), the Open Society Foundation’s Africa Regional Office (AfRO) and the Electoral Commissions Forum of the Southern African Development Community (ECF-SADC). For each of the 12 countries, the research covered: Comparative analysis of the legal frameworks the EMBs operate under and of the historical and political contexts they function within; Comparative study of the institutional nature of the EMBs; Assessment of the powers vested in the EMBs in the conduct and management of electoral processes and their role in the drafting of electoral laws, managing electoral operations, certifying and proclaiming electoral results, ensuring that electoral results are credible, and in resolving electoral conflicts; and Comparative assessment of the independence of the EMBs with particular reference to funding and their relationships with the executive, political parties, pa...

Michael Seibold European Tennis. A Comparative Analysis of Talent Identification and Development (TID).

In this wide-ranging book, Michael Seibold critically examines and assesses how Talent Identification and Development (TID) programmes for tennis are organised and implemented. He compares the views of key actors involved in TID practice: players, coaches, administrators, and parents in four selected European countries. Seibold's study is based upon a multi-disciplinary and comparative research design, using both quantitative and qualitative research strategies. The results show large gaps between theory and practice of TID, indicating that tennis is likely to remain a socially exclusive sport and to become even more so within the next few years and will remain limited to children from families with above-average financial backgrounds. Michael Seibold suggests that environmental factors should form a part of every TID programme. Any TID must be looked upon as an ongoing longitudinal dynamical process. A centrally operating talent development commission, following clear published guidelines, is of crucial importance. Seibold's book gives a real inside view into the TID programmes in tennis from the point of view of an expert who has been working many years as a national and international tennis coach and as sports expert as part of the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Solidarity Programme. It will help the reader to understand more about TID in tennis in general and support coaches, parents, players, and administrators in developing and optimising a progra...

Offshore software development outsourcing (OSDO) is an important paradigm in global software development. OSDO is a well known business strategy adopted by many organisations in developed countries by outsourcing their software development work to low-wages countries to get high quality software development at low cost. However, outsourcing is not a risk free business. Vendor organisations need to address a number of factors for successful outcomes of the outsourcing relationships. Knowledge sharing management (KSM)is one of the key area in outsourcing projects that is to be addressed by vendor organisations for successful outcomes. Systematic Literature Review (SLR) is based on a structured protocol, and is therefore, different from ordinary literature review. SLR provides in-depth, more thorough and comparatively unbiased results than ordinary literature review. Our findings reveal a number of critical success factors (CSFs), for vendor organisations in addressing the KSM activities. These CSFs are: face-to-face meetings, appropriate trainings, mutual trust, adoption of innovative technologies, language and cultural awareness and proper documentation.

Responding to environmental problems is becoming an increasing priority of the world's population. As the developed world has pushed the boundaries of economic development, it is also principally responsible for many global environmental issues. Sustainable development has emerged as a potential solution to these problems, but is often so vague in definition, it provides little help. How then are we to affect change on environmental issues? This book seeks to answer such a question through a comparative case study, examining the differences between Canadian and German approaches to climate change and material waste disposal policy. The project works through the sustainable development literature and utilizes The Natural Step framework to make policy recommendations. It is the goal of this book to provide policymakers, interest groups and citizens alike with tools to improve the state of the environment everywhere.
