The study assessed the utility of the professional relationships of the mentor, student teacher and lecturer in pre-service teacher preparation in Zimbabwe. Using a descriptive survey design within a case study, through questionnaires and interviews on a sample of 80 host teachers, 32 lecturers and 75 student teachers, data was collected from the three principal parties in the mentoring scheme in three teachers colleges in the Masvingo province of Zimbabwe. The empirical investigation revealed that the tripartite student teacher mentoring scheme, though with high hopes of yielding fruitful results, was flawed with gaps and challenges, rendering the quality of the student teachers' school based professional training some-what wanting. Promising initiatives, especially to do with more dialogue between lecturers and host teachers on aspects of host teaching,as measures to mitigate the challenges were suggested.

Business Professionals, to be Truly Effective and Advance in their Careers, Must Master their People-Centric Skills. People-Centric Skills: Interpersonal and Communication Skills for Auditors and Business Professionals is a comprehensive guide to the «soft skills» that make technical professionals more effective. People-Centric Skills aim to improve all aspects of personal interactions, relationship development, and communication. These skills are as essential to success as are technical capabilities. This is the story of a leading internal audit department taking that next step to becoming a world-class audit organization in a fictional company. The foundation of that next step is developing their People-Centric Skills. The book demonstrates the impact that interpersonal and communication skills – whether good or bad – have on an auditor's effectiveness, job, and career. Readers will be able to empathize with the characters, and relate to the real-life situations in which they find themselves. Each chapter features a summary of key People-Centric points and guidelines that will help readers apply what they've learned to their own projects and departments. In a 2013 study sponsored by the Institute of Internal Auditors («IIA»), the seven key attribute areas identified to be a successful auditor include relationship building, partnering, communications, teamwork, diversity, continuous learning and integrity. Unfortunately, most professionals never obtain these skills as part of their college degrees, certifications and other ongoing training. They are left to their own devices when it comes to developing these talents. The book follows an easy-to-read fictional narrative to highlight areas for improvement, and uses common scenarios to illustrate how to apply the lessons. People-Centric Skills: Interpersonal and Communication Skills for Auditors and Business Professionals focuses on many of these critical attributes. Topics include: Conflict Management Coaching and Mentoring Building an Effective Team and Team Dynamics Team Leadership Partnering and Relationship Building Effective Meeting Practices Brainstorming and Multivoting Assessing Corporate Culture Active Listening Non-verbal Communications Consensus Building These skills apply not only to internal auditors but also transfer across a broad range of business professions and industries, and from professional to personal life. They open doors, establish effective relationships, improve effectiveness, and can turn a «no» into a «yes.» They are the true differentiator in advancing a career. For an auditor to be truly effective, great people skills are one of the most important tools in the box. People-Centric Skills: Interpersonal and Communication Skills for Auditors and Business Professionals is a straightforward guide to getting along, getting what you want in a constructive manner, and becoming a world-class professional.

SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE STARRING LUCAS HEDGES, RUSSELL CROWE AND NICOLE KIDMAN, AND WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY JOEL EDGERTON‘A necessary, beautiful book’ Garth Greenwell, author of What Belongs to You‘A brilliant memoir’ GuardianThe son of a Baptist pastor and deeply embedded in church life in small town Arkansas, as a young man Garrard Conley was terrified and conflicted about his sexuality. When Garrard was a nineteen-year-old college student, he was outed to his parents, and was forced to make a life-changing decision: either agree to attend a church-supported conversion therapy program that promised to “cure” him of homosexuality; or risk losing family, friends, and the God he had prayed to every day of his life. Through an institutionalised Twelve-Step Program heavy on Bible study, he was supposed to emerge heterosexual, ex-gay, cleansed of impure urges and stronger in his faith in God for his brush with sin. Instead, even when faced with a harrowing and brutal journey, Garrard found the strength and understanding to break out in search of his true self and forgiveness.By confronting his buried past and the burden of a life lived in shadow, Garrard traces the complex relationships among family, faith, and community. At times heartbreaking, at times triumphant, this memoir is a testament to love that survives despite all odds.

This study undertakes a critical assessment of the legal protection of foreign direct investments (FDI) in South Africa and Zimbabwe by determining their compliance with the international minimum standards, norms and/or best practices on the legal protection of FDI by host states. Firstly, the study argues that foreign investment is much needed in South Africa and Zimbabwe to improve economic growth and development, to create jobs, and to increase their competitiveness. However, these benefits are not accrued automatically but rather host states need to create an enabling environment to receive such benefits. Thus, host states need to put an investment scheme into operation to guarantee the legal protection of foreign investments. South Africa and Zimbabwe have at large crafted and implemented investment laws and related policies which tend to be hostile towards foreign investments. Therefore, similar investment laws and related policies in both jurisdictions are analysed. This study will also offer recommendations for a legal investment which is not only flexible, friendly, and favourable to foreign investment in South Africa and Zimbabwe but also advances their local economic policies.

We contend that discourses about mitigating the AIDS epidemic must take the cultural-epidemiological approach to compliment efforts that modern medical technology has done towards finding a cure to the epidemic.

Conflicts in Zimbabwe have caused communities to be divided along political party lines. Violence has been widespread and this has exacerbated economic collapse and social polarization. The acts of violence and loss of life and property and livelihoods must be addressed urgently. In high density urban areas this violence continues to divide communities. This research seeks to explore options for peace-building in high density urban areas of Zimbabwe. The Chitungwiza high density area outside Harare was used as a population of the study. The objectives of the research were to find out residents' concepts of peace, to explore the history of political violence in Chitungwiza and to seek options for peace-building in Zimbabwe's urban areas. The study drew on Laderach's reconciliation and peace-building framework, Chester Crockers's framework for institutional peace-building. This book weaves together a rich tapestry on football fandom in Zimbabwe. Based on empirical research focusing on the different dimensions of fan practices and experiences, the book is the result of multiple fieldwork processes with fans in Zimbabwe spanning a period of eight years including desk research, interviews, observation, focus group discussions and netnography. It demonstrates the nexus between social identities and supporting a sports team, highlighting that there are deeper underlying meanings and assumptions to one’s support of a sporting team. Manase Chiweshe highlights the various nuances of supporting football clubs. This book provides an alternative way to understanding communities and how sport can be viewed as a serious lens into societal organisations. It offers important insights into how Zimbabweans are also engaged in leisure activities and that play is also part of their life worlds. Given the major focus on poverty, disease and conflict, African stories of intimate play and enjoyment tend to be sidelined. Soccer has the power to bring together or divide communities. In many an African context, just as in Zimbabwe, everyday ethnic and religious rivalries are played out through football matches. It is thus important to capture this space and use football as a way to heal historic and deep-seated conflicts.

Participation which has become a famous orthodoxy in recent years among development agencies is the subject of this research on stakeholders in the water sector in Zimbabwe. Focus is on the participation of rural community members in smallholder formal and informal irrigation activities in their locale, and their representation in the sub-catchment and catchment levels respectively. A framework of analysis was constructed using evidence from the study to help us understand what shapes the participation of community members in irrigation WUAs in a selected small catchment of the larger Mzingwane catchment in southwest Zimbabwe. The study recommends the adoption of the micro-catchment level as the lowest tier for integrated water management, a union for smallholder irrigation WUAs and the provision of technology to leverage the participation of more community members in productive water use. Besides, to improve the framework analytical power, its review to include the role of politics and the wider notion of representational democracy is also recommended.
