For the study of impact of artificial recharge of roof top rainwater on the quantity and quality of groundwater, the geomatic approach was employed for identifying sites for construction of roof top rainwater harvesting structures by preparing various spatial maps. Monitoring and assessment of groundwater levels was carried out in the study area. Normal annual rainfall in the campus of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad is 821mm with unutilized non-committed surplus monsoon runoff. Artificial recharge of ground water through rooftop rainwater harvesting was done by constructing three recharge structures each with a capacity of 1,00,000 litres. A total rainfall of 658.1 mm has been found to be recorded and a total quantity of 23, 96,160 liters of groundwater has been found to be recharged during the four months period in the campus.

High population growth and increased exploitation of groundwater resources causes the degradation of groundwater quality. In today's world GIS has a wide applications in all fields of study. In this study GIS has been applied to evaluate the groundwater quality in the Peshawar district of Pakistan. The study is divided into two parts. In the first part 105 samples were collected in the field and were analyzed in laboratory for different important parameters such as pH, Ec, TDS, Alkalinity (HCO3), total hardness, Ca hardness, Mg hardness, NO3 (Nitrate) concentration, Cl-1 concentration and turbidity . These parameters were spatially modeled and analyzed using Spatial statistical techniques. In the second part a GIS based DRASTIC model was applied to assess the Groundwater vulnerable zones to pollution using six input parameters to the model such as depth to groundwater, net recharge, aquifer media, soil media, topography and hydraulic conductivity. After modeling the area was divided to low, medium and high vulnerable zones.

Academic Paper from the year 2017 in the subject Environmental Sciences, , course: PhD Environmental Science, language: English, abstract: Groundwater manganese concentration from the Chandrapur district of Central India was assessed during winter 2012. Groundwater sampling was carried out by grab sampling method in 36 sampling locations comprised of 34 hand pumps and two dug wells. Groundwater samples for manganese were preserved by adding conc. Groundwater manganese concentrations were estimated by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy. Groundwater iron concentration from the study area during winter 2012 was in the range of 0.0015-1.85 mg/L (SD±0.36). Groundwater manganese concentration in seven water samples were above the permissible desirable limit of Indian Standards for drinking water (IS 10500:2012, desirable limit for Mn, 0.3 mg/L max.). This elevated concentration of manganese in groundwater from the study area can be attributed to weathering of mineral bearing rocks, mining activities and also to some extent to anthropogenic activities. Spatial distribution of manganese was observed in the study area. Further, shallow, deep and very deep well water had variable manganese concentration. Upper earth surface had lower manganese concentration, however present, can be attributed to anthropogenic activities whereas deeper earth surface had higher manganese concentration that can be assigned to geogenic origin.

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Giving the powerful means of branding and brand-based differentiation for creating and sustaining a competitive advantage especially in highly competitive markets such as the automobile market, this study explores brand attitudes of existing and potential customers towards the brand BMW. Moreover, this study analyzes the level and source of customer satisfaction as well as the level and source of customer loyalty of existing and potential customers. While this study considers five different factors for the degree of customer satisfaction, there is only one factor considered for the degree of brand loyalty. The factors considered for customer satisfaction are perceived customer service, perceived quality, perceived innovation, perceived technology and perceived price, while the factor considered for brand loyalty is customer satisfaction itself. The analysis of brand loyalty distinguishes between repurchase loyalty and attitudinal loyalty, former being analyzed for existing customers and latter being analyzed for potential customers. The results indicate that (1) BMW has a high level of awareness, both in recognition and recall, (2) the image of BMW is favorable, strong and relevant, and (3) BMW is mainly associated with performance and style by existing customers and status by potential customers. Germany has currently no explicit form of tax incentive for R&D as they exist in many other countries. The objective of this study is to analyse and evaluate aspects that are important when an R&D tax incentive shall be established in Germany. The study is done both from a business and from an economic policy point of view. It broadens the focus to an European perspective, where the results can be of use in other countries. The study derives relevant research questions and outlines a framework for the evaluation of R&D tax incentives. It provides an overview on the different forms of R&D tax incentives in EU member states in 2010. A discussion then outlines potential models that could be used in Germany.A focus is on the analysis of the incentive's impact on the firm's total tax payments and on the R&D cost by means of a simulation model. Sensitivity analyses use different economic settings and model firms. Another focus is on the empirical analysis of effects from R&D tax incentives and corporate income tax burden on patenting behaviour by using firm-specific patent applications at the European Patent Office (EPO). A substantiated political discussion necessarily needs a projection of potential budgetary costs. Thus, the last focus is on the tax burden and on the overall fiscal costs and applies a micro-simulation model based on a financial statements database to quantify the effects induced by the various models of an R&D tax credit.

To this end, this study explored indicators of refugees' potential language learning effectiveness by carrying out semi-structured interviews with six experts who teach the German language to refugees. Analysis of the interviews followed the thematic analysis procedure described by Braun and Clarke (2006). The results highlighted three steps that could be used as a guideline for personnel selection. First, teachers and other persons who have a realistic impression of the respective learner's traits regarding intrinsic characteristics, surrounding conditions, and consequent motivation should recommend potential employees. In a second step, recruiters should take into consideration possible biases on part of the respective recommendation giver. In a last step, the role of autonomy as put forward by Ryan and Deci (2000; 2008) needs to be considered, as it can have major impact on the type of motivation of the respective learner and potential employee.

The VEPs represent electrical activity of large populations of neurons in the visual cortex and test the function of the visual pathway from the retina to the occipital cortex. Visual evoked potentials are massed electrical signals generated by occipital cortical areas in response to visual stimulation. Evoked potential techniques are noninvasive and have excellent temporal resolution, thus permitting the study of dynamic changes occurring in the nervous system. The evoked electrophysiological potential of VEP can be extracted using signal averaging from the electroencephalographic activity recorded at the scalp. VEPs can be used to assess the integrity or maturational state of the visual pathway in infants and preverbal children. The VEP responses have been worked out for adult population. However, in children the recording is difficult and their normatives are not consistent across the studies. The effect of age on children VEP is even less worked out. Therefore, this study is an attempt to document VEP responses among children population from 0.5 years to 7 years. This study is likely to produce a preliminary normative for the children and a pattern of effect of age on VEP.

Complaints expressed as negative electronic word of mouth (nWOM) have a great potential to damage companies accused in these publicly made complaints. This study investigates upon the most effective means for companies to counter nWOM by means of webcare. The results show that a loss of satisfaction and trust as well as negative eWOM behaviour after a service failure can be positively influenced depending on the content of a webcare response (accommodative vs. notice). These effects appear to be mediated by consumers' expectations. Furthermore, although webcare communication strategy (proactive vs. reactive) does not influence satisfaction, trust and negative eWOM behaviour of senders of nWOM, the results show an influence of webcare communication strategy on positive eWOM behaviour. The findings of this study are discussed in the light of the potential of webcare to serve as a tool for online complaint management.

The understanding of the fluid flow behavior in a reservoir is an essential parameter for maximum oil and gas production and a high recovery factor. This study should visualize the effect of geological structures on reservoir fluid flow. Based on real geological data from a field trip to the deep marine Ainsa Basin in Spain, a reservoir model was created. The collected data and mathematical equations were used to establish rock properties for the simulation runs. Based on the results of the runs, the difference in recovery factors and production rates between a reservoir pressure production and a production below the pore pressure with artificial methods such as water injection were displayed and discussed.

This book is an attempt to explore whether social media can be used as a forum for stakeholder dialogue. Based on the interviews of six CSR managers, it aims to shed light on recent technological developments and their influence on stakeholder discourses. From a theoretical perspective, the study builds on the principles of Jürgen Habermas' discourse ethics. Both stakeholder dialogue and discourse ethics have been criticised for their idealistic nature and lack of practical implications. In this work it is argued that social media holds great potential for organising, establishing and improving the Habermasian stakeholder dialogue. The author concludes that social media can indeed be used for stakeholder dialogue and that social media can benefit stakeholder discourses in many, although not in every, a way.

Finance researchers and asset management practitioners put a lot of effort into the question of optimal asset allocation. With this respect, a lot of research has been conducted on portfolio decision making as well as quantitative modeling and prediction models. This study brings together three fields of research, which are usually analyzed in an isolated manner in the literature:- Predictability of asset returns and their covariance matrix- Optimal portfolio decision making- Nonlinear modeling, performed by artificial neural networks, and their impact on predictions as well as optimal portfolio constructionIncluding predictability in asset allocation is the focus of this work and it pays special attention to issues related to nonlinearities. The contribution of this study to the portfolio choice literature is twofold. First, motivated by the evidence of linear predictability, the impact of nonlinear predictions on portfolio performances is analyzed. Predictions are empirically performed for an investor who invests in equities (represented by the DAX index), bonds (represented by the REXP index) and a risk-free rate. Second, a solution to the dynamic programming problem for intertemporal portfolio choice is presented. Farmers in the coastal area of Walcheren, the Netherlands are faced with issues of saltwater intrusion and summer drought. These coastal areas are naturally brackish-saline environments due to Holocene marine transgressions. Farming in these coastal areas relies on the existence of freshwater lenses that float on top of saline groundwater. These freshwater lenses are much smaller than what is typically found in the dunes and are the product of the balance between infiltrating rainwater and saline seepage. This research provides an investigation into the hydrology of the dune area between Oostkapelle and Vrouwenpolder and the freshwater lenses found on the farmlands using geophysical methods and density dependent groundwater flow and solute transport modeling with the numerical transport code MOCDENS3D. The model is further used to test the feasibility of shallow phreatic Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) scenarios. The findings of this research outline a low cost and effective way to store water for later use such as in dry summer months with ASR and has great potential to help coastal farming and irrigation practices in similar coastal settings around the world.

We investigate a dual formulation of quantum electrodynamics (QED) on the lattice with finite chemical potential. This formulation replaces the conventional degrees of freedom, which are defined on the sites and links of the lattice, by loops and plaquettes on the lattice. These new variables are the dual degrees of freedom. When using the conventional variables, the partition function is an integral over Boltzmann factors, which are complex if the chemical potential is different from zero. Thus, they cannot be employed as a probability weight in a Monte Carlo simulation. But if one uses appropriate dual variables, then the partition function turns into an infinite sum over real quantities, also in the case of a non-trivial chemical potential. We show that all summands are even strictly positive if we restrict ourselves to a certain class of loops. Now, each term of this partition sum can be interpreted as a probability weight for the corresponding dual configuration of loops and plaquettes. This allows us to run a Monte Carlo simulation and to explore various observables for the case of a finite chemical potential.

A finite-element model of a two-dimensional slice of human atrial tissue for the study of the electrograms and propagation of action potentials is presented. Action potential propagation is described by a reaction-diffusion model coupled with the complex Courtemanche et al. atrial cell model. The effects of recording electrode size and location on electrograms are presented. Action potential propagation as a result of atrial fibrillation ablation therapy is also modeled by defining a lesion area with decreased electrical conductivity. The effect of electrical conductivity and geometry of the lesion was also studied. It is shown that the success rate of atrial fibrillation ablation therapy is primarily correlated with the creation of continuous ablation lines and also the formation of fibrous tissue.

The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) disaster that occurred in Ukraine on April 26, 1986, was one of the most devastating in human history. Using this as a case study, the AGU monograph Groundwater Vulnerability: Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster is devoted to the problem of groundwater vulnerability, where the results of long-term field and modeling investigations of radionuclide transport in soil and groundwater, within the Ukrainian part of the Dnieper River basin (Kyiv region of Ukraine), are discussed. The authors provide a comprehensive review of existing literature on the assessment of groundwater vulnerability and then describe an improved methodology, which is developed based on integration of the methods of hydrogeological zonation and modeling of anomalously fast migration of radioactive contaminants from the land surface toward groundwater. This volume also includes the evaluation of the effect of preferential and episodic flow on transport of radionuclides toward the aquifers and risk assessment of groundwater vulnerability, which can further assist future researchers in developing remediation technologies for improving drinking water quality.
