Alexander Chernev Strategic Marketing Management - The Framework, 10th Edition

Strategic Marketing Management: The Framework delineates the fundamentals of marketing strategy, offers a systematic approach to marketing management, and presents a value-based framework for developing viable market offerings. The theory presented stems from the view of marketing as a value-creation process that is central to any business enterprise. In addition to theory, this book offers a set of practical tools that enable managers to apply the knowledge contained in the generalized frameworks to specific business problems and market opportunities. The information contained in this volume is organized into five major parts. The first part defines the essence of marketing as a business discipline and outlines an overarching framework for marketing management that serves as the organizing principle for the information presented in the rest of the book. We discuss the role of marketing management as a value-creation process, the essentials of marketing strategy and tactics as the key components of a company’s business model, and the process of developing an actionable marketing plan. Part Two covers issues pertaining to the development of a marketing strategy that will guide the company’s tactical activities. Here we focus on three fundamental aspects of a company’s marketing strategy: the identification of target customers, the development of a customer value proposition, and the development of a value proposition for the company and its collaborators. Part Three focuses on...

Deliver increased value by embedding quality into internal audit activities Internal Audit Quality: Developing a Quality Assurance and Improvement Program is a comprehensive and authoritative guide to better practice internal auditing. Written by a global expert in audit quality, this guide is the first to provide complete coverage of the elements that comprise an effective internal audit quality assurance and improvement program. Readers will find practical solutions for monitoring and measuring internal audit performance drawn from The IIA's International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, and complemented by advice and case studies from leading audit practitioners from five different continents. Major corporate and financial collapses over the past decade have challenged the value of internal audit. With an increased focus on internal audit's role in good governance, management is increasingly demanding that internal audit provides assurance of the quality of its own activities. The IIA standards provide a framework for audit quality in the form of mandatory guidance . Recent research indicates that the majority of internal audit functions do not fully comply with the standards and, as a result, are not servicing the needs of their organizations as well as they might. Internal Audit Quality offers a roadmap to internal audit quality, providing readers the guidance they need to: Embed quality into all elements of internal audit from strategic and operational planning down to day-to-day tasks Create well-defined internal audit programs and procedures Independently self-assess internal audit quality and performance Conform with the IIA standards and better practice Provide assurance over internal audit efficiency and effectiveness Deliver value by meeting stakeholder expectations As a key component of good governance, internal audit is on the rise. The days of retrospective, compliance-focused auditing is a thing of the past. Organizations expect more of internal audit, and many internal audit activities are accepting the challenge. Rather than relying on audit supervision and external assessments, modern auditors are embedding quality into audit activities to create effective programs. For the auditor looking to distinguish themselves as leading edge, Internal Audit Quality provides the guidance that enables the right work, at the right time, in the right way.

The regulatory framework for financial reporting, auditing and governance has changed radically in recent years, as a result of problems identified from the Enron scandal and more recently from the drive to implement global standards. In a key regulatory change, a company audit committee is now expected to play a significant role in agreeing the contents of the financial statements and overseeing the activities of the auditors. Finance Directors, Audit Committee Chairs and Audit Engagement Partners are required to discuss and negotiate financial reporting and auditing issues, a significant process leading to the agreement of the published numbers and disclosures, and to the issuing of the auditor's report which accompanies them, but which is entirely unobservable by third parties. Reaching Key Financial Reporting Decisions: How Directors and Auditors Interact is a fascinating, behind-the-scenes examination of this closed process. The authors draw on the results of face to face interviews, and an extensive survey of finance directors, audit committee chairs and audit partners, and present nine company case studies highlighting the process of discussion and negotiation and the methods by which the agreed financial reporting outcome was reached. Detailed analysis of the case studies: Allows those involved in the process to benchmark their behaviours against those of others Enables a comparison between the previous and current regulatory environments to see what has changed, and sheds light on the sorts of behaviours the current regulatory framework encourages Evaluates the effectiveness of the changed regulatory regime, providing evidence relevant to current policy debates concerning the value of audit, IFRS and the relative merit of rules-based versus principles-based accounting standards in relation to professional judgement and compliance The unprecedented access and unique insights offered by this book make it invaluable for audit firm staff and partners, audit committee chairs and company directors involved in agreeing the published financial statements, as well as those who have an interest in the financial statements, but do not have access to the negotiation process.

Kindermann Sonja Innovative Approaches to Determine Corporate Value Creation

This book exemplifies innovative approaches of corporate value creation on the basis of Michael Porter's Shared Value concept and Jed Emerson's Blended Value theory. First, the Shareholder Value strategy is described as the mainstream approach of today's business in order to compare solely profit oriented business strategies with innovative value creation approaches. The second part of the book explores Porter's three distinct ways of Shared Value creation, re-conceiving products and markets, redefining productivity in the value chain and enabling cluster development. His theory is examined whether it is applicable in real world application. This is done by analyzing Nestlé's operational strategy in the marketing of nutritious products in Latin America from the perspective of the three methods of Shared Value creation. In the third part of the book Emerson's Blended Value approach is brought in. His 'Blended Value Proposition' pursues a similar idea as Porter, except it focuses on the impact of financial markets on sustainable growth, rather than actual business activities themselves. Emerson's argumentation about the impact of microfinance and investments in social enterprises on sustainable profit generation is illustrated in more detail by using the example of Calvert Foundation as a sustainable investment fund. The book closes with a critical appraisal of both approaches.

"How can you argue with the core principles of Lean, that you focus on what provides value to your customer and eliminate work that is not necessary (muda)? Internal auditors need to understand not only who their primary customers are, but what is valuable to them – which in most cases is assurance that the risks that matter to the achievement of objectives are properly managed. We need to communicate what they need to know and not what we want to say. This incessant focus on the customer and the efficient production of a valued product should extend to every internal audit team. How else can we ensure that we optimize the use of our limited resources to address the dynamic business and risk environment within which our organizations operate?" Norman Marks, GRC Thought Leader Using lean techniques to enhance value add and reduce waste in internal auditing Lean Auditing is a practical guide to maximising value and efficiency in internal audit through the application of lean techniques. It is an ideal book for anyone interested in understanding what progressive, value adding audit can be like. It is also ideal for anyone wondering whether audit activities can be streamlined or better co-ordinated with other activities. The book contains practical advise from the author's experience as CAE of AstraZeneca PLC; from his work as a consultant specializing in this field; as well as insights from leading CAEs in the UK, US and elsewhere. In addition, there are important insights from thought leaders such as Richard Chambers (IIA US) and Norman Marks (GRC thought leader) and Chris Baker (Technical Manager of the IIA UK). Increasing pressure on resources is driving a need for greater efficiency in all areas of business, and Internal Audit is no exception. Lean techniques can help streamline the workflow, but having only recently been applied to IA, lack the guidance available for other techniques. Lean Auditing fills this need by combining expert instruction and actionable advice that helps Internal Auditors: Benchmark their efficiency against lean ways of working Understand warning signs of waste and lower added value Understanding practical ways of working that improve added value and reduce waste Gain confidence about progressive ways of working in internal audit Understand how improved ways of working in audit can positively impact the culture of the wider organization One of the keys to the lean audit is finding out exactly what the stakeholder wants, and eliminating everything else. Scaling back certain operations can delineate audit from advisory, and in the process, dramatically improve crucial outcomes. To this end, Lean Auditing is the key to IA efficiency.

Steven Firer The Limitation of an Auditior.s Liability in South Africa

Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Law - Comparative Legal Systems, Comparative Law, , course: LLM, language: English, abstract: This dissertation recommends that the laws governing the liability of the auditor in South Africa be amended to ensure a sustainable audit function and accordingly a competitive market for audit firms. These amendments must take the form of (a) introducing a monetary cap or ceiling on the quantum of damages that may be claimed by a plaintiff in the event that an auditor is found guilty of a breach of his or her legal duties and obligations in contract and in delict, (b) the provision for auditors to enter into contracts with their clients to limit the quantum of damages that may be suffered by the client as a result of the auditor's breach of the contract with his or her client, and (c) introducing legislation which, will protect audit partners from personal liability if they did not participate directly in another partner's misdeed or fraud. It is submitted that this dissertation should be viewed as a Revised Project 70 where the South African Law Commission in 1988 investigated the desirability of the limitation of professional persons and the possible regulation thereof by legislation [the conclusion was that there was no justification to limit the liability of any category of professionals by legislation]; which is updated with and including the fundamental and paradigm shifting changes that have taken place in the glo...

This book offers companies in the food industry the first comprehensive guide to preparing for the Global Standard Audit. Beverage and Food World, May 2009 BASED ON ISSUE 5 OF THE BRC STANDARD The British Retail Consortium Global Standard for Food Safety was originally conceived to meet an increasing demand for a unified standard to be used by the major retailers in the UK for their suppliers of «own label» food products. The system has proved so successful that it is now used throughout the food industry, and over 7000 food manufacturers worldwide already have the Standard. Companies are often unsure about how to approach attaining certification—often a demanding process, especially at the first attempt. Not only are there over 300 clauses to satisfy, there are also general concerns such as how to correct non-conformities within very specific deadlines. Even when their operations are actually quite satisfactory, many suppliers find themselves poorly prepared for the audit and do not perform as well as they might. Masterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich BWL - Unternehmensführung, Management, Organisation, Note: 1,7, Dresden International University (Kompetenzzentrum Logistik und Unternehmensführung), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: While a global crisis and countless recalls have negatively affected the automotive industry in recent months, business has improved more than expected. Despite the fast growing business, the pricing pressure has increased simultaneously. Experts advise suppliers to reduce costs as much as possible. Due to these facts, quality improvements and cost reductions are the major goals of the future. Value management and value analysis have very similar key intentions: function improvements and cost minimization. To assure the development of products, which fulfill the customer's needs and can be sold at the price the customer is willing to pay, value management needs to become an essential part of the development process. A key aspect of this is that eighty to ninety percent of a product's value is influenced during its design and development. This thesis gives an introduction to the basics and the importance of organizational impact of value management, including its efforts and benefits. After the characterization of the methods and tools a description of the capability and the distinction to target costing is shown. The following derivation starts with the standard development process and the design process according to VDI 2221, followed by the integr...

"This book offers companies in the food industry the first comprehensive guide to preparing for the Global Standard Audit." Beverage and Food World, May 2009 BASED ON ISSUE 5 OF THE BRC STANDARD The British Retail Consortium Global Standard for Food Safety was originally conceived to meet an increasing demand for a unified standard to be used by the major retailers in the UK for their suppliers of «own label» food products. This book offers companies in the food industry the first comprehensive guide to preparing for the Global Standard audit. Using over 600 real life examples, it enables manufacturers to ensure that the correct systems are in place to achieve the Standard and present themselves in the best way during the audit process. It also recommends the steps to take following the audit and how to correct non-conformities. The book is an essential resource for suppliers wishing to attain certification for the first time and those already in the scheme seeking to improve their grades. Farida Chotkan The Impact of S.O.A. on It Auditing

IT auditing is a profession that has gained its position in the audit world over the years. From supporting a financial audit it has now its own purpose and goal. The development of new technologies and architectures is very fast, but still it can be said the IT auditing profession has grown the last years. Audit standards, compliance regulations and developments in education for the IT auditor have changed over the years. But is this enough to audit new technologies and can IT auditing cope with the fast development of new technologies? Service-oriented architecture emerged as new technology in literature since 1996. In the Netherlands this technology has been a hype between 2006 and 2007. IT auditors have stated in interviews that they are aware of the impact that SOA has on this profession. They are also aware that SOA will need another audit approach, because the environment is different than the traditional IT environments on which the audit programs are based on. SOA challenges the IT auditor in many ways. The demand for more control and monitoring will increase because of the rise of new technologies and changes in economical and political aspects.

Ernest Cole, Cole Ernest Post-Apartheid Interregnum

In this study, I share Nadine Gordimer's conception of an interregnum as a period of indeterminacy characterized by ambiguities, paradoxes, and contradictions. Consequently, I argue that despite the political transformation in 1994, post-apartheid South African literature reveals that the old binaries and strictures of apartheid have been carried over into the present. Thus, the new landscape in South Africa depicts ambiguities and contradictions that are indicative of a process of interregnum. Accordingly, I argue that post-apartheid South Africa presents a picture of resistance to change and asserts that the process of political transition to black rule would require a redefinition of roles and relationships, self-sacrifice, and re-examination of values. I focus on racial tension, prejudice and exploitation; I examined violence, corruption, political ineptitude, suffering and death as illustrative of disillusionment in the new South Africa. Overall, I show that post-apartheid South Africa is characterized by reversal of expectations, where the old is preventing the birth of the new and that this constitutes a process of interregnum.

P.C. Jagersma The information value of dividend

The subject of dividend policy has passionate economists for many decennia, resulting in intensive theoretical modelling and empirical examinations. In this study the main values of dividends are discussed. The value of signalling is seen as the most convincing. An overview of the main theoretical models and empirical studies on the information value of dividend is presented. The purpose of the research is to test if the argument of information value finds empirical evidence among Dutch listed companies. It is showed that the amount of dividends contain signals about the future earnings of a firm. Especially when changes in dividend are unexpected this information signal is strong. Though, the analysis gives not much predictive power for the future. The results differ from the findings of Dorsman (1988) who concluded that there is no significant value of information in dividends of the Dutch stock market.

Green Hills of Africa is Ernest Hemingway's lyrical journal of a month on safari in the great game country of East Africa, where he and his wife Pauline journeyed in December 1933. Hemingway's well-known interest in - and fascination with - big-game hunting is magnificently captured in this evocative account of his trip. It is an examination of the lure of the hunt and an impassioned portrait of the glory of the African landscape and of the beauty of a wilderness that was, even then, being threatened by the incursions of man.

Albert Mubako Digital Transformation. The Realignment of Information Technology and Business Strategies for Retailers in South Africa

Remaining competitive in the retail industry of South Africa in the digital age is a major business concern. In the age of „digital natives", people are well-connected on various digital technology platforms and are digital consumers. Digital technologies offer retail organizations new innovative ways to create value by utilizing digital business strategies, processes, and products. This qualitative research study explores the perception of retail strategy experts and decision-makers toward realignment of IT and business strategies considering digital transformation in South Africa. Based on interviews with seven managers and decision-makers in the retail industry, the study reveals that digital technologies have disrupted traditional ways of doing business. The study proposes eight major recommendations, in which retail traders could innovate their business strategy to enhance value creation beyond traditional approaches to retailing. It provides a good starting point for academic research in a domain that is deficient in theoretical and empirical research on the South Africa retail sector, and offers retailing managers a conceptual model to guide them toward a digital business strategy for transient competitive advantages.

Saif Islam Moving Up the Value Chain. How to make the Smiling Curve smile.

Master's Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, grade: Pass with highest distinction, , course: International Business - International Business and Value Creation, language: English, abstract: The concept of Smiling Curve coined by Stan Shih, founder of Acer, shows the appropriable value added in different phases of an industry. Typically the part of a value chain that generates higher value proposition are controlled by firms from developed economies; while firms from developing world are 'stuck' at the manufacturing section with low value added. However, the unprecedented growth of ICT hardware market over the years has opened up possibilities for those latecomers to catch up. Although a handful firms have succeeded, little is known about how they managed to move up along the value chain. Trying to solve this mystery, a conceptual model is proposed based on case studies of ICT firms from an emerging economy, Taiwan. Knowing the difficulties for firms to survive head-to-head competitions that come along with the moving up activities, the model suggests that firms should look for new market opportunities by the means of functional upgrading and innovation, and eventually evolve into creating a new value chain with high end topped by themselves.

A value management framework designed specifically for banking and insurance The Value Management Handbook is a comprehensive, practical reference written specifically for bank and insurance valuation and value management. Spelling out how the finance and risk functions add value in their respective spheres, this book presents a framework for measuring – and more importantly, influencing – the value of the firm from the position of the CFO and CRO. Case studies illustrating value-enhancing initiatives are designed to help Heads of Strategy offer CEOs concrete ideas toward creating more value, and discussion of «hard» and «soft» skills put CFOs and CROs in a position to better influence strategy and operations. The challenge of financial services valuation is addressed in terms of the roles of risk and capital, and business-specific «value trees» demonstrate the source of successful value enhancement initiatives. While most value management resources fail to adequately address the unique role of risk and capital in banks, insurance, and asset management, this book fills the gap by providing concrete, business-specific information that connects management actions and value creation, helping readers to: Measure value accurately for more productive value-based management initiatives and evaluation of growth opportunities Apply a quantitative, risk-adjusted value management framework reconciled with the way financial services shares are valued by the market Develop a value set specific to the industry to inspire initiatives that increase the firm's value Study the quantitative and qualitative management frameworks that move CFOs and CROs from measurement to management The roles of CFO and CRO in financial firms have changed dramatically over the past decade, requiring business savvy and the ability to challenge the CEO. The Value Management Handbook provides the expert guidance that leads CFOs and CROs toward better information, better insight, and better decisions.

Studying Captive Animals outlines the methods that may be used to study the behaviour, welfare and ecology of animals living under the control of humans, including companion animals, feral populations, and those living on farms and in zoos. This book is a step-by-step guide to the whole process of conducting a scientific study: from designing the original project, formulating testable hypotheses, and collecting and analysing the data, to drawing conclusions from the work and writing it up as a scientific report or paper. It also illustrates how to write a formal research proposal – a crucial and often difficult element of the student project – and how to deal with the ethical review process. Sample data collection sheets are provided and the analysis and presentation of data are worked through in diagrammatic form. In addition, exercises are included that enable the reader to practice analysing different types of data and advice is provided on the selection of appropriate statistical tests. The text describes the different types of student projects that may be undertaken in the field, and explains where secondary data may be found for zoos. This is an insightful resource, particularly for those studying and working with zoo and farm animals. It is essential reading for students studying zoo biology and animal management; it is also suitable for students on courses in animal behaviour, animal welfare, zoology, biology, psychology, animal science, animal production, animal ecology, conservation biology, and veterinary science. Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2016 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: 5.0 (summa cum laude), Kozminski University, language: English, abstract: Interest in corporate brands and corporate brand management has risen significantly in recent years. Corporate brand management has moved to the key strategic agenda not only for owners/shareholders and top management but also for other stakeholders. The major factor behind that is the modern shareholder value movement. As a result, the main task of management is to maximize shareholder value and consequently, the majority of big companies have shifted to the adoption of shareholder value as the criterion for evaluating strategies and manager's performance (Doyle, 2008, p. 22). Therefore, the main objective of the dissertation is the conceptual and empirical analysis of the corporate brand management process. The study focuses on three industries: Higher Education Institutions (HEI), Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), and Automotive (AUTO). The reason behind the research of such a diverse group of industries is the intent not to show how a corporate brand works in a certain industry but rather to analyze the common factor: the corporate brand in the process of brand management. In order to fulfill the above stated objective, the thesis will answer the following three research questions: 1) What is the role of the corporate brand in brand ...

Competition from emerging and developing countries, challenges related to energy and water, the continuing increase in the global population and the obligation to be sustainable are all impacting developed countries such as the United States, France, etc. Manufacturing has been almost totally neglected by these developed countries and thus there is a strong need to review R&D and the development and industrialization processes. This is a prerequisite for maintaining and improving welfare and quality of life. The industrialization process can be defined as the process of converting research or laboratory experiments into a physical tool capable of producing a product of value for customers of specified markets. Such a process implies knowledge of BAT (best available techniques) in chemical engineering, plant design, production competitiveness, the proper utilization of tools (toolbox concept) such as value assessment, value engineering, eco-design, LCA (lifecycle analysis), process simulation, modeling, innovation and appropriate metrics usage. These are mandatory to ensure commercial success and covered by the authors of this book.

Malaria and Poverty in Africa

Malaria is a serious health and economic problem in Africa, afflicting more than half of the continent's population. Although HICV/AIDS, TB and nutritional deficiencies pose major development problems on the continent, the challenges presented by malaria are of a different kind, because the disease is widespread, persistent and grossly underestimated by the general population. The importance of malaria, along with HIV/AIDS and other diseases in the development agenda, is now recognised in Goal 6 of the Millennium Goals. This book provides the evidence required to design and implement malaria control strategies in Africa. The chapters analyse the nexus between poverty and malaria with a focus on policies that can be implemented at various levels of society to fight the disease. Malaria and Poverty in Africa is the outcome of a research sponsored by the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC). Augustin Kwasi Fosu is the Director, Economic Division of the United Nations Commision for Africa, Addis Ababa, and former Director of Research at the AERC, Nairobi. Outcomes were supposed to be an increase in predictive potential concerning young companies and their value as investments. A potential integration of more accurate methods would lead to a significant rise in profits for investment companies. Moreover, the resulting increase in trust in risky projects through better understanding of their value would also increase the number of new innovations. Hence, more funding would be available due to decreasing investment risk.Methodology: Following the Platonist philosophy proposed by Lomas (2011), the study incorporated three steps. First, an intensive investigation revealed factors which have an impact on the value of companies, and evaluated traditional approaches. The second step was to predict the potential of the new methods based on the member base of the organisation. Finally, the last step was deployed in a mixed case study approach following the recommendations of Yin (2009), where these predictions were challenged. In particular, LinkedIn, Xing and Viadeo were chosen to challenge the proposed method based on...

Diana Eunice Kawenda Legal reception and regional economic integration in Southern Africa

The dire African economic situation has been a perennial problem for the past six decades. Many problems emanate from slow economic growth, such as poverty and unemployment. There is a need for a collective effort to ensure economic growth, which would be the most viable solution to these problems, and the key to such a collective effort is regional economic integration (REI).This study examines REI within the legal context. It tests the proposition that the law can be used as a means to achieving REI. At the heart of this proposition lies the legal challenge that comes with the different approaches to legal reception and how they impede the realisation of REI. An analysis is performed of the theories related to legal reception, which include the monist, the dualist and the hybrid theories. REI was embraced in Europe and has yielded fruitful results. There is no doubt that the collective efforts to realise economic growth in other continents stem from the inspiration of the European example. Europe is used in this study to illustrate how the obstacles that accompany the different approaches to legal reception may be superseded. The study examines how the law was used in Europe as a means to attain REI. An attempt is then made to understand REI from an African perspective by setting out the legal framework and its shortcomings. Attention is paid to Africa's sub-region of Southern Africa, and the study examines legal reception within Southern Africa and how the different ap...

However, measuring the performance of a company's shareholder value can be very challenging. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to deal with a well-known approach that enables businesses to detect its shareholder value performance: Economic Value Added (EVA). The thesis discusses the correlation between EVA and shareholder value, it further outlines its main drivers. In the second part, the paper elaborates on the specific links of the EVA approach to a regional Sales department and identifies the department's main leverages on EVA. In order to detect the influence of the main operative decisions on EVA, the thesis introduces the key figure Effect-on-EVA. The applicability of Effect-on-EVA is shown in a model calculation. Above all, this project thesis shall create a profound practical value by sharpening the awareness of how to influence EVA in a positive way. The last quarter of a century has seen an unprecedented wave of democratization around the globe. In these transitions from authoritarian rule to a more democratic order, the media have played a key role both by facilitating, but frequently also inhibiting, democratic practices to take root. This book provides an accessible and systematic introduction to the media in transitional democracies. It analyses the problems that occur when transforming the media into independent institutions that are able to inform citizens and hold governments to account. The book covers the following topics: normative conceptions of media and democracy; the role of the past in the transition process; the internet as a new space for democratic change; the persistence of political interference in emerging democracies; the interlocking power of media markets and political ownership; the challenges to journalistic professionalism in post-authoritarian contexts; the role of the media in divided societies; The book takes a global view by exploring the interplay of political and media transitions in different pathways of democratization that have taken place in Eastern Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia. It will be of interest to advanced students and scholars who want a better understanding of the media outside established Western democracies. The book will also be of great value to policymakers and activists who are involved in strengthening the media in transitional democracies.
