A Density functional theory and semi empirical calculation have been carried out on a first row transition metal complexes, Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II) to predict molecular properties of the metal complexes chelated to the intermediate Schiff base, IDIPA, derived from ninhydrin and α, L-alanine in their octahedral structure. Geometry and infrared spectra of the metal complexes, Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) were calculated with B3LYP method using 6-31G, 3-21G(d), 6-31G(d), 3-21G(d), and 3-21G(d) basis set, respectively, and compared with their experimental data. The electronic spectra of the ligand and metal complexes were also performed with ZINDO method. The geometry of the metal complexes were predicted and the ligand were characterized as tridentate and monobasic potential ligand for the metals in their octahedral structure. The electronic spectral calculation of the metal complexes were clearly indicative of a coordination of six in which the number of ligands, IDIPA, coordinated to the metal vary for the first two metal complexes, Mn(II), Fe(III)

Scientific community has shown decent research interest in the field of organometallic complexes based on platinum group metals owing to their plausible use in synthetic and industrial chemistry. In this regard, transition metal complexes containing η6-arene, η5-Cp and Cp* have drawn special attention. In particular, arene complexes have emerged as versatile intermediate in organic synthesis as a consequence of the ease with which the arene ligand can be functionalized. The presence of a transition metal center and ancillary ligands on one face of the coordinated arene can serve as a valuable stereochemical element. The utility of η6-arene and η5-Cp and Cp* metal complexes emanates not only from the reactivity inherent to the coordinated ring but, also from the control over three facially disposed coordinated sites about a given metal center afforded by incorporation of an arene ligand. In search of new systems based on arene ruthenium chemistry which can behave as potential metallo-ligands, new η6-arene ruthenium and analogous η5-Cp complexes based on chelating N,N and N,O donor ligands and non-chelating nitrogen donor organic ligands has been synthesized and fully characterized.

The wide utilization of herbicides in the crop management has created a challenging problem in terms of residual herbicides. The major problems experienced are the contamination of soil, surface water, and possibly ground water with their residues. Therefore, systematic studies are needed to evaluate the toxicity of several substituted triazines and triazoles as well as their metal complexes in order to understand the role of substituents and metal complexation in modifying the activities of herbicidal compounds containing N-heterocyclic systems. This book describes the basic chemistry of derivatization and metal complexation of selected herbicide systems that can be used as a means for modifying their activities. Accordingly, Atrazine (ATZ), Simazine (SMZ), and Amitrole (ATA) were derivatized into HAATZ, HSMZ, and NSATA respectively. Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of NASTA were synthesized. All the synthesized compounds were characterized on the basis of analytical, magnetic susceptibility, conductance, IR, NMR, UV-VIS spectral studies. An octahedral geometry for Co(II)-NSATA complex and square planar geometry for Ni(II)-NSATA and Cu(II)-NSTA complexes are proposed.

Summarizes the preparation and structure characterization of various thiosemicarbazones attached Quinoline aldehyde as well as their metal complexes. Synthesized ligands and metal complexes were characterized by different technique like mass, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, UV-Visible spectroscopy as well as elemental analysis. In the elemental analysis of the synthesized compound both calculated and found percentages of elements are matched so elemental analysis confirms the structure of the thiosemicarbazone. Mass spectral data confirm the structure of the ligand as indicated by the molecular ion peak (M+) corresponding to their molecular weight. In IR spectra of the synthesized thiosemicarbazone showed useful information about the structure of the compound. In the IR spectra, some significant stretching bands due to -N-H, -N-N-, -NH2 and -C=S were observed at specific frequencies. In the 1H NMR spectra, the signal due to -CH=N-, -N-NH, NH2 and aromatic protons were observed in the expected regions. The 13C NMR spectrum provides direct information about the carbon skeleton of the synthesized compound.

This book provides an overview in recent progress in the field of solvatochromism in new mixed-ligand copper(II) complexes containing the bidentate di-nitrogen ligands and bidentate di-oxygen ligands. Copper(II) complexes were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared, mass and ESR spectral data, magnetic and molar conductance measurements and thermal gravimetric analysis. From the investigation, the geometries of the complexes are square planar for perchlorate complexes, square pyramid or octahedral for the nitrate complexes and octahedral for the bromide complexes. Thermal and kinetic parameters for the nitrate complexes are investigated. The kinetic parameters (E, A, ΔG, ΔH, ΔS) of all thermal decomposition stages were calculated using the Coats-Redfern and other standard equations. Solvatochromic behavior of some copper(II) complexes indicates strong solvatochromism of their solutions in polar and non-polar solvents. The observed solvatochromism is due to the solute-solvent interaction between the chelate cation and the solvent molecules.

The work presented concerns the preparation, characterization and biological evaluation of Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes of Schiff bases derived from amoxycillin, cephalexin, sulphamethoxazole and trimethoprim, and salicylalde-hyde and pyridoxal. In these complexes an amino group available in the drug substances was allowed to react with salicylaldehyde and pyridoxal hydrochloride, separately, to obtain Schiff bases which were, subsequently, reacted with Cu(CH3COO)2. H2O and/or Zn(CH3COO)2.2H2O to form Schiff base metal complexes. The ligands and the complexes were characterized by microanalytical, thermogravimetric, magnetic and spectroscopic data. The geometry of the Zn(II) complexes appears to be simple square-pyramidal or octahedral. All the compounds under investigation possess antibacterial activity. The antibacterial activity showed the following trend: Cu(II)-complexes > Zn(II)-complexes > Schiff base ligands > parent xxvi drugs. The Cu(II)-complexes with the Schiff bases derived from cephalexin showed substantially enhanced activity against P. aeruginosa as compared with the parent drug.

The field of olefin polymerization has been remarkably renewed with the use of metallocene and post metallocene catalyst. Novel transition-metal complexes were studied as catalysts in ethylene polymerization. The aim of this work is to investigate the feasibility of replacing the cyclopentadienyl ligands of metallocenes by bis(aminotropone) ligands as well as by new bis(imino)pyridinato ligands without losing the good properties of the metallocenes, such as high activity and formation of linear polymer. Introduction: Transition metal oxides represent a large class of compounds with a uniquely wide range of electronic properties. A new Schiff Base ligand [(SBDTC)2AP] has been synthesized by the 1:2 condensation of Acetophenone and S-benzyldithiocarbazate. A group of selected ions such as Cu(II), Cd(II), Zn(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) complexes of [(SBDTC)2AP] have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic studies and various physico-chemical techniques included melting point determination, IR spectra and Uv-Vis spectra. Melting point of Schiff base is basically lower than metal complexes because of intra-molecular interaction. The FTIR spectrum for Schiff base ligand shows stretching vibration of the important functional group ;v(N-H) in range ~3179 cm-1,v(C=S) in range ~1103cm-1,v(N-N-C) in range ~1344cm-1,v(C=N) in range ~ 1599 cm-1 and lastly v(C-S-S) in range of 1027 cm-1.As for the metal complexes of Schiff base, they posses in thiol form in solid state because of the v(N-H) and v(C=S) stretching disappearance near 3179 cm-1 and 1103 cm-1 respectively. The coordination of the azomethine nitrogen and sulfur donors atom to the metal is indicate by the shift on the v(C=N) band at 1599 cm-1 and in the v(C-S-S) band at 921 cm-1 .
