Gerald T. Fox U.S. Politics and the American Macroeconomy

This book considers the interrelation among macroeconomic politics, macroeconomic policymakers, macroeconomic policies, and macroeconomic perform ance. This interaction is examined using the expectational Phillips curve model, which measures macroeconomic outcomes in terms of inflation and unemployment. The subject of macroeconomic politics mainly focuses on voter behavior, presidential reelection ambition, and political party priorities. These political factors influence the macroeconomic policy actions of the president, Congress, and the central bank; the analysis takes into account both fiscal and monetary policies. The author's examination of citizen sentiment is based on rational voter theory and the median voter model. He compares the effects of macroeconomic farsightedness versus shortsightedness in voters and contrasts the conservative versus liberal perspectives on macroeconomic policy and performance. The empirical component of the analysis examines the electoral and partisan political business cycle effects upon the U.S. economy, and evidence of idiosyncratic effects during the time frame of 1961-2014 is found. Finally, the author discusses macroeconomic influence on various measures of voter sentiment, such as presidential job approval, and presidential and congressional election outcomes.

Pascal König Using underlying priorities for rational choice explanations

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Politics - Political Systems - General and Comparisons, grade: 1,0, University of Mannheim, language: English, abstract: This enquiry deals with the shortcomings of rational choice theory in explaining voter turnout as a rational - i.e. efficient in terms of costs and benefits - act. It is argued that intrinsic benefits, i.e. benefits that accrue to the citizen independent of an election outcome, should provide a proper explanatory potential if one can account for different implications of these benefits for different voters. The rationale should hold for benefits in general, though. Underlying coherent priorities in the form of political values (materialism vs. postmaterialism) are used to differentiate voters and to probe for differing impacts of determinants of voter turnout depending on different underlying values. The thesis is that the impacts of these determinants differ for different values. The tested determinants, taken from the literature, are appreciation of democracy, social norms, party identification and material resources. Hypotheses about impacts are formulated on the basis of the theory of political values for every determinant and tested by means of logistic regression employing data from German election studies. Whereas the impacts of social norms and material resources vary by underlying values, the results for appreciation of democracy and party identification remain inclusive.

Peter Baumann Projecting the Future

In 2008, Barack Obama was elected President of the United States in part on the backs of a substantial number of young Americans who cast their votes for the relatively inexperienced Senator. Beyond just the election of 2008, however, the impact of these youth voters on future presidential elections still reverberates. This work studies whether the youth vote in a given election serves as an indication of how that group of voters will split in future election cycles. It examines theories of political socialization, and retrospective voting, to see whether a group of voters tends to split either Democratic or Republican in a consistent matter. The answer is interesting for both political scientists and politicians, and has the potential to impact electoral strategy for years to come.

Seminar paper from the year 2011 in the subject English - Applied Geography, grade: 1,0, Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, language: English, abstract: The video sharing website YouTube has become a phenomenon that is part of an increasing number of people's lives and also a part of the usual presidential rhetoric. Before the launch of YouTube in 2005, the enormous effects of this online phenomenon on all aspects of society could hardly be foreseen. In 2011, however, it is obvious that YouTube and other online media affect every day life, including political decision making, in many ways. The 2004 US presidential election is often referred to as the first internet election as the candidates (Howard Dean in particular) started to use blogs and websites to raise money and convince voters online (Zielmann, Röttger 2009: 77). By 2008, the internet had become even more diverse and complex and offered a lot of new online functions like social networking sites (Facebook) and video sharing sites (YouTube). These new opportunities were used by most of the candidates in the 2008 presidential election. The later US President Barack Obama as well as his internal opponent Hillary Clinton made use of the internet to spread their political messages and address especially the younger voters. A study that was conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project during the 2008 election campaign proved that 40% of all adults accessed information about politics on the interne...

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2014 im Fachbereich Politik - Politische Systeme - Allgemeines und Vergleiche, Note: 1,0, Universität Mannheim (Fakultät für Sozialwissenschaften), Veranstaltung: Seminar: Comparing Media Systems and Media Policies across Europe, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: This paper concentrates on the effects of media systems on voter turnout. It is based on the work of Hallin and Mancini "Comparing Media Systems: Three Models of Media and politics" published in 2004 (Hallin/Mancini 2004). Thus the research question this paper seeks to answer is "Is there a significant difference between the type of media system proposed by Hallin and Mancini and the degree of voting participation?" All three models differ in their size of media markets, their degree of political parallelism as well as the different kinds of professionalization of the journalists and the role of the state in the media systems. Subsequently there is a possibility of this affects the number of people attending elections. It is expected to find significant differences between the models in their degree of voting participation. In the following chapters this paper introduces the categorization of Hallin and Mancini and discusses its findings and also presents the reception of their work. Next the theory and the hypothesis are introduced. Then the methodology is displayed. Bivariate regression analysis will be used in order to analyse the differences regarding the media systems and the...

Presidential elections in the United States are, and always have been, major events in American and world history. They are watched by millions of people not only in the US but all over the world. A circumstance that is often not noticed by less informed viewers is that the most famous part of the elections, namely the presidential inauguration, is preceded by weeks, months and even years of presidential campaigning, where candidates raise and spend vast amounts of money in order to convince the American citizens to give them their vote. These campaigns have commonly consisted of journeys throughout the entire country, rallies, conventions and speeches but lately, another medium has been taking a great role in the competition: Social Media. Especially during the 2016 election cycle Twitter became a campaign tool that never has been used during political campaigns to this extent before. Donald Trump in particular has made use of Twitter to such a great extent that it sometimes even seemed like his official speaking tube. The introductory chapters of this work are dedicated to Obama's social media pio-neer work during his 2008 election cycle. Then the Twitter phenomenon Trump will be analyzed based on an analysis of recurring patterns in a selection of his tweets. His controversial behavior online as well as offline will be set out as well. Mule Ndonye Michael Media and 2013 Political Process in Kenya

Today, media remains the most influential institution in the world. Given its power, it has become an inevitable tool for advertising, advocacy, and passing information in developed and developing countries. We know media, new and traditional, in political processes because of the hype that comes with politics. In Kenya, media has had its ups and downs since independence. The infamous 2007/2008 post election violence will take time to be forgotten and the narration of the ordeals of the violence can not pass without mentioning media's role. This book examines the use of media by Kenyan politicians, especially the social media and particularly twitter; the significant case study that Kenyan media launched by holding the first presidential debate prior to March 4th elections: an event that proved to shape voter decision; and the failures of Kenyan media as a watchdog in the coverage of the 2013 elections in Kenya. This book will be fit for those who want to explore the role of media in political communication. The future lies in the hands of media. True or false?

Globalization and Beyond. New Examinations of Global Power and Its Alternatives

The enormous turnout in Washington, D.C., for Barack Obama's presidential inauguration and the worldwide rejoicing at this signal of change offered a tangible demonstration of people's desire for a new world order. In the waning months of the Bush administration, crushing global recession dealt a critical blow to the neoliberal project. The hegemony of the United States and of the international institutions it has used to maintain its economic dominance has been in decline for some years now, suggesting the need to explore alternative ways to carry out globalization's imperatives. In Globalization and Beyond, leading scholars take up the challenge of examining the current state of economic crisis and the variety of ways in which different countries (as well as different groups) are responding to it.

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2009 in the subject Organisation and Administration, grade: 1,5, , language: English, abstract: 1. IntroductionThe 4th November 2008 was an important day for the US citizens and the entire world. This day proved for many that the American dream is still possible. For the first time in history an Afro-American candidate became President of the United States of America. Barrack Hussein Obama, a man with an uncommon background, has managed to win the election clearly with 365 electoral votes against his republican counterpart John McCain, who ended his campaign with 173 votes. Who is this man and how did he realize his goal to become president despite the strong competition and the fact that just 40 years ago, racial segregation still was a major problem in the US? Clearly, he was different compared to his rivals in many ways and this finally accounted for his overwhelming result. The following paper shall identify and analyze these success drivers from an organizational behavior perspective. To what extent did he make use of theories discussed in class, like effective leadership and organizational structure? To begin with, the authors will provide a brief overview in regard to the US American election system, a major reason, why the nation was ready for reconsiderations and change. An initial descriptive discussion of Obama's election campaign as well as those of his competitors shall serve as a basis for the following integrativ...

Abdelkrim Dekhakhena Blacks in the New Deal. The Shift from an Electoral Tradition and its Legacy

Master's Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject American Studies - Miscellaneous, , course: American civilization, language: English, abstract: This thesis deals with the reasons behind the Blacks' shift of commitment from the Republican to the Democratic Party during the New Deal period and its legacy. This recurrent phenomenon comes to the fore with every American presidential election since the first election of Roosevelt in 1932. By the coming of the New Deal they shifted their traditional electoral support to the Democratic Party. In addition, this research probes the motives behind this allegiance by examining Blacks' political, social and economic situation and its effect on the political arena. The electoral powerlessness of Blacks in the 1896-1930 period was as much the product of party affiliation as it was the result of disfranchisement. A concrete reconsideration of this process began to happen in the 1930s, when the Roosevelt administration and the New Deal made circumstances favorable. The Black shift of allegiance is interpreted in different ways: First, in relation to Black protest movements and maturation of political consciousness by the beginning of the 20th century up until the New Deal. Second, in relation to Black labor struggle and interracial issues. Third, through the achievements of Roosevelt's relief policies and the inclusion of Black intellectuals as members within the federal government. The Blacks' outpouring support for Ro...

George P. Robertson War Against Islam

This novel is a fictional depiction of the rise of a right-wing Presidential candidate who wins the 2008 election, takes measures to reduce American dependence on Middle Eastern oil and then wages unfettered war on Islamic nations. The story weaves imagination and reality. There are many references to current and historical events. The principal characters resemble actual politicians and world leaders. Astute readers will be able to make the necessary connections, if they so wish. Nonetheless, the fictional equivalents are probably more extreme than similar figures in the real world. Accomplished authors of political thrillers, as well as television shows such as 24, usually venture to the brink then retract. This book goes beyond the precipice, that's what makes it unique.

International Election Observers in Post-Soviet Azerbaijan. Geopolitical Pawns or Agents of Change.

Azerbaijan's parliamentary elections in November 2005 became an arena where domestic and international actors jostled for influence and control. This book highlights the role of international observers in the election process, and presents in-depth assessments of the pre- and post-election situation in Azerbaijan. The 2005 parliamentary elections are of special interest for several reasons. First, oil-rich Azerbaijan offers interesting insights on the relationship between energy wealth and democratisation. Second, the elections in Azerbaijan received considerable international attention. They were seen as a test case of whether the wave of regime change that had affected Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan would spread to other countries in the region. Third, for the first time, a large number of Russian observers served within the Office for Democratic Institution and Human Rights (ODIHR) election observation mission. Finally, the case of Azerbaijan also highlights the methodological and technical aspects of election observation. Among other things, there was extensive - and arguably problematic - use of exit polls. Contents:Leila Alieva on the 2005 international observation mission - Ulvi Amirbekov on the institutional framework - Zafar Guliev on democratic expectations versus the reality of imitation - Zardusht Alizade on the elections as a mirror of Azeri politics and society - Rustam Seyidov on the post-election situation - Torgrul Juvarly and Ali Abasov on economic impl...

Thesis (M.A.) from the year 2014 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: South East Europe, Balkans, grade: 10, , course: World Studies, language: English, abstract: Voting abroad is a topic which is not sufficiently analysed and covered in the literature, but still it is of great importance in relation to the equality of the right to vote for the citizens of a certain state, regardless where they reside. By possessing the citizenship, each citizen acquires rights and duties toward the state of citizenship, and has guaranteed freedom to exercise these rights and duties, among which is the right to vote. Republic of Macedonia as newly independent state whose political system is based on democratic principles, decided to include the Macedonian migrants (diaspora) into the election process by adopting the Law on Amending the Election Code in 2008, thus joining the group of 115 states in the world which enfranchised the diaspora. In this master's thesis the subject of analysis is the external voting of the Macedonian diaspora, by emphasizing the five principles of equality, universality, freedom, secrecy and directness of the right to vote of Macedonian citizens who reside abroad. The analysis is conducted by presenting the legal acts and regulations in the area of election policy of Republic of Macedonia, which shows that legally some of the five democratic principles of suffrage are disrupted.

Dr. Olusegun Mimiko competed in the gubernatorial elections on April 14, 2007, against the incumbent Olusegun Agagu. The Independent Electoral Commission INEC, departing from the norm, announced election results in Abuja, the federal capital, declaring the incumbent the winner. Mimiko contested this decision at the election tribunal and was adjudged winner at the tribunal and the Court of Appeal on February 23, 2009. The Appeal Court, liked the court of first instance, cited massive irregularities in the 2007 election, and ordered that Agagu be replaced by Mimiko as governor. Mimiko then became the first and only member of the Labour Party to win gubernatorial office in Nigeria. Governor Olusegun Mimiko contested and won re-election on October 20, 2012, for a second term, making him the first governor in Ondo State to win a second term election. Mimiko stood in that election as the Labour Party candidate for Nigeria’s Ondo State and polled the highest votes. The court drama that pitched Dr. Rahman Olusegun Mimiko against Dr. Olusegun Kokumo Agagu lasted for two years, 2007 to 2009. It consumed the energy of hundreds of lawyers and the attention of millions of Nigerians. Lewis Chester,Godfrey Hodgson, Bruce Page An American Melodrama: The Presidential Campaign of 1968

For those who can bear to face it again, here is a report on the '68 Presidential campaign by three British journalists who covered it for the London Times. Beginning with the foreboding events of 3/31-4/6, they plunge onward thru the primaries to the conventions, paying rather less attention to the anti-climactic Nixon-Humphrey bout which followed. Using the mass-psychoanalytic approach developed by the better journalism since '63, the authors probe the styles & personalities of the major figures, & interpret phenomena such as Daley, Abby Hoffman & the Kennedy intellectuals. They comment on American violence, on the role of the media & on the conflict between rhetoric & reality in American life. Their insights will not startle readers of liberal-left periodicals, but they write with wit & concision, & have some sharp moments, as in their dissection of Johnson's Vietnam advisers, or in their remarks on Mayor Daley's Newspeak version of the Chicago police frolic. Their acquaintance with American history & idiom is impressive. Some flaws: an attempt to say too much & a paucity of straight political analysis (votegetting strategies etc.) which renders the book less valuable as campaign history than the White studies on '60 & '64. Still, until the mists clear further, this will serve to keep alive the drama of a fantastic & frightening election year.Издательство - The Viking Press

Yaroslav Viazovski Karl Barth.s Doubts about John Calvin.s Assurance

The book is a comparative study of John Calvin's and Karl Barth's doctrines of assurance.Calvin apparently equated faith and assurance. But what did he think about doubts which attack true believers? How did he relate assurance to signs of grace? Did he believe that assurance can be lost? Calvin is popularly associated with the doctrine of election and one might expect that he bases assurance on election. The irony is that for Calvin election is only a secondary foundation of assurance. It was Barth who made assurance a subtopic of the doctrine of election. For him assurance is based on election of Jesus Christ, who is the sole object of God's election and rejection. The shift of the object of election from men to this man implies universal salvation. However the author argues that Barth's uneasiness about universalism is a consistent inconsistency. The term "universalism" is not applicable to Barth's soteriology at all because his view on the afterlife makes this term meaningless. The study is relevant for all interested in theology of Calvin and Barth.

Nir Shaki Karl Barth. The Doctrine of Election and the Ontology of the Trinity

There has been a growing literature on the nature of the relationship, of the doctrine of election, and the being of God. The following monograph is an analysis, and critical appraisal of current debates, over Karl Barth's Doctrine of Election and his theological Ontology of God. The monograph serves as an introduction to Karl Barth's thought on the topic and theology more generally, while dealing with the implications of this for modern theology. It is the first work specifically dedicated to dealing with the current debate between Bruce McCormack, Paul Molnar, and other theologians. The work also provides helpful suggestions for moving the debate ahead. The work would be useful for undergraduate and graduate students in Theology or Religious Studies, especially anyone interested in Karl Barth.

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2012 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: Near East, Near Orient, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, language: English, abstract: In this thesis, I examine and compare the Socioeconomic Status and the Subjective Social Status of the naturalized at the time of naturalization and 15 years after in order to explore how, notwithstanding other factors, the naturalized perceive their situation pre and post-naturalization. I analyze the strength of the association between citizenship acquisition/naturalization and socioeconomic mobility and political participation through Socioeconomic Status (SES) and Subjective Social Status (SSS) among 164 Kurds who were naturalized Lebanese by the Presidential Decree 5247/1994 of June 20, 1994. I also examine their political participation through voting and political partisanship in order to test the theory whether their political engagement at the beginning of the process shifted downward to a state of political apathy in the years since their naturalization, and whether there is a significant gap between them and the native-born in voting turnout.

Scientific Essay from the year 2017 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: USA, grade: 1,3, Academy for Design Cologne, language: English, abstract: In this paper analysis of the candidates of the 2016 presidential elections in the United States will be performed. Firstly, an outline the political system in the United States and how the presidential elections take place will be created. Then their respective biographies, opinions and goals on 2016's key issues, campaigns and popularity will be taken into account, followed by a comparison of the two candidates based on the previous findings, and a conclusion. On November 8th, 2016, the 45th President of the United States of America was elected. The Republicans nominated billionaire and business man Donald Trump while the Democrats were counting on Hillary Clinton as the first female presidential candidate in the history of the United States. Clinton and Trump have both been public figures for decades - Clinton as a livelong politician and Trump as an unconventional billionaire. The contrast between the two candidates could not have been bigger. According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll from May 2016, the presidential race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump was a competition between two candidates viewed unfavorably by a majority of the electorate. The voters' motivation was mostly to vote against the candidate they dislike rather than voting in favor of the person they wanted to lead them (B...

Will the U.S. follow?, language: English, abstract: Since President Barack Obama is in office, it seems that environmental policy became an important value in the U.S.-politics. After his election in 2008 - he promised "change" in his campaign - many things truly changed. Since President Georg W. Bush did not care too much for the environmental policy, his successors in office have a lot of work to do. For instance, Obama has to reduce the CO2-emissions and to support renewable energy projects like solar energy electric power stations to keep up with the rest of the world. However, most of the time, President Obama had to deal with threatening and tough topics as unemployment, health insurance and worldwide terrorism-in his first term as well as in his second one. This term paper deals with Obama's second term and analyses the steps taken in the environmental politics since his re-election. As an introduction, we will have a closer look at the problems in the U.S.-politics since 2012

Allegations of Russian conspiracies meddling in the affairs of Western countries have been a persistent feature of Western politics since the Cold War – allegations of Russian interference in the US presidential election are only the most recent in a long series of conspiracy allegations that mark the history of the twentieth century. But Russian politics is rife with conspiracies about the West too. Everything bad that happens in Russia is traced back by some to an anti-Russian plot that is hatched in the West. Even the collapse of the Soviet Union – this crucial turning point in world politics that left the USA as the only remaining superpower – was, according to some Russian conspiracy theorists, planned and executed by Russia’s enemies in the West. This book is the first-ever study of Russian conspiracy theories in the post-Soviet period. It examines why these conspiracy theories have emerged and gained currency in Russia and what role intellectuals have played in this process. The book shows how, in the new millennium, the image of the ‘dangerous, conspiring West’ provides national unity and has helped legitimize Russia’s rapid turn to authoritarianism under Vladimir Putin.

Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject Sociology - War and Peace, Military, grade: 1,0, Indiana University (Sociology Department ), course: S 660: Politics and Public Opinion Research, 10 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Information and statistics about how a great part of the American public felt about certain issues concerning their life or the nation have not been available for very long. Even in the absence of data there have been vast speculations and reports by the news media on public opinion regarding specific policy decisions by the government. In the maiden decades of the republic policymakers and businessmen were always trying to grasp what the public mood was with respect to a particular event or decision. Yet due to the poorly developed infrastructure and lack of technological innovations at that time it was nearly impossible to find out what the thoughts of a larger part of the population were in a reasonable matter of time. The "scientific" public opinion polling that is taking for granted today is not that old. The American Institute of Public Opinion, more commonly known as the Gallup poll, came into existence in 1935 just in time for the 1936 presidential election between Roosevelt and Landon. The Literary Digest, just as the American Institute, attempted to predict the winner of the 1936 election with the data they collected during their research polling. In the end, the Gallup poll was more accurate and predicted w...

The defeat of ZANU-PF in the 2008 parliamentary election marked the end of one-party rule in Zimbabwe. The Global Political Agreement signed later that resulted in a Government of National Unity, and the former ruling party was, for the first time, faced with the reality of sharing power. As Brian Raftopolos writes in his introduction: 'the book is an attempt to analyse and assess both the hopes and frustrations of the last four years and to confront the harsh challenges that lie ahead.'

Dennis Dawson Elliott Armageddon of a Different Order. Wake Up, America

How did Donald Trump become president? What were his qualifications? What has he accomplished since winning the election in 2016? Dennis Dawson Elliott, a retired professor of journalism, answers those questions and others in this assessment of one of the world's most controversial political leaders. With great frequency, Trump has criticized his presidential election opponent and previous administrations, even after taking office, in place of offering realistic and factually supportable solutions for what he perceives to be pressing issues for the country. Just as concerning, he continues to have little understanding of the power of words and how his declarations have potential negative implications and outcomes with multiple audiences, including Congress. His repetitive banter has little substance, he relies on Twitter as a means of speaking loudly, and he offers little or no substantiation for his claims. While responsible journalists, media outlets and legislative leaders have labored diligently to fact-check his remarks, Trump simply dismisses the reporting and statements as "fake news" as his errors are revealed. This book is a challenge to all Americans to stand up and advocate for their country in reasonable, responsible and ethical ways, regardless of personal ideological leanings. It's also a thoughtful analysis and warning about an Armageddon of a different order already underway.

This work exams rhetorical differences between texts written by the 'journalese' of different cultural practices but using as means of expression the same language: English. The text is based on a research carried out at the master's level at Kenyatta University in Kenya. The purpose of the study was to find out how newspapers compared in their writing practice in the context of Post-2007 Election Violence in Kenya. The study is based on the premise that most newspapers have in-house policies that inform their writing and that writers select certain forms more than others to achieve their goal of writing. The study therefore described, compared and contrasted the linguistic features used by the Daily Nation and The Standard newspapers to cover Post Election Violence and hence explained their discourse function. The literature review provided insight from related studies on discoursal features that apply in texts. Expressions that imply and visualize violence characterized the writing of headlines. On purpose too, specific linguistic features prominently applied in the body of news beats.

Unequal Democracy: The Political Economy of the New Gilded Age

The first edition of Unequal Democracy was an instant classic, shattering illusions about American democracy and spurring scholarly and popular interest in the political causes and consequences of escalating economic inequality. This revised and expanded edition includes two new chapters on the political economy of the Obama era. One presents the Great Recession as a "stress test" of the American political system by analyzing the 2008 election and the impact of Barack Obama's "New New Deal" on the economic fortunes of the rich, middle class, and poor. The other assesses the politics of inequality in the wake of the Occupy Wall Street movement, the 2012 election, and the partisan gridlock of Obama's second term. Larry Bartels offers a sobering account of the barriers to change posed by partisan ideologies and the political power of the wealthy. He also provides new analyses of tax policy, partisan differences in economic performance, the struggle to raise the minimum wage, and inequalities in congressional representation. President Obama identified inequality as "the defining challenge of our time." Unequal Democracy is the definitive account of how and why our political system has failed to rise to that challenge. Now more than ever, this is a book every American needs to read.

Myra Kinnie, Gail Waxman OCOEE.. A Novel

Ocoee! is a powerful coming-of-age story that bears witness to an event that occurred in a small town near Orlando, Florida during the 1920 Presidential election. In response to African Americans attempting to exercise their right to vote, a mob of white supremacists and Ku Klux Klan members went on a rampage through a black neighborhood, killing a number of people and burning many homes. The survivors, nearly 500 of them, fled, never to return. For more than 60 years, Ocoee became a white-only town. This fictionalized account chronicles the massacre and the events surrounding it as seen through the eyes of a spirited, young white girl, Georgia Kambel. Her diary brings to life the community and the many people involved. Her great granddaughter, Cassie, who is writing a thesis about what happened, supplements the entries with her own research, connecting the distant past to our times. What emerges is a poignant tale, filled with love, laughter, anger, violence, heartbreak, tears, and painful realizations about the deep divide of racial relations in the rural South nearly a century ago. But Ocoee! doesn’t merely document a distressing chapter of American history. Ultimately, it is about the power of forgiveness, understanding and healing that points toward the possibility of a better future for all of us today.
