Shawn Andrews Power of Perception. Leadership, Emotional Intelligence, and the Gender Divide

The Power of Perception: Leadership, Emotional Intelligence and the Gender Divide serves as a practical guide to educate women, men and organizations on the barriers that keep women from fully contributing in the workplace. These include differences in leadership style and emotional intelligence, gender bias and stereotypes, breadwinner and caregiver responsibilities, and differences in gender culture which show up every day at work and home. The Power of Perception also explores significant changes in global demographic trends and how our youngest generations are impacting the workplace. The Power of Perception clearly illustrates the reasons that we don't see more women leading our global businesses. It has nothing to do with women's skills and competencies and everything to do with perceptions of women as leaders, as workers, as mothers, and as wives. These perceptions have a significant impact on promotion for many women. Perception is reality--and it's powerful. The Power of Perception provides personal stories of women's journeys, real-world examples, and is based on the author's own research as well as that of many others. Every chapter includes practical, easy-to-apply strategies, summary points, and reflection questions to empower women, men, and organizations to fully leverage talent and diversity.

Fritz Heider The Psychology of Interpersonal Relations

2015 Reprint of 1958 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition. Not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. "The Psychology of Interpersonal Relations" pioneered the modern field of social cognition. A giant of social psychology, Heider had few students, but his book on social perception had many readers, and its impact continues into the 21st Century, having been cited over 13,000 times. In "The Psychology of Interpersonal Relations," Heider argued that social perception follows many of the same rules of physical object perception, and that the organization found in object perception is also found in social perception. Because biases in object perception sometimes lead to errors (e.g., optical illusions), one might expect to find that biases in social perception likewise lead to errors (e.g., underestimating the role social factors and overestimating the effect of personality and attitudes on behavior). Heider also argued that perceptual organization follows the rule of psychological balance. Although tedious to spell out in completeness, the idea is that positive and negative sentiments need to be represented in ways that minimize ambivalence and maximize a simple, straightforward affective representation of the person. He writes "To conceive of a person as having positive and negative traits requires a more sophisticated view; it requires a differentiation of the representation of the person into subparts that are of unlike value (1958, p. 1...

Computational Colour Science Using MATLAB 2nd Edition offers a practical, problem-based approach to colour physics. The book focuses on the key issues encountered in modern colour engineering, including efficient representation of colour information, Fourier analysis of reflectance spectra and advanced colorimetric computation. Emphasis is placed on the practical applications rather than the techniques themselves, with material structured around key topics. These topics include colour calibration of visual displays, computer recipe prediction and models for colour-appearance prediction. Each topic is carefully introduced at three levels to aid student understanding. First, theoretical ideas and background information are discussed, then explanations of mathematical solutions follow and finally practical solutions are presented using MATLAB. The content includes: A compendium of equations and numerical data required by the modern colour and imaging scientist. Numerous examples of solutions and algorithms for a wide-range of computational problems in colour science. Example scripts using the MATLAB programming language. This 2nd edition contains substantial new and revised material, including three innovative chapters on colour imaging, psychophysical methods, and physiological colour spaces; the MATLAB toolbox has been extended with a professional, optimized, toolbox to go alongside the current teaching toolbox; and a java toolbox has been added which will interest users who are writing web applications and/or applets or mobile phone applications. Fabio Zander Climate Change Risk Perception and Pro-Environmental Behavior. Toward a Comprehensive Model

Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Psychology - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,0, Lund University (Department of Psychology), language: English, abstract: Climate change has become one of the greatest concerns of the 21st century as its ramifications pose a major risk to all life on earth. However, not all individuals are aware of this risk and behavioral engagement to counteract the issue is often still lacking. This research examined the relationship between climate change risk perception and pro-environmental behavior. The aim of this cross-sectional study was twofold. First, studying specific pro-environmental behavior and second, using a methodological approach that addresses the measurement inconsistencies in the literature on how to define and operationalize climate change risk perception. The sample consisted of 141 young educated adults (M = 25.67, SD = 2.93) who responded to an online questionnaire. Results showed that climate change risk perception significantly predicted pro-environmental behavior. Comparing personal worry and general concern as two distinct indicators of climate change risk perception indicated that personal worry was stronger correlated to pro-environmental behavior. This relationship was found to be partially mediated by pro-environmental behavioral intentions. Results of a multiple hierarchical regression showed that including personal worry as an additional predictor variable did not significantly increase the explained variance i...

Sensory evaluation is a scientific discipline used to evoke, measure, analyse and interpret responses to products perceived through the senses of sight, smell, touch, taste and hearing. It is used to reveal insights into the way in which sensory properties drive consumer acceptance and behaviour, and to design products that best deliver what the consumer wants. It is also used at a more fundamental level to provide a wider understanding of the mechanisms involved in sensory perception and consumer behaviour. Sensory perception of products alters considerably during the course of consumption/use. Special techniques are used in product development to measure these changes in order to optimise product delivery to consumers. Time-Dependent Measures of Perception in Sensory Evaluation explores the many facets of time-dependent perception including mastication and food breakdown, sensory-specific satiety and sensory memory. Both traditional and cutting-edge techniques and applications used to measure temporal changes in sensory perception over time are reviewed, and insights into the way in which sensory properties drive consumer acceptance and behaviour are provided. This book will be a valuable resource for sensory professionals working in academia and industry, including sensory scientists, practitioners, trainers and students; and industry-based researchers in QA/QC, R&D and marketing.

Djevid Sheiver Jung and remote viewing. Mind and super-perception

Remote viewing is defined as "the peculiarities of perception, allowing to obtain information that is not available to any of the five senses because of the distance in time or space, thanks to a psychic abilities". In other words, distance vision - is to use intuition to describe the goals (objects, events, or any other type of media) that are inaccessible to normal senses due to the fact that they are far away in time (past or future), space (in other parts of the world), or due to blocking by other objects (if the target is, for example, inside a closed steel safe). For a long time it was thought that remote viewing, like other forms of extrasensory perception (telepathy, clairvoyance), are possible thanks to the fact that the brain works as a kind of "mental radio", receiving neuro-electromagnetic waves. However, Russian and American researchers have disproved this theory. The psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung shows that understand extrasensory perception, we can only once explain normal sensory perception. Based on the philosophical writings of Parmenides, Platon and Kant, Jung reveals how unconscious archetypes enable both sensory and extrasensory perception. Synchrony as non-causal principle of the connection between mind and matter, finds a continuum of consciousness-matter, establishes a link not only between the mind and the universe, but between science and spirituality. Synchrony - is the link that makes remote viewing possible.

Colour is a sensation and as such it is a subjective and incommunicable quantity. Colour measurement is possible because we can create a correspondence between colour sensations and the light radiations that stimulate them. This correspondence concerns the physics of light radiation, the physiology of the visual process and the psychology of vision. Historically, in parallel to standard colorimetry, systems for colour ordering have been developed that allow colour specifications in a very practical and concrete way, based on the direct vision of material colour samples arranged in colour atlases. Colour-ordering systems are sources of knowledge of colour vision, which integrate standard colorimetry. Reconciliation of Geometry and Perception in Radiation Physics approaches the topic of projective geometry as it applies to radiation physics and attempts to negate its negative reputation. With an original outlook and transversal approach, the book emphasizes common geometric properties and their potential transposition between domains. After defining both radiation and geometric properties, authors Benoit and Pierre Beckers explain the necessity of reconciling geometry and perception in fields like architectural and urban physics, which are notable for the regularity of their forms and the complexity of their interactions.

World-renowned neuroscientist Beau Lotto reveals the truths of human perception and devises a cognitive toolkit for how to succeed in a world of uncertainty. Perception is the foundation of human experience, but few of us understand how our own perception works. By revealing the startling truths about the brain and perception, Beau Lotto shows that the next big innovation is not a new technology: it is a new way of seeing. In his first major book, Beau Lotto draws on over a decade of pioneering research to show how our brains play tricks on us. With an innovative combination of case studies and optical- and perception-illusion exercises, DEVIATE will revolutionise the way you see the world. With this new understanding of how the brain works and its perceptive trickery, we can apply these insights to every aspect of life and work. DEVIATE is not just an engaging look into the neuroscience of thought, behaviour and creativity: it is a call to action, enlisting readers in their own journey of self-discovery. .

The purpose of this study is to highlight the features of phraseological units worth adjectival and their use by certain social groups by identifying the relationship of man and his conceptions of life reflected in language. In some idioms I analyze the semantic relationships between words examples detached from the daily discourse from various dictionaries , to shed light on the relationships that somehow creates man and nature that surrounds his perception of the world , the environment , a phenomenon human senses , I compare these observations with the English language. In the following examples I observed how they make use of adjectival phraseological units in different areas and in different groups or communities. By simple reasoning many of these concepts to life , the environment surrounding the manner of perception of a community or a particular social group.

Fletcher Kovich The Tragedy of Perception. A comic allegory about communication problems

In a town called Perception, the citizens are ruled by an extravagant madness. It demands they vandalize the gardens of any neighbours whose words they cannot understand, spit venom at the devious devils who are clearly trying to make them look stupid, dream up retaliatory sexual exploits to repay the scheming men in their lives, and that an elderly citizen should dance in the street in imitation of a disabled, flying rodent to attempt to embarrass her visiting relatives. And amid this mayhem, the chief constable is desperate to identify the criminal amongst his citizens but is as flummoxed as the rest; while in the community’s goldfish bowls, the behaviour of the fish mimics the human pantomime around them, which engages the interest of an eccentric, local professor. The Tragedy of Perception is a comic allegory about communication problems.

Nadamova Gulnara The Analysis Between Passersby and Beggars

The book includes information about a research of how people decide to help to beggars or reject to help. The analysis of interaction between beggars and passersby shows how perception of begging is socially and culturally constructed by institutions. In this work, the shift and changing of perception, is explained by contrasting Ottoman Empire with Modern Turkey. Thus, in Ottoman Empire begging was permitted and controlled, so the perception was also positive about begging. On the contrary, in Modern Turkey the begging is punishable and banned, so this constructed by institutions perception leads to definite interactions with beggars. People of Istanbul tend to help to disabled, women with children, or elderly beggars and strongly against to help to young, healthy, able men. The category of a beggar regulates the decision of helping. The crucial findings show that people are more likely to help beggars who are professionally skilled and who are self confident with clean and well-kept appearances. Thus it is not helping but it is a social exchange that makes people to decide to help. People tend to help with an expectation of return.

Thiruvenkadan A.K Genetics of coat colour in horses

For thousands of years horses have been linked to humankind, as beasts of burden and in war. In most recent times, the emphasis of use has been on sport and recreation. Though, the colour of horses has little to do with its performance, it is a primary means of identification and also the first indicator of questionable parentage. Tremendous progress in horse's coat colour genetics resulted in identification of different colour patterns with their mode of inheritance. The main aim of this book is collect all the available data related to coat colour patterns and bring together non-united areas of research. This book covers all major directions in horse coat colour inheritance. The second chapter provides information about melanogenesis and genetics of pigmentation. Chapters 3 and 4 are devoted to detailed description of different coat colour patterns. The molecular basis of different coat colour patterns is presented in Chapter 5. This book is addressed to broad audience, which includes students, lecturers, researchers and horse breeders working in the industry. As such it is hoped that the information presented will provide valuable guidance to scientists and breeders.

Esteban Hack Susceptibilities of the Tourism Industry. The Effect of Terrorism on commercial Surf Tourism

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Tourism, grade: 2.1, University of Plymouth (Cornwall College Newquay (in partnership with UoP)), course: Marine Sports Science (BSc Hons), language: English, abstract: The tourism industry has significant repercussions in regards to economic value to destinations worldwide but is susceptible to external shocks such as terrorism as tourist numbers follow terroristic activity causing economic damage to destinations beyond managerial control. Surf tourism is of growing economic, social and environmental value to destinations in Indonesia due to the region's abundance of high quality waves and resulting attractiveness to surfers however, it is a region frequented by terrorist activity. The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of terrorism on commercial surf tourism as a sub segment of the global tourism industry. Data was obtained using a survey consisting of 5 closed ended questions assessing IAO variables of traveling surfers regarding the perception of terrorism as a risk influencing destination choice and travel plans. 42 usable responses were collected over a three-month period from January 7th to March 28th 2016. Results of the statistical analysis suggest that surfers demonstrate a different behaviour in comparison to other tourists and have a low perception of terrorism as a risk influencing destination choice. In fact, from the data and statistical analysis it appears that the significant reliance on the qu...

Master's Thesis from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: 2,0, European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), language: English, abstract: Anthropomorphization happens whenever human characteristics are imputed to in-animate objects. This aptitude is observable in all cultures because it simplifies the interaction with nonliving objects (Fournier 1998, p.344). In search for ways to en-courage lasting costumer relationships the brand personality concept becomes a more prominent anthropomorphization in marketing. Brand personality is: "the set of hu-man characteristics associated with a brand" (Aaker 1997, p. 347).Aaker's brand personality scale was chosen for the purpose of this paper to create and analyze an online survey among Polish and German people in order to assess cultural differences in the perception of brand personalities.

Colour and the Optical Properties of Materials carefully introduces the science behind the subject, along with many modern and cutting-edge applications, chosen to appeal to today's students. For science students, it provides a broad introduction to the subject and the many applications of colour. To more applied students, such as engineering and arts students, it provides the essential scientific background to colour and the many applications. New to this Edition: The chapter framework of the first edition will be retained, with each chapter being substantially rewritten and some material would be relocated. Some chapters will be rewritten in a clearer fashion, e.g. There have been no significant advances in the understanding of rainbows recently, but the text could be clarified and improved. Colour has been an important attribute of many nano-particle containing systems, such as quantum dots. This aspect will be included, e.g. the colour of gold ruby glass, described in Chapter 5 as part of scattering phenomena now is better treated in terms of gold nanoparticles and surface plasmons. This would probably be transferred to Chapter 10 and considered in tandem with the colour of metals such as copper, silver and gold. A similar state of affairs applies to silver nanoparticles and polychromic glass. Some chapters will include extensive new material, e.g. Chapter 8, colours due to molecular processes [organic LEDs etc], and Chapter 12, Displays, [touch screen technologies]. For all chapters it would be intended to take into account the current scientific literature up to the time of submission – say up to the end of 2009. The end of chapter Further Reading sections would reflect this up-to-date overview. The end of chapter problems will be strengthened and expanded.

Urgessa Tilahun Farmers Perception of Climate Change and Conservation Agriculture in Western Ethiopia

Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Agrarian Studies, grade: A, Wollega University, language: English, abstract: Climate is a primary determinant of agricultural productivity. Ethiopia, one of the developing countries, is facing serious natural resource degradation problems. Adaptation strategies for environmental conservation require cooperation and local participation in environmental rehabilitation which in turn requires examining the local peoples' willingness, beliefs, knowledge, attitude, interest and perception about climate change and conservation agriculture. The main objective of this study was to examine the farmer's perceptions and adaptation to climate change and participation in conservation agriculture. The data used for the study were collected from 142 farm households heads drawn from the five kebeles of Sasiga district and four kebeles of Guto Gida district. Primary data were collected using a structured questionnaire. In addition, secondary data were extracted from relevant sources to supplement the data obtained from the survey. In addition to descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation and percentages used, Heckman two stage sample selection model was employed to examine farmer's perceptions and adaptations of climate change. Farmers level of education, household nonfarm income, livestock ownership, extension on crop and livestock, households credit availability, temperature and precipitation were those variables w...

Computational Colour Science Using MATLAB 2nd Edition is an invaluable resource for students taking courses in colour science, colour chemistry and colour physics as well as technicians and researchers working in the area. In addition, it acts a useful reference for professionals and researchers working in colour dependent industries such as textiles, paints, print & electronic imaging. Review from First Edition: “…highly recommended as a concise introduction to the practicalities of colour science…” (Color Technology, 2004)
