Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: The German banking sector, as in most Western European countries, is confronted with drastic changes which deeply affect the conditions of the financial service market and the characteristics of populations in banks. In the last few years, the isolation of the national financial markets decreased due to the increasing of foreign trade, international competition, and further developments of new financial products, like futures for example. Therefore, all banks have to think globally and have to establish branches in all financial centers to be available for their clients and stay competitive; like in New York City, London, Tokyo, Zurich, and Frankfurt am Main, cities in which the financial market plays an important role. As it is widely known, Switzerland has an outstanding international position in the investment banking sector. This condition was taken as an opportunity to examine the diamond concept of Porter related to the Swiss and German human resources. The thesis is divided into five chapters, of which the first chapter gives a general overview of the investment banking sector, which is the definition, the fields of activity, and the traded securities in the investment banking sector. The German and Swiss bank system is exemplified in the second chapter. Furthermore, this chapter gives a short overview of the banks´ history in Germany and Switzerland as well as examples of training programs of the German Deutsche Morgan Grenfell and Commerzbank ...

Seminar paper from the year 2006 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,3, European Business School - International University Schloß Reichartshausen Oestrich-Winkel, course: Seminar Retail Banking, 52 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: German banks have come under pressure for their disappointing profitability. Indeed, rankings of developed nations along profitability indicators place Germany at the end of the scale. Critics attribute that situation mainly to the German banking system being overbanked and overbranched. The purpose of this paper is to analyze that notion and to examine the German market and competitive landscape of the retail banking industry. The analysis contains four sections. The first section compares profitability ratios and indicators of German banks to their peers' performances. The study produces surprising results. Despite the ostensibly high branch density, Germany's banks operate very cost efficiently. Yet it is their inability to generate sufficient income that results in the sluggish net earnings.Consequently, in the second section, the authors examine the German banking system and portray and compare its peculiarities in order to find out if the income problems are inherent to the system. More than in any other country, public banks dominate the market and, together with the cooperative banks, do not follow the economic principle of profit maximization. Moreover, the public banks have...

Digital banking offers banks new opportunities and challenges. This paper gives a comprehension of how demographic characteristics, social components and consumer perception and attitudes towards digital banking influence its adoption. Digital banking has been developed in order to enable consumers to gain a greater share in the banking market. In Mauritius, there is little awareness about the emergence of digital banking despite the fact that this service is presently representing an important share in the banking market. This is because digital banking is a new industry here, and therefore, consumer acceptance and use of digital banking is still limited. To date, very little research has been conducted into factors which influence consumer adoption of digital banking in Mauritius, and so, therefore, there is a need for a study such as this.A research framework in light of the diffusion of innovation theory was utilized to identify elements that would impact the adoption of digital banking. This report has evaluated current literature and conclusions about this innovation banking technology. It has likewise reviewed the elements, including consumer demographic c...

Master's Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,0, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) (Finanzen, Banken und Versicherungen (FBV)), language: English, abstract: This paper being the first to examine the phenomenon of league table competition in the market of debt underwriting, we show significant influence of the recent league table performance on the behavior of investment banks in the U.S. corporate bond market. Similar to results for the credit rating market, we document a focus on bonds of higher quality for those investment banks, which faced a decline in league table rankings compared to the previous year. This perspective further differentiates, when we expand our analysis by the fraction of revenues an underwriter generates by investment banking services. While underwriters with a diversified revenue base behave as suggested by our initial results, we find specialized investment banks to even lower certification standards. Finally, we show the compensation of underwriters to be influenced by their recent league table performance. These results are consistent with previous findings and further illustrate the motivation of investment banks to compete for the best ranks in the league tables.

This work examined certain key characteristics of the banking employee that may make him/her a more ethical and moral decision-maker based on Kohlberg's Cognitive Moral Development theory. This study attempted to answer the salient question: Can ethics courses and/or training help develop a more moral employee in the banking industry? The answer to this key question led to answers to other related ethical issues in the banking industry. To facilitate this examination, the Defining Issues Test (DIT) was used. James R. Rest was the developer of this testing format, which ascertains the level of moral maturity on the Kohlbergian scale. The study thus focused on determining whether or not banking employees who had taken ethics courses and/or training possess higher moral maturity and thus may make for more moral decision-makers, or whether ethics courses and/or training make no difference to the banking employees' moral maturity levels, and consequently have no influence in their moral decision-making. The study, also, explored any relationships among moral maturity and age, gender, and the educational level of the banking employees.

Seminar paper from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,0, Istanbul Marmara University (Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences), course: Bank Funds Management, language: English, abstract: The Islamic finance industry has been on the rise with the Islamic banking sector growing throughout crises. Turkey's Islamic banking sector is said to have shown just a moderate growth compared to its actual potential and global developments. The country's Islamic banks are said to grow further depending on whether they're able to improve investments, and to find sources of mid- to long-term funding for their investment activities. In the Islamic finance industry Sukuk, a form of Shariah-compliant securitization, emerged as a viable form of finance for both sovereign and corporate entities that seek for Shariah-compliant long-term financing sources. Since the international breakthrough in 2001, Sukuk certificates have been increasingly issued in various jurisdictions throughout the Middle East and Asia, and in parts of the western world. Liberalization efforts by the Malaysian government has allowed for foreign equity participation for Islamic banking and Islamic insurance, making competition among banks in Malaysia offering Islamic banking services more intense. The primary objective of this study is to examine how corporate image, service quality, and customer perceived value affect relationship quality and subsequently switching intention among Islamic banking customers in a dual banking environment. Therefore, a framework was developed to examine in a single model the relationship between relationship quality and switching intention among Islamic banking customers in Malaysia. Structural equation modeling was conducted to test all hypotheses in the study. Findings of this study show perceived value to be highly associated with relationship quality while corporate image and service quality did not influence relationship quality.

The global financial recession, which followed, highlighted a gloomy rate of interdependence in the banking world. It exposed the tight interconnection of the American real estate market and the structures of the global financial market (Panagopoulos et al. 2009, 2-4).In December 2010, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision published the report ''Basel III: A Global Regulatory Framework for More Resilient Banks and BankingSystems'' which will be implemented gradually across the European Union (among others) between 2013 and 2019 and supplements the existing International Convergence of Capital Measurement Document (Basel II) which was implementedin 2008 (Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, 2013).The reformed capital and liquidity requirements for banks, Basel III, is a response to the global financial crisis and represents a substantial step forward from its predecessor regime, Basel II which already based credit costs on the degree of risk. One of the most significant outcomes of Basel III will be the enormous rise in the banking industry's capital requirements and the rise in lending as well as borrowing costs (Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, 2013).Real est...

Even though the American subprime crisis of 2007 took many people by surprise, financial and banking crises are not new phenomena. They have occurred in most developed and developing countries for centuries. Because bank failures threaten the financial stability of an economy as well as spread economic uncertainty generally, banking crises are of great concern to policymakers. When Systems Create Crises discusses the role political institutions play in creating banking crises. Through the presentation of four case studies covering banking crises in the United States and Japan from the 1920s to the 1990s, Øren argues that similar institutional developments are present in each case. Increased competition in capital markets and the loosening of financial regulation have characterized the political institutions in the periods leading to crises. This book stresses the importance of developing proper political institutions in order to prevent future crises.
