Pinaki Satpathy Design and Implementation of carry select adder using T-Spice

Adders are the basic building blocks of any processor or data path application. In adder design, carry generation is the critical path. To reduce the power consumption of the data path, we need to reduce the area of the adder. Carry Select Adder is one of the fast adders used in may data path applications. The proposed design is implemented without using multiplexer and RCA structure with Cin=1. Instead of using multiplexer and RCA Cin=1 structure, we use simple combinational circuit. After speed, power dissipation is one of the most important design objectives in integrated circuits. As adders are the most widely used components in such circuits, the design of efficient adder is of much concern for researchers. This study presents a performance analysis of different Fast Adders. The comparison is done on the basis of three performance parameters, i.e. Area, Speed and Power consumption. We also show a modified carry select adder designed at different stages.

Although the overall appearance of modern airliners has not changed a lot since the introduction of jetliners in the 1950s, their safety, efficiency and environmental friendliness have improved considerably. Main contributors to this have been gas turbine engine technology, advanced materials, computational aerodynamics, advanced structural analysis and on-board systems. Since aircraft design became a highly multidisciplinary activity, the development of multidisciplinary optimization (MDO) has become a popular new discipline. Despite this, the application of MDO during the conceptual design phase is not yet widespread. Advanced Aircraft Design: Conceptual Design, Analysis and Optimization of Subsonic Civil Airplanes presents a quasi-analytical optimization approach based on a concise set of sizing equations. Objectives are aerodynamic efficiency, mission fuel, empty weight and maximum takeoff weight. Independent design variables studied include design cruise altitude, wing area and span and thrust or power loading. Principal features of integrated concepts such as the blended wing and body and highly non-planar wings are also covered. The quasi-analytical approach enables designers to compare the results of high-fidelity MDO optimization with lower-fidelity methods which need far less computational effort. Another advantage to this approach is that it can provide answers to “what if” questions rapidly and with little computational cost. Key features: Presents a new fundamental vision on conceptual airplane design optimization Provides an overview of advanced technologies for propulsion and reducing aerodynamic drag Offers insight into the derivation of design sensitivity information Emphasizes design based on first principles Considers pros and cons of innovative configurations Reconsiders optimum cruise performance at transonic Mach numbers Advanced Aircraft Design: Conceptual Design, Analysis and Optimization of Subsonic Civil Airplanes advances understanding of the initial optimization of civil airplanes and is a must-have reference for aerospace engineering students, applied researchers, aircraft design engineers and analysts.

A much-needed primer on the use of laser flow cytometry for stem cell analysis Laser flow cytometry is a powerful tool for rapid analysis of cells for marker expression, cell cycle position, proliferation, and apoptosis. However, no resources specifically address the use of this methodology for the study of stem cells; this is especially important as stem cell analysis involves specialized methods and staining procedures based on specific characteristics such as marker expression, cell size, drug transport, and efflux of the stem cells. Now, this book reviews these procedures, discusses the science behind them, and provides real-world examples to illustrate the usefulness of the methods. It brings together world-class experts in pathology, biophysics, immunology, and stem cell research, who draw upon their extensive experience with the methods and show examples of good data to help guide researchers in the right direction. Chapter coverage includes: Stem cell analysis and sorting using side population Flow cytometry in the study of proliferation and apoptosis Stem cell biology and application Identification and isolation of very small embryonic-like stem cells from murine and human specimens Hematopoietic stem cells—issues in enumeration Human embryonic stem cells: long-term culture and cardiovascular differentiation Limbal stem cells and corneal regeneration Flow cytometric sorting of spermatogonial stem cells Breast cancer stem cells Stem cell marker expression in cells from body cavity fluids This book is an essential resource for all graduate students, practitioners in developing countries, libraries and book repositories of universities and research institutions, and individual researchers. It is also of interest to laboratories engaged in stem cell research and use of stem cells for tissue regeneration, and to any organization dealing in stem cell and tissue regeneration research.

Photovoltaic (PV) power generation is becoming widespread as a clean and gentle energy source for the earth. The main drawback of currently used photovoltaic cell is its low conversion efficiency and materials with the appropriate band gaps that can perfectly match the broad range of solar radiation. Recently it has been shown that the energy gap of InxGa1-xN alloys potentially can be continuously varied from 0.7 to 3.4 eV, providing a perfect matching to the full-solar-spectrum. Therefore, InxGa1-xN becomes a promising material for very high efficiency multijunction solar cell. Any desired value of bandgap can be obtained from this material choosing the appropriate composition. In this work, InxGa1-xN-based multijunction solar cells have been designed theoretically for high efficiency and the performance of the designed solar cells are evaluated with various parameters.

Soft-switching PWM full-bridge converters have been widely used in medium-to-high power dc-dc conversions for topological simplicity, easy control and high efficiency. Early works on soft-switching PWM full-bridge converter by many researchers included various topologies and modulation strategies. However, these works were scattered, and the relationship among these topologies and modulation strategies had not been revealed. This book intends to describe systematically the soft-switching techniques for pulse-width modulation (PWM) full-bridge converters, including the topologies, control and design, and it reveals the relationship among the various topologies and PWM strategies previously proposed by other researchers. The book not only presents theoretical analysis, but also gives many detailed design examples of the converters.

Shah Duoaud, Lilge Lothar Selective electrical lysis of single cell membranes by microfluidics

Biological fields ranging from cancer to stem cell research can benefit heavily from chemical cytometry on a single cell level. The dimensionality of the retrievable analytes content directly affects the impact that chemical cytometry can have on these fields. Consequently, the number of different analytes that can be identified and their subcellular localization are of significant importance. We present an electrical lysis based approach to selectively lyse only the plasma membrane of a single cell. This method permits analysis of the dissolved cytoplasm and reduces contributions from the nucleus and membrane bound fractions of the cell analytes. A microfluidic device provides the enabling technological platform to perform the electrical lysis on a single cell while allowing a high degree of control over the cell's movement and location.

Modern applications frequently employ sophisticated object-oriented design. In these codes, deep loop nests are often spread across multiple routines. To achieve high performance, such codes rely on compilers to inline routines and optimize loops. Consequently, to effectively interpret performance, transformed loops must be understood in the calling context of transformed routines. *** To understand the performance of optimized object-oriented code, we describe how to analyze optimized object code and its debugging sections to recover its program structure and reconstruct a mapping back to its source code. Using this mapping, we combine the recovered static program structure with dynamic call path profiles to expose inlined frames and loop nests. Experiments show that performance visualizations based on this information provide unique insight into the performance of complex object-oriented codes written in C++. *** This work should be of interest to performance tools developers and, more broadly, application developers who care about performance. It is implemented in Rice University's HPCToolkit, a performance analysis toolkit.

Rawat Pratish, Sudhakar K. Solar Photovoltaic Thermal (PV/T) Hybrid Water Collector

An extensive amount of research on PV-Thermal collectors has been carried out over the past 25 years. The electrical conversion efficiency of solar cell is in the range of 6-15%, depending on type solar-cell at standard temperature and pressure. When a solar radiation incident on the panel it generate electricity and 75-80% of the absorbed radiation is dissipated in the form of heat to the surrounding after photovoltaic conversion. High solar irradiation increases the electrical conversion efficiency but also increases the temperature of panel. A PV/T hybrid system is a combination of photovoltaic and solar thermal system. The solar PV/T system is an integrated system which can produce both electricity and heat simultaneously. In this work, performance evaluation of PV/T hybrid water collector is evaluated and compared with the solar PV system. The hybrid design gives additional advantages, such as a reduction of the thermal stresses and hence a longer life of the PV module, high performance and reliability, low maintenance and a stabilization of the solar cell current-voltage characteristics. The collected thermal energy can be used for low temperature applications.

Inhaltsangabe:Introduction: Within this thesis fundamentals of performance attribution are treated as well as the practical implementation of such a system. However, for many people who already asked to receive a copy of this work, the most important part will be the analysis of the (partly internet based) questionnaire revolving around performance attribution. The theoretical part contains the fundamentals of portfolio theory and the constructive CAPM, followed by basics of portfolio management. Next topics are the estimation of risk and performance for investment portfolios. The finishing touch is done by introduction of performance attribution theories handling both, equity and bond attribution. Within the practical part a short analysis of the affected asset management company is performed, accompanied by research of performance presentation. A questionnaire has been sent to 80 non-banks of the German HDAX index as well as to all members of the BVI. Furthermore an internet based version of the questionnaire has been introduced to a large number of institutional clients. The analysis of this questionnaire is one of the topics of this work. For the affected company the results from the questionnaire are used to identify the competitors’ possibilities and the clients’ needs, resulting in fundamental ideas for the catalogue of requirements. The analysis of the investment process and based on this the choice and the implementation of a performance attribution system are the la...

The powertrain is at the heart of vehicle design; the engine – whether it is a conventional, hybrid or electric design – provides the motive power, which is then managed and controlled through the transmission and final drive components. The overall powertrain system therefore defines the dynamic performance and character of the vehicle. The design of the powertrain has conventionally been tackled by analyzing each of the subsystems individually and the individual components, for example, engine, transmission and driveline have received considerable attention in textbooks over the past decades. The key theme of this book is to take a systems approach – to look at the integration of the components so that the whole powertrain system meets the demands of overall energy efficiency and good drivability. Just like building physics, performance based building design was hardly an issue before the energy crises of the 1970ies. With the need to upgrade energy efficiency, the interest in overall building performance grew. The term «performance» encompasses all building-related physical properties and qualities that are predictable during the design stage and controllable during and after construction. The term «predictable» demands calculation tools and physical models that allow evaluating a design, whereas «controllable» presumes the existence of measuring methods available on site. The basis for a system of performance arrays are the functional demands, the needs for accessibility, safety, well-being, durability, energy efficiency and sustainability and the requirements imposed by the usage of a building. In continuation of Vol. 1 this second volume discusses light-weight construction with wooden and metal elements, roofing systems, facades, and ends with finishes and the overall risk analysis. Most chapters build on a same scheme: overview, overall performance evaluation, design and construction. The work is absolutely recommended to undergraduates and graduates in architectural and building engineering, though also building engineers, who want to refresh their knowledge, may benefit. The level of discussion assumes the reader has a sound knowledge of building physics, along with a background in structural engineering, building materials and building construction. Where and when needed, input and literature from over the world was used, reason why each chapter ends listing references and literature.

Building Performance Evaluation (BPE) informs and enhances the usability and sustainability of building designs with lessons learned from evaluation of building performance throughout the building life cycle, from initial planning through occupancy to adaptive re-use. A key feature of BPE is that it examines design and technical performance of buildings alongside human performance criteria. That is, it seeks to examine facilities in order to determine whether they will work for the people that will use and occupy them. Rigorous BPE helps to improve design practice by providing feedback on the effectiveness of the choices made about the building to ensure that its design is optimised for stakeholders’ uses. The overarching theme for Enhancing Building Performance is to present the next generation of BPE work. The book provides an updated systematic approach for BPE as well as chapters written by experts from around the world who demonstrate how to apply BPE to enhance building design. Topics covered include: evidence-based and integrative design processes, evaluation methods and tools, and education and knowledge transfer.
