There is nothing worse than leaving home country. Instability in many parts of the world has led to massive displacement of civilian population with associated shortage of basic services such as food, water, shelter and health services often leading to higher incidence of morbidity and mortality. Malnutrition and anaemia remain one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality among displaced population throughout the world. The most vulnerable to suffer from the consequences of malnutrition and anaemia are refugee children due to their living condition. Although the burden of malnutrition and anaemia is expected to be high in protracted refugee areas, the magnitude of malnutrition and anaemia and their determinants among refugee children are not well identified and documented. The objective of this work is to assess the magnitude and determinants of under nutrition and anaemia among refugee preschool children in Kebribeyah refugee camp, Ethiopia.

Shrestha Bhattarai Jamuna The KAP Level of Female Adolescents on SRH in Rural Sri Lanka

This book provides detail information about the KAP level of female adolescents on SRH in Rural Communities of Srilanka. It is of high interest to get to know the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) level and health seeking behavior of adolescents and to see how they deal with the respective health problems, particularly in rural Sri Lanka. The lack of adequate information sources, self awareness among adolescents and access to services in the community are the main determinants for the low KAP level among adolescents with regard to RH-related issues. The unavailability of specific ARH service centers were found to be one of the main factors affecting adolescents' health service seeking behavior in these areas. Similarly, doubt of breaking confidentiality when visiting the facility and receiving services were prevailing. This is another discouraging factor for Adolescents' SRH seeking practice. Due to the unavailability of friendly health services, constantly existing traditional beliefs and social norms and the lack of sensitivity toward SRH among parents, adolescents are being discouraged to visit HF.

Banda Andrew Treatment of Ari and Diarrhea Among Under-Five Children in Zambia

In developing countries children experience repeated episodes of diarrhea and acute respiratory infection (ARI), treatment of these child illnesses still remains a challenge. This study seeks to investigate factors associated with the treatment of ARI and diarrhoea among children under-five years in Zambia based on nationally representative 2007 Zambia Demographic Health Survey (ZDHS) data. Determinants of treatment are varied, thus it is interesting to investigate which ones are, among the many determinants of treatment. On average, out of the total 909 (15.6%) and 1447 (22.6%) children who had diarrhea and ARI respectively two weeks prior the 2007 DHS, 32.5% and 34.3% did not receive any treatment for diarrhea and ARI respectively. For thousands of years, religion has been a key element of human societies. Wheneverwe, as educators, exclude or minimize religion's vast role in society, we leave out alarge part of our world's shared history. This is a serious act of educational omission, even neglect, on the part of our nation's public middle and secondary schools, particularly when adolescents are so ready to engage in meaningful conversation aboutthe world that surrounds them. Academic Paper from the year 2017 in the subject Law - Miscellaneous, grade: 85%, , course: Access to Justice, language: English, abstract: Different people face different legal problems. The legal needs in a poor rural community will be quite dissimilar to the legal needs of an affluent suburban community in Addis Ababa or Adama. Both sets of needs for just resolution of the existing conflicts, however, could be equally important and pressing since they both have a deep impact on everyday life. In a more abstract way, access to justice is defined as 'commonly applied process that people address in order to cope with their legal problems'. A court procedure is an obvious example of access to justice. However, the definition includes both formal and informal procedures. This means that a mediation procedure, or a procedure before an informal Commission or other neutral third party, also qualifies as access to justice. An example of access to justice is a criminal procedure for a victim of robbery. The beginning of the path may be calling the police and the end of the path may be a court verdict or a dropped case due to insufficient evidence. This research aims to measure the adequacy of the legal system to respond to the needs of individuals, communities, and societies in the Arsi zone of Oromia region. The path to justice can be measured from the perspective of the user or the service provider. Holistic measurement of justice from the perspective of the users provides...

Paris S. Strom, Robert D. Strom Adolescents In The Internet Age. Teaching And Learning From Them, 2nd Edition

A volume in Lifespan LearningSeries Editors Paris S. Strom, Auburn Universityand Robert D. Strom, Arizona State UniversityTeaching adolescents and learning from them is the paradigm elaborated throughout this secondedition of Adolescents in the Internet Age. The premise is based upon four assumptions: (1) Adolescentshave unique experiences that qualify them as the most credible source on what growing up is like in the currentenvironment; (2) Adolescents are more competent than many adults with tools of technology that willbe needed for learning in the future; (3) Adolescents and adults can support mutual development by adoptingthe concept of reciprocal learning; and (4) The common quest of adolescents to gain adult identity couldbe attained before employment.Expectations are the theme for every chapter. The reason expectations are so important is becausethey influence goals, determine priorities, and are used to evaluate progress and achievements of individualsand institutions. When teacher expectations correspond with the abilities and interests of students, achievement and satisfaction are common outcomes. In contrast, if teachers expect too little, student potentialcan be undermined. There is also concern if expectations that students have for themselves surpass their abilities. This occurs if teachers do notinform students about their deficits. Multitasking, doing too many things at the same time, detracts from productivity. Sharing accountability dependsupon complimentary...

Patricia Mawusi Amos Problems of Adolescents and Self-Concept

There are a number of transitions and crises periods in the life span of every individual and adolescence represents one of these periods where great strain and sometimes confusion results. In the Winneba municipality in Ghana for instance, it has been noted that majority of the students in the senior high schools, come from different regions who attend school in this municipality. As a result, it has been noted that they spend most of their time with their peers than with their parents; since they are resident students. In view of that it is assumed their peers have great influence on their behaviours. It is upon this note that the researcher would like to investigate into peer support mediating adolescents' psychosocial problems and their self-concept. This analysis should help counsellors to be aware of the prevailing psychosocial problems of adolescents in the municipality and thereby find ways of improving their services to assist them in their schools. It should help create the awareness of parents, teachers and guidance and counselling coordinators about the extent to which the peer group influence the adolescents' self-concept and also the need to develop the self-concept.

A complete guide to evidence based interventions for children and adolescents The past decade has witnessed the development of numerous interventions proved to be highly effective; several treatments are now considered to be «well established» or «probably efficacious» interventions for children. Given the range of providers working with children—clinical psychologists, child psychiatrists, clinical social workers, school psychologists, and marriage and family therapists—this book is designed to provide all professionals the information they now need about the use of these evidence-based interventions (EBIs), as well as the evaluation criteria used to determine their efficacy in in meeting the mental health needs of children. Alfano and Beidel have assembled a team of experts to write the disorder chapters. Each chapter begins with an overview of the disorder then delves into evidence-based approaches to treatment, the impact of parental involvement, case-by-case modifications, progress measurement, and clinical examples. In overview chapters the editors cover: The role of development in treatment planning and implementation Dissemination of EBIs into school and community settings The use of controversial therapies with children Emerging methods of service delivery and access improvement Comprehensive Evidence Based Interventions for Children and Adolescents provides clinicians, researchers, and students alike with the theoretical, conceptual, and practical skills to provide children and adolescents with the best care possible.
