Ensuring access to education for the Dalits of India has been the greatest challenge for the Indian government in diminishing the social effects of the caste system, which still remain entrenched in Indian society. There have been many different reasons proposed as to why the Dalits suffer from low rates of literacy and primary education enrolment, but the most realistic one describes history and unequal access as the causes. The ancient caste system of India, which has resulted in the social and economic oppression of the Dalits, continues to play a dominant role in India. The Dalits, also known as the scheduled caste or untouchables, have experienced consistent denial to access to education since the 1850s. This decade coincided with Britain’s established control over India, which meant many of the improvements to Dalit education were coming from outside influences, rather than from the national government.

This study addresses one central question: Why did democracy succeed in India but not in Pakistan? The central argument of the study is that there is political participation of the military in Pakistan but not in India due to three closely inter-related reasons. First, as a result of the British colonial experience in the United India from the 19th century up to the independence of Pakistan in 1947, the Hindus held pro-western and pro-democracy orientation, while the Muslims resisted entrance into the western education system. Second, the early building of political institutions in India prevented the Indian army from seeking a direct role in the mainstream politics of India. In contrast, the constant fragility of the political institutions in Pakistan from 1947 to present, led frequent coup d’états in Pakistan. Third, there was a significant difference in the way the Indian and Pakistani military perceived them, as an Organ of the state or a custodian of the state. Another important insight of this study is that the US played a strong role in encouraging democracy in India, on the one hand, and supporting the military’s role in the politics of Pakistan, on the other.

Social norms are the informal laws of the society, which are sustained by social sanctions. Some social norms increase the welfare of the society, whereas others may make a significant part of the population worse-off. In India, norms related to the caste system had huge impact on the life of people, and still influence their decisions. Due to the prevalence of the caste system, the occupation of an individual used to be decided by the caste in which he was born. In modern India, caste based discrimination is illegal, nevertheless caste system has not lost its importance. One can easily find the differences in occupational structure and welfare level of upper and lower caste groups. However, the differences in occupational structure can also be found within the upper castes, suggesting that the differences may not be purely the result of caste based discrimination. The present study is an attempt to examine the direct and indirect impact of different social norms, related to caste system in India, on occupational choice. Two caste groups, Jat and Bania, are compared for this purpose. The study also examines the impact of social norms on the efficiency of different occupations.

The traditional system of education where the teacher is the sole instructor and the students as mute spectators are long foregone. In its stead a new innovative method is evolved. The study wish to see the efficacy of this new system in an underdeveloped poor country like India. This work is a result of assessment surveys that are conducted by the SSA (Sarva Shikhsa Avijaan- Educational For all Program) authority in the Burdwan district of West Bengal,India. Under SSA a new and innovative technique is used. We see the students in India are facing at least three problems in tackling this new method. First, being a first generation learner almost no familial help is sorted out to them. Unfortunately the teachers are not always able to mitigate this gap. Secondly, the children (mostly minority girl child) are burdened with heavy doses of family labor of daily household chores. Thirdly these girl children are strained by strong social taboos (like child marriage) that make their learning uncertain. In spite of these odds, the new system has raised their curiosity to a great extent. It is our duty that the sparkle in their eyes do not die away.

Thesis (M.A.) from the year 2016 in the subject Energy Sciences, grade: Master's Degree, Hohai University (Energy and Electrical Collage), course: Electric Power system, language: English, abstract: In July 2012 there was blackout in India. As the result of this disturbance there were two blackouts. In first blackout only the Northern Grid was affected but in the second blackout Northern, Eastern and North-Eastern grid collapsed. A committee formed by the government analyzed the events that resulted in the collapse of system and pointed out no of factors that lead to disturbance.Whole grid collapsed under load encroachment condition. In this thesis different factors have been analyzed using PSCAD simulation and solutions have been proposed.Approximate model of Indian power system has been developed in PSCAD using approximate parameters given in Grid Failure Report issued by the Indian government. Increase in installed capacity of power system and its impact on system frequency and rotor angle has been studied. A new algorithm has been proposed for distance relay operation in Zone 3 to avoid power system blackout using Indian grid model. One of the main factors that lead to the collapse of whole system was the operation of zone 3 distance relay on 400kV Bina-Gwalior Line. This scheme will improve system stability under heavy load conditions. A simplified model in PSCAD was established in order to study the zone 3 protection of distance relay.

Where did the Aryans come from originally? Did they invade India? Or were they actually Indian invaders who colonized Greece? In India in Greece, E. Pococke explores the theory that the Aryans may have originally travelled from India to Greece, colonized the latter and influenced the culture there. Centuries later, they came back to India. Covering topics as diverse as the sources of the Hellenic Race, the colonization of Egypt and Palestine, the wars of the Grand Lama and the Bud'hist propaganda in Greece, the author tries to show that at some point in history, India and Greece were closely associated.
