Worldwide, nearly 1.1 billion people lack access to potable water. Sea restrains abundant water mass. Desalination processes provide an excellent way to tackle the water scarcity in places close to the sea. It would be feasible to address the water shortage problem with seawater desalination. The use of desalination plants in these regions is becoming a technological way to produce freshwater. Conventional means of providing potable water, especially from fossil fuel, is becoming increasingly expensive and is unaffordable by the poorest countries of the world where water and sanitation is a major challenge. There is a need to find viable alternative sources of energy. The use of solar energy in desalination processes is one of the most promising answers to the water crisis. Solar energy is rich in many of the poorest parts of the world where access to potable water is a challenge; it is reasoned that this is the best and most viable option. The good reason for the implementation of solar powered desalination systems is due to energy storage; concentrating solar power plants can provide round-the-clock firm capacity that is appropriate for large scale desalination.

Within this work electrochemical processes for manufacturing of novel silicon solar cells are investigated. Direct plating of Ni and Al on n- and p- silicon is demonstrated by making use of solar cell characteristics. Homogenous Ni/Cu stacks are realized for bifacial and back contact solar cells, forming an excellent mechanical and electrical contact to silicon. For metallization of HIT solar cells, the plating behavior on ITO layers is studied. Additionally, plating processes on evaporated Al layers are developed and applied to back contact solar cells. By means of process optimization the plated metal stack on Al features sufficient adhesion and increases the lateral conductivity of the metal grid resulting in increased solar cell efficiency. An advanced metallization route for back contact solar cells which purposefully utilizes the different characteristics of the deposited metals (Al, Ni, Cu) is developed. The resulting metal stacks are characterized in detail using SEM, EDX and AES methods. Besides plating processes, local oxidizing processes for Al are established and combined with printing technologies to realize the metal contact separation for back contact solar cells.

This study is investigating the salinity level condition and its impact on land use changes using multi temporal satellite data from 1975-2014 in the three (3) unions of Shyamnagar Upazila under Satkhira District. Remote Sensing and GIS techniques both used to know the salinity effects on land use changes at present context with comparison to previous land use status. Due to saline water intrusion, Shyamnagar Upazila have faced land use conversion related problem throughout the year.

In an attempt to deal with these objectives the study selected Metema Woreda in Ethiopia as a study area from which four kebeles were selected randomly to have 130 household respondents. The major methods of analysis in this study were both descriptive analysis and a logistic model to meet on the aforementioned objectives. The analysis and discussion of the study revealed that water is the prime input for home based productive uses in addition to the usual basic needs of consumption. To this effect, traditional brewery, home gardening, water selling, small ruminants and rural restaurants were the major home based productive uses of water in the study area. Residential applications of renewable energy can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while improving the quality of life for households. Thermosiphon solar water heaters are passive systems using solar energy to supply hot water for residential or industrial use. Replacing fuels or electricity for heating, solar water heating systems can substantially reduce a household's energy demand. Despite the economic and environmental benefits, several barriers hinder the broader adoption of solar water heating in Bolivia. These include an investment barrier due to the high upfront costs, lack of awareness and little confidence in the technology. This study investigated whether carbon finance can contribute to overcoming these barriers: Access of the voluntary carbon market by registering a micro-scale project activity verified by the Gold Standard (GS) was investigated. Potential financial benefits were studied from both a project developer and an end-user perspective.

In preparing these charts it has been necessary to ignore State lines, as the distribution of moisture and damp air depends so very largely not only on the contiguity to the ocean, but also on the direction of the prevailing winds and the character of the intervening country over which the wind must pass from the source of water supply. An extensive amount of research on PV-Thermal collectors has been carried out over the past 25 years. The electrical conversion efficiency of solar cell is in the range of 6-15%, depending on type solar-cell at standard temperature and pressure. When a solar radiation incident on the panel it generate electricity and 75-80% of the absorbed radiation is dissipated in the form of heat to the surrounding after photovoltaic conversion. High solar irradiation increases the electrical conversion efficiency but also increases the temperature of panel. A PV/T hybrid system is a combination of photovoltaic and solar thermal system. The solar PV/T system is an integrated system which can produce both electricity and heat simultaneously. In this work, performance evaluation of PV/T hybrid water collector is evaluated and compared with the solar PV system. The hybrid design gives additional advantages, such as a reduction of the thermal stresses and hence a longer life of the PV module, high performance and reliability, low maintenance and a stabilization of the solar cell current-voltage characteristics. The collected thermal energy can be used for low temperature applications.

There is an urgent need of switching over to a perennial source of energy as an alternative to replace all the quickly depleting fossil fuels. There is much interest in non-conventional energy nowadays, so as to tap energy from unassuming but promising quarters like Solar, Wind and Tidal energy. Of those, tapping the heat and infra-red rays from the sun, using air and water as appropriate mediums, separately and together as a whole, is the most easiest and versatile way of energy capture.This book is concerned with the designing of an efficient solar parabolic collector to trap the solar heat in the receiver through the combination of concave mirrors. A small scale parabolic dish was fabricated with locally available material like stainless steel for the boiler, and painting it black to increase the absorption. As a matter of application of the project, a solar desalination system was integrated with the project to test the feasibility of the research. The desalination system worked successfully in conjunction with the experimental setup and a reduction in the TDS level of the feed water was observed at the condensation end. Thus, the project is feasible for cleaning or purifying the water by renewable sources.
