Although goat production occurs throughout the country, goat milk production is limited and is only undertaken in the semi-arid regions in the south western parts of the country. Dairy goat production has been gaining popularity in many countries around the world in the recent years among the small scale farmers. There, however, has not been much attention given to goat milk production in the smallholder areas despite its nutritional, health, and potential for niche export markets. This book therefore ascertains the primary reasons for keeping goats in smallholder areas where goats are milked, determines and analyzes the socio-economic factors influencing goat milk production. The book shows the potential that exist to stimulate goat milk production in the smallholder areas targeting improved disease control through accessibility of veterinary medicines and vaccines.Government and research organizations can deliberately formulate strategies to introduce improved goat milk breeds and promote the development of para-veterinary programs as a way of diversifying income sources and promoting the development and eventual commercialization of goat milk production in Zimbabwe.

It focuses on White button and Oyster mushrooms. The findings are based on a case study from Balambu Village Development Committee of Kathmandu district in Nepal. Both quantitative and qualitative analysis was done. The study indicates that mushroom cultivation is a profitable enterprise with the benefit-cost ratio of greater than one and its cost of production reduces significantly with the increase in the scale of farming. Major production and marketing constraints are: poor quality of inputs, unavailability and variations in the price of inputs, inadequate training on production and marketing methods, lack of financial support, disease/pest problems, lack of market information, and lack of storage facilities and Nepal Bandha(Strike). The study also shows several gaps and inconsistencies in existing goverment policies for promoting organized market.

Recognizing safety issues concerning food-borne diseases, many countries established quality standards for dairy products to protect consumer health. In Ethiopia, the smallholder milk production system accounts for 97% of the country's annual milk production. Most of the milk production and processing therefore take place at rural smallholder household level and marketing in rural areas with inaduquate required dairy infrastructure. Very little is known about production and handling conditions, and quality of products manufactured under such conditions. This book therefore provides information on hygienic practices followed by various dairy value chain actors during production and handling of milk and milk products, and their microbial and chemical properties. The information reported in this book should be of importance for further investigation in identifying species of economic and public health importance and thereby making improvement interventions. The book should therefore be of particular interest and useful to producers of different scale, concerned domestic and international research and development organizations, graduate students and relevant public bodies.

Milk safety and quality assurance has become an area of priority and necessity for consumers, retailers, manufacturers and regulators. Changing global patterns of food production, international trade and public expectations for health protection have created a huge demand for food safety. Globally, the incidence of food borne diseases is increasing and international food trade is getting disrupted by frequent disputes over food safety and quality requirements. The components of milk and its physical and chemical properties provide a favorable milieu for the growth and multiplication of microorganisms, thus causing milk spoilage and transmission of disease in Humans. Hence, it is necessary to study the sources of microbial contamination during collection of raw milk, processing pasteurized milk, knowing the effect of pasteurization and predicting the shelf life and sensory attributes of refrigerated pasteurized milk and the quality of market milk sold in retail outlets. The analysis used in the study should help to shed some light on the concept of hygienic production of milk. This may be especially useful to professionals in the fields food safety and quality management.

The objective of the study is to measure the technical efficiency of small holder farmers in sesame production. The study was conducted using a cross sectional data collected in 2015/2016-production year from a total sample of 110 households. Cobb-Douglas function was employed to estimate technical efficiency of smallholder farmers in sesame production. The finding of the study indicated that there is inefficiency in the production of sesame in the study area. The estimation of the frontier model with inefficiency variables shows that the mean technical efficiency of farmers is 0.69 (69%). This implies that production of sesame can be increased by 31 percent given the existing technological level. This indicates that the farmers did not using production inputs efficiently in such a way that they give their maximum potential. The estimated stochastic production frontier model together with the inefficiency parameters suggests that any attempt to strengthen technical efficiency of smallholder farmers in the study area must give due attention to the improvement of the principal causes for efficiency differentials such as education, age, ...

Problem of inconsistency of Entities laws and regulations for agricultural subsidies on State level was identified as the main cause of inefficiencies in subsidies and their low economic effects. Political situation in country has brought agricultural producers in unequal position depending on their residence. Having three laws makes room for manipulations of budget intended for development of agriculture and is one of key factors why agricultural sector is underdeveloped. Key focus of this paper was on analysis of production of raw cow milk, procedures of applying for agricultural subsidies for milk production, costs of these applications and other problems that milk producers face in such procedures. This paper, using official government's statistics and comparing it with information collected from case studies, measures to what extent current legislation and regulation affect milk producers and what should be done to improve their position, particularly in overcoming problem of discrimination caused by use of different regulation.

The traditional view of the role of milk has been greatly expanded in recent years beyond the horizon of nutritional subsistence of infants: it is now recognized to be more than a source of nutrients for the healthy growth of children and nourishment of adult humans. Alongside its major proteins (casein and whey), milk contains biologically active compounds, which have important physiological and biochemical functions and significant impacts upon human metabolism, nutrition and health. Many of these compounds have been proven to have beneficial effects on human nutrition and health. This comprehensive reference is the first to address such a wide range of topics related to milk production and human health, including: mammary secretion, production, sanitation, quality standards and chemistry, as well as nutrition, milk allergies, lactose intolerance, and the bioactive and therapeutic compounds found in milk. In addition to cow’s milk, the book also covers the milk of non-bovine dairy species which is of economic importance around the world. The Editors have assembled a team of internationally renowned experts to contribute to this exhaustive volume which will be essential reading for dairy scientists, nutritionists, food scientists, allergy specialists and health professionals.

Dairy plant which accepts milk with adulterants/preservatives is unethical dairies. Hence it is necessary to analyze the reason for spoilage of milk in transit and to take remedial measure to improve the quality of raw milk. Many diseases like T.B., milk sickness, undulant fever, dysentery, diarrhea, diphtheria, scarlet fever, cholera, septic sore throat, and gastroenteritis can spread through unclean milk. Therefore, possibility of it, as a source of biological hazards cannot be overlooked. Due to its dietary importance the production of safe, clean and wholesome milk is of utmost importance. Problem of maintaining quality of milk can be tackled by elimination of preservatives, two time milk collection, use of sanitary condition, quick transport, timely cooling and analysis of milk for quality its suitability for processing in dairy.

Dairying is an important component of mixed farming system in India. Operation Flood Programme initiated during 1970 increased the production and availability of milk in the country. Over the years, the demand for dairy products has also increased substantially. However, the quantum and type of products consumed have been seen to vary across different regions due to differences in purchasing power, taste and food habit of people. In this book an attempt is made to explore the consumption of milk and milk products in the North Eastern state of Tripura where the demand for dairy products has been increasing due to rapid socio-economic changes. An enquiry about the expenditure pattern, income and expenditure elasticity, different influencing factors and inequalities existed in the expenditure on milk and milk products in rural and urban areas are the key features of this book. Cheese consumption and the economic importance of cheese production have steadily increased in Europe and North-America over the last decades. This book evaluates means of selecting dairy cattle to improve milk quality for cheese production. The focus of the book is on milk coagulation ability due to its central role in cheese-making. The most important non-genetic factors affecting milk coagulation ability and the options for direct and indirect selection are evaluated. A special emphasis has been placed to unravel factors affecting non-coagulation of milk, which significantly deteriorates milk’s usability in cheese-making. This book should be a useful reference for researchers in animal breeding and dairy technology, for cattle breeders and for those working in dairy industry.

India has a vast reservoir of livestock of considerable genetic diversities. The productivity of the livestock is greatly dependent on their health status and it is indeed a challenging task to provide health care to such a gigantic population of our livestock. In order to increase the milk production from cattle a large scale cross breeding programmes with exotic germplasm has been started which has led to higher milk production along with the emergence of various diseases in our livestock, since the crossbred populations are more susceptible to various diseases in tropical climate of our country. There are various types of diseases which cause huge economic losses in dairy sector. Among them one of the important diseases is repeat breeding. Repeat breeding may occur due to number of cause such as hormonal deficiency, nutrient deficiency, microbial infection etc.

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2013 in the subject Agrarian Studies, grade: 4.0, Atlantic International University (BUSINESS STUDIES AND ECONOMICS), course: Development Studies, language: English, abstract: Improved agricultural systems need management skills such as planning and coordination of activities. Undesirable practices such as unbalanced utilization of resources, poor timing of activities lead to poor performance in the agricultural sector. Dynamic scheduling of activities, proper factor combinations, have limited production processes and production potential. Unpredictability changes within the changing environment as witnessed by hazards, weather, resource failure among other factors necessitates the dynamic scheduling systems to allow high conditions of production performance. Lack of efficient processes in regard to resources and activities that are coherent within the prevailing circumstances has always led to supply shock which ultimately affects other areas such as the industrial sector. Viability of agricultural production requires appropriate management strategies and adopting appropriate practices so as to maintain and increase the profitability of production ventures in a sustainable manner.

The common call for sustainable development from a growing share of consumers and political authorities alike has become a crucial business driver for automotive companies and an essential prerequisite for corporate competitiveness. Therefore, it is only consequent that business mission statements on sustainability can be found in nearly every larger manufacturer's public appearance. However, in order to walk the talk, characteristics of sustainability must be an inherent traitof an organization. For production to adopt normative management decisions, the production strategies are to be aligned with the superior business mission. Hence, sustainability-oriented measures should be expected to exist in any larger automobile manufacturer's strategic-tactical production planning. This is where this paper sets in. In chapter 2, a framework for strategic-tactical production planning is derived from literature and serves as center of reference for the entire work. In this part, the importance of an integrated and sustainabilityorientedproduction management is pointed out. Sustainable automobile production links the two major chapters of this work.In cha...

The rainfed agro ecosystem supports 40 per cent of the human and 65 per cent of the livestock population, provides 44 per cent of food requirement and it has played and continues to play a critical role in Indian agriculture (Singh et al., 2004). In such areas crop production becomes relatively difficult as it mainly depends upon the intensity and frequency of rainfall. Mixed crop livestock farming has been adopted by the farmers in these areas through generations of experience. Dairy production has become an important component of rural development programmes in the rainfed areas of India, and is considered as an instrument for socioeconomic change to improve income and quality of life. Thus an attempt has been made here to analyse, the cost of milk production, resource use efficiency and constraints faced by dairy farmers in vidarbha region of India.

Livestock related interventions are found to be a successful strategy for poverty alleviation all over the world and large percentage of rural population depend on livestock rearing to earn their livelihood. Dairy Farming is a major livestock enterprise in India where small and marginal farmers are engaged to earn their livelihood. The World Bank funded Operation Flood (OF) Programme commonly known as ‘White Revolution’ was instrumental for enhancing the milk production in India. Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF) popularly known as MILMA was established in 1980 for the successful implementation of Operation Flood project in Kerala. In the post Operational Flood period, especially from 2003 onwards the milk production in the state has declined. The emerging adverse grass-root situation in the dairy sector is endangering the livelihood option of the marginal framers. In the context of adverse situations of constraints the farmer based producer organizations (co-operatives, associations) are considered as an option for small farmers to unite and stand together to overcome the hurdles in earning a decent livelihood in livestock rearing.

Resources must be put aside and injected into productive enterprises to create more wealth. Once an entrepreneur has set up his businesses, human resource should be well mobilised and well utilised to get the best out of it. Skilled ,trained and motivated labour is one sure way of making firms develop a competitive advantage. Products of a growing firm should be able to compete on the world market. These firms need support from governments and international community to develop capacity to improve human resource management. Other factors of production have no ability to produce without being managed by labour. Labour has an important role of combining other factors of production in appropriate proportions to have maximum production out of them. To do the important role of organising other factors of production, a lot needs to be done in regard to their training for applicable skills, coaching and development, recruitment, and motivation so that maximum capacity of this labour is achieved to do the work. Focus is needed on performance management of the workers ensuring their safety and security and their motivation. This adds on their value to yield effectively towards the organisa...

Networks of International Trade and Investment. Understanding globalisation through the lens of network analysis

7027 руб.
In recent decades, the international economy has witnessed fundamental changes in the way manufacturing is organised: products are no longer manufactured in their entirety in a single location. Instead, the production process is often split across a number of stages located in countries that are frequently far apart from each other. By spreading out their manufacturing and supply chain activities globally through international investment and intra-firm trade, Multinational enterprises (MNEs) play a focal role in this reorganisation of production. Our ability to understand the global economy, therefore, requires an understanding of the interdependencies between the entities involved in such fragmented production. Traditional methods and statistical approaches are insufficient to address this challenge. Instead, an approach is required that allows us to account for these interdependencies. The most promising approach so far is network analysis. ‘Networks of International Trade and Investment’ makes a case for the use of network analysis alongside existing techniques in order to investigate pressing issues in international business and economics. The authors put forward a range of well-informed studies that examine compelling topics such as the role of emerging economies in global trade and the evolution of world trade patterns. They look at how network analysis, as both an approach and a methodology, can explain international business and economics phenomena, in particular, in ...
