This book compiles three dissertations on experimental projects based on pollution hazards due to electric field on the germination of seeds. The sprout length of gram and pea seeds during the time of germination of some seeds in open-air condition decreases with increase in electric field and voltage. Corresponding graphs show non-linear variations. The cut-off or threshold voltage at which germination stops, is also determined by extrapolation and the corresponding electric field is computed. Thus electric field has negative effect on the germination of seeds. This may have an impact in agriculture sector, specifically, in the process of preservation of seeds in cold storages.

The research answered questions such as "does human capital contribute to economic growth of Ethiopia?" with major objective to analyze the short run and long run effect of human capital on economic growth of Ethiopia over 1971 to 2013 using both ordinary least square (OLS) econometric and descriptive methods of data analysis. The data used for the research is secondary time series data collected by the National Bank of Ethiopia over the years 1971 to 2013. Nominal GDP is used as dependent and proxy variable for Economic growth while independent variables are physical capital, active labor force, terms of trade for measure of openness, government expenditure and human capital in the form of expenditure on health and education. Accordingly, the empirical finding shows that human capital in the form of education and health investment has consistent and significant long run effect on economic growth of Ethiopia at 5% level of significance. Keeping the other variables constant, 1% change (increase/decrease) in expenditure in human capital will change (increase/decrease) nominal output by 0.23%. Masterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich Medizin - Gynäkologie, Andrologie, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Reports of receptors for 1,25 (OH)2 D3 in most of the tissues of the body suggest that vitamin D may have a more fundamental and generalized role rather than merely in calcium homeostasis. Many clinical studies, including a few by the author, have indicated a beneficial effect of vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy on the fetal and neonatal growth. This experimental study was conducted to elucidate the effects of vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy on the skeletal and soft tissue growth in the rat pups. Results of this study have demonstrated that in the rat on normal intake of vitamin D, calcium and phosphorus, administration of a limited supplement of vitamin D during pregnancy produced a beneficial effect on the fetal and neonatal growth. The increase in growth involved both skeletal and soft tissues. The accelerated growth was partly due to an improvement in lactational performance of the mother. In addition, certain evidences suggest an anabolic action of vitamin D on the offspring which begins during gestation and extends into neonatal period.

Shorttitle:A pot culture experiment was conducted in the glasshouse at Holetta Agricultural Research Centre, Ethiopia. The aim of the trail was to study the impact of Cr on seed germination and growth of Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Millittia ferruginea, and Ricinus communis and to see storage of metal use of phytoremediation. Cr2 (SO4)3.6H2O and (K2Cr2O7) at four concentration levels (0, 10,100, 1000 ppm) were used as treatment. The growing media was prepared by mixing 3 forest soil, 3 local soil, 1 manure, and 1 sand . Before sowing, the media were filled into polythene bags and pots were laidout in completely randomized design with three replications, germination was not significantly different for the two Cr species however it was differing significantly for different concentration of Cr and tree species. However, height and root collar diameter were significantly differed for the treatments at (P≤0.05). For Cr extraction plant parts were separately collected, oven dried, milled, and digested read using AAS. The shoots and roots of Ricinus communis showed a good Cr storage capacity followed by Millittia ferruginea and Eucalyptus camaldulensis.

Furthermore, we have also checked the effect of different intracellular enzymes on MW treated bacteria. Our study also gives information that MW athermal effects causes changes at genetic level and can be passed on to next generation.There are numerous and increasing applications of MW energy and technology in the industries, in homes, in medical, research institutions etc., and there is greater awareness and concern of the public over the suspected potential health hazards associated with such exposures [ICNIRP Guidelines, 1998]. The current study was undertaken to investigate time-dependent toxic effect of sub-lethal dose of orally administered Aluminium Chloride in male rabbits (oryctolagus cuniculus) on the histology of renal tisues. Animals were divided into control and treated groups. Animals of treated group received Aluminium Chloride at the dose rate of 25 mg/kg disolved in 0.9% saline solution after every 48 hours, for 15 and 30 days respectively while animals of control group were given 0.9% saline solution only. Animals were dissected with the interval of 15 days. Renal tissues were processed and stained by Hematoxylin and Eosin for Histological studies. Histological changes induced in the renal tissues of treated animals were observed. The basic purpose of this research was to administer the toxicity of Aluminium Cholride in Kidney of rabbits.

Propagation methods developed through the present investigation includes germination of seeds in different sowing media by using fresh untreated seeds, pretreated seeds, stored seeds, artificial regeneration using root trainers and vegetative propagation using IBA in juvenile stem cuttings. Growth performance of seedlings and rooted cuttings using different potting media in the plant nursery up to three months were performed. Methods in plantation trials were standardized for the selected tree species namely Bombax ceiba, Cassia fistula, Mimusops elangi, Pongamia pinnata, Pterocarpus marsupium, Saraca asoca, and Terminalia arjuna. Coir pith, an indigenous material obtained from coconut husk which is widely and cheaply available in the state of Kerala, and other parts of the Peninsular India has been established as a remarkably good sowing media for germination, a substitute for vermiculite or peat for rooting of cuttings and also was found good as growth media for seedlings and rooted cuttings. In all the seven-study species germination data, rooting data, rooting of cutting data and growth data were analysed using statistical methods.

In this study we estimate the total factor productivity growth of Pakistan's commercial banking sector for the period 1992 - 2000 by bringing together the supply and demand sides of banking services. We employ the translog cost function that includes inputs like labour, capital, operating cost and deposits. The two outputs of the banking sector considered for analysis are loans, advances and investment, and contra accounts. The study provides estimates for the total factor productivity which has shown an upward trend for the period under consideration. The results obtained suggest that the total factor productivity of Pakistan's commercial banks has been increasing since the start of the various banking sector reforms in the 1990s, but growth has followed a fluctuating pattern. It also determines growth for each year and sheds light on the performance of the banking sector in different periods in the light of different phases of reforms. The decomposition of TFP shows that the scale effect is the most critical factor in total factor productivity growth followed by output effect and technical change effect.

The emergence, establishment and growth of tree seedlings face very heterogeneous situations in tropical dry forests (TDFs). The pronounced seasonality in soil moisture availability affects the patterns of seed production, germination, survival and seedling development in plants. Light conditions vary seasonally in understorey of these forests, thereby affecting the growth of species components growing there. The patchy distribution and pulsation of nutrient release in the nutrient poor soils of these forests further restricts the growth of plants spatially and temporally. The plants in TDFs, therefore, exhibit a variation in life- history characteristics, which in combination modulate the response of species to these environmental drivers. Furthermore, interactions among these environmental drivers are a regular feature of natural ecosystems, and have a great significance in shaping of the community structure and dynamics. The book explores the response of TDF tree seedlings to the combined effect of resources i.e. light, water and nutrient. The findings will augment understanding of the researchers in plant ecology especially working in tropical dry forests.

In recent years environmental researchers have drawn attention to reports on measured contents of drugs in surface water, ground water and drinking water all over the world. Several antibiotics enter aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems through the discharge of effluents from farms. Hydroides elegans is a sedentary fouling tubiculous polychaete available in plenty on the hulls of the ships, fishing boats and floating material on the sea water. Its Fertilization triggers a complex sequence of structural and metabolic transformations in the eggs which results in the initiation of cell division and activation of embryogenesis. Antibiotic were used to assess the effects on various developmental stages of H. elegans in relation to concentration and exposure time. The result of the present study on the effect of flucloxacillin on fertilization and early embryonic stages of H. elegans are presented in four different parameters such as cumulative time, individual stage time, percentage of successful development and EC50 values. The present work confirms that the bioassay using the gametes and embryos of H. elegans can ideally be used to assess the relative toxicity of various drugs.

This book provides an empirical test of the effects of fiscal decentralization and horizontal fiscal equalization on economic growth and examines the potential trade-off between horizontal fiscal equalization and economic growth in both China and India. A comparative study of these two neighbours in Asia has shown that the degree of fiscal decentralization in both countries is far from the point where its effect on economic growth becomes positive. Despite the dangers of widening disparities in terms of interregional fiscal resource distribution from further decentralization, no substantial evidence shows a trade-off between horizontal fiscal equalization and growth in either country. In addition, both the 1994 Tax Sharing System (TSS) reform in China and the 1991 economic reforms in India have contributed to economic growth. An in-depth and more thorough going fiscal decentralization with greater emphasis on equalization of fiscal disparities are required in order to assure sustainable economic growth as well as social harmony in these two Asian countries.

This study contributes to previous studies by using Maximum likelihood estimation of dynamic panel that was not used in previous studies concerning the aforementioned relationship; by controlling for number of factors thought to influence economic growth; by referring to a much larger number of countries and by exploring the relationship between life insurance and economic growth while controlling for the degree of financial sector development, as well as for the regional and income disparities. Sixteen models that explore the impact of control variables integrated singly in the equations and an integrated model that controls for the impact of all key variables are estimated. Empirical results reveal a significant positive relationship between life insurance and economic growth in models -. Education is reported to have a positive impact on economic growth. Government spending is found to have a negative impact on economic growth, while model reports that inflation has a negative impact on economic growth. Harrod and Domar attempted to answer these questions through applying Keynes economics for economic analysis. They found that savings and investments stable rates are the key for rapid long term growth especially in developing countries. Therefore, government intervention was needed to help stimulate savings and investments. Years later, Solow and Swan attempted to answer same questions through their neoclassical growth model. In this model, it was assumed that a maintained rising saving rates leads to transition from slow growth into fast growth path. This meant a focus on technological progress. However, part of the growth was not explained by growth in production factors which are capital and labor. Solow stated that this unexplained factor was the residual or total factor productivity. Therefore, government policies were assumed to be effective on aggregate output not on growth rates.

The present investigation was carried out at experimental orchard, Division of Fruit Science, SKUAST-K, Shalimar. The experiment consisted of three treatments on three cultivars of apple (Lal Ambri, Firdous and Sunhari) replicated thrice in RBD. The results revealed that foliar application of nutrients had a significant effect on growth parameters, foliar nutrient contents, physical & chemical characters, yield and quality of apple cultivars. The combined application of Ca, Mg and micro-nutrients resulted in better annual shoot growth, leaf fruit ratio, leaf area and number of leaves per shoot when compared with control and other treatments, without affecting uptake of N, P and K. Further, the leaf Ca, Mg, Zn, Mn and B uptake improved with the combined application of Ca, Mg & micro-nutrients when compared with control and other treatments.The studies revealed that the foliar application of nutrients improved the overall performance of apple cultivars with respect to qualitative and quantitative characters. Hence the combined foliar application of macronutrients and micro-nutrients along with soil application of N,P and K is recommended for the better performance of apple cultivars.

In this research, we use CPI to measure inflation rate and GDP growth rate to measure economic growth rate. All the data are collected from the National Bureau of Statistics of China. We use three methods to analyse data, including the Correlation Coefficient test, the Granger Causality test as well as the VAR model analysis. A study was undertaken to assess the evaluation of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) against Meloidogyne incognita infestation on tuberose in vitro, pot culture and field conditions. Tuberose fields were surveyed for the nematode incidence in different districts of Tamil Nadu. Among the nematodes associated with the crop M. incognita caused severe damage to crop. Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria were isolated from soil samples collected from field and subcultured for further studies. The isolates were tested for their efficacy for plant growth promotion by roll towel and pot culture studies with rice plants. Among them, three isolates, viz. BT3, BT8 and BT21 were found to be effective in increasing the plant growth promotion when compared to other isolates. Biochemical characterization of the isolates revealed that the cultures were found to be the group of Bacillus spp. Liquid formulation were prepared for the three isolates with nutrient amendments, viz. glycerol (10 Mm), trehalose (5 mM) and the stickers, viz. starch (2%) and PVP (2%) and the antagonistic effect of different Bacillus isolates were studied against M. incognita in vitro. Arcade Ndoricimpa Inflation, output growth and their uncertainties in South Africa: Empirical evidence from an asymmetric multivariate GARCH-M model

The study examines the relationships between inflation uncertainty and output growth uncertainty, and analyzes their effects on the level of inflation and output growth in South Africa. An asymmetric multivariate GARCH-M model suggested by Grier et al. (2004) is applied. The findings suggest that while uncertainty about growth is detrimental to output growth inflation uncertainty is not. The findings further reveal that Cukierman and Meltzer (1986) hypothesis of a positive impact of inflation uncertainty on the level of inflation is supported and there exists a negative impact of output growth uncertainty on inflation. No association could be found between inflation uncertainty and output growth uncertainty. The findings imply that output growth and its uncertainty should not be treated separately as it is usually suggested by business cycle models. In addition, both output growth uncertainty and inflation uncertainty should be considered as part of the determinants of output growth in South Africa.

Taro (Colocasia esculenta L.) is one of the major staple root crops in different countries of the world.However, the yield potential is seldom realized, and among the yield limiting factors, soil fertility is one of the major factor affecting the yield of the crop. Thus, this book gives research result on 'Response Taro to Applied N and K Fertilizer Levels. Two types of fertilizers at different levels, i.e. K (0, 75, 150 and 225 kg ha-1) and N (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha-1), were combined in factorial for the experimental study. The response of taro to N and K levels was assessed by examining growth and yield parameters. The result revealed that K had no significant effect on the growth and yield of taro, except for the corm dry weight. But N had significantly affected both the growth and yield of taro. The maximum yield (60.96 t ha-1) was obtained by application of 150 kg N ha-1. Economic analysis showed that the highest net benefit was obtained in treatment combination of 75 kg K ha-1 with 150 kg N ha-1. However, the marginal rate of return analysis was optimum when 100 kg N ha-1 was applied. Thus, 100 kg N ha-1 was found optimum for taro production based on this experiment.
