STUDIES ON ENHANCING SEED PRODUCTIVITY OF MALE PARENT SB(YF) 425 OF DCH-32 COTTON HYBRID.The major factors attributed for the difference in the yield of seed cotton are the yield attributes viz., number of flowers produced per plant, number of bolls per plant, boll setting percentage and boll weight. It is well known that adverse climatic conditions bring on imbalance in the growth and development of plant leading to the shedding of reproductive parts, there by reducing the yield considerably in cotton. The micro nutrients are capable of redistributing dry matter in the plant thereby bringing about an improvement in the yield. In cotton, the seed cotton yield depends on the accumulation of photo assimilates and partitioning in different parts of the plant. The yield is strongly influenced by the application of micro nutrients indicating the role of these micro nutrients in increasing the yield through their effect on various morpho-physioligical traits. Foliar application of micro nutrients is known to increase the yield of cotton crop.

Buffalo contributes 38.0 % milk in Asia. A total of 5033 records were utilized to investigate breeding efficiency (BE) and its various contributors. Effect of herd, period, season of calving, birth weight (BW), age at puberty (AAP), lactation yield (LY) and calving interval (CI) were analyzed. The effect of year and season of calving, lactation yield, calving interval, age at first calving and birth weight was found significant (P<0.001), while that of herd was non significant. BE correlated positively with BW and LY and negatively with AAP, AFC and CI. It was concluded that birth weight was the most significant contributor. In the succeeding study herd, sire nested into herd and parity had a significant effect on lactation yield, while the effects of year, season of calving, year x season and age at puberty x season was found non significant. It was suggested that the milk production ability of dairy buffaloes was improved by increasing birth weight and an increasing maturity. The last study suggested that heritability estimates of first lactation economic traits provided a better tool for selective breeding.

A study was conducted at eastern zone of Tigray, Ethiopia during 2012 rainy season to evaluate the effect of phosphorous and potassium fertilizer rates on the yield and yield components of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.). In this experiment a combination of four levels of phosphorous and four levels of potassium were used. The design used was a factorial experiment arranged in Randomized Complete Block with three replications in two locations. The recommended N 110 Kg/ha rate for potato was applied as urea to all treatments equally. The study revealed that effect of location and PK fertilizer rates had helped to significantly increase the growth parameters, yield components, marketable yield, total tuber yield and nutrient use efficiency of potato. Moreover, days to flowering and physiological maturity, number of stems per hill, unmarketable yield and fertilizer use efficiency were significantly affected by the interaction of PK fertilizer and location. The optimum total tuber yield was obtained due the effect of PK fertilizer. The highest total and marketable tuber yield increase by 36.9 and 45 %, respectively compared to the control was obtained due to PK application.

The high population pressure in central Kenya has lead to continuous cultivation with minimal application of nutrient, resulting in nutrient depletion. A study was conducted to determine the effect of 'Push-pull' (intercropping maize with Desmodium and Napier grass) strategy management and nitrogen application on maize grain yield and soil fertility on smallholder farmer's fields in three districts of central Kenya highlands. The experiment design was a split plot design with two factors ('Push-pull' vs monoculture and manure (5 t/ha) only vs manure and fertilizer (40 kg/ha) replicated four times.I found an increase in maize yield in 'Push-pull' fields compared with monocultures with only manure added (5t/ha) and the yield increased even more with modest application of fertilizer (40KgN/ha) combined with manure (5t/ha).There was strong significant difference (p<0.001) on maize grain yield between 'Push-pull' (5.52t/ha) and monoculture (1.93t/ha) cropping systems in the three districts of central Kenya.From management perspective, the different fertilization regimes had strongest positive effect on maize yield in well managed 'Push-pull' cropping systems.

Taro (Colocasia esculenta L.) is one of the major staple root crops in different countries of the world.However, the yield potential is seldom realized, and among the yield limiting factors, soil fertility is one of the major factor affecting the yield of the crop. Thus, this book gives research result on 'Response Taro to Applied N and K Fertilizer Levels. Two types of fertilizers at different levels, i.e. K (0, 75, 150 and 225 kg ha-1) and N (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha-1), were combined in factorial for the experimental study. The response of taro to N and K levels was assessed by examining growth and yield parameters. The result revealed that K had no significant effect on the growth and yield of taro, except for the corm dry weight. But N had significantly affected both the growth and yield of taro. The maximum yield (60.96 t ha-1) was obtained by application of 150 kg N ha-1. Economic analysis showed that the highest net benefit was obtained in treatment combination of 75 kg K ha-1 with 150 kg N ha-1. However, the marginal rate of return analysis was optimum when 100 kg N ha-1 was applied. Thus, 100 kg N ha-1 was found optimum for taro production based on this experiment.

Application of compost 5 t ha-1 + 2 t ha-1 lignite significantly increased the average fruit weight, fruit yield per plant, fruit yield, nutrient contents in fruit and plant, fertilizer use efficiency, net return, B: C ratio. Daily method of fertigation significantly increased the chlorophyll content at fruit set stage, average fruit weight, fruit yield per plant, fruit yield, POC, SOC, POC : SOC ratio in soil, available nutrients in soil, nutrients content in fruit, fertilizer use efficiency, net return and B : C ratio over conventional method of fertilizer application. Combination effect of methods of fertilizer application and doses of NPK fertilizers resulted in significantly higher average fruit weight, fruit yield per plant, fruit yield, available N and P in soil and N content in plant. Combined effect of organic manures and doses of NPK fertilizers significantly enhanced fruit yield of tomato. Combined effect of organic manures and methods of fertilizer application significantly increased fruit yield of tomato and available nitrogen in soil.

Abstract A field study was carried out during a three-year period (2008 to 2010) in order to investigate on response of Coker 347 (flue-cured) Tobacco plant (Nicotiana tabacum L.) in vegetative growth stages to inoculation with Azotobacter chroococcum at various levels of Nitrogen (N) fertilization.Results revealed that the effect of year of experiment was significant on quantitative characteristics (except leaf length), N uptake and qualitative characteristics (except nicotine in priming). Application of N had significant effect on quantitative characteristics (except number and width of Leaf), N uptake and qualitative characteristics. Inoculation of roots with bacterium had significant effect on Cured leaf weight of cutter, yield, N uptake and qualitative characteristics. Furthermore In general, Azotobacter chroococcum is a suitable inoculant for tobacco cultivation and it could be a strategy to achieve sustainable agriculture.

Following its importance in the export market, the production of sesame in Ethiopia is booming in the last decades. Humera is the major sesame producing area in Ethiopia. This area is also known for its production of premium quality sesame‘white sesame'.However,productivity (kg/ha)of the crop remains very low. There is a wide gap between the yield obtained at research station (2200 kg/ha) and under farmers traditional management practices (450 kg/ha). Among others,water-logging and higher seed rate are the most important factors that limits sesame yield. Therefore, this research was conducted to estimate the effect of planting methods and spacing on the yield and yield components of sesame. The result indicated that sesame yield was increased by 150% when planted on ridge,compare to flat planting. Moreover,ridge planting associated with 20 cm between plants and 40 cm between rows has increased yield ha-1 of the crop. This would give an important insight to increase sesame yield in the study area in particular and in similar area of the world in general.

In the present study an attempt has been made to analyses Demographic and Health Survey data of four selected countries of South Asia namely India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan at two different survey points. Broadly it is observed that four factors have significant relation with the three indicators of mortality (i.e. on first day, first week and first month). Institutional delivery has a positive effect. Female sex has a negative effect. Longer birth interval (2+) has a negative effect. Working mothers have high mortality of children. Antenatal care (3+) and Tetanus toxide injections (2+) which are essential component of maternal health care do not show any significant relationship with mortality except in India.

Well balanced, nutritious feed coupled with adequacy are the major limiting factors in realizing increased livestock production. Cultivation of sorghum over other fodder crops is widely practiced because of its high tolerance and suitability to wide variations in soil and climatic conditions.A more balanced nutritive feed can be obtained by mixing sorghum and cowpea. The work reported that the higher level of total green and dry fodder yield and crude protein yield and favorable quality parameters viz., crude protein content, ADF, NDF, EE, IVDMD, TDDM, plant silica, calcium and mineral matter content and antinutritional factors viz., HCN and nitrate content were noticed with the variety Harasona as a base crop and ratoon crops.In the case of cowpea intercropping observed enhanced total crude protein yield. In general, application of 60 kg N ha-1 after each cut produced significantly increased the yields. Yield enhancement could be obtained indirectly by improving yield components which are controlled by a number of genes with small additive effect which are called as Quantitative Trait Loci (QTLs). A field experiment was conducted at College of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem to study the effect of plant density and phosphorus levels on the growth and yield of vegetable cowpea under rainfed conditions. The study revealed that the crop responded to plant densities as well as phosphorus levels. The biometric characters like number of primary branches per plant (8.52), pod length (21.31 cm), pod girth (12.35 mm), number of pods per plant (37.02), number of seeds per pod (16.85), pod weight per plant (10.93 g) and pod yield per plant (301.85 g) were higher at lower density plants (37,037 plants/ha) along with 60 kg P2O5/ha. The growth and yield characters like plant height (52.47 cm), TDM accumulation (3968.04 kg/ha), days to flowering (34.73 days), days to first picking (44.28 days) and pod yield (152.87 q//ha) were showed better expression in case of high density planting (74,074 plants/ha) along with 60 kg P2O5/ha. The interaction effect of plant densities and phosphorus levels were significant on plant height, total dry matter accumulation and days to flowering, pod length, pod weight per plant, yield per plant and pod yield/ha.

Many researchers in this review investigate that the responses are highly dependent on the type of fat and protein supplement and the stage of lactation. A higher milk response was observed with saturated than with unsaturated fat supplements. Diet with added fat increase milk production compared with a control diet without added fat in cows. Feeding of bypass fat resulted in significant increase in milk yield and Fat Corrected Milk yield particularly in early lactation. The source of Protected fat are (origin (animal, plant, processed or whole oilseeds, calcium salts) and Cereal Grains such as corn, wheat, Barly, oil seeds, sun flower, cotton seed, soybeans and canola). The present investigation entitled, “Effect of plant growth regulators and bio-stimulants on productivity and quality of Chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) cv. K1”. Application of plant growth regulators and bio stimulants significantly increased the growth, yield and quality attributes of chilli. The maximum plant height, highest number of leaves per plant, plant spread, leaf area, leaf area index, early flowering and 50% flowering was observed with the foliar spray of humic acid 0.2 per cent. The same treatment recorded the maximum for all the yield parameters viz., fruits per plant, fruit length, fruit girth and fruit weight, fresh fruit yield, dry fruit yield per plant and Dry Matter Production per plant. Panchagavya 3% increased the ascorbic acid content, TSS and oleoresin in chilli. Application of humic acid at 0.2 per cent recorded increased the capsaicin and capsanthin content and the highest net returns of Rs.43,329.00 with the benefit cost ratio of 1.94 which is economically feasible. Our results support the foliar application of humic acid 0.2 per cent improve the growth and yield attributing parameters in chilli, which will ultimately result in increased productivity.

Experiment was carried out at Argyauli, 2, Nawalparasi in farmer’s field during May to November 2011 with the objective of finding appropriate rice cultivar and transplanting date for optimum yield in changed climatic situation of western Terai Dalle produced the best mean yield 4.96 ton per hector and 17th July proved to be the best transplanting date with mean yield 3.58 ton per hector. Cultivar Dalle proved the best drought resistant yielding best in all transplanting dates over tested cultivars. Rain fall amount at active tillering and early reproductive stage found most closely correlated with yield rather than total rainfall over the crop period.

The book assesses the occurrence and the amplitude of the hazard phenomena in the Bucharest Metropolitan Area based on annual, monthly and daily extreme climatic values from all the meteorological stations of concern (1961...2007). Combining and adapting the already existing complex classifications and ierarhizations to the particularities and scale of the study-area, a regionalization of the main climatic hazards was achieved. Wireless communication is one of the most dynamic and vibrant areas of technology development in the communication field today.It has been found that severe climatic conditions disturb the propagation of electromagnetic signals at higher frequencies (greater than 30 MHz). The disturbance is mainly due to molecular absorption by oxygen for frequencies ranging between 60 and 118 GHz and due to water vapour in 22, 183 and 325 GHz bands. Rain and fog has the most significant impact, since the size of the rain drops is of the order of the wavelength of the transmitted signal. This results in energy absorption by the rain drops themselves, and as a secondary effect energy is scattered by the drops. The frequency selective absorption characteristics of the atmosphere can be approximated by a transfer function. In most of the practical channels when the signal propagates through the atmosphere the effect of many factors on the signal has to be considered along with the free space propagation channel assumption.The main objective of this study is, therefore, to find out whether, and how, the different climatic conditions are influencing radio wave propagation in GSM frequency bands in general and in Narnaul, Haryana (India) in particular. In order to evolve low cost, resource efficient production technology for durum wheat, a field experiment entitled “Effect of sowing methods, input and varieties levels on growth, yield components, yield and nutrient uptake of durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) was conducted on clay loam at the Instructional Farm, Department of Agronomy, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur during the year 2002-03 and 2003-04. The results showed that durum variety HI 8498 accumulated maximum quantum of biomass m-2 and nutrients uptake (N, P and K). These manifested in production of higher effective tillers m-2 and improvement in yield attributes (test weight, grain weight ear-1 and grain yield ear-1) with concomitant increase in crop productivity in terms of grain and biological yield by 7.50 and 5.20 per cent over Raj 1555. Among sowing methods, cross sowing significantly enhanced overall growth of the crop in terms of biomass accumulation, RGR and CGR, effective tillers and uptake of nutrients.

The current study was undertaken to investigate time-dependent toxic effect of sub-lethal dose of orally administered Aluminium Chloride in male rabbits (oryctolagus cuniculus) on the histology of renal tisues. Animals were divided into control and treated groups. Animals of treated group received Aluminium Chloride at the dose rate of 25 mg/kg disolved in 0.9% saline solution after every 48 hours, for 15 and 30 days respectively while animals of control group were given 0.9% saline solution only. Animals were dissected with the interval of 15 days. Renal tissues were processed and stained by Hematoxylin and Eosin for Histological studies. Histological changes induced in the renal tissues of treated animals were observed. The basic purpose of this research was to administer the toxicity of Aluminium Cholride in Kidney of rabbits.

Animals of treated group received Aluminium Chloride at the dose rate of 25 mg/kg disolved in 0.9% saline solution after every 48 hours, for 15 and 30 days respectively while animals of control group were given 0.9% saline solution only. Animals were dissected with the interval of 15 days. Renal tissues were processed and stained by Hematoxylin and Eosin for Histological studies. Histological changes induced in the renal tissues of treated animals were observed. The basic purpose of this research was to administer the toxicity of Aluminium Cholride in Kidney of rabbits.

Performance of Hampshire Pigs Under Agro-Climatic Condition of Assam During the year 1978-79, pure bred Hampshire Pigs were imported to the North Eastern Region of India for up gradation of local pigs. A study was conducted to evaluate the performance of Pure bred Hampshire pigs especially on some important of reproductive and litter traits under the tropical climatic condition of Assam. The results of the investigation revealed that the performance of Hampshire breed of pigs under the agro-climatic condition of Assam was reasonably satisfactory. However, there seems to have room for further improvement in performance by reducing preweaning mortality and increasing growth rate by way of better health cover and management.

The present study was undertaken; to evaluate the response of recurrent selection derived lines by the testing of (C3) derived lines for genetic variability, genetic advance and heritability and to assess the effect of selection on other quantitative traits. The 16 half-sib families were selected from 3rd cycle of recurrent selection were grown for evaluation in randomized block design in rabi 2009 -10 along with check varieties Bhima and A1. The expected genetic advance expressed as per cent of population mean at 10 per cent was high for seed yield per plot (48.44) followed by seed yield per plant (28.88). The expected genetic advance per cent over Bhima at 10 per cent selection intensity was high for seed yield per plot (28.27) followed by seed yield per plant (22.78). In safflower seed yield per plant was positively and significantly correlated with days to maturity, number of capitula per plant, number of seeds per capitulum and 100 seed weight. Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Biology - Botany, grade: A, , language: English, abstract: Twenty maize genotypes were tested in alpha-lattice design with two replications in research block of National Maize Research Program, Rampur, Chitwan from February to June, 2016 to evaluate maize inbred lines for their genetic components association among yield components and correlation and stress tolerance indices. Shorter ASI was found in RML-17, RML-57, RL-107, RL-140, RML-91 whereas more leaf area index in NML-2, RML-91, and RML-24 respectively. Inbred lines, RML-91, RML-17, RML-20, RL-140, RL-140, RML-91 and NML-2 were found lower tassel blast and leaf firing percentage respectively. Inbred lines, RML-76,RML-115,RML-4,RL-111 showed slower leaf senescence and RML-57, RL-101, RML-11, RL-107 showed significant higher value of SPAD chlorophyll content. Heritability and correlation analysis revealed that grain yield, number of kernel ear-1, silk receptivity, shelling percentage, thousand kernel weight plant and ear heights showed presence of additive gene effect and those traits direct could be used as direct selection to improve maize grain yield under heat stress condition. With attention to high negative correlation with anthesis silking interval, tassel blast, leaf firing with grain yield the minimum of anthesis silking interval, tassel blast and leaf firing were the most important index required further genotyping for development of thermo-tolerance lines. The analysis of birth intervals explicitly recognizes the distinct renewable nature of the fertility process. It considers the progression from one birth to the next during a woman's reproductive life. Birth spacing among women is affected by several factors and as a result for some women a birth interval is too short; for some women the interval is too long; and for other women it is just right. Hence birth intervals play a major role on childbearing and receive attention in the study of human fertility. Wider birth interval has several benefits. Longer gap between births allows a mother more time to recover from pregnancy and delivery; the next pregnancy and birth are more likely to be at full conception and growth; there is less competition between existing children for breastfeeding, food, nutrition, the mother's time, and other resources. Therefore, Birth Interval analysis undoubtedly provides useful information on reproduction and family formation.
