Master's Thesis from the year 2007 in the subject Hotel Industry / Catering, grade: "-", London Metropolitan University (Birkbeck College), course: MSc in Organisational Bahaviour, 85 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: A thorough analysis of training needs is an important component of any systematic trainingstrategy. International hotel companies face substantial challenges in terms of humanresources development. This situation may lead the assumption that they would thereforeapply particular care in the planning, design, implementation and evaluation of their trainingactivities. This study's objectives were to explore whether large hotel companies sufficientlyconsider organizational, task and person aspects when analyzing their senior management'straining needs, and on the other hand, to investigate how systematically they apply thetraining cycle. The 15 largest international hotel organizations were selected to participate inthis qualitative study in which relevant questions were asked to one senior Human ResourcesExecutive of each company via a semi-structured telephone interview. Answers from elevenorganizations were obtained. The responses suggest that structured and exhaustive approachesto training needs analysis are the exception rather than the norm. All companies do in someway assess existing training needs. However except for one company, none comprehensivelyconsiders all three areas of training needs. The general focus see...

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Services in the field of information technology (IT) are an emerging and expanding market. The quality with which they are delivered to the customer and the effectiveness of their provision determine the economic success of an enterprise to a large extent. Therefore, the dissertation centers around service quality and organizational effectiveness. Introducing, the characteristics of services in general - intangibility, inseparability, heterogeneity, and perishability - and the rote of projects in IT services are explained. Then, organizational effectiveness is defined as internal efficiency plus adaptability to external demands. Two models are compared showing that organizational effectiveness consists of several factors - e.g. motivation, management leadership, or structure - which indeed can be measured via a particular diagnosis questionnaire. Analogously, two service quality models are put forth. They reveal that total quality is comprised of the technical quality of the service outcome (objective quality) and the functional quality of the process (subjective quality). Likewise, service quality can be evaluated by regarding ten determinants and graphically displaying them in an importance-performance grid. Relating to both points above, aspects in marketing (internal, interactive) and operations (service as a basic function and as one objective) are considered. The so-gained theoretical insights are practically applied in an investigation of an IT ...

It is now a widely held view that for training programmes to succeed in enhancing performance of, it is important that course contents address the actual needs of school managers. This is only possible when trainee views are taken into account when selecting training topics. The book reports the results of an empirical investigation into school managers rating of the importance of selected in-service school management training topics. The results show that school managers regard all the training topics as important. However, the results indicate that although school managers perform similar roles, their ratings of the importance of topics differ significantly based on a number of background factors including level of education, experience, type of school, and management level. These are indications that when selecting topics for in-service school management training these factors need to be considered. The book will appeal to academics and students of the broad field of Human Resource management and more specifically, those interested in training and development.

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Personnel and Organisation, grade: B, Atlantic International University (School of Business and Economics), course: Ph.D. Economics, language: English, abstract: The quality of Human Resource is an asset to any organization and as a result Training has become an issue that has to be faced by every organization. The amount, and quality of training carried out varies enormously from organization to organization due to factors such as the degree of external change, for instance, new markets or new processes, the adaptability of existing workforce and importantly the extent to which the organization supports the idea of internal career development. Most organizations meet their needs for training in an ad hoc and haphazard way whiles others set about identifying their training needs, then design training activities in a rational manner and finally assess the results of training. This study, therefore, sought to determine the impact of Training and Development on public sector organizations using Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA) as a case study. The research was intended to determine the role and impact of training on employees with emphasis on the lower, middle level staff and the administrators of GPHA, who were randomly selected. This book includes a study of trustworthiness, percentile response time, service availability, and authentication in the networks between users and cloud service providers, and at service stations or sites that may be owned by different service providers. The first part of the book contains an analysis of percentile response time, which is one of the most important SLA (service level agreements) metrics. Effective and accurate numerical solutions for the calculation of the percentile response time in single-class and multi-class queueing networks are obtained. Then, the numerical solution is incorporated in a resource allocation problem. Specifically, the authors present an approach for the resource optimization that minimizes the total cost of computer resources required while preserving a given percentile of the response time. In the second part, the approach is extended to consider trustworthiness, service availability, and the percentile of response time in Web services. These QoS metrics are clearly defined and their quantitative analysis provided. The authors then take into account these QoS metrics in a trust-based resource allocation problem in which a set of cloud computing resources is used by a service provider to host a typical Web services application for single-class customer services and multipleclass customer services respectively. Finally, in the third part of the book a thorough performance evaluation of two notable public key cryptography-based authentication techniques; Public-Key Cross Realm Authentication in Kerberos (PKCROSS) and Public Key Utilizing Tickets for Application Servers (PKTAPP, a.k.a. KX.509/KCA); is given, in terms of computational and communication times. The authors then demonstrate their performance difference using queuing networks. PKTAPP has been proposed to address the scalability issue of PKCROSS. However, their in-depth analysis of these two techniques shows that PKTAPP does not perform better than PKCROSS in a large-scale system. Thus, they propose a new public key cryptography-based group authentication technique. The performance analysis demonstrates that the new technique can scale better than PKCORSS and PKTAPP.

The increased availability and quality of open source software on the Web is creating more opportunities for developers to reuse software and is changing the way developers write source code. It is important to understand how developers look for source code on the Web so that tools and approaches can be suggested to better support developers' needs. Based on different approaches to understand how humans look for information, we propose a five-stage model to differentiate the stages that could take place when developers look for source code on the Web. We use this model to assess the effectiveness of existing tools.

Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject English - Grammar, Style, Working Technique, , language: English, abstract: The study of public speaking is proposed as a peculiar area of the business communication domain. A diachronic analysis of the inter- and multi-disciplinarian nature of public speaking in business communication is proposed, as a foundation for a new field of theoretical and applied research. Moreover, public speaking is described here as a basic workplace skill in business communication. Entrepreneurs' public speaking is chosen as an interesting case study: empirical data support the thesis of a strict relationship between entrepreneurs' effectiveness in speaking and the social construction of their meanings. Drawing on those considerations, a more focused reflection on the impact of oratorical skills in business communication contexts is explored.

Tag-based approaches were originally designed to increase the throughput of capillary sequencing, where concatemers of short sequences were first used in expression profiling. New Next Generation Sequencing methods largely extended the use of tag-based approaches as the tag lengths perfectly match with the short read length of highly parallel sequencing reactions. Tag-based approaches will maintain their important role in life and biomedical science, because longer read lengths are often not required to obtain meaningful data for many applications. Whereas genome re-sequencing and de novo sequencing will benefit from ever more powerful sequencing methods, analytical applications can be performed by tag-based approaches, where the focus shifts from 'sequencing power' to better means of data analysis and visualization for common users. Today Next Generation Sequence data require powerful bioinformatics expertise that has to be converted into easy-to-use data analysis tools. The book's intention is to give an overview on recently developed tag-based approaches along with means of their data analysis together with introductions to Next-Generation Sequencing Methods, protocols and user guides to be an entry for scientists to tag-based approaches for Next Generation Sequencing.

This work is a combination of marketing analysis and business approaches based on actual market data and experience of Internet based UK company entering foreign markets. How to sustain growth and profitability of the business? What strategy to choose in order to win? How complex is B2B business model? Why service industries are so unique? How to make decision when resources are limited? These questions appear when a positioning strategy should be chosen. The main goal of this research is to propose a positioning strategy for the UK translation agency in highly fragmented Russian translations services market. The analysis is divided into three main parts: integrated approach based on Hooley's six dimensions of differentiation, integrated approach based on Market-Attractiveness - Business Position Matrix, and descriptive analysis of online positioning. The methodology used contains both quantitative and qualitative element due to very limited data availability and in an effort to increase reliability of the results obtained. Also descriptive analysis of online based businesses is provided. Additional data was collected through publications, newspaper articles and experts' opinions.

Many process management books focus on manufacturing applications. A few discuss services applications and occasionally some comment on the information processes outside of the normal information technology (IT) function. When a business seeks to improve the processes it uses in order to provide efficiency and cost savings to a product or service, that business needs to consider its manufacturing, service, and information handling processes together because they are not independent. This book has two goals: First, to help business practitioners integrate their management of manufacturing or service processes with information processes; and second, to provide business schools with a textbook that can be used for a basic process management course to precede or accompany the typical operations management course. Because information handling approaches vary considerably with organizational size, both large and small business approaches are discussed. This discussion is focused on basic concepts rather than specific technical aspects like what type of information hardware to be used. One chapter will discuss the considerations necessary when adding information process management to enterprise resource planning (ERP), statistical process control (SPC), and supply chain logistics approaches from both large and small business perspectives.

Scientific Essay from the year 2012 in the subject Speech Science / Linguistics, grade: Excellent with honor, , course: Critical Discourse Analysis, language: English, abstract: The present paper has shown the practical part of CDA according to three scholars, namely they are Norman Fairclough, Ruth Wodak, and Teun van Dijk. Their approaches are somehow different in method and way of interpretation. While Fairclough is brought up on the systemic-functional model of theory and thus often concentrates on rather limited amounts of research material, Wodak turns to sociolinguistics and ethnography with an emphasis on corpus-based research and on work with different approaches with a variety of empirical data as well as background information. However, the notion that language is inherently social remains a key assumption in both approaches. On the other hand, similarly to Fairclough, van Dijk acknowledges three different perspectives; text, discourse practice and sociocultural practice, and emphasizes on the link between textual analysis and sociocultural analysis. However, van Dijk differentiates himself from both Fairclough and Wodak in his understanding of social events or of social institutions and power relations. To van Dijk, social cognitions mediate between micro- and macro-levels of society, between discourse and action, between the individual and the group. Therefore, the focus on social cognition governs the process of analysis.

Surgical training has recently undergone significant changes, driven by patient safety and the reduced training time imposed by the European Working Time Directive. There is an educational gap to the current training framework in the UK and raises the question are we training our surgeons effectively and appropriately for the role they are to perform? This book explores the diverse accounts of surgeons in training through their lived experiences of operative training and maps them to the expectations set out by the Royal Colleges of Surgery in the UK. Different approaches to training and relative success of such strategies as perceived by trainees are discussed. Great concordance in experiences exists with cognitive and social constructive theories of learning. The analysis underlines the importance of learner responsibility and the trainer to effective operative training and that learning achieved through social engagement within a community of learners should not be neglected. These findings and discussion will be of use to both surgical trainees and trainers to enhance the learning experience in the operating theatre both inside and outside the NHS.

A comprehensive guide to public sector collaboration with private and nonprofit organizations for better service delivery Governing Cross-Sector Collaboration tackles the issues inherent in partnerships with nongovernmental actors for public service delivery, highlighting the choices available and the accompanying challenges and opportunities that arise. Based on research, interviews with public, private and nonprofit sector leaders, and considerable analysis of organizations involved in public-private-nonprofit collaborations, the book provides insight into cross-sector collaboration at the global, federal, state, and local levels. Through an examination of the primary modes of cross-sector collaboration, including collaborative contracting, partnerships, networks, and independent public services providers, the book presents a clear case for how public managers can assess the trade-offs and use these options to improve public service delivery. Nonprofit organizations, businesses, and third-party contractors are increasingly partnering with government to deliver public services. Recognizing the types of collaborative approaches, and their potential to solve public policy problems is quickly becoming a major task for public managers, with new methods and techniques constantly emerging. Governing Cross-Sector Collaboration provides specific examples and a framework for public managers to make strategic choices about how to engage private and nonprofit actors in delivering public goods and services while ensuring the public interest. The book provides effective methods for choosing, designing, governing, and evaluating networks, partnerships, and independent public-services providers, with in-depth discussion encompassing: Analysis and engagement of cross-sector organizations Fostering democratic accountability in the public interest Collaborative approaches (including contracts, networks and partnerships) and the issues associated with each type of arrangement Leadership and organizational learning in cross-sector collaboration Included case studies illustrate effective application of the concepts and methods described, providing both practicing public and nonprofit managers and public policy/administration students with insight into these emerging strategic alliances. The first comprehensive guide to public governance collaborations, Governing Cross-Sector Collaboration is an important and timely contribution to the field of public management.
