During the field study 20 weed species were registered and determined in seedling alfalfa and 36 weed species in established alfalfa. Efficacy of herbicides in seedling alfalfa was ranged of 94.0% (imazethapyr) to 97.5% (imazamox-1.2 L/ha) in 2006, and 95.0% (imazethapyr) to 98.7% (imazamox-1.2 L/ha) in 2007, respectively. Efficacy of herbicides in established alfalfa was ranged of 91.8% (pronamide) to 98.4% (metribuzin-1.0 kg/ha) in 2007, 93.1% (imazetapyr) to 97.3% (metribuzin-1.0 kg/ha) in 2008 and 92.1% (imazetapyr) to 97.3% (metribuzin-1.0 kg/ha) in 2009, respectively. In the end of alfalfa exploitation period, a greenhouse experiment was conducted to detect the soil residues of metribuzin, imazethapyr and pronamide applied in established alfalfa stand by a bioassay using wheat. Detection of herbicide residues was determined from soil samples collected from depths of 0-5, 5-10, 10-20 and 20-30 cm. Most of the herbicides did not significantly affected plant density, height and fresh weight of wheat plants in any soil depth. Exceptions was pronamide, which significantly reduced wheat plant density, height and fresh weight of wheat at 10-20 and 20-30 cm depth.

Herbicides with different mode of action when mixed together, bind to different target site in weeds and prevent the probability of target site resistance in susceptible species. Today, most of the commercially available herbicides are mixture of grassy and non-grassy herbicides and have efficiency against these types of weeds only. Therefore, targeted weed control mixtures are required to prevent resistance in one or more weed species.

India occupies prime position in seed spices and plays very important role in earning foreign exchange through export of seed spices. India is the world’s largest producer, consumer and exporter of the spices. Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) is an important seed spice. Gujarat ranks first with respect to production and productivity in India. Area under rabi direct seeded fennel is increasing day by day, because it is more profitable than other rabi crops like wheat, gram, cumin, mustard etc. Lake of production technologies and weed control particularly for rabi drilled fennel are important constraints in boosting up the production. Initial slow growth of seed spices leads to severe weed crop competition and reduces growth as well as yield as high as 91.4%. Application of herbicides in fennel effectively controls the weeds and increases seed yield from 43.2 to 86.9 %. Soil weed seedbank is reserve of viable seeds present on the surface and in the soil. The seedbank is an indicator of past and present weed populations in soil. It is the main source of weeds in agricultural fields. Therefore, knowledge of seedbank dynamics can help in designing weed management practices.

The weed control treatments includes one pre and three post emergent herbicides compared with two hand weeding at 20 and 40 days after sowing and weedy check.Clethodim 24 % EC @ 60 g a. i. ha-1 along with NIS + AMS effectively controlled weeds as well as reduce the weed dry weight significantly as compared to all other treatments except application of clethodim 24 % EC @ 48 g a. i. ha-1 along with NIS + AMS. Minimum diversity index of weeds and lower species richness was recorded in the treatment which receiving clethodim 24 % EC @ 48 g a. i. ha-1 along with NIS + AMS.Highest weed control efficiency was noticed in clethodim 24 % EC @ 60 g a. i. ha-1 along with NIS + AMS (71.79 %). Application of clethodim 24 % EC @ 60 g a. i. ha-1 along with NIS + AMS significantly recorded higher number of pods per plant, number of seeds per plant, pod weight per plant, hundred grain weight and seed yield without any phytotoxicity. This was on par with application of clethodim 24 % EC @ 48 g a. i. ha-1 along with NIS + AMS.The weed control treatments did not show any observable phytotoxicity symptoms on the succeeding green gram crop as well as germination, root weight, shoot weight.

Lead nitrate caused an inhibition in sodium accumulation in the root of soybean plants. Sodium accumulation in the stem and leaf was increased at 21-day plants subjected to lower concentration of lead nitrate treatment. The accumulation of potassium in the root and stem was decreased following lead nitrate treatment but potassium content in the leaf was increased. Lead nitrate increased nitrate accumulation in the stem and decreased that in the root and leaf of soybean plants. The accumulation of phosphate in the root and stem of soybean plants was decreased but that in the leaf was increased. Lead nitrate dramatically decreased the dry weight of root, stem and leaf. Lead treatment resulted in the anatomical changes in stems and roots of soybean e.g. smaller vascular cylinder, more cortical layer with larger cell size, irregular size of cambium ring, disorganized and deformed shape of metaxylem and protoxylem etc. Lead nitrate also caused chlorosis and brown spots in leaf at different level of treatments. The relationship between anatomical structures and ion transport will be discussed.

It is well established that preemergence herbicide activity is influenced by soil type, and recommended rates for most soil-applied herbicides are adjusted to soil type. Current technology allows application rates to be adjusted on the go (VRA), adjusting the rate as soil type changes in a field. Most applicators offering this service base herbicide rates on soil organic matter content. However, several other factors influence herbicide activity, most importantly weed density and environment. This research is to determine which of these factors is most important in determining the optimum herbicide rate, and the economic benefit of VRA to the grower. The objective of this study is to determine the relative contribution of soil type, weed density and environmental factors on herbicide effectiveness.

For the past ten years, the greengram [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] and blackgram (Vigna mungo L.) sown in rice (Oryza sativa L.) fallows on residual soil moisture was found infested by yellow vein mosaic virus and cuscuta weed (biotic stress)problem. In the absence of immediate solution to these problems, the rice-pulse sequence was replaced by rice-zero till maize (Zea mays L.) sequence. But, unlike pulses, maize crop is raised in rice fallows with supplemental irrigation. Hence, in sequence crop, problems like rice stubble rejuvenation, initial weed competition and pollen drying & barrenness at tasseling stage owing to high temperature emerged (abiotic stress). Hence, the present investigation was undertaken to identify a suitable agronomic package, to overcome these ripples and to characterize soil health status after the rice-maize cropping system.

Soybean is one of the most popular protein rich leguminous crop used as food and feed. However, yield performance is very low and varied in different environments drastically in Bangladesh. Therefore, the present work has been planned to select high yielded stable soybean genotypes through mutation breeding. I performed two experiments where fifteen soybean genotypes were used. In the first experiment the superior soybean mutant genotypes were selected by testing yield performance and genotype-environment interaction was observed for stability. In the second experiment selected soybean mutants were characterized using RAPD marker. Polymorphic bands of RAPD markers suggesting that genotypes were different from each other and possessed genetic diversity among them. Thus, these markers could be efficient for comparing the genetic relationships, patterns of variation and measurement of genetic distance among the selected soybean genotypes. Therefore, from these soybean mutants SBM-09, SBM-17 and BINA Soybean-1 had been selected as stable and higher yield performing genotypes for enhancing yield.

This study investigated the effect of perceived self-efficacy on low and high achieving students, year level, age and gender in mathematics. The participants in the study were students aged 13-15 years in a secondary school in London. The research investigates how self-efficacy influences mathematics performance in academic settings. The distinctiveness of self-efficacy against other expectancy constructs is highlighted, followed by an exposition of the existing self-efficacy research in mathematics. Findings indicate that highly efficacious students in mathematics perform well than students with low self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is depicted as having a significant effect on mathematics performance and the year level. The study depicts that self-efficacy does not significantly influence age and gender. The measures used in the mathematics questionnaire substantiate the view that particularized or task specific measures of self-efficacy can be combined with the global measures in the explanation and prediction of academic outcomes.

In this book, we quantified the effect of using management practices to increase current maize productivity and reduce production-consumption gap that is about 45%. These suggested management practices were precise land leveling and cultivation on raised beds, which can save 25% of the applied water to surface irrigation. Furthermore, we quantified the effect of intercropping maize with soybean, maize intercropped with tomato, cowpea intercropped with maize and relay intercropping potato with maize on reducing maize production-consumpation gap. Similar procedure was done under climate change in 2030 using highly accurate weather data. Finally, quantification of the effect of these suggested management practices on maize water productivity was done. These quantifications are very important for policy makers to be included in their future plans.

Interpreting Albert Bandura's term "self-efficacy" as the individual's belief in his own abilities to succeed in spite of the given circumstances, this study seeks to identify the influences which lead to self-efficacy in Montessori teachers.The research indicates that Montessori teachers with high levels of self-efficacy have strong mastery experiences that support their attitudes and desired professional goals. The quantitative results also show that an emotional state associated with past experiences is the second best contributor to self-efficacy. Considering that self-efficacy may be most malleable during the early stages of learning, the results of this study serve to enhance the teacher-training experience though the analysis of early obstacles.

The wide utilization of herbicides in the crop management has created a challenging problem in terms of residual herbicides. The major problems experienced are the contamination of soil, surface water, and possibly ground water with their residues. Therefore, systematic studies are needed to evaluate the toxicity of several substituted triazines and triazoles as well as their metal complexes in order to understand the role of substituents and metal complexation in modifying the activities of herbicidal compounds containing N-heterocyclic systems. This book describes the basic chemistry of derivatization and metal complexation of selected herbicide systems that can be used as a means for modifying their activities. Accordingly, Atrazine (ATZ), Simazine (SMZ), and Amitrole (ATA) were derivatized into HAATZ, HSMZ, and NSATA respectively. Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of NASTA were synthesized. All the synthesized compounds were characterized on the basis of analytical, magnetic susceptibility, conductance, IR, NMR, UV-VIS spectral studies. An octahedral geometry for Co(II)-NSATA complex and square planar geometry for Ni(II)-NSATA and Cu(II)-NSTA complexes are proposed.

This book aim to explore what are the reasons for college students to prefer in using SNSs in learning English language. This investigation applies self-efficacy theory to explain how using SNSs will affect students' beliefs. The study used questionnaire to conduct empirical research,collect, and analyze data of 286 participants from Umm AL-Qura University in Makkah in KSA. The findings clearly reflect that there is no significant difference between female and male groups in familiarity with SNSs. There is a significant positive correlation between reasons for using SNSs and students' academic self-efficacy. Multiple regression analysis showed only non-academic reasons for using social networking sites technology and it has a positive effect on the students' academic self-efficacy. The results suggest that using SNSs in daily life for non-academic reasons will promote students' academic self-efficacy for informal learning purposes. As well as using SNSs in academic field with regulated learning environment may promote both effective methods of teaching and learning English language.

Master's Thesis from the year 2008 in the subject Health Science, California State University, Northridge, language: English, abstract: This project focused on implementing a needs assessment to measure baseline knowledge of college females on fertility awareness and to see if there was an interest for a curriculum addressing fertility awareness. The sample consisted of one hundred and fifty-seven (N = 157) college females who were given a needs assessment on their knowledge of the menstrual cycle, self-efficacy in interpreting fertility biomarkers, and desire for educational opportunities in fertility awareness. Statistical analysis showed a small correlation between an increase in age and self-efficacy in fertility awareness and Hispanic/Latinos scored significantly higher than Black/African Americans on the self-efficacy scale. The results of the needs assessment also indicated a desire for an educational opportunity in fertility awareness. Four content experts validated the curriculum that was created from the needs assessment, using a 10-point Likert scale. Future research needs to focus on racial and ethnic discrepancies on knowledge of the menstrual cycle and health education programs need to focus on menstrual and fertility awareness education for adult women.

As such, 61 students and 5 teachers from a dance conservatoire participated in an experimental study. Students were randomly divided into 4 groups. Growth, development and yield of soybean are a result of a variety's genetic potential interacting with environment and farming practices. Experiments were carried out in two locations for determining the resistance of some soybean genotypes to the cotton leaf worm. Beside that, identification of molecular genetic markers linked to insect resistance was also done. An attempt was done to get some new resistant hybrids through execution hybridization between these cultivars. Plant height, numbers of branches and pods per plant and seed yield per plant were decreased significantly by the infestation of cotton leaf worm (Spodoptera littoralis) as compared with soybean plants grown in Giza region (non - stressed treatment). The results of SDS-PAGE revealed a total number of 21 bands with molecular weight (MW) ranging form about 319.63 to 15.568 KDa. 5 primers showed specific ISSR markers for cotton leaf worm with 6 positive markers for cotton leaf worm resistance appeared in the resistant genotypes, while 2 negative markers for susceptibility for cotton leaf worm were present in the susceptible genotypes.
