Thus no information is discarded until the algorithm has iteratively converged to a solution, at which time a hard decision is taken. The soft-input soft-output concept refers to infinite quantized or analog values in a natural form. This research work proposes CMOS integrated circuit implementations of both the encoding and the decoding algorithms. In particular it explores an all-analog decoder implementation that will naturally exploit the continuous nature of the received signals.The proposed analog decoder is based on the additive soft-input soft-output algorithm that can be naturally mapped into a multiple input floating gate transistors implementation. By taking advantage of the symmetric structure of the trellis generated by convolutional codes, every node in the trellis can have a direct analog counterpart that will mathematically solve the decoding algorithm in the analog domain.

In this book, we have proposed a novel hardware architecture for face-recognition system. In order to make the system cost effective we have used a simple yet efficient algorithm of face-recognition system. We have designed, implemented and verified the algorithm in a cyclone III Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) chip. Altera DE0 development board which contains a cyclone III chip on it have been used for debugging purpose. We have also ensured for low power consumption such that the chip could be used universally in a wide range of security systems. To develop a simple yet efficient face recognition algorithm (such as PCA, FFT etc.) on digital hardware, we have researched on various face recognition algorithms using Matlab codes and studied their detection efficiency under various posture and background and also the complexity of the algorithm. To save hardware resource and at the same time to obtain an acceptable level of recognition we have chosen to use Fast Fourier Transform.

One approach to improve the performance of maintenance activities is to implement a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) system. The aim of this dissertation is to prove that the introduction of a TPM system is by no means an easy task, because there are several barriers that encumber the implementation process, the driving forces to success have to be identified and well understood, and a process of organisational change has to be managed successfully. The study analyses impediments, barriers and obstacles to the implementation procedure and discovers key success factors concluding with a conceptual framework for a successful TPM implementation. The dissertation also examines the challenge of managing change within the TPM context and identifies that such a TPM journey requires employee and management commitment to be successful. Through a case study of implementing TPM in an automotive supplier company, the practical aspect within and beyond basic TPM theory and problems encountered during the implementation are discussed and analysed. In the era of High Performance Energy Efficient Computing (HPEEC), the focus of research is again shifting for Eco-friendly design. In this work, we applied 3 clock gating techniques (Latch Free, Latch Based, Flip-Flop Based) on 3 ALU(Synchronous, Asynchronous and Global Reset) to find the most energy efficient techniques out of 6 combination under consideration. Then, we try to get the benefit of 28nm technology in term of energy efficiency, which delivers twice the gate density of the 40nm process and also features a BRAM cell size shrink of 50 percent. Finally, we search for the most energy efficient IO Standard for latch free clock gated global reset ALU to design the most energy efficient ALU possible.

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: The purpose of this thesis is to compare several filter topologies used for the decimation of sigma-delta modulated digital signals. The goal is to present optimized filter architectures with regard to an efficient VLSI implementation. A fifth-order 1-bit sigma-delta modulator using local feedback techniques will be considered as the front-end A/D converter. The subsequent digital filter reduces the sampling rate by a factor of 32. The decimation filter must guarantee a narrow transition band between 0.5 and 0.55 and stopband attenuation of 100dB. Chapter 1 provides a brief introduction into the principles of digital signal processing. The considerations are focused on FIR filters due to the requirements for acoustic applications. Chapter 2 illustrates the proposed overall structure and the design flow. The objective of chapter 3 is to present the principles of oversampling data converters using sigma-delta techniques. The 5V fifth-order SD-modulator with 90dB dynamic range (SNR+THD) will be presented, which has been fabricated in 1.2µm CMOS technology. For the sake of simplicity and robustness, a 1-bit quantizer will be used. Chapter 4 deals with typical hardware realizations of digital filters. After a historical overview of how graphic cards have evolved, the peculiarities of GPU and CPU hardware are discussed. Based on this knowledge, OpenCL is introduced as an API supporting all kinds of processing hardware. A deeper look into OpenCL's execution and memory model, which allows handling heterogeneous hardware, is rounded off by a simple, yet full example code.The thesis then continues with several implementations of standard algorithms for the GPU. The chosen problems start with matrix multiplication and go along with the all-prefix sum and sorting. As the first problem already offers parallelism naturally, performance analysis and optimization is focused during the first implementation chapter. The all-prefix sum and sorting are both problems being more dicult to split into independent pieces of work. Techniques will be discussed to tackle such kind of problems.Each GPU implementation is benchmarked and compared with one or more traditional CPU approaches. As GPUs and CPUs have different hardware architectures, appropriate algorithms and optimizations have been chosen to solve the problems by exploiting the underlying platform at best.

Continuous advances in silicon technology have enabled a new generation of chip multiprocessors, called manycores. Current designs of these systems comprise many simple and energy-efficient processor cores for an unprecedented computational power and energy efficiency. Nonetheless, this book identifies three fundamental performance bottlenecks that prevent future manycores from scaling to larger core counts. In particular, highly contended synchronization in barriers and locks, along with the overhead due to coherency activity of hardware coherence protocols. To overcome such performance bottlenecks, three distinct and complementary simple and power-efficient hardware-based solutions have been proposed: GBarrier, GLock and ECONO, respectively. A comprehensive evaluation of these new architectures utilizing a current industrial tool flow, full-custom state-of-the-art technology, full-system simulation, and a representative set of current benchmarks, reveals that integrating these three hardware solutions constitutes a step forward for both power-performance efficiency and improved scalability in future manycore systems.

An Excitation Particle Filter (EPF) is introduced in this book for object tracking. A new likelihood model is proposed. It depends on multiple likelihood functions: position likelihood; gray level intensity likelihood and similarity likelihood. Also, we modify the PF as a robust estimator to overcome the well-known sample impoverishment problem of the PF. The proposed enhanced PF (EPF) is implemented in software and evaluated. Simulation results demonstrated the superior performance of the proposed tracker in terms of accuracy, robustness and occlusion over classical tracking algorithms. Three efficient novel hardware architectures of the Sample Important Resample Filter (SIRF) and the EPF are introduced and implemented on FPGA platform. These architectures feature speed improvement, efficient memory utilization, and/or hardware resource saving.

At the same time, the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is emerging fast as de facto standard for electronic data exchange. In order to be able to benefit from both technologies, a number of approaches have already been developed, aiming at the integration of XML and DBMS. They allow processing XML data on the basis of declarative query languages, don’t pay however much attention to the manipulation of XML data. The objective of this diploma thesis is to implement X-Ray QL, a declarative query and data manipulation language for X-Ray, an integration approach using the idea of a meta database. X-Ray QL allows besides creating, editing and deleting XML data in a declarative way, to retrieve the XML data using simple select queries. The implementation of X-Ray QL consequently provides an operative runtime part of the X-Ray architecture with features like session management, authorisation mechanism and transaction control. The goal is to present optimized filter architectures with regard to an efficient VLSI implementation. A fifth-order 1-bit sigma-delta modulator using local feedback techniques will be considered as the front-end A/D converter. The subsequent digital filter reduces the sampling rate by a factor of 32. The decimation filter must guarantee a narrow transition band between 0.5 and 0.55 and stopband attenuation of 100dB.Chapter 1 provides a brief introduction into the principles of digital signal processing. The considerations are focused on FIR filters due to the requirements for acoustic applications. Testing and comparing antivirus software necessitates the availability of malware samples. An efficient way to detect malware is the use of honeypots. There exist honeypots which passively wait for automated attacks in order to capture the malicious binaries. Other types of honeypots crawl the web, and, by being attacked, can identify malicious websites. The goal was to create an efficient, easily manageable and adaptable network of honeypots, distributed worldwide, which automatically collects and handles malware from the web. For this purpose, existing honeypots were investigated and compared extensively. The findings were incorporated in the design of specialized, user-friendly honeynets, capable of automatically collecting malware samples and handling already known and unknown (zero-day) attacks. Additionally, an efficient sorting mechanism for large amounts of malware files was developed in order to create useful test sets.
