Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Computer Science - Applied, grade: none, , course: Information Technology , language: English, abstract: This thesis proposes a software description language to represent the source code ofC++, Java, and VB.NET in the Extensible Markup Language. The similarity ofsemantics between these languages enables representing the source code in a form suchthat both, the source code and logic can be easily shared and reused between theselanguages.By performing semantic and syntactic comparison between C++, Java and VB.NET, theproposed language has been designed to include the similar and identical features andlanguage constructs. For every adopted language construct, a corresponding construct inthe proposed language has been developed. The validity of the proposed language has been investigated and proved theoretically byconducting a semantic comparison between the three languages and experimentally bydeveloping applications to convert source code from Java into the proposed languageand from the proposed language into VB.NET. Validation cases have been designed toinclude various programs such as sorting, searching and also to include the most usedprogramming constructs in the three languages. Source code of the validation caseshave been converted from Java into the proposed language, and from the proposedlanguage into VB.NET. Java and VB.NET programs of the validation cases have beenexecuted and results compared. The results were iden...

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Computer Science - Software, grade: A+, , language: English, abstract: The communication gap between the deaf and hearing population is clearly noticed. To make possible the communication between the Deaf and the hearing population and to overpass the gap in access to next generation Human Computer Interfaces, automated sign language analysis is highly crucial. Conversely, an enhanced solution is to build up a conversion system that translates a sign language gestures to text or speech. Exploration and experimentation of an efficient methodology based on facet features analysis. For a recognition system that can recognize gestures from video which can be used as a translation, A methodology has been proposed that extracts candidate hand gestures from sequence of video frames and collect hand features. The system has three separate parts namely: Hand Detection, Shape Matching and Hu moments comparison. The Hand Detection section detects hand through skin detection and by finding contours. It also includes processing of video frames. The procedure of shape matching is attained by comparing the histograms. The values of Hu moments of candidate hand region is identified using contour region analysis and compared to run matches and identify the particular sign language alphabet. Experimental analysis supports the efficiency of the proposed methodology on benchmark data.

This Learning to Program Java text book is designed as the first course of a two semester course in Java programming. Selected topics from the Java programming language are introduced to facilitate a beginner programming in Java. All exercises are programming problems. Programming problems are used as exercises to enforce a programming paradigm. A high percent of learning to program is highly correlated with the practice of designing and implementing programs for specific requirements. The translator or compiler will enhance the student knowledge through the trail and error process of removing errors from their programs. Emphasis is on defining Java constructs and their use in programming. Students are encouraged to program all the exercises at the end of each Chapter. Also students are encouraged to program their own applications to enhance their knowledge base. The idea is to program as many applications as possible using various Java constructs to improve programming skills in the Java programming language. Emphasis is placed on programming applications requirements. To enforce this paradigm Chapters are organized to maximize the learning process. Chapters on Exceptions and File Input and Output are introduced early in the text. After the file input and output are introduced all programs should read and write files to devices to maximize the learning experience.

Scientific Study from the year 2017 in the subject Computer Science - Applied, grade: 1,5, Mar Augusthinose College, language: English, abstract: Provable data possession (PDP) is a technique for ensuring the integrity of data in storage outsourcing. In this scheme, we address the construction of an efficient PDP scheme for distributed cloud storage to support the scalability of service and data migration, in which we consider the existence of multiple cloud service providers to cooperatively store and maintain the clients' data. We present a cooperative PDP (CPDP) scheme based on homomorphic verifiable response and hash index hierarchy. We prove the security of our scheme based on multi-prover zero-knowledge proof system, which can satisfy completeness, knowledge soundness, and zero-knowledge properties. In addition, we articulate performance optimization mechanisms for our scheme, and in particular present an efficient method for selecting optimal parameter values to minimize the computation costs of clients and storage service providers. Our experiments show that our solution introduces lower computation and communication overheads in comparison with non-cooperative approaches. Using MR-PDP to store treplicas is computationally much more efficient than using a single-replica PDP scheme to store t separate, unrelated files (e.g., by encrypting each file separately prior to storing it). Another advantage of MR-PDP is that it can generate further replicas on demand, at li...

The first half of the book provides chapters by advanced graduatestudents who are making their first contributions to understanding organizational behavior. The secondhalf of the book provides chapters illustrating new views of organizational constructs but from the perspectivesof more established researchers in the field. All chapters share a common theme of attemptingto provide new ways of viewing organizations and organizational behavior. Each chapter is based on thepremise that, when presented with problems that seem impossible to solve, often the best results areachieved by finding new perspectives on the basic constructs being studied. These new perspectives provideinsights which illuminate the problems for the theory of organizations as well as improving the abilityof organizational members to solve practical organizational problems.

There is a dearth of scientific literature on speech recognition for Arabic language. Moreover, most of the research in this area is focused on using Romanized corpus which results in poor accuracy of speech recognition systems. This book presents a study of speech recognition for the Arabic language using a fully-diacritized corpus of an old classic Arabic book called Sahih Al-Bukhari. After comparing the accuracy of the Arabic speech recognition systems using the two types of corpora, this study has shown that better accuracy is achievable using fully-diacritized corpus rather than Romanized corpus. This conclusion can be used as a first step towards developing more accurate Arabic speech recognition systems and to encourage researchers to build extensive library of fully-diacritized corpora of old Arabic books.

The taxonomy and categorization of second/foreign language motivation into integrative and instrumental motivation has long been established and dominated L2 motivation research in different educational contexts. According to Lambert (1972), Integrative motivation reflects an interest in learning another language because of a sincere and personal interest in the people and culture represented by the other language group. Instrumental motivation on the other hand, refers to the pragmatic and functional orientations in learning a foreign language. Gardner (1985) claimed that integrative motivation is the most important and predictable factor of excelling in a second language than the instrumental motivation. Nevertheless, this assumption that stresses the importance of integrative motivation over the instrumental one in predicting the level of success in learning a second language, has rather been challenged, and a set of controversial findings have been reported. This study sought to compare and investigate the motivational and attitudinal orientations of Sudanese undergraduate students towards learn...

The programmable devices normally support efficient utilization of data by providing a fixed architecture of caches or scratch pad memories. These caches or scratch pad memories are designed on the basis of few heuristics that are generic enough to provide varying degree of performance enhancement for various applications. However, the performance for applications having complex data accesses can still be improved by providing more customized memory layouts for those applications.

Seminar paper from the year 2013 in the subject Economics - Job market economics, grade: 1,0, Humboldt-University of Berlin (Angewandte Mikroökonometrie / Arbeitsmarktökonomik), course: Topics in Labour Economics, language: English, abstract: Using a large administrative data set, a recent study by Dustmann, Ludsteck, and Schönberg [2009] finds convincing evidence for rising wage inequality in West Germany during the past three decades. Their paper shows that the increase occurred above the median during the 1980s, and was augmented by rising inequality below the median in the 1990s. These results challenge the pervasive conception of the German wage structure being a paragon of stability.Within the scope of this seminar paper, I replicate parts of their analysis using a different data set, namely the German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP) for the period from 1984 to 2009. Using monthly and hourly earnings constructs, I assess the extent to which the results of Dustmann, Ludsteck, and Schönberg [2009] can be recovered from GSOEP data. I do so by exploring the wage distribution along several dimensions. In addition to this, I analyze composition-constant counterfactual wage densities using the kernel density reweighting method advanced by DiNardo, Fortin, and Lemieux [1996]. A provisional evaluation of my results suggests that I can confirm the majority of findings of the original paper along a qualitative dimension. A quantitative assessment, however, reveals considerable deviat...

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2016 in the subject Computer Science - Bioinformatics, , language: English, abstract: Schmallenberg (SBV) is a new virus of the Bunyaviridae family within the genus Orthobunyavirus. The viral infection causes mild clinical signs: fever, reduced milk production and diarrhea, as well as considerable economic loss. There is currently no treatment or vaccine for infected animals. We aimed to design a peptide vaccine using an Immunoinformatics approach to stimulate the immune system and reduce the potentially negative effects of using live vaccines. In this study, a total of 47 strains of complete M polyprotein sequence (Gn/NSm/GC) and 61 strains of nonstructural protein in S segment (NSs) of Schmallenberg virus which were chosen for this study were taken from NCBI. Potentially continuous B and T cell epitopes were predicted using tools from immune epitope data base analysis resource (IEDB-AR). We found that Gn and Gc regions of M polyprotein in SBV were clearly suitable and could be used for the preparation of immunological constructs. Our studies suggest that: B cell epitope 764QQQACSS770 and CTL epitopes 251YMYNKYFKL259, 46SECCVKDDI54 and 234IVYVFIPIF242 could be used as a potential vaccine candidate against SBV.We consider this study distinctive because no research ever dealt with peptide-based vaccines on virulent strains of SBV using an in silico approach.

Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 1.0, University of Duisburg-Essen (Department of English Linguistics), course: Developments in modern Linguistics, 14 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: In 1994, when Steven Pinker's book "The language instinct" was published, the linguistic world was confronted with the renewed debate, whether language comes from innate ideas or is just the result of experiencing and learning. This important debate which concerns linguistics until today will be the topic of the following work. The important question is, if a language instinct really exists and which evidence one can provide to assume that our language ability is inherited. Until today, there is great discussion and speculation about innate language ideas and the most important proponent for them nowadays is Steven Pinker. To set his nativist ideas in an appropriate context, it is necessary to explain where the ideas of "nativism" and the opposite linguistic school "empiricism" come from and what characteristics they show. This constructs a context and prepares a base for the focus on Pinker's book. The most important founder of today's nativist thoughts is certainly Noam Chomsky, whose ideas were the basis for Pinker's assumption of a language instinct. For this reason, I will present a short summary of Chomsky's ideas as the last aspect of the first ...

The power and elegance of generic types have long been acknowledged. Generics allow developers to parameterize data types much like you would parameterize a method. This brings a new dimension of reusability to your types without compromising expressiveness, type-safety, or efficiency. Now .NET generics makes this power available to all .NET developers. By introducing generic concepts directly into the Common Language Runtime (CLR), Microsoft has also created the first language-independent generics implementation. The result is a solution that allows generic types to be leveraged by all the languages of the .NET platform. This book explores all aspects of the .NET generics implementation, covering everything from fundamental generic concepts, to the elements of generic syntax, to a broader view of how and when you might apply generics. It digs into the details associated with creating and consuming your own generic classes, structures, methods, delegates, and interfaces, examining all the nuances associated with leveraging each of these language constructs. The book also looks at guidelines for working with generic types, the performance gains achieved with generics, the new generic container libraries (BCL and third party), and key aspects of the underlying .NET implementation. Automata and Dictionaries is aimed at students and specialists in natural language processing and related disciplines where efficient text analysis plays a role. Large linguistic resources, in particular lexica, are now recognized as a fundamental pre-requisite for all natural language processing tasks. Specialists in this domain cannot afford to be ignorant of the state-of-the-art lexicon-management algorithms. This monograph, which is also intended be used as an advanced text book in computational linguistics, fills a gap in natural language processing monographs and is complementary to other publications in this area. This book is also a source of examples, exercises and problems for software engineering in general. The algorithms that are presented are excellent examples of non-trivial problems of graph construction, graph handling and graph traversal. Even though published in scientific journals, they have not been presented in an easily accessible form so far to teachers and students. These algorithms will also be of interest for the training of software engineers.Chapter 1 of Automata and Dictionaries provides the application-oriented motivation for solving the problems studied in the rest of the book. It introduces and exemplifies several key notions of lexicon-based natural language processing in a way accessible to any computer science student. Chapter 2 surveys the main solutions of the problem, using as an example a very small toy lexicon. Chapter 3 defines the und...

'Standard Spoken Language in School and Media Domain: A case study of Singapore' aims to examine the corpus of Standard Spoken Tamil (SST) in the media and school domains in Singapore, in order to establish SST as an additional resource for the teaching and learning of Tamil. The rationale for this study is that it will lead to instructional strategies that seek to redress the disjunction in the pedagogic context where only one monolithic norm, that of Literary Tamil (LT) prevails. In Singapore, more and more Primary one students are coming from English speaking homes. Given that general situation, Tamil students are able to write well and efficient in using the Literary Tamil variety which is used in formal situation and unable to speak or converse in Spoken Tamil which is the variety used for day to day communication. To develop the oral skills and to make Tamil as a living language in Singapore, students need to speak in Spoken Tamil and understand the diglossic background of Tamil language. This book addresses those issues and provides pedagogical recommendations.

This book aim to explore what are the reasons for college students to prefer in using SNSs in learning English language. This investigation applies self-efficacy theory to explain how using SNSs will affect students' beliefs. The study used questionnaire to conduct empirical research, collect, and analyze data of 286 participants from Umm AL-Qura University in Makkah in KSA. The findings clearly reflect that there is no significant difference between female and male groups in familiarity with SNSs. There is a significant positive correlation between reasons for using SNSs and students' academic self-efficacy. Multiple regression analysis showed only non-academic reasons for using social networking sites technology and it has a positive effect on the students' academic self-efficacy. The results suggest that using SNSs in daily life for non-academic reasons will promote students' academic self-efficacy for informal learning purposes. As well as using SNSs in academic field with regulated learning environment may promote both effective methods of teaching and learning English language.

Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject English - Pedagogy, Didactics, Literature Studies, grade: 1,3, University of Cologne (Englisch), course: Problems in Second Language Acquisition, language: English, abstract: This term paper will focus on the discussion of the putative maturational constraints for second language acquisition. The age factor is an aspect of first and second language acquisition research which has engendered very much controversy. In the discussion about age-related effects on language acquisition, one can find disagreements as to both the facts and to their possible explanations. The different points of view range from the notion that young learners are in all aspects of language learning more efficient and achieve better results, to the contrary position that older learners are the better learners. In this paper, four of the positions concerning the age factor, which have been listed by Singleton, will be presented because they provide a good overview of the different views on this topic and the respective evidence belonging to them. Many of the differences in the results of various studies are due to the differences in how the results are elicited. The experimental design plays an important role for the outcomes.

This volume examines the nature of second language listening proficiency and how it can be assessed. The book highlights the need for test developers to provide a clear explication of the ability constructs which underpin the tests they offer in the public domain. This is increasingly necessary if claims about the validity of test score interpretation and use are to be supported both logically and with empirical evidence. It operationalises a comprehensive test validation framework which adopts a socio-cognitive perspective. The framework embraces six core components, examining and then analysing Cambridge ESOL listening tasks from the following perspectives: Test Taker; Cognitive Validity; Context Validity; Scoring Validity; Criterion-related Validity; and Consequential Validity.

Facial captures are widely used in many access control applications to authenticate individuals, and grant access to protected information and locations. For instance, in passport or smart card applications, many facial images must be secured during the enrollment process, prior to exchange and storage. Digital watermarking may be used to assure integrity and authenticity of these facial images against unauthorized manipulations, through fragile and robust water marking, respectively. It can also combine other biometric traits to be embedded as invisible watermarks in these facial captures to improve individual verification. Evolutionary Computation (EC) techniques have been proposed to optimize watermark embedding parameters in Intelligent Watermarking (IW) literature. The goal of such optimization problem is to find the trade-off between conflicting objectives of watermark quality and robustness. Securing streams of high-resolution biometric facial captures results in a large number of optimization problems of high dimension search space.

Defining the structure of a language gives information about that language. To define the structure, we should start to observe from smaller parts. These parts are roots and the suffixes for agglutinative languages. Turkish is also a agglutinative language like Finnish, Hungarian, etc. To get the morphological structure, we should be able to seperate the words to their roots and suffixes according to rules of order. This book explains how to get these information by computers without using any statistical methods.

Significant advancements in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) opens doors for wide implementation in real-time applications like Industrial Monitoring, Smart Cities development, Underwater monitoring operations, tracking objects and many more. Energy Efficient routing is regarded as the most challenging task. Sensor networks mostly operate in complex and dynamic environments and routing becomes tedious task to maintain as the network size increases. Lots of routing protocols- Reactive, Proactive and Hybrid are proposed by researchers but every protocol faces some limitations in terms of energy, routing, packet delivery ratio and security. Therefore, to overcome all the routing issues, the trend has shifted to Biological based Algorithms like Swarm Intelligence based techniques. Ant Colony Optimization based routing protocols have demonstrated exceptional results in terms of performance when applied to WSN routing. This thesis outlines routing protocols in sensor networks, highlight the concept of Swarm Intelligence and presents various Ant Colony Optimization based routing protocols for sensor networks. So-called 'resource poor' languages are largely ignored in the development of Information and Communication Technologies. Kîmîîrû, as a Kenyan Bantu language, can be classified as a resource scarce language (RSL) with respect to language technology resources, tools and applications. Again, Kîmîîrû orthography contains two diacritically marked characters (î and û) that require extra keystrokes to generate, a situation which often makes users opt for the diacritically unmarked equivalents, resulting in non-standard Kîmîîrû texts. These extra characters also pose a challenge for automated corpus collection methods, such as those using optical character recognition (OCR). This book explores the development of an open source spelling checker for Kîmîîrû language using the Hunspell Language Tools with a view of understanding the fundamental principles and morphological composition of Kîmîîrû nouns and verbs. An insight into the development of a suggestion component used to generate probable suggestions of misspelled words is also highlighted.
