The definition of quality education depends upon the subject's perspective. For example, for the students it may stand for the facilities provided to them; for parents it may be the learning outcomes; for teachers it may be the improvement of teaching learning processes; for prospective employers it may be the nature of the output. Secondary education takes a vital part in the formation of active citizens and also plays a critical role in addressing the emerging human development concerns in countries engaged in building knowledge societies to stay connected to the process of globalization. The role of secondary education in the growth of a nation is paramount and significant, more particularly in developing countries. Secondary education is the single largest supplier of labour force in most of the developing countries, including India. In view of the relation between education and economic growth in a less developed state like India, it is not the highly sophisticated manpower but the middle level (secondary) manpower that is necessary for enhancing the economic growth. This study deals with secondary education in Tripura, India. Academicians, researchers and students who are interested in studying secondary education in general and secondary education of Tripura in particular are the target group of this book which will surely help them to understand the problem of quality secondary education in India.

This book aimed at examining school community members' perceptions towards School Boards as management organs at school level and the extent to which such Boards have contributed to the prevailing trend of secondary education system. School Board is legally responsible for all school operations. Contrary to this, School Boards' contribution to secondary school improvement is minimal because Board members are not involved fully in every issue that occurs at schools. This is because of lack of professional background in education, poor representativeness, lack of commitment and managerial skills among Board members. This book has been designed to help those professionally engaged in secondary education management because of its practical orientation. This book provides direction and guidance to educational leaders, University and Teachers' Colleges' lecturers, tutors and students as well as serving as a valuable reference material for their courses and implementations. The book recommends that School Boards should be well informed about their school responsibilities to be effective in enhancing schools' performance socially and academically for school community members' benefits.

Teachers are called nation builders in every country and in every society. The role of teachers is of great importance. It is left to the teachers to inculcate personality characteristics, right values - the values of good citizenship producing law abiding and nation loving citizens. India has made considerable progress in school education since independence with reference to overall literacy, infrastructure and universal access and enrolment in schools. Two major developments in the recent years form the background to the present reform in teacher education - the political recognition of Universalization of Elementary Education (UEE) as a legitimate demand and the state commitment towards UEE in the form of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. The country has to address the need of supplying well qualified and professionally trained teachers in larger numbers in the coming years. At the same time, the demand for quality secondary education is steadily increasing. It is recommended that the aim should be to reach universal secondary education within a maximum of ten years. Given the problems of inadequate quality in most secondary schools due to poor infrastructure and insufficient and poorly equipped teachers, the need for addressing the professional education of secondary teachers acquires great importance. The education of teachers should be such that teachers should set an example and provide for their pupils the ideal of the citizens who is co...

Physical education teaching and learning efforts obviously target the student. Like parents, teachers, administrators and any other directly or indirectly involved parties, students do have opinions based on their experience on their respective physical education classes and physical education in general. These opinions, or so-called attitudes, are important to research due to their potential of giving insight to the learner's perspective, which may also serve as an authentic feedback from the student. This study investigated German secondary school students' attitudes toward physical education. Results have the intention to reveal what attitudes towards physical education German students have and which factors influence these attitudes. The study sample contained students from the different school types Gymnasium, Realschule, and Haupt-/Werkrealschule. The students were surveyed via questionnaire that was developed based on validated research instruments from prior studies in the field. Data was analyzed integrating independent variables such as students' gender, physical education grade, grade point average, body mass index, socioeconomic status, type of school, citizenship, and the exercise and physical activity behavior of students, their parents and their peers.

In the past decade, alternative sources of energy have increasingly been viewed as future of energy needs because they are renewable and generally cause less environmental degradation than biomass, fossil fuel and nuclear energy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitude and knowledge of secondary school students in the utilisation of alternative sources of energy for sustainable development. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study whereby the research instruments used included questionnaire and interview. Data obtained was analyzed by descriptive statistics. Results showed that students have a high perception of hydroelectric power as an alternative source of energy for lighting, and were in full support of traditional source of energy for cooking. As such, they defended the continuity of charcoal burning which is a source of livelihood in the study area. This book explores underachievement of boys and girls in secondary education. The author focuses her empirical study on the alarming underachievement of African Caribbean boys in British schools in comparison to other groups. She also adopts a historical perspective to compare West Indian children who arrived in Britain in the 1960s and 1970s (many labeled as ESN) (Coard 1971) to problems faced by black boys in today’s classrooms. Janet Graham also explores the impact of globalization, population movement, government policies, and diversity on black boys’ education provision in inner-city schools in Britain. She investigates masculinity, subcultures, peer-group pressures, and exclusion from school and their impact on black boys’ education. The institutional focus study sets the context for the empirical study and provides a perspective from voices of black boys in one inner-London school to find out what they think about school, learning, subcultures, peer-group pressures, and teachers. As a contrast, teachers’ views of the boys are also provided. This book will be of interest to educationalists, teachers, parents, school management, and government bodies interested in race, diversity, achievement, who want to bring about change to improve life chances.

Therefore only 30% of the eligible studets are going to secondary schools in Kenya (Aduda, Daily Nation, 14.06.2007). [...]During a three-month stay in Kenya I had the chance to conduct an interview with parents, who send their girls to a secondary school in Mabungo, a village next to the city of Ukunda. My aim was to find out, why parents decided to send the girls to school and what they expect from those investments in the future. Four leading hypotheses were established before the interviews took place, namely: 1. Families that have the choice of sending boys or girls to school prefer the boys. [...]2. Only parents who are educated themselves also care about education for their children.3. The work that has to be done around the house prevents parents from sending their children to school, since their working skills are needed in order to feed the family4. Parents see the investing in their children as a step into a secure future for themselves, which is often the main reason why they send their children to school. In order to find out whether those hypotheses apply, the interview was constructed around thos...

This research study was designed to assess whether educators and administrators in secular secondary schools would support the introduction of bioethics as an educational content area in school curriculums. Richard George Boudreau pursued the study to define the views of educators and parents regarding the integration of bioethics education, with a focus on topics ranging from abortion to pharmaceutical research. Quantitative research was collected from a sample of public-school educators through a questionnaire and subsequent reflections of parents in telephone interviews. The study was designed to provide a justification for and assessment of the feasibility of a new area of study, specifically bioethics, which would include content referencing the emerging application of science and medicine and the growing conflicts when determining ethical decision-making. The study utilized a mixed methodology and took into consideration the fact that both teachers and educators play a role in defining the funding mechanisms for curricular changes. In fact, this may be the key for bioethics educational content to be introduced in the public secondary school setting.Whether you're interested in educational philosophy, developing critical-thinking skills in students, or providing a balanced curriculum, you'll find meaningful insights in Incorporating Bioethics Education into School Curriculums.
