Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are ceramic coating systems developed to reduce the heat transfer from a hot medium to the coated parts. This technology can be used in automotive exhaust systems to reduce the heat transfer from the exhaust gases to the metal pipes. As a result, catalytic converters can reach the ideal temperature for the conversion of gases more quickly, reducing emissions. In order to be effective, coatings must be applied to the inside of pipes. However, conventional techniques for the preparation of ceramic coatings are not suitable for the deposition of coatings inside of long pipes with small diameter, or are too expensive. In this work, a TBC system was developed using the polymer-derived ceramics (PDC) technique. In this method, ceramic coatings are obtained by the thermal conversion of preceramic polymers into ceramics, after deposition of the coatings by simple lacquer techniques. Fillers are used to tailor the microstructure and the properties of the coatings. This book contains a review of the literature on PDC coatings, the procedures for the preparation of the TBCs, as well as their properties.

The wear resistance of PTFE can be significantly improved by addition of suitable filler materials. Besides the type, the shape and size of the materials added also influence the tribological properties. In the past, research in this area has been confined to the PTFE filled with conventional filler materials like glass fibers, graphite, carbon fibers, etc. However, with the growing demand for utilizing PTFE in a variety of applications, significant effort is needed towards developing the novel composite materials by adding one or more non-conventional filler materials possessing the potential of increasing the wear resistance. It is established that PTFE exhibits significantly low coefficient of friction when sliding against steels. The low coefficient of friction results from the ability of its extended chain linear molecules, - (CF2-CF2) n-, to form low shear strength films upon its surface and mating counter-faces during sliding. PTFE is extensively used for a wide variety of structural applications as in aerospace, automotive, earth moving, medical, electrical, electronics, computer and chemical industries. It is found that appreciable improvements in Tensile strength,Hardness number compression strength properties of 6% of Aluminum oxide filler addition with 20%(constant) Chopped E-glass fiber(3mm in length) fibers reinforced epoxy composites when compared with 4% and 2% Aluminum oxide filler addition.

To fabricate wires to certain defined standards however, is a major challenge, and so is the investigation and understanding of these properties in the first place. A promising approach is to use carbon nanotubes as well as DNA structures as templates. Many fundamental theoretical questions are still unanswered, e.g. related to the role of quantum fluctuations. This work is tackling them and provides a detailed analysis of the transport properties of such ultrathin wires. It presents an account of theoretical models, charge transport experiments, and also conveys the latest experimental findings regarding fabrication, measurements, and theoretical analysis. In particular, it is the only available resource for the approach of using DNA and carbon nanotubes for nanowire fabrication. Wear problem of grey cast irons selected as case study in this work is being faced in Brake Rotors, where abrasive and adhesive wear of these grey cast irons takes place due to the abrasive action. Although efforts have been made to reduce the friction coefficient and to increase the wear resistance of grey cast irons by varying alloying elements such as titanium yet there is little or no work on the use of coatings on various grades of grey cast irons used in braking rotors. The objective of the study is to develop the Detonation Sprayed wear resistant coatings Cylindrical pins of grey iron (GIHC and GI250) have been prepared. Three different coatings i.e. Stellite-21, Cr3C-25NiCr, and Al2O3-40TiO2 were deposited on end faces of these pins. Coatings were characterized using SEM/EDAX and XRD analysis. The wear testing on the uncoated as well as coated grey cast iron specimens was done with the help of Pin-on- Disk wear test rig. Wear data was collected for three loads i.e. 40N, 50N, 60N. The worn out specimens were characterized by SEM / EDXA analyses.

Biopharmaceutical medicinal products (biologics) represent a huge financial market. Thus upon patent protection expiry of the innovator (reference) biologic there is interest from industry to gain a portion of this market by launching a 'similar' biologic at a reduced development cost, thus boosting potential gains. The EMA responded to this desire and lead the guidance process with industry on the topic of biosimilars. Based on the experience gained with biosimilars in the past, the EMA started to introduce a second generation series of guidance documents, which take into account the past, current and possibly future challenges of biosimilars. Those proposals were evaluated by EMA and partially incorporated into new guidance documents. This work highlights the challenges and risks associated with biosimilar submissions for large and complex bio-molecules such antibodies. Results: There are unaddressed questions for the regulator with regard to the unsolved dynamic of heterogeneity and variations of the quality profile, which have potential implications on safety and efficacy. This is neglected and not taken into account seriously enough by the stakeholders. Solution: Further, the only (in my view) progressive way to deal with such foreseeable situations from the biosimilar developer's point of view is to incorporate a design space.

In case of Radar & Satellite communication links operating at frequencies ranging from 100 MHz to 90 GHz, have large power requirements. So GaN is well compatible over Si technology for these purposes to minimize power losses as heat. So GaN is a highly prospective compound semiconductor for future green technology. Uniformity in the setup of main objective and was successfully achieved.The setup consists of an inlet plenum with baffle to reduce turbulence or splashing, honeycomb structure, converging section, test section and wide angle diffuser and outlet module suitable low power single phase motor was selected for continuous flow of water in the setup. The water was recirculated using this motor and appropriate plumbing system.All the components were designed, analyzed, constructed and installed successfully .General purpose polymer was used as a ground material for the fabrication purpose. Necessary up gradations were made during various stages of the project. Flow visualization over the test bodies was successfully visualized using a dye injection system.

This book gives an overview on studies of physical, chemical and luminescent properties of pure and rare-earth doped group IV A oxide phosphors has been discussed. The oxides taken under consideration in present work is SiO2 and SnO2. SiO2 have been known for a long time as a convenient host for rare earths and have been widely used for the fabrication of solid-state lasers whereas SnO2 is a wide band gap n-type semiconductor with wide band gap of 2.5-3eV, which crystallizes in the rutile structure (tetragonal structure), SnO2 is a member of a special class of semiconductors that have direct band gaps but are dipole forbidden due to their special wave function symmetry. In the present work group IV A oxide (SiO2 and SnO2) phosphors had been prepared by sol-gel method but pure form of group IV A nanophosphors has feeble luminescence intensity. It increases many fold by doping them with rare earth elements therefore doping has been carried out with the help of rare earth elements (Ce3+, Eu3+ and Dy3+). They are incorporated simultaneously into silica and tin matrixes by sol-gel processes and are further characterized by general and luminescence characterization techniques.
