Change has become a central factor in the life of organizations, affecting not only global conglomerates but also small and medium enterprises. The ever-increasing pace of international business creates a dynamic and fluid working environment, in which sustainability can only be guaranteed by adequately responding to the effects of competition, technological advancements, and globalization. Corporate success is often measured not only by an enterprise’s profitability, but also by its growth rate. Strong growth shows a tangible future orientation and brings the promise of ongoing positive returns. The dynamic business environment of the past decades has resulted in shortened organizational lifecycles, speeding up the pace of growth. However, organizations often fail to see the crucial link between corporate growth and change management, leaving their expansion programs susceptible to the negative effects of unmanaged change. This book aims to establish the link between the fields of corporate growth and organizational change. By analyzing the stumbling stones for change programs it provides valuable guidance on how to realize the full potential of corporate growth initiatives.

Marlene Bleicher Can Endogenous Growth Theories Explain Growth in South Tyrol and Luxembourg.

Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Economics - Economic Cycle and Growth, grade: 1,0, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (Faculty of Economics & Management), language: English, abstract: This thesis analyzes the two economies of South Tyrol and Luxembourg, questioning whether their economic growth can be explained by concepts of endogenous growth theories.South Tyrol and Luxembourg are two quite similar economies in terms of size, population, cultural diversity and scarcity of natural resources, but yet very different in matters of economic growth, income per capita and economic specialization, which makes them an interesting sample to test for growth factors. Since endogenous growth theories, in contrast to neoclassical conceptions, provide a much broader range of tools to handle endogenous technological change, innovation and other factors, they are better suited to analyze growth factors. Therefore, this thesis first draws a summary on the evolution of endogenous growth theories including an outline of the most important contributions. It is shown that the factor "human capital" plays a major role in most models. Subsequently, the second part of the thesis deals with the economies of South Tyrol and Luxembourg in detail, evaluates historical economic growth, identifies tourism and financial intermediation as their main driving forces and asks whether human capital could be the moving power behind them. The method of choice for measuring is the co...

Project Report from the year 2002 in the subject Agrarian Studies, National Research Center - Agricultral and Biological Research Devision (-), language: English, abstract: High planting density is considered one of the modern management systems in new fruit orchards. Pruning and population adjustment are some of the main way to approach high productivity and good fruit quality under the modern management systems. Pruning is defined as the management of plant structure and fruiting wood and it is considered one of the main factors affecting fruit trees production. There are many objectives for pruning i.e. controlling the direction of growth, developing a strong framework, controlling the amount of growth, improved productiveness, improving quality product, utilizing space efficiently and increasing the usefulness of plant. There are three main systems of fruit trees training (i) Central leader system, (ii) Modified leader system, (iii) Open center or vase system. Also there are several kinds of pruning i.e. heading back and thinning out, fine and coarse pruning and root pruning. However, it is important to select the suitable training system and kind of pruning according to the target of the pruning to reach optimum vegetative growth and maximum yield with high fruit quality. On the other hand, population adjustment (plant distribution or planting density) is very important factor affecting fruit trees production. We can reach the optimum usefulness of the planted area by us...

Micro-enterprises are established as a way of generating income for small businessmen who lack the necessary capitalization for larger business ventures. They are, however, very significant in the endogenous economic growth of developing countries like the Philippines. To ensure the maximum benefits from micro-enterprise projects, it is necessary to ensure that business activities create added values to basic products as they go through the manufacturing and commerce aspects of business. The business management practices implemented by micro-enterprises can give basis for determining the degree of value creation. This research was conducted to determine the business management practices of micro-enterprises in Legazpi City, Philippines that lead to value creation. The book will be useful to business managers, academics and general public.

However, new firms face a serious problem of high mortality subsequent to their entry into the market. Thus the goal of this thesis paper was to identify survival factors of newly founded firms. In the core part of this paper, a crude systematization of success determinants into personal, firm-specific and environmental factors was used. The analysis of literature on firm survival and success factors revealed a mixed picture as different studies came up with contradicting results. Only few key findings were revealed to have consistent re-sults, which are further presented and discussed in this paper. Furthermore, a critical review of the success factor literature revealed also that utilization of different success measures, biased and unrepresentative samples, inappropriate analytical methods and the lack of a theory-driven approach all contribute to inconsistent results. Finally, it was also identified that the research community faces a paucity of literature in the field of regiona...

The book examines the owner-managers' perception and assessment of disaster risk impact on micro and small enterprises (MSEs) ' sustainability in rural- urban set up of a developing economy in Africa. It notes that entrepreneurial traits greatly influence risk decisions by micro and small entrepreneurs across gender. However, four cluster traits found outstanding were commitment, determination and perseverance; drive to achieve/succeed; calculated risk taking and risk seeking together with self-confidence & optimism. Further, it notes that demographic characteristics that significantly influence micro and small entrepreneurs' perception of disaster risks were age, ethnicity, training and education. However, on gender basis, women entrepreneurs were keener on risks before investing as opposed to male entrepreneurs. This is attributed to their being in business due to necessity and not because there is an opportunity as is the case for male entrepreneurs. Moreover, several sources of information and approaches blended to inform micro and small entrepreneurs' assessment of risks affecting their enterprises.

Andrea Sommariva The Political Economy of the Space Age. How Science and Technology Shape the Evolution of Human Society

This book provides answers to the questions of why human-kind should go into space, and on the relative roles of governments and markets in the evolution of the space economy. It adopts an interdisciplinary approach to answer those questions. Science and technology define the boundaries of what is possible. The realization of the possible depends on economic, institutional, and political factors. The book thus draws from many different academic areas such as physical science, astronomy, astronautics, political science, economics, sociology, cultural studies, and history. In the literature, the space economy has been analyzed using different approaches from science and technology to the effects of public expenditures on economic growth and to medium term effects on productivity and growth. This book brings all these aspects together following the evolutionary theory of economic change. It studies processes that transform the economy through the interactions among diverse economic agents, governments, and the extra-systemic environment in which governments operate. Its historical part helps to better understand motivations and constraints - technical, political, and economical - that shaped the growth of the space economy. In the medium term, global issues - such as population changes, critical or limited natural resources, and environmental damages – and technological innovations are the main drivers for the evolution of the space economy beyond Earth orbit. In universities, th...

By reviewing thecontributions from the neoclassical and endogenous growth theory and empiricevidences for the link between ICT and economic growth, the paper clearly concludesthat ICTs facilitate economic growth, principally by providing incentives for capitaldeepening and increasing productivity through rapid technological progress. However, the impact on growth is more extensive from the long-term ICT use and networking that though requires appropriate ICT investment and complementary efforts in order that spillovers and productivity improvements are triggered and exploited totally. This paper derives the key determinants and interacting factors that, in the corresponding correct synergic combination, promote ICT's impact on growth-generating processes. For a variety of reasons, the states of these factors in developing countries provide a less ICT favourable environment for taking advantage from ICTs. These economies exhibit a lower stock of human capacities and per capita capital to trigger the productivity benefits from the ICT use. Therefore, the level of effort is higher than in the developed world to receive...
