Labour migration from Malawi to South Africa is a ‘century-old phenomenon’. It dates as far back as the 1880s following the establishment of diamond and gold mines. In the period up to the 1980s, this migration took either formal or informal nature whereas in the post-1990 period it became exclusively informal, popularly known as selufu in Malawi. This book is an attempt to shed light on both forms of migration over time. By using the case of Mzimba, one of the major labour migration districts in Malawi, Perspectives of Labour Migration shows that migration, especially in the post-1990 period, remains a preoccupation of the different categories of both men and women in selected areas in the country. A cross-section of Malawians continue to regard emigration to South Africa as a means to an end: a way of fulfilling their heart-felt and life-time goals at household and societal levels. Because of their distinguished and unparalleled determination, these labour migrants continue to ‘flock’ to South Africa in the midst of such challenges as xenophobia, crime, arrests and deportations. The book advances the argument that Malawian labour migrants are purposive and rational human beings who are ready to overcome these challenges, at times using the most improbable means, for example, through the use of mankhwala gha mwabi (luck medicine).

The current debates about child labour have conceived child labour as vital element for the survival of poor families. Most of the traditional interventions were focusing on combating child labour with no consideration to the living circumstances of the child labourers, controversially the new approaches by different national and international stakeholders started to adjust their interventions to be appealing to the circumstances of child labourers and their families. The main theme of this dissertation is to examine the effectiveness of one of these interventions and its sustainability. For that purpose, a field research in Cairo, the capital of Egypt has been conducted. Master's Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Social Pedagogy / Social Work, , course: Social Work, language: English, abstract: South Africa has a high number of unmarried and absentee fathers which includes young unmarried fathers. A number of factors have contributed to this phenomenon. For example, apartheid policies such as the migrant labour system has impacted on family structure. In addition, legislation which did not give any unmarried fathers automatic responsibilities and rights in respect of their children may have contributed towards the rate of absentee fathers. The new Children's Act, which came into force in 2010 now provides for automatic responsibilities and rights for unmarried fathers who meet certain criteria. Unmarried fathers who have consented to be identified as the father and who have paid maintenance and cultural damages may now automatically acquire parental responsibilities and rights. This has the potential to significantly influence father-child relationshipsThis research is based on a qualitative research study focussing on young unmarried fathers' experiences and perceptions of fatherhood. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine fathers in KwaZulu-Natal. The participants had a total of fifteen children, four of whom lived with their fathers and paternal families. Findings indicated that high unemployment, non-payment of maintenance and cultural damages, and disputes with mothers and maternal families impacted signif...

Ghana is not an exception as migration has become a common household survival strategy and the 'basic survival' strategy for individuals and families to enable them cope with difficult economic conditions. However, migration from the Northern Regions (comprising the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions) of the country to the economically rich regions in the Southern part of Ghana (particularly the Greater Accra Region) has been taking place for a very long time due to environmental problems, ethnic conflicts and endemic poverty. Men have dominated the process of migration from the North to the South to supply labour in the cocoa farms, industries and mining centres. Historically, the few women involved in the migration process have usually migrated to join their husbands. However, the trend has changed since the 1980s with more women migrating independently to urban centres in Southern Ghana to work as head porters (kaya yei) and in other jobs such as petty trading and housemaids.

Seminar paper from the year 2006 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: European Union, grade: 2,0, University of Twente , 31 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: In most European societies, it is women who are considered responsible for raising children and caring for dependent family members, whereas men's task is to cater for the family financially. On the one hand, this prevents mothers from participating actively in the labour market, while on the other hand, it gives fathers little time to spend with their children. Traditionally, national welfare states have regulated this kind of inequality in accordance with society's norms and values, by providing a framework of services (e.g. public childcare facilities), monetary transfers (child-rearing benefits), and leave regulations (parental leave), thus creating incentives and disincentives for mothers (and fathers) to work and/or to look after the children at home. National arrangements vary considerably across the different states, whether they be geographically and culturally close or remote, whether they belong to the same or to a different welfare state regime. A good example for such differences are child-care arrangements in Germany and France. Although neighbours and both conservative-corporatist welfare states, they have developed very different approaches in dealing with the problem of labour market participation of women with children. In the past 20 years, welfare s...

Over the past 25 years labour migration from Bangladesh has registered a steady increase. From 1990 onwards on an average 2,25,000 Bangladeshis are migrating on short-term employment. The recent trend of the bulk of the migrants is more towards semi and unskilled labour migration. Major outflow of Bangladeshi labour generated significant financial flow to the country in the form of remittance. However, due to increase in the flow of unskilled and semi- skilled labour, remittance is increasing at a much lower rate than the labour flow. Remittance is crucial for Bangladesh's economy. It constitutes almost one-third of the foreign exchange earning. In 1998-99, remittance contributed 22 percent in financing imports. Studies have shown it has strong positive impact on GDP, and also on consumption and investment. This research assesses to identify the role of remittance in rural development. It also evaluates current uses and impacts of remittance, the characteristics of remittance sending and remittance receiving persons. The research also explores the problems and possible potentials in effective uses of remittance for rural development through investment in productive sectors.

The main focus of this book is to examine married women's participation in the labour force in the state of Perak, in Malaysia. It starts with an overview of married women's participation in the labour force in Malaysia. Extensive data have been obtained from the married women. The results revealed that married women in the labour are facing challenges to balance responsibility between work and family. The biggest challenges they are facing in labour force with respect to child-bearing and child-rearing. Some women desire to leave their jobs willingly and return to family because of childbearing and other responsibilities. Conversely, they are concerned about their economic contribution to their families. Women's participation in the labor force has the significant impact on the overall development of the country. By giving the importance and demands of women's participation in the labour force, the book suggests the implication of family friendly policy and its' appropriate practice with respect to flexible time work arrangements that may provide to support to women as well as to increase their participation in the labour force.

The major objective of the study was to determine the impact of migration on the Nigeria labour market. In a country where jobs opportunities are lacking, unattractiveness of agricultural sector of the economy, industrialization is yet to take its full course, high level of institutional corruption and human rights abuses, religious and ethic conflicts, high population growth, wide gap of inequality, majority of the population is living below poverty line etc. Both Internal and International migration are necessary as they help in reducing the pressure on the Nigeria labour market, but movement of highly skilled workers in large numbers have resulted in a 'brain drain' in the country. While the remittances help to redistribute resources and alleviate poverty within the regions. Skills and experienced acquired from the receiving areas can be transferred home either in temporally basis or permanently when migrants visit or return home. These put together will enhanced the socio-economic development and reduce its imbalances in the country.

Since the discovery and exploitation of minerals like gold, diamond and copper in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Malawi has played the role of a labour supplier. Malawians were attracted by the relatively higher wages obtaining in the South African mines up to the period of the decline in mine migrancy at the end of the 1980s. Following this decline, a cross-section of Malawians continued to emigrate to South Africa to seek various jobs in the burgeoning informal sector and also for trade purposes. Migration from Malawi to South Africa sheds light on the problems that labour migrants and traders encounter as they are ‘toing’ and ‘froing’ between Malawi and South Africa in pursuit of their respective goals. It shows that migration, which initially was exclusively done for wage employment, is becoming more complex by the day. This is a result of the infusion of elements of commercial migration, smuggling and human trafficking. The book advances the argument that the numbers of migrants to South Africa increased in the post-1994 period partly as a result of mal-administration by the successive democratically-elected governments in Malawi. This development weakened Malawi’s otherwise promising economy and impoverished the rural masses. The book ‘sees’ forlorn hope in the future of labour migrants and traders, unless the Malawi Government starts to genuinely have the welfare of the populace at heart! The book is relevant and...

Bonding with your child is one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have as a parent. Although fathering has its share of challenges, it is worth the work to see your child evolve under your leadership. There are no difficult children, just difficult situations. However, these can be managed if we apply the correct methods. Children need cultivation and care from their fathers in this ever-changing society. They are a faced with many challenges. Unfortunately, many young children and teenagers are attempting to navigate their lives apart from the influence of their fathers. One of the reasons is due to a disconnect with their fathers. This stems from a breakdown or collapse in the relationship. However, all is not lost because From One Father to Another is a timeless blueprint that will help fathers meet the demands of parenting. The book offers a fundamental approach to fathering and provides practical insight into the areas of communication, affirmation, emotional well-being, and preparation, which are essential for child development. The message of the book is riveting! It reaches to the core of parenthood to help fathers achieve the necessary skills to grow a healthy and lasting relationship with their children.

Document from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: 9, , language: English, abstract: Currently in India we are observing that the number of labours are shifting from agriculture sector to other sectors of economy. The labour transition occurs due to several reasons one of the main reason is that the fixed wage rate in other sectors as compared to agriculture sector. In this context the Lewis model provides a good framework for explaining the ways in which the fruits of economic development are spread. Lewis divided developing economy into two sectors: subsistence and capital sector. He assumed that the subsistence sector was characterised by surplus labour and low real wages whereas capital sector characterised by capital intensive production and higher real wages. If we transfer excess labour from agriculture to capital sector it will not affect the production and productivity of subsistence sector and it will increase the production in capital sector which will help in development of economy. Lewis' model is mainly applicable surplus labour countries. If we take the example of China, Africa, Cambodia and Vietnam which have evidenced the Lewis model we can compare the India with those countries .China, Africa, Cambodia and Vietnam were gone through enormous labour transition which helped in the development of economy of the respective countries. What followed was a period of upheaval which caused the rethinking of many immigration policies. Using top-level county cricket in England as a case study, this book attempts to show how immigration policies could be redrawn in light of the new interpretation of the Agreement. The subsequent changes in the labour law landscape show the ever-shifting nature of the discipline, and this book attempts to draw conclusions which can be used in the future formulation of immigration policies.

The chronic shortage of labour in Kerala and the resultant higher wage rates received the attention among the workers from other states and they began to move to Kerala in search of work. This has opened a new era of replacement migration to Kerala. This led to the state again become an in-migrating state after a break of about 60 years since the 1960s. Though initially the in-migrants in Kerala were from the neighbouring states like Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh mostly seasonal and short-duration migration, at a later period the state started getting migrants from far distant states. This book analyzes the working, living and economic conditions of in-migrant workers, the expenditure pattern of in-migrants and also examine the factors that influence the amount of remittances send back to their left behind. The analysis is based on data from a sample of 109 in-migrants workers in the Mannarkkad Panchayat, Palakkad District. While existing studies on in-migration in Kerala provide evidences for short distance migration from nearby states to Kerala, This study observed the long distance migration from far distant states.

Rural-urban migration is becoming a common phenomenon in developing countries. This phenomenon invariably overstretch urban infrastructures. Urban influx is unlikely to cease despite of few employment opportunities available in cities. The main cause of these urban movements is rural poverty. The nature and patterns of these movement may slightly differ across different rural communities due to cultural variations. This book essentially give an in-depth analysis of migration pattern among Maasai in Tanzania, whose livelihood is based greatly on pastoralism. It tries to relate migration theories and the way in which Maasai as a marginalised group tries to utilize and respond to rural-urban dynamics. The central argument in this text is to situate migration as a possible survival or livelihood strategy among pastoral communities. The book has scholarly approach yet quite illuminating for all readers with interest in developmental issues in poor countries.

Combining perspectives from academics and practitioners, the volume is filled with thought-provoking insights into the nature of current programmatic interventions for independent child migrants. It further invites critical reflection on the complex socio-economic, political, and cultural contexts in which migration decisions are taken. Contributors recognize that independent child migrants, despite vulnerabilities, are active decision-makers in determining movement, responding to violent and discriminatory situations, resisting stereotypical assumptions, and figuring out integration and life choices as these are shaped by existing structural opportunities and constraints. This is the 136th volume in this series. Its mission is to provide scientific and scholarly presentations on cutting edge issues and concepts in child and adolescent development. This study analyzes the influence of inter-religious marriage and differing levels of church attendance within a married couple on migration behavior. We hypothesize that the propensity for migration is higher for inter-faith couples than for couples with the same religion and for couples who attend church at different frequencies. Largely, this research, as well as research on other differences between husbands and wives, indicates that inter-group married couples have higher migration rates than intra-groups couples. Data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth in 1979 was used to analyze the relationships between these aspects of religious identities and migration, and between church attendance and migration. Other determines utilized were age, education, and length of residence. Results actually show slightly lower migration odds for inter-group couples than for intra-group couples.

Puerto Rico is often left out of conversations on migration and transnationalism within the Latino context. Sponsored Migration: The State and Puerto Rican Postwar Migration to the United States by Edgardo Meléndez seeks to rectify this oversight, serving as a comprehensive study of the factors affecting Puerto Rican migration to the United States from the late 1940s to the 1960s. Examining the consequences of the perceived problem of Puerto Rican overpopulation as well as the cost of U.S. imperialism on the lives of Puerto Rican workers, Meléndez scrutinizes Puerto Rican migration in the postwar period as a microcosm of the political history of migration throughout Latin America. Sponsored Migration places Puerto Rico's migration policy in its historical context, examining the central role the Puerto Rican government played in encouraging and organizing migration during the postwar period. Meléndez sheds an important new light on the many ways in which the government intervened in the movement of its people: attempting to provide labor to U.S. agriculture, incorporating migrants into places like New York City, seeking to expand the island's air transportation infrastructure, and even promoting migration in the public school system. One of the first scholars to explore this topic in depth, Meléndez illuminates how migration influenced U.S. and Puerto Rican relations from 1898 onward.

It is also a manifestation of the trials and tribulations Africans met at the hands of their colonisers. The book can also be used to examine labour mobilization in other sectors of the economy. The case study of tea is interesting as it is a labour-intensive crop. As such labour on tea plantations has to be readily available, at all times and at all cost. Nevertheless, Africans as people on the receiving end devised means and ways of outdoing the system. Read on.

With this in mind, OSSREA's invitation to conduct a study on international migration in Africa had the following objectives: To analyze the nature and type of South-South migration, focusing on issues, such as brain gain and/or brain drain, remittance flows, technical know-how transfers, violations of the right of African migrants and gender dimensions of migration; To investigate the dynamics of migration from Eastern and Southern Africa to the Arab Gulf States as well as to developed countries, focusing on the skills of migrants, brain gain and/or drain, remittance flows, technical know-how transfers, violations of the rights of African migrants and gender dimension of migrants; and to assess the successes, impediments and challenges of African international migrants from Eastern and Southern Africa and to formulate policy recommendations to maximize the gains and minimize the costs associated with international migration in Africa.

Essay from the year 2016 in the subject Theology - Miscellaneous, , course: Private Research, language: English, abstract: As a participant of the course "People and faiths on the move" at the Ecumenical Institute Bossey in July 2016, the author of this paper was inspired by the message of the course, which focused on migration, to write down this perspective on migration within Christianity with focus on the time of the New Testament and particularly just before and immediately after the life of Jesus Christ. In looking at the issue of how people have moved from place to place over the years in search of either a means of survival or a god, this theme anchors strongly on how we can better view some religious experiences of today. It can be seen clearly that there is surely no one faith that does not have in its structure some issues regarding migration. It is either some members of the faith or some items that had been forced to leave or willingly left a certain place to another for some reasons. It is worth noting that the way we will treat the issue of migration here may remain unsatisfactory to others since this paper will also dare into the spiritual dimension of migration. Migration therefore would be viewed here bearing in mind the three angles, being: internal, external and spiritual migrations. This paper does not desire to view Migration only as a movement from one country to the other but also as a movement within the same national territory and as involving ...

The literature on migration realities in Europe is usually centered around the role played by the EU on member states' migration policies. In order to offer a comparative cross-country approach, previous research often allows too much to fall through the cracks. Facets of Migration in Contemporary Europe: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Specific Challenges directly addresses this issue. Through its multidisciplinary approach, it includes contributions ranging from policy-oriented chapters dedicated to the role of low-skilled and 'illegal' migrants to the securitization of migration in Europe as well as the role of Diasporas and language policies for the integration of migrants. The central theme of the volume is that experiences of migration in Western European countries can help the emerging countries of immigration in Central and Eastern Europe to improve their migration policies and living conditions.

The Economics of International Migration is a collection of the fundamental articles written by Giovanni Peri on the economic determinants and consequences of international migration. These papers have provided the theoretical framework and empirical analysis for a rethinking of the economics of migration, going beyond the Canonical model of labor demand and supply used until the 1990s. Beginning with a simple model that recognizes the differences between immigrants and natives as workers, the articles develop the analysis of complementarity, specialization and productivity effect of immigrants in developed economies. The book then presents a series of papers analyzing and testing the economic motivation for international migration. Finally, the focus is shifted to the effect of immigration policies and their consequences on immigration and the economy.

"This book provides very rich material on long-term experiences of Arab migrants abroad and contributes to the literature on migration and Arab disasporas." · JRAIMost studies on transnational migration either stress assimilation, circulatory migration, or the negative impact of migration. This remarkable study, which covers migrants from one Jordanian village to 17 different countries in Europe, Asia, and North America, emphasizes the resiliency of transnational migrants after long periods of absence, social encapsulation, and stress, and their ability to construct social networks and reinterpret traditions in such a way as to mix the old and the new in a scenario that incorporates both worlds. Focusing on the humanistic aspects of the migration experience, this book examines questions such as birth control, women's work, retention of tribal law, and the changing attitudes of migrants towards themselves, their families, their home communities, and their nation. It ends with placing transnational migration from Jordan in a cross-cultural perspective by comparing it with similar processes elsewhere, and critically reviews a number of theoretical perspectives that have been used to explain migration.Richard T. The book provides an analysis of the effect of migration on the empowerment of women in traditionally patriarchal societies in three Western Balkan countries: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Macedonia. The study focuses on the household unit and examines the positions of women with and without migration experience in their families. Research findings suggest that the effect of migration on the empowerment of women in three selected dimensions (socio-cultural, economic and domestic decision making) depends crucially on the personal ability of each individual woman to consider the migration experience in light of the complex interface of socio-economic factors in both home and host countries.

Overall, the book has a far higher degree of thematic coherence and development than most anthologies on global migration....Highly recommended." · ChoiceInternational migration is high on the public and political agenda of many countries, as the movement of people raises concerns while often eluding states' attempts at regulation. In this context, the 'Migration Without Borders' scenario challenges conventional views on the need to control and restrict migration flows and brings a fresh perspective to contemporary debates. This book explores the analytical issues raised by 'open borders', in terms of ethics, human rights, economic development, politics, social cohesion and welfare, and provides in-depth empirical investigations of how free movement is addressed and governed in Europe, Africa, the Americas and Asia. By introducing and discussing the possibility of a right to mobility, it calls for an opening, not only of national borders, but also of the eyes and minds of all those interested in the future of international migration in a globalising world.Antoine Pécoud holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from Oxford University and has been affilia...

With the increasing worldwide problems of migration, research into its causes and effects become every more urgent. This volume takes stock of recent advancements that social science research in both Europe and the United States has made to understanding central aspects of international migration. The focus is on conceptual, methodological, and theoretical contributions that have emerged out of empirical research with regard to state policies and interests toward migration, dual citizenship, incorporation, transnational ties, entrepreneurship, illegal migration, intergenerational incorporation, and religion. No other publication brings the scholarship together in a similarly comprehensive manner, showing how the different approaches on each continent complement and speak to one another, thus contributing to the internationalization of migration studies.Alejandro Portes is Howard Harrison and Gabrielle Snyder Beck Professor of Sociology and director of the Center for Migration and Development at Princeton University. This book covers the problem of process migration on grid computing environments. The rescheduling technique is useful for providing dynamic load rebalancing among the available resources. Good migration politics must be used for both improving resource utilization and minimizing the application execution time. Besides discussions about load balancing and scheduling, this book presents a rescheduling model called MigBSP which controls the process migration on Bulk-Synchronous Parallel (BSP) applications. The BSP model was adopted because round-based computations represent a common style for written successfully parallel programs. MigBSP answers the following questions regarding process migration: a) When to launch the rescheduling; b) Which are the candidates for migration; c) Where to put the elected processes for migration. These questions are solved by determining the Potential of Migration (PM) of each process. PM represents the differential idea of MigBSP and combines data from Computation, Communication and Memory metrics. The results show performance improvements in the application time and affirm the migration mechanism as a key technique for platforms like grids.

Contrary to ingrained academic and public assumptions, wherein indigenous lowland South American societies are viewed as the product of historical emplacement and spatial stasis, there is widespread evidence to suggest that migration and displacement have been the norm, and not the exception. This original and thought-provoking collection of case studies examines some of the ways in which migration, and the concomitant processes of ecological and social change, have shaped and continue to shape human-environment relations in Amazonia. Drawing on a wide range of historical time frames (from pre-conquest times to the present) and ethnographic contexts, different chapters examine the complex and important links between migration and the classification, management, and domestication of plants and landscapes, as well as the incorporation and transformation of environmental knowledge, practices, ideologies and identities.

The financial crisis in 2008 has gone but its affection still left the EU a disaster behind for example: Greece with highest record government debt, Spain and Portugal with the alarm rate of unemployment and Italy with a red inflation. The German economy is however a good exception. Its industrialization has well developed and brought a positive GDP and a number of job to the labour market. This number of job has grown rapidly that created its own excess labour demand situation. It is now addressed as an serious issue, which will escalate in the next decade. Germany needs urgent additional manpower. Labour immigration is one of their best option. But lets not the immigration history repeating, like the Turkish labour immigrants in the BDR 1960s incidence or the mistreated Vietnamese guest workers in the GDR 1980s. A well-organized integration plan is also what it needs. Therefore I suggest the suitable approaches from the macro and micro aspects such as: combine the international economic relations (labour as main factor) with regional economic long term development (effective productivity as main purpose). Managing the cross culture issue is also very important: respecting each nation and recognizing each identity. The main purpose of this book is to prove that the labour immigration is the right solution for Germany and the right approaches.

Cities, in contrast, are known to be places where money, services and wealth are centralized. Cities are where fortunes are made and where social mobility is possible. This paper analyzes unemployment and underemployment in a country of LDCs within a qualitative adjustment framework. Four extensions it has been made including allowances for more generalized job-search behavior, why people force to migrate, Difficulty of adaptation and adjustment with the city and Survival strategies of the migrants. The result of these modifications is a much lower predicted unemployment rate, which accords more closely with actual observations. Immigration into Europe has always been at the center of agenda of the EU. With the candidacy of Turkey, the issue of immigration is being discussed at an accelerating rate. That is why this paper aims to understand the dynamics behind the prospective Turkish migration into EU after membership and to provide a sound basis for its complicated nature. In order to do that, different theories of migration have been categorized at different levels of approaches and analyzed to understand the reasons for migration. To set the relationship between theory and reality of migration, the statistics on countries that joined the EU in 2004 and 2007 have been used. After identifying the reasons why citizens of these new member states migrate, the prospective Turkish migration has been analyzed accordingly. It has been found out that the reasons for Turkish migration will be mostly the same as those for new member states' citizens. As a result of this, it has been concluded that the prospective Turkish migration will be so diverse and complicated and that the direction of migration will not only be from Turkey to Europe but also from Europe to Turkey.

Since the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the beginning of the war in Donbas, Eastern Europe has been facing a migration crisis. Millions of Ukrainians are internally displaced or have fled the country and now face an uncertain future. At the same time, Western-imposed sanctions and the creation of the Eurasian Economic Union have affected Russia’s migration policies. These largely ignored processes have a potential to change the social landscape of the region for many years to come. The aim of this collection is to shed light on the forgotten migrant crisis at the European Union’s doorstep and make sense of the various migration processes in and out of Ukraine and Russia. The book is divided into two sections. The first section deals with migration processes that have taken place within Ukraine or have involved Ukrainian citizens’ migration out of the country, excluding Russia. The second section discusses Russia’s response to the rapid inflow of migrants from Ukraine, its changing migration policies and their effect on migrants, as well as other processes related to the phenomenon over the course of the Ukraine crisis.ContributorsTania Bulakh, Mikhail Denisenko, Joanna Fomina, Michael Gentile, Kateryna Ivashchenko-Stadnik, Marina A. An important trend in large number of theoretical and empirical studies on the functioning of rural labour markets has been appeared to explain the patterns of income, employment, extent of earning and indebtedness prevalent among these households. This book analyzes the trend in wages, inter-district and intra-district differences in wage rate and gender differences among the rural agricultural labour households in rural Orissa with a view to understand their livelihood pattern. The book also analyzes pattern of employment, income, extent of indebtedness and earning prevalent among rural landless labourers and agricultural households in rural Orissa. Further, the book discusses the prevailing contractual arrangement of the rural labour market. This book would be very useful for students, academicians, researchers, activists and policy makers for understanding the dynamics of rural labour market, wage determination, livelihood pattern and development.
