The development and spread of the Internet technology across the globe has fomented the use of a wide range of internet based social and commercial services. For instance, social networks like the Face book, the Twitter, The Picasa, LinkedIn, Tagged, .etc and commercial services as in the case of Amazon.com and the eBay online sellers are few of the multitude of online internet services available on various websites(UNCTAD,2013). Besides, governments are using the internet for divergent purposes the central use being for the provision of public services for the general public including electronic payment of bills and electronic taxation. Various Banks also apply the internet technology to provide facility for electronic payment systems across borders (Ibid). Virtually all types of business enterprises (including Large Size Enterprises, Small and Medium Size enterprises), the government and various consumers are engaged in cross-border e-commerce. All of these actors of Cross-Border E-Commerce(CBEC) demand all the facilities that make CBEC possible (e-commerce infrastructure) and a secure electronic business environment (E-commerce security) for any kind of transactions they make based on the internet medium (Ibid). Despite such demand for e-commerce infrastructure and e-commerce security by the actors of CBEC, the general trend of using the internet for e-commerce particularly CBEC is increasing at an increasing rate (Ibid). There are overhanging problems of regulating CBEC a...

Vitamins are a group of physiologically very important, chemically quite complex organic compounds, that are essential for humans and animals. Some vitamins and other growth factors behave as antioxidants, while some can be considered as biopigments. As their chemical synthesis is laborious, their biotechnology-based synthesis and production via microbial fermentation has gained substantial interest within the last decades. Recent progress in microbial genetics and in metabolic engineering and implementation of innovative bioprocess technology has led to a biotechnology-based industrial production of many vitamins and related compounds. Divided into three sections, this volume covers: 1. water-soluble vitamins 2. fat-soluble vitamin compounds and 3. other growth factors, biopigments, and antioxidants. They are all reviewed systematically: from natural occurrence and assays, via biosynthesis, strain development, to industrially-employed biotechnological syntheses and applications.

The data series were tested for stationarity using the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test as the starting point to assess the order of integration with the aid of econometric views (E-view version 3.1) and two multiple regression models were estimated using ordinary least square method. Based on the findings of this study, physical capital, labour force and human capital were significant factors determine growth in Nigeria over time.

Currently civil service reform program is undergoing in Ethiopia. The main element of the reform program is delivering efficient and effective service to the public. In this regard there are some public institutions that are successful in satisfying their customers by implementing the reform program. On the contrary there are others still not successful. Therefore the major public service delivery factors that were suggested by different researchers and scholars are tested using case study method in this work. Two public organizations are selected i.e. one from the category of successful once and the other from those who are not successful based on the previous researches and preliminary assessments. By designing the conceptual framework, the public service delivery success factors are identified scientifically. Marlene Bleicher Can Endogenous Growth Theories Explain Growth in South Tyrol and Luxembourg.

Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Economics - Economic Cycle and Growth, grade: 1,0, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (Faculty of Economics & Management), language: English, abstract: This thesis analyzes the two economies of South Tyrol and Luxembourg, questioning whether their economic growth can be explained by concepts of endogenous growth theories.South Tyrol and Luxembourg are two quite similar economies in terms of size, population, cultural diversity and scarcity of natural resources, but yet very different in matters of economic growth, income per capita and economic specialization, which makes them an interesting sample to test for growth factors. Since endogenous growth theories, in contrast to neoclassical conceptions, provide a much broader range of tools to handle endogenous technological change, innovation and other factors, they are better suited to analyze growth factors. Therefore, this thesis first draws a summary on the evolution of endogenous growth theories including an outline of the most important contributions. It is shown that the factor "human capital" plays a major role in most models. Subsequently, the second part of the thesis deals with the economies of South Tyrol and Luxembourg in detail, evaluates historical economic growth, identifies tourism and financial intermediation as their main driving forces and asks whether human capital could be the moving power behind them. The method of choice for measuring is the co...

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: The title of this thesis might lead the cursory reader to the assumption that this is another one of countless academic works whose authors have overestimated the prospects of the Internet. However, this paper lays claim to be one of the early few that take a more rational approach to the subject by analyzing the realistic profit potential of online business models. Furthermore, future success factors for finance portals will be discussed and their respective value proposition thoroughly examined. Since the fast moving Internet hype has had to give way to an almost equally swift consolidation of the market, this will prove to be crucial information for any company of the finance industry. Additionally, when taking into account that the oncoming ‘second wave of customers’ is to be divided amongst the remaining online players, the findings of this thesis will be of eminent relevance for any provider of a financial website. Towards the end of my internship with AOL I was asked to research the required success factors for finance portals as a basis for AOL’s finance channel content strategy. Inexperienced Internet-users such as those of the Second Wave are likely to utilize the user-friendly and convenient service of AOL as an ISP. Therefore, it will be of vital importance for AOL to incorporate the above mentioned success factors within their service in order to increase the usage of its finance channel. At this point I would like to thank AOL, not only f...

Corporate customers and Internet banking has been studied very modestly in the past, and especially the decision-making factors driving customers to go online. The purpose of this research is to identify the factors that influence corporate customers adoption of Internet banking services in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda. The hypotheses are empirically evaluated by using Trade Finance customers of an East African bank as the target sample.Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is the primary basis for the study. The information gathered from former studies that are mainly concentrating on private customer acts as a foundation for building an extension of TAM suitable for corporate customers.Due to the quantitative nature of the study, the results are analysed with statistical measures. The analysis reveals that corporate users are not motivated by the same factors as private users. In order to become Internet banking customers, it is extremely important for corporate users to have a system that is easy to use and operate with full support from the bank.

In order to fulfill this, 60 questionnaires were randomly given out on GIC campus and in front of GU library to obtain both qualitative and quantitative data, and the main findings of this research suggest that (1) location of banks and service fees are the most important positive factors for students to consider; (2) unreasonable charges and irresponsible staff could bring them some dissatisfaction. Furthermore, it is hoped that future studies could find more appropriate approaches to handle negative factors for banks based on this research. Measures, such as enhancing reputation and reducing service fees and overdraft fees for banks would be recommended based on the analysis in the conclusion.

The study aims at exploring the experiences of lecturers and students in the use of the Internet as a resource to facilitate teaching & learning at a University of technology. The Internet as a means of communication and interaction seems to have had a tremendous contribution to the economic, social, educational growth and other sectors of society in the world for the past two decades (Bon,2007). In a world with a global population of 6.767 billion people, Internet users alone are 1.733 billion with a growth rate of 380.3% between 2000 and 2009(Internet World Stats,2009). This growth rate shows the extent to which the Internet is being used. The various studies from the literature review reveal that the Internet has been used by lecturers and students to motivate, collaborate, facilitate and communicate with each other and this has led to improved teaching and learning (Cottrill,2005; Pritchard,2004; Egarievwe, et al.,2000; Meyer, Cronje & Eloff,2007). The findings of this study reveal that the usage of the Internet has helped lecturers & students to improve communication and interaction through sharing of ideas, opinions and thoughts using discussion forums, team work & live chat.

Roshanak Safavi Usability of E-commerce Websites and systems

E-commerce, today, is a part of human communication and social system, though technical aspects of E-commerce systems are important, there are also social variables which should come to consideration, so any E-commerce system can be viewed from two main view points; Technical and Human/Social. Pure technical solutions can not lead to a successful E-commerce. In order to maximize revenue from online trade, companies must have a usable E-commerce systems and websites, which give customers a real and convenient shopping experience and good customer service. If an E-commerce system supports all the factors mentioned above, it can satisfy customers and persuade them to buy online again. It is not easy to create and maintain a system and website which satisfy customers and makes them loyal, but in the case of fulfilling this goal, satisfied users may spend longer time at website, may revisit website later and also may recommend the website to others. The main issue is how to create such a systems and websites which considered being useable. The objective of research is to evaluate variables, both technical and human/social, affecting usability of systems from customers' point of view.

Six Billion Shoppers

From China to India to Nigeria, e-commerce is entering a golden era in countries that were long left out of the e-commerce gold rush experienced in the West. If the story of the first twenty years of e-commerce’s growth was set in developed markets, the story of the next twenty years will be set in emerging ones. The rise of e-commerce in emerging markets is being driven by three major trends: widespread internet adoption, a rising middle class, and, most importantly, innovative new business models that serve the needs of local customers better than the models used by western e-commerce giants. Travelling through Nigeria, China, India, Southeast Asia and Latin America, Porter Erisman addresses e-commerce across these new markets and what it means for western brands. He argues that e-commerce in developing countries is revolutionary and will play a much larger role in emerging markets than in the West. With e-commerce in emerging markets entering a rapid period of expansion, Six Billion Shoppers explains how to seize the massive opportunity created by emerging market consumers and provides practical advice on how to ride this new business trend.

All web-oriented firms can benefit from this strategy with full understanding of its mechanism and strategic planning. However, in spite of this fact, in developing markets the state of understanding and managerial attention to this context is still at a low level which negatively affects the strategic development of e-commerce in the society as a whole system. For instance in Malaysia, although e-commerce is being applied, but there is no prior work devoted to affiliate marketing of service SMEs in particular ICT sector firms. This lack of knowledge in the literature poses a challenge for decision makers and policy implementers.

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Electronic Commerce, once thought of as futuristic buzzwords, is becoming a commonly used term. International newspapers, magazines, and the electronic media mention at least some forecast or news related to this subject on a daily basis. Nevertheless, a look at the growing numbers of consulting companies, that offer a variety of services relating to Electronic Commerce reveals the immense uncertainty companies are experiencing about what exactly Electronic Commerce is, and how they can implement it. While it seems that the importance of this issue in the business environment is widely accepted in the US, a recent study from Andersen Consulting (Andersen, 1998) shows that among European senior executives only 19% regard Electronic Commerce as a serious competitive threat to their business. Furthermore, only 39% are taking steps today to incorporate Electronic Commerce into their current operational strategies. There is a number of factors contributing to the "wait-and-see" attitude taken by executives and consumers as well. Executives tend to view the rise of Electronic Commerce as an external business environment issue, while consumers are concerned about security issues. These are still common views in the US. In European countries, a cultural problem stemming from a slowly changing and stable business environment adds to that problem. Fear of failing by trying a new approach, in most cases, overshadows the willingness to take new risks. Neve...

Holger Löhr Price Parity Clauses on Internet Platform Markets

Master's Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Economics - Other, grade: 1,7, University of Marburg (Wirtschaftspolitik), course: Masterarbeit, language: English, abstract: Recent years have witnessed a remarkable increase in internet platform markets which have become the preferred venue of interaction amongst a growing number of buyers and sellers. The ability of the internet to enable sellers reach a greater number of consumers shows that there is a high potential for growth of the internet market, with effects on competition. Following a 2013 report by the German Antitrust Authority "Bundeskartellamt" on "Vertical Restraints on the Internet Economy", it is clear that the internet significantly reduces transaction costs and thus increases competition to the benefit of consumers. The increase in competition among sellers, producers and retailers has led to an adoption of different forms of vertical restrictions on internet platforms which have come under the scrutiny of antitrust authorities. This thesis aims to analyze vertical restraints on internet platform markets based on the investigation of Amazon.com, Inc. by the "Bundeskartellamt" for its use of a price parity clause. This clause was introduced in Germany and in the United Kingdom in 2010 in the contract between Amazon and sellers using its platform and prohibited them from setting lower prices on other platforms, including their own websites, than the prices they set on Amazon.

Mohammed L. Ahmadu International Procurement and Electronic Commerce in the South Pacific. Law and Practice

The South Pacific Rim, located in the Oceania region, is now more than ever before being rapidly integrated into the global economy. The forces of globalization, particularly information and communications technology are the driving factors. While the region is very well known as an exotic tourist destination, little is known about its laws and the potential facilitative commercial, trade and investment environment that exist in the region. International procurement and electronic commerce constitute one such important area. This book discusses international procurement and electronic commerce in the context of South Pacific island countries by illustrating the linkages between theory, law and practice. The book adopts a unique approach to discussing these issues by utilizing extensive case-study analyses which focus on internationally executed ICT-based supply and service contracts, as well as construction and works agreements. In addition, detailed treatment is given the UNCITRAL model law for procurement of goods, construction and services by depicting its relevance to Pacific island countries. The book specifically outlines the interconnection between conventional procurement contracts and traditional customary practices- an important consideration because of the impact of local traditions even on the constitutions of countries of the region. Lastly, the book examines the advancement of digital technology and the role this can play in the overall commercial development of...

Lars Merle, Tobias Schachner Designing a new industry award for service excellence competition in retailing

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: This thesis resolves the need for an industry award for service excellence in retailing, based on a comprehensive framework to foster management quality. A service excellence framework is developed and the design for a new service excellence award is proposed. The proposed framework is based on the Industrial Excellence Award. In addition to the original four fundamental processes a fifth component is introduced: the customer. To complete the framework, the seven components of management quality known from the IEA are adopted. This framework is the structure for the self-assessment questionnaire that will be the core of the new „Best Retailer” service excellence award. Through an extensive literature review, success factors and empirically tested items for questionnaires were identified and assigned to the corresponding sections in the questionnaire. The result is a collection of questions that - if appropriately considered by management – can help introducing service excellence in the retailing industry. The modus operandi of a possible future award competition is suggested to stay close the example of the IEA in order to leverage the existing brand. This should help to popularize the new award, to create outstanding showcases quickly, and to disseminate excellent management quality in the industry. Diploma Thesis from the year 2007 in the subject Business economics - Economic Policy, grade: 1,5, Technical University of Ilmenau (Institut für Wirtschaftswissenschaften), 43 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: This paper discusses the relevance of Information and CommunicationTechnologies (ICT) for economic growth in developing economies. By reviewing thecontributions from the neoclassical and endogenous growth theory and empiricevidences for the link between ICT and economic growth, the paper clearly concludesthat ICTs facilitate economic growth, principally by providing incentives for capitaldeepening and increasing productivity through rapid technological progress. However, the impact on growth is more extensive from the long-term ICT use and networking that though requires appropriate ICT investment and complementary efforts in order that spillovers and productivity improvements are triggered and exploited totally. This paper derives the key determinants and interacting factors that, in the corresponding correct synergic combination, promote ICT's impact on growth-generating processes. For a variety of reasons, the states of these factors in developing countries provide a less ICT favourable environment for taking advantage from ICTs. These economies exhibit a lower stock of human capacities and per capita capital to trigger the productivity benefits from the ICT use. Therefore, the level of effort is higher than in the developed world to receive...

Seminar paper from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: 2,3, University of Münster (Junior Professorship for Marketing), language: English, abstract: Service Quality is a field of marketing, which stimulated numerous scholars to do theoretical and empirical research on. The SERVQUAL concept first was amongst concepts like The Nordic Model by Grönroos (1984) and The Three-Component Model by Rust and Oliver (1994) and SERVPERF by Cronin and Taylor (1992). After there has been a major debate which role expectations should play for service quality, which primary dimensions should be used to conceptualize and measure it and how service quality has to be integrated in existing marketing theory, newer approaches concentrate either on the depth of these dimensions, further optimization of the integration of service quality into marketing theory or specific factors which might play a role on distinct settings. In a multilevel approach, primary dimensions can be understood as direct antecedents of service quality. Subdimensions are antecedents of the primary dimensions of service quality. This paper deals with the issue, how customer perceived service quality (CPSQ) is supposed to be conceptualized and measured. In order to do this, the first section begins simply with several ideas that came up in literature what factors might influence service quality and how it can be defined. Then the paper i...

Chih-Hsien Chen, Chyi Jaw, Bo-Xun Xiao Measuring Service Innovation Performance - Measuring Service Innovation Performance by Diffusion Model. Empirical Evidence on New Festivals of Tourism

It is not easy to protect an unique service by regulation and patent because of the service characteristics. Service firms just only develop innovations continually to define and extend their market. Specially, the growth of some service industries (e.g. tourism) is limited by the once consumption which is difficult to repeat in short duration. The weakness has pushed these service industries to stimulate the new consumption by continual innovations which need many resources. But the ambiguous performance of service innovation could not prove the reasonableness of resource allocation. This study tries to measure new service diffusion as innovation performance in order to help evaluate the innovation decision in service industry.

Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Economics - Macro-economics, general, grade: A3, Hacettepe University (Department of Economics), course: International Political Economy, language: English, abstract: Growth economics is the branch of economics answering questions related to what are determinants of economic growth; whether is it possible to reach a maintainable growth rate on the long run, if it is preferable to let governments interfere in market performance in order to fasten rates of economic growth. Harrod and Domar attempted to answer these questions through applying Keynes economics for economic analysis. They found that savings and investments stable rates are the key for rapid long term growth especially in developing countries. Therefore, government intervention was needed to help stimulate savings and investments. Years later, Solow and Swan attempted to answer same questions through their neoclassical growth model. In this model, it was assumed that a maintained rising saving rates leads to transition from slow growth into fast growth path. This meant a focus on technological progress. However, part of the growth was not explained by growth in production factors which are capital and labor. Solow stated that this unexplained factor was the residual or total factor productivity. Therefore, government policies were assumed to be effective on aggregate output not on growth rates.

The scientific fish culture in India aims at a high rate of the survival and production of spawn, fry, fingerlings and table sized fish. The aim is achieved by fertilization of the ponds and by providing supplementary feeding to the fish stocks. But, in intensive fish culture systems where the density of spawn, fry and fingerlings per unit water area is kept very high the proteins and certain other nutrients become growth limiting factors. Present study analyzes the effects of various dietary proteins commonly used in the culture practices, on the growth and survival of the common carp spawn.

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Economics - Innovation economics, grade: 1,3, University of Wuppertal (Jean Monnet Chair for European Economic Integration), language: English, abstract: The elementary technology the "Internet" enabled the fourth industrial revolution. It changed the way people work. The collaboration in server-clouds and the so-called "Internet of Things" allows even machines to interact. Many questions are still unsolved, e.g. the key technologies or their impact on the economic growth of economics. Nowadays the transformation process is ongoing while the impact of this technological change is still unclear. The McKinsey consulting group estimates that just the internet accounts for 21 percent of the GDP growth in major economies over the past five years. Furthermore, researcher mention that the share of ICT capital is often underestimated. In real terms (evaluated in prices in 1995), the share of ICT was roughly twice as high, because of the continuously falling prices for ICT technologies and services. Fifteen years prior, the landscape internet-driven companies seemed to stop the growth path after the "Dotcom-Crash". Before, the expectations of immense productivity gains were higher than the possibilities of the technology. Also, the average employee was not ready to handle the challenges of digitalization, robotic and the pace of technological change. In 2017 digitalization and automatization literature provides a ...
