This book focuses on fabrication of ZnO/CdS optical sensor. Nanocrystalline ZnO/CdS core-shell optical sensors were fabricated by chemical bath deposition (CBD) method. Vertically aligned ZnO nanorods were firstly synthesized on silicon p-type (111) by CBD method with assist of microwave. The CdS were deposited on the ZnO nanorods to create core-shell structure by using CBD method with cadmium chloride (CdCl2) 0.15M as Cd2+ ion source at difference deposition time. ZnO nanorods were the core and CdS were the shell of this core-shell structure. The photoconductive testing was carried out to test this optical sensor light detection by shining ultraviolet (UV) light pulse on the devices. The devices affect the light absorption and have higher sensitivity to the light. The highest sensitivity reached 53% for the ZnO/CdS optical sensor while the ZnO optical sensor only 6.77% and ZnO/CdS can response to high frequency light pulse. The energy band gap of ZnO/CdS was also lowered to 3.3eV compared to ZnO, 3.38eV. These results demonstrate the existence of CdS has enhanced the ability and the properties of optical sensor compared to ZnO nanorods optical sensor alone.

This book reveals that phosphorous ions implantation in ZnO NWs is a successful approach towards the tailoring of P-type ZnO Nanowires.

Semiconductor clusters have one extraordinarily important property that on doping and on changes in size, their properties change appreciably and in a controllable way. Current research into semiconductor clusters is focused on the properties of thin films having nanometre range grain size. The wide range of optical and electrical properties of II-VI group compounds make them an important class of materials and competing candidates for silicon and other semiconductor materials in photovoltaic and optoelectronic applications. In this monograph, the structural, spectroscopic and optoelectronic properties of Cadmium Sulfide, Cadmium Telluride and Zinc Oxide thin films are studied in detail. The effects of substrate and grain size on structural and optical properties of these materials are also discussed. Moreover, the synthesis of CdS nanoparticles and fabrication of ZnO thin films by the sol-gel methods and their spectroscopic characterization are described. The ab-initio DFT calculations are carried for the computations of the DOS and band structures of the CdS hexagonal wurtzite, CdTe zinc blende and ZnO hexagonal wurtzite. Effect of Cd dopping in ZnO is also studied theoretically.

Chu Manh Hung Single Semiconductor Nanowires Studied by a Hard X-ray Nanoprobe

The work focuses on the investigation of single Co-implanted ZnO nanowires using X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques with a nanometer resolution. The ZnO nanowires (NWs) were grown on Si substrates using VLS mechanism. The synthesized ZnO NWs were doped with Co via an ion implantation process. For the first time, the combined use of these techniques allows us to study the dopant homogeneity, composition, short- and large-range structural order of single NWs. The nano-XRF results indicate the successful and homogeneous Co doping with the desired concentrations in the ZnO NWs by an ion implantation process. The nano-XAS and XRD data analyses provide new insights into the lattice distortions produced by the structural defect formation generated by the ion implantation process. These findings highlight the importance of the post-implantation thermal annealing to recover the structure of single ZnO NWs at the nanometer length scale. In general, the methodologies used in this work open new avenues for the application of synchrotron based multi-techniques for detailed study of single semiconductor NWs at the nanoscale.

The objective of the present investigation is to synthesis, structural, spectroscopic and magnetic properties of transition metal ions doped ZnO nanopowders by solid state reaction with sonochemical assistance. The synthesized powders are characterized by XRD, SEM, Optical absorption, PL, FT-IR, EPR and VSM techniques.

In this book, the two model families: marginal, and random effect models that take the correlation among measurements of the same subject into account were briefly discussed using real datasets. In case of marginal models the correlated nature of the data is taken into account inside the estimating equation, while for random effects model it is done through the random effect part. In the random effect approach the goal is to determine subject-specific changes over the courses of the study, while in the marginal model the emphasis is to determine the overall change. Joint modeling approaches that used to model different outcomes jointly, and model selection and diagnosis measures were discussed briefly. Moreover, SAS codes used in the analysis for each model type were included in book.

Diploma Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject Economics - Statistics and Methods, grade: 1,3, University of Tubingen, language: English, abstract: Rating agencies play an important role on the capital markets; however, during the financial crisis 2007-2009 people began to question how good their assessments of credit quality really are. In my study, I empirically examine the effect of rating announcements from Standard & Poor's on the Credit Default Swap (CDS) Market. It contributes to the field of rating agencies' performance measurement. Based on Event Study Methodology and recent CDS data, I detect virtually no significant abnormal spreadchange at the announcement date neither for downgrades nor upgrades. However, the CDS show some anticipation prior to the event especially for downgradings. Considering the rating date, I find evidence for an asymmetric reaction where downgrades cause stronger movement in the spreads. As a result, it seems as if rating changes do not convey a great part of new information to the markets. At the same time, the significant anticipation indicates that the CDS market processes information more efficiently.

Recrystallization has been extensively utilized for variety of materials to modify the microstructure and achieving desired mechanical properties. Therefore, characterization of recrystallization is an important aspect. However, most of the existing characterization techniques are either not in-situ in nature or too complex. In the present work, a novel method of spline-based isogeometric approximation and robust numerical differentiation has been originated and employed to the in-situ resistivity data to characterize recrystallization. It has been shown that this method is able to reveal the elusive effects of recrystallization from the in-situ electrical resistivity measurements. An extensive experimental work on Al-Mg and Al-Mg-Fe-Mn alloys, which are extensively used in automotive industry, showed that this method is sensitive, reliable, accurate and efficient. An extensive literature on the recrystallization and related phenomena, resistivity measurements and cubic splines has also been provided in the book. This work should be useful to the people involved in research and development activities, especially characterization of materials, in industry as well as academia.

The VEPs represent electrical activity of large populations of neurons in the visual cortex and test the function of the visual pathway from the retina to the occipital cortex. Visual evoked potentials are massed electrical signals generated by occipital cortical areas in response to visual stimulation. Evoked potential techniques are noninvasive and have excellent temporal resolution, thus permitting the study of dynamic changes occurring in the nervous system. The evoked electrophysiological potential of VEP can be extracted using signal averaging from the electroencephalographic activity recorded at the scalp. VEPs can be used to assess the integrity or maturational state of the visual pathway in infants and preverbal children. The VEP responses have been worked out for adult population. However, in children the recording is difficult and their normatives are not consistent across the studies. The effect of age on children VEP is even less worked out. Therefore, this study is an attempt to document VEP responses among children population from 0.5 years to 7 years. This study is likely to produce a preliminary normative for the children and a pattern of effect of age on VEP.

Nanoestruturas orientadas de ZnO foram crescidas na forma de filme sobre a camada de nucleação usando síntese hidrotermal. Com um estudo detalhado da utilização de diferentes precursores para obtenção de ZnO, foi possível obter diferentes morfologias de ZnO por síntese hidro termal, tanto em forma de pó, como crescidas orientadas sobre a camada de nucleação depositada sobre diferentes substratos. As propriedades morfológicas, estruturais e ópticas da camada de nucleação e dos filmes porosos de ZnO foram caracterizadas pelo uso das técnicas de FEG- SEM, Difração de Raios X (DRX) e Espectroscopia por UV-Vis. Os resultados observados indicaram que os parâmetros usados para obter a camada de nucleação influenciaram na morfologia das nanoestruturas de ZnO crescidas por síntese hidrotermal. Amostras de ZnO com propriedades morfológicas consideradas promissoras para melhorar o transporte de carga e diminuir processos de recombinação de carga foram aplicadas como fotoeletrodos em CSSCs. A melhor eficiência obtida nas CSSCs foi de 0,83% com fotoeletrodos de ZnO com morfologia de nanoflores formadas por nanobastões, morfologia orientada e ramificada.

A finite-element model of a two-dimensional slice of human atrial tissue for the study of the electrograms and propagation of action potentials is presented. Action potential propagation is described by a reaction-diffusion model coupled with the complex Courtemanche et al. atrial cell model. The effects of recording electrode size and location on electrograms are presented. Action potential propagation as a result of atrial fibrillation ablation therapy is also modeled by defining a lesion area with decreased electrical conductivity. The effect of electrical conductivity and geometry of the lesion was also studied. It is shown that the success rate of atrial fibrillation ablation therapy is primarily correlated with the creation of continuous ablation lines and also the formation of fibrous tissue.

The obtained nano materials were characterized using XRD, PSA, FESEM, EDAX, TEM, FTIR, UV-VISIBLE and TG-DTA. The material applications were studied not only for self-cleaning nature using contact angle but also for anti-bacterial activity.

The purpose of the present study is to experimentally investigate and optimize the mould fabrication process, based on vacuum casting for plastic component. Starting from the identification of component, prototype with three different types of material were prepared under three different conditions of temperature, time and mixing ratio. Measurements on the coordinate measuring machine helped in calculating the dimensional tolerances of the plastic components produced. Further relation between hardness, dimensional accuracy and surface roughness in vacuum casting and other controllable parameter has been deduced by Taguchi technique L9 orthogonal array (OA). The study highlighted the optimized input parameter settings in-terms of dimensional accuracy, surface roughness, micro-hardness for plastic components. Final component produced are acceptable as per IS standard UNI EN 20286-I (1995) and DIN 16901 standards for plastics.

William Walker Atkinson (December 5, 1862 - November 22, 1932) was an attorney, merchant, publisher, and author, as well as an occultist and an American pioneer of the New Thought movement. He is also known to have been the author of the pseudonymous works attributed to Theron Q. Dumont and Yogi Ramacharaka. Atkinson pursued a business career from 1882 onwards and in 1894 he was admitted as an attorney to the Bar of Pennsylvania. While he gained much material success in his profession as a lawyer, the stress and over-strain eventually took its toll, and during this time he experienced a complete physical and mental breakdown, and financial disaster. He looked for healing and in the late 1880s he found it with New Thought, later attributing the restoration of his health, mental vigor and material prosperity to the application of the principles of New Thought.

This book – a sequel of previous publications ‘Flows and Chemical Reactions’, ‘Chemical Reactions Flows in Homogeneous Mixtures’ and ‘Chemical Reactions and Flows in Heterogeneous Mixtures’ – is devoted to flows with chemical reactions in the electromagnetic field. The first part, entitled basic equations, consists of four chapters. The first chapter provides an overview of the equations of electromagnetism in Minkowski spacetime. This presentation is extended to balance equations, first in homogeneous media unpolarized in the second chapter and homogeneous fluid medium polarized in the third chapter. Chapter four is devoted to heterogeneous media in the presence of electromagnetic field. Balance equations at interfaces therein. The second part of this volume is entitled applications. It also includes four chapters. Chapter five provides a study of the action of fields on fire. A sincere attempt was made to extract fruitful, exhaustive and, systematic information regarding structural, cation distribution, electrical, dielectric and magnetic aspects of the ferrite systems under investigations. In the present study, the properties of nickel ferrites substituted by diamagnetic Zn2+, non-magnetic trivalent In3+ ions and tetravalent Ce4+ ions are studied for various compositions. The properties are investigated with a view to understand the effect of divalent, trivalent and tetravalent substitution in nickel ferrite. The thesis consists of five chapters.
