More than 100 papers and articles on various sub-domains of multimedia were analyzed in order to identify a batch of words for each sub-domain which are most frequent and therefore more likely to be related to the domain of interest. Two set of back to back survey questionnaires were distributed among 89 lecturers of multimedia university. The results of the surveys were further analyzed to figure out the nature if relationship between the relatedness scores generated by MSR functions and those created by human opinion.

We study superharmonic functions, reduced function, harmonic measures and Jensen measures in Brelot spaces. We introduce the concept of quasi multiply superharmonic functions on a product of Brelot spaces and study their properties. A main result obtained is characterizing the quasi superharmonic functions in terms of harmonic, finely harmonic and Jensen measures. Then we prove that a quasi multiply superharmonic function on a product of Brelot spaces equals its lower semicontinuous regularization out side of a 2-negligible set. Further we give a sufficient condition on a Brelot space under which it becomes an extension space for superharmonic functions. As a result we characterize the extreme Jensen measures in such spaces. Statistical correlation functions are a well-known class of statistical descriptors that can be used to describe the morphology and the microstructure-properties relationship. A comprehensive study has been performed for the use of these correlation functions for the reconstruction and homogenization in nano-composite materials. Correlation functions are measured from different techniques such as microscopy (SEM or TEM), small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and can be generated through Monte Carlo simulations. In this book, different experimental techniques such as SAXS and image processing are presented, which are used to measure two-point correlation function correlation for multi-phase polymer composites. Higher order correlation functions must be calculated or measured to increase the precision of the statistical continuum approach. To achieve this aim, a new approximation methodology is utilized to obtain N-point correlation functions for multiphase heterogeneous materials. The two-point functions measured by different techniques have been exploited to reconstruct the microstructure of heterogeneous media. Statistical continuum theory is used to predict the effective thermal conductivity and elastic modulus of polymer composites. N-point probability functions as statistical descriptors of inclusions have been exploited to solve strong contrast homogenization for effective thermal conductivity and elastic modulus properties of heterogeneous materials. Finally, reconstructed microstructure is used to calculate effective properties and damage modeling of heterogeneous materials.

In perturbative quantum field theory, the n-point functions consist, in general, of an infinity of Feynman graphs. Traditionally, these are generated via functional methods. This book describes the relation between complete, connected, and 1-particle irreducible n-point functions directly at the level of the Hopf algebra of time-ordered field operators. The ensembles of time-ordered n-point functions are simply linear forms on this algebra. It is showed, for instance, that the complete and connected n-point functions are elegantly related through the convolution product (induced by the coproduct). In this setting, a simple algebraic relation between connected and 1-particle irreducible n-point functions is derived, while the connected n-point functions are expressed in terms of their loop order contributions. At the center of the work stands a Hopf algebraic representation of graphs and a new algorithm to recursively generate all trees or all connected graphs and their values as Feynman graphs. This monograph presents a clear and self-contained exposition of all the results and their proofs. An introduction to the basic concepts required for the reading is also given.

As Hegel and Frege are the founding fathers of the continental and analytic cultures of philosophy respectively, the salient argument of this paper is that the two cultures are, likewise, more alike than thought. I compare Hegel's first publication, often called Differenzschrift, to Frege's later works on the philosophy of language, Funktion und Begriff and Über Sinn und Bedeutung. I argue that in explicating the cognitive difference expressed by the concept of identity, Hegel develops a theory of pragmatics and semantics that has several similarities to the Mediated Reference Theory proposed by Frege. In doing so, I present an analytic account of Hegel's Absolute Identity determined by the equality of the co-domains produced by two compound functions. These functions are composed of semantic, pragmatic and epistemic constraints that evaluate the ontic content of a proposition.

This book covers local search for combinatorial optimization and its extension to mixed-variable optimization. Although not yet understood from the theoretical point of view, local search is the paradigm of choice for tackling large-scale real-life optimization problems. Today’s end-users demand interactivity with decision support systems. For optimization software, this means obtaining good-quality solutions quickly. Fast iterative improvement methods, like local search, are suited to satisfying such needs. Here the authors show local search in a new light, in particular presenting a new kind of mathematical programming solver, namely LocalSolver, based on neighborhood search. First, an iconoclast methodology is presented to design and engineer local search algorithms. The authors’ concern regarding industrializing local search approaches is of particular interest for practitioners. This methodology is applied to solve two industrial problems with high economic stakes. Software based on local search induces extra costs in development and maintenance in comparison with the direct use of mixed-integer linear programming solvers. The authors then move on to present the LocalSolver project whose goal is to offer the power of local search through a model-and-run solver for large-scale 0-1 nonlinear programming. They conclude by presenting their ongoing and future work on LocalSolver toward a full mathematical programming solver based on local search.

In a sense, trigonometry sits at the center of high school mathematics.
