Narmada, a river in central India flows in a rift valley through the state of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat is the important source of water supply and ground water recharge. Therefore watershed management planning and water resource management can be improved in rift valley after accurate simulation of hydrologic processes. In this study the SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) was used on Middle Narmada basin. The basic objective of the present study is to derive the parameters required for runoff modelling using the remote sensing and geospatial database and estimate the runoff of the Middle Narmada basin. The main input data for simulation of SWAT including Digital Elevation Model (DEM), Land use, Soil type, soil properties and hydro-climatological data, were appropriately collected. By providing all the inputs for model set up, SWAT model was simulated for the period of 15 years (1995-2010). The average annual surface runoff is about 244.54 mm. The model was calibrated and validated using SUFI-2 algorithm. The sensitivity analysis of the model to sub-basin delineation and Hydrological Response Unit (HRU) definition thresholds showed that the flow is more sensitive.

In this study, a comparison of hydrological models for inflow computation in the Modi river, a tributary of Kali Gandaki river, has been carried out by using HBV a lumped and LANDPINE a distributed model although, at first both models were developed for Scandinavian catchments. The HBV model is a conceptual precipitation run off model which is used to simulate the run off process in a catchment based on observed data of precipitation, air temperature and potential evapotranspiration. LANDPINE is a distributed hydrological rainfall runoff model to study the effects of land use changes in runoff from catchment. Seasonal precipitation and temperature reconstructions based on tree-ring chronologies were implemented into the hydrological modelling system PREVAH (PREcipitation-Runoff-EVApotranspiration-HRU model) to model past annual and monthly hydrological cycles back to 500 B.C. Two Swiss catchments were selected for which the hydrological modelling System PREVAH has been successfully calibrated: The Murg stream in the canton of Thurgau and the Dischmabach stream in the canton of Graubuenden. Unfortunately, due to an internal model error, false volume corrections were computed by PREVAH. Therefore, no statistical tests regarding absolute values were conducted. However, correlation coefficients were calculated and for now, this first attempt does detect paleohydroclimatic trends. Possible error sources are also examined and discussed thus the results depend on the tree-ring quality.

Pavement performance modeling is one of the key challenges facing pavement engineers and researchers. Although many new techniques have been applied to the pavement performance modeling, the accuracy of predictions still needs to be further improved. Two novel approaches were proposed in this work: a clusterwise least squares (CLS) regression method for pavement condition rating and a simplified mechanistic-empirical based probabilistic procedure for fatigue cracking of flexible pavements. In a CLS regression model, several clusters (curves), instead of only one as used in an ordinary least squares (OLS) regression model, are used to fit the modeling dataset. The results of the study show that the proposed model resulted in more accurate predictions than the OLS regression model. In the proposed fatigue cracking model, the cracking area is related to traffic loads through a probabilistic distribution. These two procedures are very useful for researchers and practitioners in the field of pavement management, design, and maintenance. The CLS regression should deserve more attention and efforts from any statistician or person of interest.

Observed climatic variability and trends for Thika catchment were assessed for significance with Mann Kendall's trend test and discussed in light of future climate variability scenarios. The results indicate that the catchment has become relatively warmer over the last four decades. The annual precipitation and means of daily mean temperatures over the past 30 years has increased by about 7.8 mm (although not statistically significant), and 2.14°C respectively. In many clinical trials, in order to characterize the safety profile of a subject with a given treatment, multiple measurements are taken over time. Mostly, measurements taken from the same subject are not independent. The types of model for data analysis highly depend on the nature and measurement scale of the outcome variable. In this book, the two model families: marginal, and random effect models that take the correlation among measurements of the same subject into account were briefly discussed using real datasets. In case of marginal models the correlated nature of the data is taken into account inside the estimating equation, while for random effects model it is done through the random effect part. In the random effect approach the goal is to determine subject-specific changes over the courses of the study, while in the marginal model the emphasis is to determine the overall change. Joint modeling approaches that used to model different outcomes jointly, and model selection and diagnosis measures were discussed briefly. Moreover, SAS codes used in the analysis for each model type were included in book.

High population growth and increased exploitation of groundwater resources causes the degradation of groundwater quality. In today's world GIS has a wide applications in all fields of study. In this study GIS has been applied to evaluate the groundwater quality in the Peshawar district of Pakistan. The study is divided into two parts. In the first part 105 samples were collected in the field and were analyzed in laboratory for different important parameters such as pH, Ec, TDS, Alkalinity (HCO3), total hardness, Ca hardness, Mg hardness, NO3 (Nitrate) concentration, Cl-1 concentration and turbidity . These parameters were spatially modeled and analyzed using Spatial statistical techniques. In the second part a GIS based DRASTIC model was applied to assess the Groundwater vulnerable zones to pollution using six input parameters to the model such as depth to groundwater, net recharge, aquifer media, soil media, topography and hydraulic conductivity. After modeling the area was divided to low, medium and high vulnerable zones.

The labour transition occurs due to several reasons one of the main reason is that the fixed wage rate in other sectors as compared to agriculture sector. In this context the Lewis model provides a good framework for explaining the ways in which the fruits of economic development are spread. Lewis divided developing economy into two sectors: subsistence and capital sector. He assumed that the subsistence sector was characterised by surplus labour and low real wages whereas capital sector characterised by capital intensive production and higher real wages. If we transfer excess labour from agriculture to capital sector it will not affect the production and productivity of subsistence sector and it will increase the production in capital sector which will help in development of economy. Lewis' model is mainly applicable surplus labour countries.
