The content and profile of fatty acids in the eggs can be modified by changes in the diet of hens. Flaxseed is used as a feed ingredient in layers' diets to incorporate omega-3 fatty acids into eggs, but its use as a poultry feed ingredient is associated both with detrimental health effects in hens and production of off-flavours in eggs. Pearl millet appears to be a satisfactory alternative feed grain for laying hens for production of "Omega Eggs". It contains higher levels of n-3 fatty acids compared with corn, the common energy source in current poultry diets. Therefore replacing corn with pearl millet can reduce the requirement for flaxseed in hens' diets for the purpose of "Omega-3" egg production. Hence the adverse effects of flaxseed are diminished without any negative effect on flock performance and egg characteristics, except for a depressed egg pigmentation resulted from feeding pearl millet to hens, which is recoverable by supplementing the hens' diet with natural pigments.

The high energy content of plastics as well as the chemical composition of them is considered as a resource of liquid fuels. Plastics, especially polyolefines, represent an alternative to crude oil, so thermal degradation of waste plastics into liquid fuels is one of the most promising methods among the various treatments of waste plastics.Oil shale, the main fossil fuel in Estonia, has a long tradition of utilization via combustion and semicoking to produce electric and heat energy and oil. Semicoking of Estonian oil shale is processed industrially in gas generators and shale fines are retorted in a solid heat carrier unit. The composition of shale oil (the high content of heteroatomic compounds, mostly oxygen) needs improvement. The yield and composition of shale oil can be enhanced by its coprocessing with polyolefines.The possibilities of coprocessing of different plastics and oil shale considering the positive properties of both groups and reciprocally decreasing the negative ones are the object of this work. Most developing countries are facing difficulties in providing sufficient animal protein for their population. The cost of feed is very high and this has made livestock production very expensive. Since energy is one of the most expensive segments of a poultry ration, accurate knowledge of the available energy content of feedstuffs is necessary to formulate the most economical least-cost rations. This research work determines (i) the true metabolizable energy (TME) of maize pap waste (MPW) and rice milling waste (RMW), (ii) the growth response of broiler birds to diets containing graded levels of MPW and RMW, (iii) the effects of dietary inclusion of MPW and RMW on internal organs and nutrient retention of broiler birds and, (iv) the cost effectiveness of feeding broiler starters and finishers with diets containing graded levels of these agro-industrial by-products. An important feature of the TME assay is the reproducibility of its data between laboratories. The findings are novel and should be recommended for feed millers, animal nutritionists and research institutions.

The Multinomial logit model was used to determine the factors affecting farmers demand and participation in credit market, be it formal or informal, or both institutions. Descriptive statistics was carried out for the socio-economic and enterprise characteristic, while the impact of the use of credit on the productivity of the farmers was ascertained using the Cobb-Douglas stochastic frontier production function. Analyses of results from data collated through well structured questionnaires indicated that the factors that affects farmers credit demand and choice includes, socio-economic and enterprise characteristics, indicators from the credit history of the farmer, as well as institutional or policy-based characteristics.Socio-economic and enterprise characteristics such as educational level, gender, farm capacity, and household asset were significant factors that influenced participant choice of credit institution in the study area. There was no difference in perspectives of spirituality between hospice, mental health and hospital social work respondents. There were some minor statistically significant differences in the utilization and training components, but overall, they were low in all three groups.

Retrofitting method using fiber with high tensile strength namely Aramid and Carbon has successfullyproven increasing both shear strength and ductility of reinforced concrete structural members. The drawback of these fibers is its low fracturing strain property which causes brittle failure at the time the fiber breaks. This book focuses on fiber with high fracturing strain and low tensile strength such as PET as retrofitting material for reinforced concrete specimens representing bridge piers tested under reversed cyclic loading. PET fiber breakage did not occur and higher shear capacity and ductility were obtained compared to that of specimens retrofitted with Aramid and Carbon. The high fracturing strain property allows bigger tolerance of fiber breakage resulting in slower decrease of shear strength capacity. Models to predict shear strength capacity and deformation with the key variable of increasingfiber strain as a representation of structural member deterioration are proposed and show good prediction of experimental result. The results should provide valuable information for civil engineer, construction company and industry specializing in structural retrofitting."

A considerable amount of evidence has accumulated in supporting the view that conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) and omega-3 fatty acids (FA) have beneficial health properties and that the consumption levels of these FA is insufficient in most western diets. In view of their benefits, there has been a considerable interest in enhancing milk and dairy food products with these beneficial FA. The objective of the first trial was to determine the effect of supplementing grazing dairy cows' diet with fish oil (FO) and linseed oil (LSO) on milk c9, t11 CLA and omega-3 FA. The objective of the second trail was to examine the temporal changes in milk c9, t11 CLA content of grazing dairy cows fed FO and LSO for an extended period of time. Results from the two trials show that supplementing grazing cows' diets with LSO and FO enhances milk c9, t11 CLA and omega-3 FA content and could be used as a practical approach to broaden dairy market by increasing their competitiveness in the U.S. healthy food market.

Our earth's crust is the ultimate source of all metallic elements present in the ecosystem. Globally there are 35 metals that concern us because of residential or occupational exposure; 23 of these are the heavy metals. In this study, the level of heavy metals pollution in poultry chicken (Gallus domesticus) at Karachi, Hyderabad and Thatta were investigated during the year 2007-9. A total 200 random poultry organs (liver, brain and heart) of same aged groups of chickens were collected from poultry shops of 6 selected locations, and 4 heavy metals Cd, Ni, Cu and Pb were analyzed. Based on results that all chickens samples were contaminated with Cadmium (Cd), Nickel (Ni), Copper (Cu) and Lead (Pb). Copper has been recorded as highest level contamination as compared to three other metals Cd, Ni, and Pb. During the study on the basis of feeds samples analyzing, metals may be have been transferred via poultry feeds to poultry chickens. The research techniques and results are helpful for graduate and research students of Biological Sciences, Environmental Science and Poultry Science students.

It deals with pesticides and heavy metals which are of great impotance for pest control in agriculture, various diseases in poultry and for growth in poultry simultaneously. Carbaryl, a carbamate insecticide, is used in poultry industry for destroying and preventing the pest and vectors for various animal diseases. Carbaryl inhibits the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity in vertebrates, insects and human beings while zinc is used in poultry industry for their growth and for normal functioning of different biochemical process in the body. If pesticide enter in the body in excess i.e., above the lethal dose than it can change the function of hormones, neurotransmitters, physiology, morphology and behaviour.Statistically insignificant (p>0.005) increase in the body weight were found in the experimental animals as compared to control was recorded with different doses of carbaryl. The selected unconventional feed resources used in this study may fulfill the nutritional requirement of poultry industry. Animal origin of unconventional feedstuffs (e.g. blood meal, feather meal, leather shavings, silkworm pupae, poultry droppings, poultry offal meal, poultry manure and poultry hatchery byproduct) contain higher % of protein than the plant origin of unconventional feed resources (e.g. drumstick leaf meal, krishnachura leaf meal, ipil ipil leaf meal, duckweed meal, waste tea leaf meal, rubber seed meal, neem leaf and seed meal, cassava leaf and stem meal, bitter melon seed meal and triticale meal). As the selected samples are easily available, these can be collected and processed easily for the use and may minimize the cost. Therefore, it is concluded that the unconventional feed samples may be an efficient and economic substitute of conventional feeds. It is possible to replace conventional feeds by cheaper unconventional feeds in poultry diet leading to increase profitability.
