Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,00, Charles University in Prague (Institute of Economic Studies), language: English, abstract: This paper analyses the process of knowledge-base adoption in the enterprise environment. Using data from two knowledge-management systems operated by the company, Semanta, s.r.o. we studied the day-to-day interactions of employees using the system and identified the important drivers of system adoption. We began by studying the effect of co-workers' collaborative activities on knowledge creation within the system. It was found that they had a positive and significant impact upon overall knowledge creation and thus on adoption. Secondly, we explored how the newly defined concept of gamification could help determine and encourage an increase in knowledge creation. The use of gamification tools, such as the "Hall of Fame" page, turned out to have significant influence in the adoption process. Thirdly, we examined how users continually seek knowledge within the system and how asking for missing information and being supplied with answers has an impact on adoption rates. It was shown that the quicker the responses and the more experts dealing with requests the greater the impact on knowledge base adoption. Finally, we showed that the size and character of the company deploying the knowledge management system does not influence the adoption drivers. This paper represents an effo...

Urban areas are growing at a very fast pace. Hence, Planning, development and management of urban areas, especially in the developing countries gain prime importance.Accuracy of the information is the prime requirement for Planning, development and management of the land parcels especially in the urban areas where the land is scarce. Hence there is a need to organize spatial information system for urban planning and management. A land information system gives support to land planning and management by providing information about the land, the resources upon it and the improvements made to it. Already existing Information systems like National Urban Information System (NUIS), Land Management Information System (LMIS) and Spatial Data Infrastructure(SDI) has been studied and found to be devoid of certain information for effective utilization.Hence an Integrated Information System with comprehensive land information system has been developed for urban planning, development and management at different Planning Levels. In addition, a plot level L.I.S has been generated in Geographical Information System (GIS) platform for effective implementation.

The book is based on the author's personal experience as a mother who lost a child through adoption and her experience as a social worker who has worked extensively in the area of post-adoption counselling with adults. The book graphically describes the disenfranchised grief associated with adoption and suggests ways in which that hidden grief can be acknowledged and confronted. The author explains how both her personal and her professional experiences have led her to the conclusion that alternative care for children in need must no longer include adoption.

Peter Sauer Improving an existing CIS by examining customer decisions, development, and planing to increase the effectiveness for ISC and ISM

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: More and more companies apply electronic information systems in all their business areas. In the past, many of these systems pertained to one specific user group. However, due to high efforts and investments for maintaining these information flows, companies tend to increase the amount of attracted user groups. Thereby, the users must deal with more and more information every day. In addition, they must select the relevant information, which serves as a basis for their decisions, on their own. This procedure and the included irrelevant information generate high efforts due to re-work requirements. Therefore, users reject more and more information. All these conditions combined with a two-user group-oriented customer information system require output adjustments to the user-specific needs. Consequently, it is necessary to identify the users, their needs, and the potential effectiveness of specific information provided by a specific system. This thesis refers to theoretical analysis models for generating an optimal concept. Thereby, it considers methods analyzing the original information system aim, user groups, their needs and the way the provided information flow can meet all these requests. These considerations represent actual conditions of Varta Gerätebatterie GmbH. Afterwards, this research compares the optimal with the actual situation in order to deduct appropriate improvement steps. Finally, this thesis suggests possible integrations and constit...

Zakariya Belkhamza Creating a Culture for Information Systems Success

It has been widely reported that issues related to organizational context appear frequently in discussions of information systems success. The statement that the information system did not fit the behavioral context in an organization is often part of the explanation of why particular information system encountered unanticipated resistance and never met expectation. While this context has been intensively studied, we still lack evidence on how this organizational context is affecting the success of information system from a managerial action perspective. This type of managerial involvement is often neglected to the extent that it became an essential obstacle to organizational performance. The objective of Creating a Culture for Information Systems Success is to assist CIOs and IT managers on how to use their managerial actions to create a suitable cultural environment in the organization, which leads to a successful implementation of information systems. This book will also provide guidelines for managers on how to create this organizational context, measure it, and ensure it leads to a successful implementation and use of information systems. The main theme is to explain how behavioral context of an organization led by their managers and executives would lead to the success of the information systems function.

Kathrin Eichler Automatic extraction and processing of document references

Master's Thesis from the year 2007 in the subject Computer Science - Applied, grade: 1.0, University of Sunderland (School of Computing and Technology), language: English, abstract: While reading documents, you often encounter text passages advising you to refer to other documents for more information about a specific topic. These references to other documents are particularly common in technical documents, written for the sole purpose of providing the reader with as much relevant information as possible, without rephrasing information that can be found elsewhere. Knowing how the documents in a system are interrelated, i.e. which other documents a document refers to or is referred by, can be extremely helpful when trying to get access to relevant information. A typicalexample of such a "knowledge net" providing information about document relations is CiteSeer, a digital library of academic literature. For each document in the library system, CiteSeer displays lists of related documents, such as a list of documents thatthe current document cites as well as a list of documents that the current document is cited by. The assumption that inspired this thesis is that such lists are not only helpful when reading academic literature but could also assist a reader of technical documentsstored in a company's document management system. The idea was thus to extend an existing document management system by displaying, for each document stored in the system, a list of link...

Personal Information Management (PIM) deals with information that is relevant to its owner and his everyday life, e.g. addresses, emails, or all kinds of personal documents. Since most PIM activities happen in transit, mobile support is indispensable. There do exist many mobile systems to support PIM, but without any adequate solution yet. The major cause is the lack of an appropriate underlying information structure: common hierarchical structures are inefficient in terms of information retrieval, which, however, constitutes an important task in PIM. This work addresses this and more problems. It describes a system based on an associative network of information instead of a conventional hierarchical file system: all personal information is connected with further information, representing a semantically meaningful coherency. Information can either be associated manually or generated fully automatically from context information, such as date/time, location, and people present at a location. This book describes the development process including a long-time evaluation. It addresses all developers and designers who place value on user-friendly software.

The availability of high-quality software is critical for the effective use of information technology in organizations. A large body of software quality literature has conceptualized systems development as a technical process emphasizing precision and technical accuracy in design and constructions while paying limited attention to the organizational and socio-behavioral aspect of quality management. This focus of software quality as a technical aspect has had marginal impact on the overall system quality. This book examines strategic importance of organizational and socio-behavioral aspect of incorporating organizational and socio-behavioral aspect of TQM constructs to improve quality performance in IS development. The attention to quality improvement is further escalated by increased organizational dependence on IS and the magnitude of potential losses associated with poor system quality. The target group for this book is software manufacturing firms, individual analyst/programmers and organizations that develop their information system in-house and who aim to develop quality systems. Students undertaking information system related courses will find useful literature in this book.

The main purpose of introducing AIS was to offer a wider spectrum of available, continuous and reliable navigational data. Apart from being useful for traffic control in a marine area, AIS data can be a very important source of information used in collision avoidance process. However, some reservations are voiced with regard to the unconditional reliance on the data transferred through this channel. The information integrity problem had been raised already at the stage of system implementation and some fragmentary outcomes were published in the past. However, it can be assumed that the results from the system introduction period may not represent reality. Thus, it seems reasonable to base the assessment on theoretical analysis, through the development of multi-criteria model describing the AIS information integrity. The research was performed on data recorded in the period between 04.04.2006 r. and 08.01.2012 r. (selected 55 weeks- 385 days) in the laboratory of Institute of Navigation and Hydrography. This book explores the impact of information systems on the management of North–South asymmetric strategic alliances through a series of in-depth case studies which analyze different types of partnerships. Positioned at the heart of the value creation process, the choice of information system seems to be becoming a strategic issue which should be centered not only on the organizational decisions related to the type of alliance but also the management systems of each of the partners. The authors provide an understanding of the nature of this relationship between the organizational structure and the method of information system integration in asymmetric alliances. The in-depth analysis of strategic alliance case-studies illustrates the different methods of information system integration, which are themselves linked to the organisational and structural choices of the alliance. These methods are characterized by information-sharing and coordination mechanisms as well as the balance of control over shared activities developed by the distinct partners.

Lieven Vandendriessche In the best interest of the children

'In the best interest of the children' describes the author's experience of his daughters' adoption in the US. For Belgium to recognize this adoption, the author's family even had to take the Belgian State to Court. This far-reaching experience encouraged the author to reflect about the topic of international adoption. Why is adoption being treated as a suspicious institution by the same agencies which claim to act only in 'the best interest of the children'?This book denounces the practices described above, and calls for action to change them.Professor Elizabeth Bartholet, Morris Wasserstein Professor at Law, Faculty Director Child Advocacy Program, Harvard Law School: "Key forces mounting the attack [against international adoption] claim the child human rights mantle, arguing that such adoption denies heritage rights, and often involves abusive practices. Many nations assert rights to hold onto the children born within their borders, and others support these demands citing subsidiarity principles. But children's most basic human rights to family are at the heart of the true meaning of subsidiarity, and children will often find family only in international adoption. This book is important because it tells the story about how governments and government officials, claiming to represent the best interest of the children, prevent good people from giving children the nurturing home they so desperately need. We need more adoptive parents like thi...

In the context of systems and control, incomplete information refers to a dynamical system in which knowledge about the system states is limited due to the difficulties in modelling complexity in a quantitative way. The well-known types of incomplete information include parameter uncertainties and norm-bounded nonlinearities. Recently, in response to the development of network technologies, the phenomenon of randomly occurring incomplete information has become more and more prevalent. Filtering, Control and Fault Detection with Randomly Occurring Incomplete Information reflects the state-of-the-art of the research area for handling randomly occurring incomplete information from three interrelated aspects of control, filtering and fault detection. Recent advances in networked control systems and distributed filtering over sensor networks are covered, and application potential in mobile robotics is also considered. The reader will benefit from the introduction of new concepts, new models and new methodologies with practical significance in control engineering and signal processing. Key Features: Establishes a unified framework for filtering, control and fault detection problem for various discrete-time nonlinear stochastic systems with randomly occurring incomplete information Investigates several new concepts for randomly occurring phenomena and proposes a new system model to better describe network-induced problems Demonstrates how newly developed techniques can handle emerging mathematical and computational challenges Contains the latest research results Filtering, Control and Fault Detection with Randomly Occurring Incomplete Information provides a unified yet neat framework for control/filtering/fault-detection with randomly occurring incomplete information. It is a comprehensive textbook for graduate students and is also a useful practical research reference for engineers dealing with control, filtering and fault detection problems for networked systems.

Alfred Mully Adoption of IFRS in the Netherlands. Impact on value relevance

Masterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich BWL - Bank, Börse, Versicherung, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Listed Dutch firms are required by law to prepare their financial statements in accordance with the International financial Statements (IFRS) since 2005. Before 2005, listed Dutch firms prepared their financial statements using Dutch law, Title 9 of book two of the Dutch Civil Code. It is interesting to investigate the effect of the implementation of IFRS. Is the quality of the financial statements improved by the implementation of IFRS for the users of the financial statements, such as investors, suppliers and banks? This question can be answered in many ways, looking at different characteristics of the accounting information, for example the comparability, the relevance, the reliability and the understandability. In this thesis the relevance will be studied. Information has the quality of relevance when it influences the economic decisions of users by helping them evaluate past, present or future events or conforming, or correcting, their past evaluations. (IFRS Handbook, 2007, p. 40) In order to be relevant the accounting information must reflect the information needs of the users in valuing a company. In order to determine the market price of a company, investors need accounting information that reflects the share price of a company. The research done studying the relevance of accounting information for valuating companies is called value-relevance research. The im...

Keeping that information secure is therefore vital to your business. This handy pocket guide is an essential overview of two key information security standards that cover the formal requirements (ISO27001:2013) for creating an Information Security Management System (ISMS), and the best-practice recommendations (ISO27002:2013) for those responsible for initiating, implementing or maintaining it. Furthering the objectives of your organisation Information security means much more than a technology solution, and requires buy-in from senior managers and the collaboration of all staff in the organisation. For this reason, ISO27001 is not a one-size-fits-all solution, nor is it designed to be a static, fixed entity. By looking at ISO27001 and ISO27002 together, this pocket guide gives a wider view of what it means to implement an ISO27001 ISMS. A travel support tool can be offered by a Multimodal Information System (MIS), which allows them to input their needs and provides them with the appropriate responses to improve their travel conditions. The goal of this book is to design and develop methodologies in order to realize a MIS tool which can ensure permanent multimodal information availability before and during travel, considering passengers’ mobility. The authors propose methods and tools that help transport network customers to formulate their requests when they connect to their favorite information systems through PC, laptop, cell phone, Portable Digital Assistant (PDA), etc. The MIS must automatically identify the websites concerning the customer’s services. These sites can, in fact, represent transport services, cultural services, tourist services, etc. The system should then be able to collect the necessary travel information from these sites in order to construct and propose the most convenient information according to the user’s requests. Islamic asset management system has been implemented over the past few years, but there is no system that combines all types of Islamic assets in one single system. The existing system only focused on the management of the specific asset. In our country, there is only one web-based system for zakat management, whereas the other asset management like fidiah, waqaf and heritage only as a stand-alone system. This will lead to waste of time and effort for users where they have to go to various places to manage their assets. Personal Islamic Asset Management System using Object-oriented approach is a portal that integrates the personal management of Islamic assets which intend to solve all of aforementioned problems. It has detailed information about Islamic asset management including various functions for zakat, heritage, fidiah and kifayah. The Personal Islamic Asset Management System using object-oriented approach also provides the counter information and archived engine to search for related documents. This thesis contributes to the management of personal Islamic assets as well as using object-oriented software engineering.

The book presents investigations into the world of info-computational nature, in which information constitutes the structure, while computational process amounts to its change. Information and computation are inextricably bound: There is no computation without informational structure, and there is no information without computational process. Those two complementary ideas are used to build a conceptual net, which according to Novalis is a theoretical way of capturing reality. We apprehend the reality within a framework known as natural computationalism, the view that the whole universe can be understood as a computational system at many different levels - from quantum mechanical world, to biological organisms including intelligent minds and their societies. Questions about nature of information and computation and their unified view are addressed along with application of info- computational approach to knowledge generation.

Elke Simon Implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning System with Focus on End-User Training

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: The implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system refers to Information Systems, Business Processes, and People. Basically, it is a changing procedure in organizations that strive for company-wide high performance. Business Process Transformation is about changing a company’s focus - from products to customers. Information Systems are replaced by a homogenous system environment which integrates all information into a common system. The behaviour and skills of the company-wide personnel are adapted to perform in the new "world". The big challenge of the implementation is to have the properly-trained people for a high-performance organization. Unfortunately, most companies do not recognize that need. They underestimate the impact that the human factor has on an ERP approach; they consider the implementation as a software-installation with influence to the business. But, the implementation is much more complex. This thesis is dedicated to all those persons who intend to implement an Enterprise Resource Planning system, and who want to understand the theory of Business Process Transformation and how it is linked to Enterprise Resource Planning. To emphasize the importance of the human factors within the implementation, chapter 4 elaborates on End-User Training as a significant part of an implementation for a company dedicated to becoming a high-performance organization. This paper also includes a case study of an ERP implementation...
