Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) also known as peanut and earthnut, is an important oilseed crop largely grown by resource poor smallholder farmers under rainfed conditions. These farmers employ different tillage practices in the production of the crop. Many farmers perform tillage operations without being aware of the effect of these operations on soil physical properties and crop responses. It is carried out mainly to loosen the upper layer of soil, to mix the soil with fertilizer and organic residues, to control weeds, and to create a suitable seedbed for germination and plant growth. The theme of nutrient management in integrated way for increasing the soil fertility is gaining ground throughout the world in recent years due to high cost of fertilizer and reduced availability of organic manures. Modern tillage and integrated nutrient management practices may affect soil fertility and productivity of groundnut due to different soil conditions created and fulfills the nutrient requirement of crop. The book contains the information on the effect of tillage and integrated nutrient management practices on soil fertility and productivity of groundnut under rainfed conditions.

India is one of the largest producer of safflower and ranks first in acreage, accounting about 36% of the world total area. Nutrient management is the major factor which influences the productive capacity of soils. Fertilizer is the major input through which the productivity can be increased by exploiting the varietal potential, since the cost of inputs of major nutrients through chemical fertilizers is increasing. Hence, this supports the integrated nutrient management approach not only to boost the production but also to preserve the ecosystem and to maintain its health. The conjunctive use of organics with the nitrogen fertilizer increased the use efficiency of nitrogen, improves the soil health and minimizes soil pollution. The results showed that performance of safflower crop improved significantly with integrated use of inorganic and organic sources of N (Farm Yard Manure/Poultry manure/Vermicompost) when compared with the application of inorganic N alone. Among the different combinations tried, application of 50 % N through inorganic fertilizer + 50% N through VC recorded highest seed yield, oil yield and also improves soil fertility leading to better soil health.

Over the last few years, the increasing demand of organic produce and abundance of organic nutrient sources in mixed farming system is an excellent opportunity for farmers to adopt this system. The plant nutrients need to be applied through natural organic substances for profitable fruit production. However, with the progressive increase in the use of inorganic fertilizers alone in an unbalanced manner created adverse affect on soil health. Moreover, the escalating prices of nitrogenous fertilizers diverted the attention of scientists to find out the other possible sources of nitrogen. This has become important to use available chemical fertilizers efficiently through suitable application methods and to follow integrated nutrient management practices by combining inorganic fertilizers with organics, which not only improve the fruit quality and soil health but also remain for longer period in soil to make it healthy and in productive Condition. Therefore this book aims to increase the yield and quality of guava with the adoption of integrated nutrient management.

Specialty corns viz. sweet corn, pop corn, baby corn, high oil corn etc. assume tremendous market potential. These specialty corns with their high market value are perfectly suitable to Peri-urban agriculture. For diversification and value addition of maize as well as the growth of the food processing industry, growing maize for vegetable purpose, which is known as ‘baby corn’, is contemplated. Although increased level of production can be achieved by increased use of inorganic fertilizers alone but it may leads to pollution problem and deterioration in soil properties, organic carbon and soil fertility. This can only be maintained at sustainable level by the application of organic manures. Complementary application of organic and inorganic fertilizers increases nutrient synchrony and reduces losses by converting inorganic nitrogen into organic forms. It is also important not only for enhancing the efficiency of the fertilizers, but also in reducing environmental problems that may arise from their use. Looking to the above fact, the present investigation entitled “Integrated Nutrient Management in Baby Corn (Zea mays L.)” was undertaken.

A set of experiments were designed and conducted at Sugarcane Section, Agriculture Research Institute, Tandojam, Pakistan, located at 25o25’60’N 68o31’ 60E during 2008-09 and 2009-10. In all the experiments, Thatta-10 sugarcane variety was sown. In the light of findings it is concluded that integrated nutrient management recorded 25% saving in inorganic NPK fertilizers due to application of FYM and or press mud applied at 20 t ha-1. The residual effect of FYM and press mud showed significant effect on subsequent ratoon crop. The residual FYM and or press mud at 20 t ha-1 + supplemental application of 25% less inorganic NPK fertilizer was found sufficient nutrient level. This study recommends that organic and inorganic nutrients should be applied to enhance growth, yield, quality and nutrient uptake of both plant and ratoon sugarcane. Residual effects were seen on the subsequent ratoon crop due to FYM and press mud applications. Therefore, application of FYM and or press mud at 20 t ha-1 once in a two year with 25% less NPK fertilizer is recommended.

Difference in performance of cut flower like Gerbera, was primarily accounted to variation in soil moisture regime. Gerbera plants planted in June produced the best response in terms of vegetative growth , floral characteristics and flower yield. The most favourable response of June planting was observed due to collective effect of better soil moisture conditions, lesser diurnal variation in temperature ,and better inflow of nutrients. These observations aided in establishing soil-climate analogues for open field Gerbera. Integrated nutrient management based treatments produced differential response on vegetative growth , flowering characteristics, flower yield, soil fertility status, soil microbial properties and nutrient accumulation in leaves. Invariably, out of three organic manures viz., Pig manure, farmyard manure and Cocopith when applied along with 50% chemical fertilizers, produced a much better response than when applied alone. DRIS ( Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System ) based leaf nutrient norms helped in tailoring the fertilizer requirement of open field Gerbera, without incurring any nutrient deficit during the entire growth period.

The common bean is an important food and cash crop in many regions of the world. In Africa alone, it provides food for more than 100 million people and is a critical source of income for rural households. Common bean yields, however, have dropped in the last ten years. This decline is the result of poor soil fertility and nutrient depletion as well as high incidences of insect pests, key among them being the bean stem maggot (BSM) and the black bean aphid (BBA). To address soil nutrient depletion and the accompanying declining agricultural productivity, integrated soil fertility management (ISFM) has been adapted as a framework for enhancing crop productivity through combining fertilizer use with other soil fertility management technologies, adapted to local conditions. The book evaluates the influence of soil fertility treatments on yield and yield components of the common bean. Additionally, to establish the potential links between soil fertility and crop protection, the effect of ISFM interventions on the incidence of the BSM and the BBA is also being assessed.

Currently, renewable energy generation (REG) in China has experienced rapid development. Although the issue of grid connection rate exists worldwide, it is particularly severe in China. This book proposes a coordinated management mechanism with full consideration of China's resource endowment, technology level and power system. The ultimate coordinated management mechanism for the orderly grid connection of REG is proposed with two sub-mechanisms, the integrated planning coordinated management mechanism and the transmission coordinated management mechanism. With the application of it, an orderly large-scale grid connection of REG will be achieved gradually and the usage efficiency of energy and power will be improved. Besides, aiming at the new development and utilization situation of China's energy sources, this book proposed a new pattern called ''regional multi-energy system'' to promote the energy structure optimization in China. This system ensure the priority of renewable energy sources (RES) in the development and utilization.

The companies and their business environment are facing drastic challenges within the age of globalisation. On the one hand, the companies are exposed to market saturation and enormous pressure in Europe and the USA, while on the other hand, they notice attractive production locations and a huge market potential in China. In the highly industrialised nations, migration to so-called low cost countries has become a business management trend. When it comes to the construction of new industrial facilities - which is the foundation for producing new products, project management becomes a key part of the globalisation process. However, project management in China leads to new challenges and traps for western executives. Unlike in European countries, China is an 'individual related' country, where the personal relationships has a greater effect in business success. Knowledge of human nature becomes more important in China than it is regardedin western countries, where facts and figures predominantly determine the communication within the business environment. In China, the soft side of management provides a new challenge. What is the key to successful business in China? It is not only dependent on hard factors or hard skills such as knowledge, specialised know-how or expertise. The personal culture in China requires so-called soft skills, which adversely affect business success. These problems arise, beneath a lot of advantages, from the model of business process management which developed within the last few years. This model gets more and more implemented to the larger industry enterprises and make new and great demands on executive work. Business process management models contains, beside the traditional economic aim constructions, the integrated management system which unites environment, quality and work safety as aims in itself. To draw one's attention to the changes which arise by the business process management on traditional ideas, the integrated management system was chosen as a title of this book. It is not the aim to write again a new essay, in addition to the hundreds of already existing ones, about business ethics or leadership. It is all about a special perspective. In detail, the scientific question and the goal of this book is to represent the requirements for executives on lower and middle management levels, which arise on the one hand from the integrated management system and on the other hand from the changed expectation attitude in society and, finally, to develop based on both of them a practice-oriented solution, with which these requirements can be met.To guarantee the validity of the work, it is at first n...

In India, there is sufficient availability of organic manures like animal dung manure (791.6 mt), crop residues (603.5 mt), green manure (4.50 m ha), rural compost (148.3 mt), city compost (12.2 mt) and biofertilizer (0.41 mt)and these may become a good substitute of chemical fertilizers to maintain the soil physico-chemical and biological properties. The incorporation of organic manures improves the nutrient content and uptake. Although organic manures contain plant nutrients in small quantities as compared to the fertilizer, the presence of growth promoting principles like enzyme and hormones besides plant materials make them essential for improvement of soil fertility and productivity. For better utilization of resources and to produce crops with less expenditure, INM is the best approach. In this approach all the possible source of plant nutrients are applied based on economic consideration and the balance required for the crop is supplemented with chemical fertilizers. The combined use of organic and inorganic sources of plant nutrient not only pushes the production and profitability of field crops, but also it helps in maintaining the permanent fertility status of the soil.

Nutrients enrichment especially Phosphorus, have been identified as the major cause of eutrophication and several studies show that aquatic primary productivity is frequently limited by the availability of nutrients. The ability to identify nutrient, physical and chemical factors affecting fresh water health is therefore of a considerable importance to our understanding of the ecology of aquatic fish for fish management. Unpredictable fluctuations in the physical and chemical characteristics of lakes e.g. temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, and conductivity have been shown to affect the richness and structure of lake fish. Information generated from the study herein contribute immensely to the effective decision-making and management of the small lakes’ resources to meet human developmental needs.

Sustainable development is a goal to be reached in ecosystems to ensure good management that can lead to a healthy and productive environment. Natural forests play a central role in the state of environment, and knowledge on biological criteria that conduct the dynamics of them is needed to understand the main points to take into account in order to carry out this good management. Since the last few decades, marked land use changes have taken place throughout the Mediterranean region. These changes have a great impact on plant diversity of which variations can affect in return ecosystem functioning. The approach involves rigorous scientific experimentation, leading to detailed of the policy socio-economic implications of the research findings and followed by dissemination of information to policy makers and end-users. A multidisciplinary consortium will cover many aspects of biogeochemical cycles in forest ecosystem including a strong emphasis on the soil community. The considered methodologies are productivity, litter production, litter decomposition, nutrient balance, physiology, seasonal variation of canopy leaf biomass, nutrient translocation and nutrient use efficiency.

Precision farming is the application of technologies and principles to manage spatial and temporal variability associated with all aspects of agricultural production. Precision farming is essential for serving the dual purpose of enhancing productivity and reducing ecological degradation. Precision farming offers a variety of potential benefits in profitability, productivity, sustainability, crop quality, food safety, environmental protection, on farm quality of life and rural economic development. To maximize the yield to a great extent, supplying nutrients as such in the soil will not serve, as the nutrient requirement varies with different zones in the soil and so it is a must to analyse the soil nutrient status in various zones and nutrients are to be supplied according to the site specific requirement. Fertilizer recommendations in modern crop production rely on laboratory analysis of soil samples. The accuracy and precision of the fertilizer recommendation can be improved by considering the factors influencing nutrient variability. The fertilizer and water management varies with different zones and it plays a vital role in determining the yield and quality of farm produce.

This book aims to present an overview of Chinese, Japanese and Korean modern management styles. The cultures of China, Japan and Korea are influenced by Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism. As such, there are some basic similarities in their management styles. As business operations become more internationalised, the management styles among Chinese, Japanese and Korean companies have blurred the lines of distinction between Western and Eastern cultures. The need for Western managers to adapt to Asian way of doing business, and likewise for Asian companies to understand Western business practices, means that managers have to bridge the gaps and adopt the best management practices containing both Western and Eastern elements.Unlike the traditional approach of setting clear differentiation between Western and Eastern cultures, this book looks at Oriental management from a modern perspective, that is, the fusion of Western and Eastern management styles. By using a multifaceted approach to understanding modern Oriental management, the author stresses the complexities of the business environment in China, Japan and Korea. He suggests that Western theories of management are applicable to Eastern cultural context with some adaptations to the local environment. The author also offers valuable insights into the management styles of Oriental managers by providing a critical perspective of their thought processes in simple yet highly relevant illustrations of models and frameworks. The best plant growth of onion resulted from poultry manure with bio-fertilizer. The bio-fertilizer resulted an increase in the parameters of onion plant as compared to without bio-fertilizer treatment. The poorest plant growth observed from farmer practices without bio-fertilizer treatment. It was found that combined application of organic manure and chemical fertilizer along with bio-fertilizer improved soil fertility, soil physical and chemical properties and increased crop yields that resulted in sustained and successful crop production. Therefore, it is suggested to make a fertilizer/ manure management strategy which ensures sufficient nutrient supply for high and stable productivity of onion.

High levels of any particular nutrient in the soil can interfere with the availability and uptake of other nutrients by the plant. Nutrients which interfere with one another are referred to as antagonists. High nitrogen levels can reduce the availability of boron and potassium. Unless care is taken to ensure adequate balanced supply of nutrients, application of high levels of any particular nutrient can induce deficiencies of other nutrients in plant. Stimulation occurs when application of a particular nutrient increases the uptake of another nutrient. For example, increased N creates a demand for more magnesium. Interactions among plant nutrients are of very important and could take place in the soil as well as within the plant. Such interactions must be understood and considered in order to secure adequate nutrient supply.

Policy-based data management enables the creation of community-specific collections. Every collection is created for a purpose. The purpose defines the set of properties that will be associated with the collection. The properties are enforced by management policies that control the execution of procedures that are applied whenever data are ingested or accessed. The procedures generate state information that defines the outcome of enforcing the management policy. The state information can be queried to validate assessment criteria and verify that the required collection properties have been conserved. The integrated Rule-Oriented Data System implements the data management framework required to support policy-based data management. Policies are turned into computer actionable Rules. Procedures are composed from a Micro-service-oriented architecture. The result is a highly extensible and tunable system that can enforce management policies, automate administrative tasks, and periodically validate assessment criteria.Table of Contents: Introduction / Integrated Rule-Oriented Data System / iRODS Architecture / Rule-Oriented Programming / The iRODS Rule System / iRODS Micro-services / Example Rules / Extending iRODS / Appendix A: iRODS Shell Commands / Appendix B: Rulegen Grammar / Appendix C: Exercises / Author Biographies
