John W. Tucker Integrity and God.s Man. The Foundation and Formation of Integrity

Integrity touches all of life, including every thought, act, and word we speak. It comes to us from our Creator, for it reflects his character in us. Due to our fallen nature, we do not comprehend its full capacity to transform us into Christ's likeness, but this is God's will ultimately. Integrity and God's Man is an in-depth Bible study on integrity for men, and author John Tucker invites men to cultivate their integrity in creative, challenging ways. Christian men can answer a number of questions: What is integrity in our personal walk with Christ? How is it formed? What circumstances ensure its presence in us? And what attitudes and lifestyles must we show for others to see Christ portrayed through us? Guided study through the Bible will help you answer these questions as you learn to build your Christian integrity. Everyone claims to have integrity, but it's more than just honesty and commitment. Biblical integrity links a man to the heart of God and to the souls of others. This truth is revealed in the passages of the Bible, so we must learn how to read, study, and live them as we open our hearts wider to God's plan for our understanding and growth in integrity.

Unfortunately, as author and English professor Gary R. Hafer explains, college and university educators often have little training in the use of writing in the classroom. Embracing Writing elucidates the principles of academic writing and shows instructors how to integrate writing with course content, blending them to enhance and deepen the higher education learning process. Scholarly writing is a central part of the academic experience and, when used effectively, can be an outstanding pedagogical tool. The creative approach in Embracing Writing will have you looking at writing in a whole new way. Not only will your students appreciate the honest, nurturing, and fun writing assignments, but your own writing will improve as well. This is not a rulebook for writers, but a guided approach to viewing writing and content as one indivisible whole. Embracing Writing will help you: Engage students in writing assignments that actually help them develop their writing ability Understand what makes good collegiate writing and how it can aid in content discovery Discover new pathways for your own writing so writing for publication and the classroom is enjoyable again Develop a writing pedagogy that doesn't detract from core course content delivery There often is a disconnect between administrative demands for in-course writing and the inadequate training resources available to faculty members. Because most of us aren't trained as writers, we need a meaningful way to connect writing to our areas of expertise. Embracing Writing provides that connection.

Agata Stachowicz-Stanusch Academic Ethos Management. Building the Foundation for Integrity in Management Education

This topical and much needed book constitutes an important part of the debate on the integrity in an academic context as a sine qua non of responsible management education. Like you, we've all been listening to the highly publicized corporate scandals and instances of management misconduct that have eroded public faith. Simultaneously, management scholars and educators have begun to question the assumptions underlying the traditional management education, which in their view not only contributed to a recent moral crisis but has also failed to prepare students and executives for coping with the responsible leadership challenges and ethical dilemmas that face managers in contemporary corporations. This book discusses, with stimulating examples, how universities should bring alive their core values. Using case studies and examples from universities from all over the world, you'll learn real practical advice and guidance, which explain in detail how you and other administrators and educators should discover, articulate, and institutionalize (implementation, securing and controlling by creating adequate policies, procedures process, etc.) university core values into academic daily activities and create a foundation for academy integrity.

Early chapters explore the organizational integrity of student affairs. Transactional and transformational leadership perspectives are discussed in the second section. Other contributing authors tie education to integrity. In their chapter, Dennis Roberts and Trudy Banta engage in a dialogue about the way student development theory should guide practice, and how its assessment is essential to maintain the integrity of our practice. Sue Saunders and Jennifer Lease Butts consider how we should teach integrity to graduate students and new professionals. Final chapters explore challenges to integrity ranging from those in the normal work routines, such as resident hall directors confronting late night parties or interoffice dynamics, to those faced in extraordinary circumstances such as the ones faced in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Karen Budzinski How to Build Children with Integrity

Raising the next generation of children is more distracting than ever. We want to raise children with purpose, who excel not only in their pursuits but in the character that makes them victorious when life throws them challenges. How do you give your children the best opportunities without feeding the narcissism prevalent in our selfie society? By giving them integrity. Building children requires integrity: the wholeness that comes from knowing who you are, what you stand for and what you live for. Integrity is consistent; it can be counted on. Building children with integrity helps them to own the ethics and character that will stand against the flood of social opposition to strong values. How to Build Children with Integrity is a toolbox of resources and ideas for parents and those who are involved with children. This book is meant to be used as a springboard to inspire people to think of how they can take normal everyday life and build something lasting in children along the way. As we dedicate ourselves to these tasks, results will follow.

The first book to focus on the electromagnetic basis of signal integrity The Foundations of Signal Integrity is the first of its kind—a reference that examines the physical foundation of system integrity based on electromagnetic theory derived from Maxwell's Equations. Drawing upon the cutting-edge research of Professor Paul Huray's team of industrial engineers and graduate students, it develops the physical theory of wave propagation using methods of solid state and high-energy physics, mathematics, chemistry, and electrical engineering before addressing its application to modern high-speed systems. Coverage includes: All the necessary electromagnetic theory needed for a complete understanding of signal integrity Techniques for obtaining analytic solutions to Maxwell's Equations for ideal materials and boundary conditions Plane electromagnetic waves Plane waves in compound media Transmission lines and waveguides Ideal models vs. real-world systems Complex permittivity of propagating media Surface roughness Advanced signal integrity Signal integrity simulations Problem sets for each chapter With its thorough coverage of this relatively new discipline, the book serves as an ideal textbook for senior undergraduate and junior graduate students, as well as a resource for practicing engineers in this burgeoning field. At the end of each section, it typically stimulates the reader with open-ended questions that might lead to future theses or dissertation research.

Mariana Goya-Martinez Hypertextual Networks of Concepts in Academic Writing

Writing and printing revolutionized the storage and preservation of knowledge. New writing technologies, such as the personal computer and hypertext, have not only different materiality but also non-linear characteristics that provide new ways of presenting, organizing, and manipulating texts, transforming the acts of reading and composing. Just as writing and printing facilitated the preservation and sharing of knowledge, the personal computer and the hypertext have the potential to foster associative networks of concepts in text and, arguably, in the writers' thinking. In this book, the author explores all the differences between traditional and electronic texts, and shows, by using network analysis techniques, changes in the structure of semantic networks of academic papers from 1976 to 2006. This study sheds light on how humans respond to new media technologies and should be of special interest to new media and communication scholars, or anyone else with interest in knowing how new technologies are shaping our culture and our world.

Academic Language in Second Language Learning

Language in academic settings, also referred to academic language, has gained attentionin the field of second language learning owing to new understandings of the complexitiesof language inherent in learning academic content, and new efforts to assessEnglish learners' language proficiency in the context of school learning. The conceptof academic language as distinct from social language has been in the academic literaturesince the mid-1950s, and surfaced as a major construct in the field of bilingualeducation in the 1980s. Many readers will be familiar with the ideas of BICS andCALP, first introduced by Jim Cummins in the 1980s. This book presents a critique ofacademic language as a separable construct from social language, and introduces currentresearch efforts to understand how English learners interact, interpret, and showunderstanding of language in academic contexts in ways that re-think and go beyondthe distinction between social and academic language. The book is organized into three main sections, each with a range of chapters that consider how academic language playsinto how children and youth learn academic content as emergent bilingual students in school settings. A Foreward andAfterward offer commentary on the book and its contents. The intended audience for this book is graduate students, teachereducators, and researchers interested in issues of language and content learning for English learners, the new mainstream ofschools across the nation. How good companies build a culture of integrity In the present environment of corporate governance brought on by high-profile executive scandals, this book makes a strong case for encouraging business leaders to manage beyond compliance. Achieving the bare minimum of compliance isn't enough. By making corporate responsibility and integrity a strategic priority-rather than something companies are forced to comply with-companies can realize tangible financial returns and benefits. This book provides practical advice, effective tools, and time-tested best practices for approaching corporate integrity strategically and managing an integrity program on a day-to-day basis. There is a growing realization that compliance with the rules is only a minimum standard of performance, and an increasing demand from stakeholders at every level – shareholders, employees, customers along the entire supply chain, consumers, advocacy groups, and the local community at large – for more transparency and accountability from corporations. But most businesses have little experience and few tools to deal with the urgent demand to increase corporate responsibility. Corporate Integrity provides practical tools and proven processes to manage complex integrity dilemmas and support implementation: Explains how to create a culture of integrity in your organization and how to motivate the appropriate corporate behaviors. Coverage includes: How to assess and measure integrity; how to align corporate integrity commitments and actions; how to design and implement dependable and strategic corporate accountability systems and processes; how to develop corporate integrity standards and report on them, and much more. Includes a wealth of practical business tools and best practices that readers can apply to improve the level of corporate integrity in their own company. Features three detailed case studies and numerous other examples that illustrate corporate integrity dilemmas and solutions in action. Shows how managing corporate responsibility strategically and proactively can go beyond a mere public relations exercise to foster a corporate «win» in the court of popular opinion and in the marketplace. Bridges the gaps between corporations, governments, employees, interest groups, and consumers. Offers tools and solutions that apply to both for-profit corporations and non-profit organizations.
