The molecular identification and sequencing of 18S rRNA gene were carried out from collected sponges. BLAST results shown the present sequence of Clathria reinwardti 18S rRNA with 1770 score and 92% identical with the Microcionidae family; 90% identical with the Mycale fibrexilis. Hence the marine sponges from Rameshwaram (South East Coast of India) showed 4% (sample 1) & 3% (sample 2) divergence from Clathria reinwardti (Vosmaer, 1880).

The objective of this study is to isolate extracellular cholesterol oxidase (CHO) producing microorganisms to obtain an abundant source of cholesterol oxidase (CHO) for industrial and medicinal needs. Cholesterol oxidase (CHO) is an enzyme, which catalyzes the oxidation of cholesterol and converts 5-cholesten-3-ol into 4- cholesten-3-one. Cholesterol oxidase producing bacteria were isolated from waste of regional oil mill, soil and compost. Twenty-five isolates are tested for cholesterol oxidase activity by screening method. As the result of the screening, CHO producer strain was isolated and identified.Screening and isolation of bacterial strains producing extracellular form of cholesterol oxidase are very important due to its wide spectrum applications. Cholesterol oxidase enzyme has many applications in medicine, agriculture, industry and pharmaceutical sectors.

Annually, tons of cellulosic waste is generated in urban areas in the form of newspaper, office paper etc. The present study was conducted for isolation of cellulolytic bacteria and to analyze their efficiency towards decomposition of cellulose urban waste that is newspaper. Isolation of potential cellulolytic bacteria and their ability to produce enzymes CMCase, FPase and β- glucosidase were studied. Cellulose is the basic structural material of plant cell wall, and as a result is the most plentiful carbohydrate that exists in environment. In the present study cellulose degrading bacterial isolate LC1 was isolated from decaying wood. Phenotypic characterization revealed that LC1 gram positive isolate belong to genus Bacillus cereus under accession number KC510288. Applicability of cellulolytic isolate LC1 was observed on one of cellulose urban waste i.e newspaper. This book, therefore, provides novel scopes and useful applications of microbes in industrial biotechnology, consequently waste will be managed and cellulase enzyme produced from these bacteria can be utilized for different biotechnological purposes conditions which will improve our environment and economy.

On the urge of urbanisation, the use of synthetic dyes is increasing largely and its untreated effluent release causes serious environmental pollution affecting water bodies by disturbing the aquatic ecosystem, soil, plants, animals, humans. The recalcitrant nature of these dyes limits its treatment using conventional methods wherein biological methods using microorganisms are reported to completely mineralize the dyes lowering the release of degradation products. The present work focuses on the biodegradation of synthetic dyes by isolating bacteria from a dyeing unit. Soil samples from the dye contaminated soils was collected, its degradation potentiality was observed using three major dye of studies congo red, brilliant green and methylene blue within 24 hr incubation. Maximum decoloarized dye (congo red and brilliant green) were chosen, serially diluted to 10-5 and plated to obtain two distinct colonies from decolorized congo red (CR1, CR2) and three distinct colonies from decolorized brilliant green (BG1, BG2, BG3). Hence, there is a need to identify high yielding clones of J. curcas for its further improvement. Molecular marker analysis in genome studies enhance the speed and efficiency of crop improvement, for that we need the protocols of DNA isolation; which is used to obtain high quality and quantity of DNA. Here the objective is to carry out comparative analysis of nine different DNA isolation protocols, from those only six methods were able to isolate DNA from such secondary metabolite producing plant, J. curcas. The most effective method of DNA isolation is modified CTAB method. The extracted DNA from the leaves of Jatropha curcas had 83% purity. A newly discovered, diverse sponge fauna of early Silurian age, is described from Gotland, Sweden. This is the first Silurian sponge assemblage known from Baltica, and the only diverse Llandoverian assemblage known worldwide. The fauna includes 20 genera and 29 species, of which three genera and six species are new. Eighteen species are new to Baltica. The fauna shows strong similarities to later Silurian assemblages in Arctic Canada, but one endemic species comprises ca. 50% of the fauna. The fauna shows that lithistid sponges recovered well from the late Ordovician extinction in some areas, and became widely spread in the early Silurian. In contrast, non-lithistid sponges like, such as hexactinellids, appear to have evolved rapidly during the Late Ordovician – early Silurian interval, and some modern groups probably originated in inshore habitats.

They are used to give life and richness to the language by taking the existing words, combining them in a new sense, and creating new meanings, just like a work of art." (LEN-NON, 1998, cited in BULUT; ÇELIK-YAZICI, 2004: 105)This combination of existing words "like a work of art" represents a huge challenge for non-native speakers they have to cope with in their language learning process. In the context of intercultural communication, non-native and native speakers interact with each other and often make use of idioms and other fixed expressions as "the colourful side of languages", because they are used to it from their usual communication in their first languages. However, these fixed expressions constitute a special part of the language use due to particular characteristics, which will be explored further in this term paper. Consequently, communication between non-native and native speakers does not always runs smoothly when phraseological language comes into play. This is why I decided to research this and focus on Native American beliefs, ideology and philosophy of life in my Master's Thesis. In my thesis I will not concentrate on one or several special tribes. Instead I will try to give a comprehensive survey of Native American religion in general. While doing so, I will always look for and give adequate examples that illustrate what I want to convey.I will divide this thesis into three parts. This book began life as a series of lectures given to second and third year undergraduates at Oxford University. These lectures were designed to give students insights as to how marine ecosystems functioned, how they were being affected by natural and human interventions, and how we might be able to conserve them and manage them sustainably for the good of people, both recreationally and economically. This book presents 10 chapters, beginning with principles of oceanography important to ecology, through discussions of the magnitude of marine biodiversity and the factors influencing it, the functioning of marine ecosystems at within trophic levels such as primary production, competition and dispersal, to different trophic level interactions such as herbivory, predation and parasitism. The final three chapters look at the more applied aspects of marine ecology, discussion fisheries, human impacts, and management and conservation. Other textbooks covering similar topics tend to treat the topics from the point of view of separate ecosystems, with chapters on reefs, rocks and deep sea. This book however is topic driven as described above, and each chapter makes full use of examples from all appropriate marine ecosystems. The book is illustrated throughout with many full colour diagrams and high quality photographs. The book is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students at colleges and universities, and it is hoped that the many examples from all over the world will provide global relevance and interest. Both authors have long experience of research and teaching in marine ecology. Martin Speight’s first degree was in marine zoology at UCNW Bangor, and he has taught marine ecology and conservation at Oxford for 25 years. His research students study tropical marine ecology from the Caribbean through East Africa to the Far East. Peter Henderson is a Senior Research Associate at the University of Oxford, and is Director of Pisces Conservation in the UK. Bachelor Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Engineering - Civil Engineering, , language: English, abstract: In this study, marine clay will be studied by mixing lime and cement in order to determine the strength development especially under ponding condition. The sample is classified based on AASTHO and USCS classification systems by using the Atterberg limits test (liquid limit and plastic limit) and the sieve analysis test, whereas Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) and the California Bearing Ratio test (CBR) were conducted to determine the strength before and after adding different percentages of lime and OPC cement. Treating marine clay is important for further purposed in construction and other infrastructure. Marine clay is considered as soft clay that can not resist heavy load and it found both in the littoral and in a few seaward ranges. The objective of this study is to determine physical and engineering properties of marine clay collected from Kuala Perlis, Malaysia, to investigate the improvement of strength of marine clay treated with lime and cement and investigate the long term effect of lime and cement in treatment marine clay under ponding condition.
