Moreover, PV water pumping system is getting more popular in recent days especially in remote areas to supply water where electricity is economically not available. The present study deals with the simulation of Photovoltaic (PV) based AC motor pumping system and DC motor pumping system equipped with Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) and without MPPT. We performed comparative tests of the two well-known MPPT 'the Perturbation and observation' (P&O) and the 'Incremental Conductance' (IncCond) algorithms using actual irradiance data for different climate conditions, and also explained of various MPPT algorithms and the modeling of PV module is discussed in this thesis.The PV pumping system with DC motor-pump load is simulated and described, whose study is carried out by using SimPowerSystem in MATLAB/SIMULINK and the model is then transfer into MATLAB. The whole system is implemented in MATLAB simulation, and verifies the functionality and benefits of MPPT. The operating point of the PV system depends upon the temperature, irradiation, wind speed, humidity and other environmental factors. To operate the photovoltaic system in a power efficient way, the designer should be well acquainted with the knowledge of photovoltaic behavior in terms of voltage, current and power. The task of an efficient PV system is to track the maximum operating point correctly so that optimum power can be received from the sun. Although the efficiency of the solar photo voltaic system is improving day by day but still optimum power has not been harnessed due to changes in temperature, irradiance and other factors that vary with places. The study has investigated the change in volume of water pumped by using maximum power point tracking mechanism and its benefits to the end user. The work is based on the maximum power transfer theory. The DC-DC converter will match the impedance of the photovoltaic module with the load by generating appropriate duty cycle that will be used to turn ON or OFF the electronic switch of the converter. Hence, this study is intended to design and simulate an efficient MPPT based PV tracking system for pumping application.

PV technology is becoming a promising alternative source for fossil fuels. However, Power Quality (PQ) is the major concern that occurs between the grid and an end user. Any typical electrical distribution system exhibits a passive characteristic with respect to power flows when power flows from a substation to load. However, with inclusion of solar PV generators, this behaviour tends to be changed. The main characteristics related to PQ, such as voltage level, frequency, power factor and Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), may be affected.This book presents the analysis of PQ with the integration of grid-connected PV systems as distributed generation. The role of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique is investigated through implementing few basic MPPT techniques. Using the Matlab-simulation platform, the analysis of PQ is demonstrated. This analysis is based on real measurements of THD, Voltage levels, Current levels, DC voltage levels, real power and reactive power flows.

This book presents a Sun tracking design, whereby the movement of a photovoltaic module was controlled to follow the Sun's radiation using a Light Dependent Resistors (LDR) and the power source of PV tracking are coming from solar-powered Stirling engine. The results will decrease the power for operating solar tracking system by selecting the solar-powered Stirling engine as the power source for motor of solar tracking system. All electronic circuits and the necessary software have been designed and developed to perform the technical tasks.

The simulation results demonstrate the improvement in the performance of the system for each of the above FACTS controller in terms of power profile and voltage stability. The results are then compared to determine the best controller for a given operating condition.

The global warming phenomenon as a significant sustainability issue is gaining worldwide support for development of renewable energy technologies. The term “polygeneration” is referred to as “an energy supply system, which delivers more than one form of energy to the final user.” For example, electricity, cooling and desalination can be delivered from a polygeneration process. The polygeneration process in a hybrid solar thermal power plant can deliver electricity with less impact on the environment compared to a conventional fossil fuel-based power generating system. It is also THE next generation energy production technique with the potential to overcome the undesirable intermittence of renewable energy systems. In this study, the polygeneration process simultaneous production of power, vapor absorption refrigeration (VAR) cooling and multi-effect humidification and dehumidification (MEHD) desalination system from different heat sources in hybrid solar-biomass (HSB) system with higher energy efficiencies (energy and exergy), primary energy savings (PES) and payback period are investigated, focusing on several aspects associated with hybrid solar-biomass power generation installations, such as wide availability of biomass resources and solar direct normal irradiance (DNI), and other technologies. Thermodynamic evaluation (energy and exergy) of HSB power has also been investigated, along with the VAR cooling system, the modelling, simulation, optimization and cost analysis of the polygeneration hybrid solar biomass system, all accompanied by multiple case studies and examples for practical applications. This volume provides the researcher, student and engineer with the intellectual tool needed for understanding new ideas in this rapidly emerging field. The book is also intended to serve as a general source and reference book for the professional (consultant, designer, contractor etc.) who is working in the field of solar thermal, biomass, power plant, polygeneration, cooling and process heat.
