Water production has been introduced as a severe and complicated issue in oil industry over the last two decades, and its' control has always been one of the most critical challenges in the oil fields. During the production life of oil wells, water is produced from the producer well due to the encroachment of water from aquifer or injected water in the reservoir, and sometimes the volume of water produced is much higher than the volume of oil produced. However, water can play an important role in maintaining reservoir pressure; it needs to be shut off when its' percentage reaches uneconomical limits. Excessive water production in oil fields results in a restriction of oil production and creates several production problems, including high lifting cost, producing corrosion and scale in production facilities and even sand production. In addition, high costs are incurred to separate, treat and dispose of the produced water. Produced water also contains organic and inorganic minerals which have a substantial negative impact on the environment.

Near-field microwave microscopy has been used as a non-destructive tool for current distribution mapping in high-Tc superconductors and other conducting films at room temperature. The focused microwave emitted from the tip of a near-field scanning microwave microprobe is absorbed in the thin film in a small spot of size approximately same as the size of the probe tip. The heat will spread into the adjacent regions in the thin film sample through thermal diffusion. The temperature rise due to local heating will lead to the change in the local resistivity of the sample which results in a voltage response depending on the local current density and the input microwave power. The map of voltage response acquired while the microwave probe scans the film surface can provide information about the surface morphology and the non-uniformity of the electromagnetic properties of the film. Hence in order to understand the absorption of microwave radiation in conducting thin films, a theoretical model based on heat diffusion is developed in this book to determine how the different parameters affect the temperature rise and heat diffusion.

Herethe SOS performance of counteracting oil disasters at open sea is closely examined.As a result of the evaluation of the functional principle of the system, it isfound that the SOS shows a higher efficiency compared to existing oil recoverysystems - especially in high seas.The SOS does not feature any moving parts. The system consists of a moonpool (oil dike) and a pontoon (bow segment), which glides on the heavily moving,oil polluted water surface, damping the waves. As a result of this arrangement,the oil layer to flows underneath the pontoon towards a transverse blade, whichseparates the oil from the water and protects the moon pool from wave effects.At the trailing edge of the bow segment a vortex develops, accelerating the oilparticles in addition to their positive buoyancy towards the water surface of themoon pool. The wave-induced motions of the system cause sloshing effects ofthe fluid within the oil dike. These sloshing motions convey the oil particles overan adjustable slope into an oil sump from where they can be pumped off in aconcentrated form.

In recent years, there is an increasing in novel forms of surfactants, particularly in Gemini surfactants. In these investigation, five Cationic Gemini surfactants were prepared (C10 - 2BU - C10), (C10 - 2DI - C10), (C12 - 2BU - C12), (C14 - 2SU - C14) and (C14 - 2Pr - C14). Then these compounds were identified by FT - IR, C.H.N., GC - MS, 1H NMR and 13C NMR. It was found that novel quaternary ammonium Gemini surfactants with hydroxyl groups which consist of two conventional surfactants joined by a spacer at the head group. The CMC and HLB were determined for the prepared surfactants to evaluate them. Where these surfactants are superior to the corresponding conventional surfactants in a number of aspects such as a lower critical micelle concentration (CMC), a higher efficiency in reducing the oil/water interfacial tension.Effective separation of water-in-crude oil emulsions is a central challenge for the oil industry, especially with the future increase in down-hole processing of well-fluids. So that five demulsifiers were prepared (2BU - C10), (2DI - C10), (2BU - C12), (2SU - C14) and (2Pr - C14) in different concentrations(10, 20, 30, 40, 50) ppm.

The composition of water coproduced with oil during drilling and production contains certain substances that are harmful to the environment. Heavy metals, dispersed and dissolved oil, and production chemicals are toxicants both to human beings as well as marine life. For this reason, produced water is usually separated from the crude oil and treated prior to being discharged into the environment. The current conventional method of treating produced water employs mechanical treatment in particular hydrocyclones which are very costly to operate and maintain. The search for alternative ways that are more cost effective for treating produced water such as using natural waste for treatment is a continuous one. The focus of conducting this research is to study the oil adsorption characteristics of dried Khaya Senegalensis leaves in produced water and to investigate the effect of temperature and initial oil concentration on oil sorption efficiency of the dried leaves.

Oil and natural gas were formed from the remains of prehistoric plant and animals. The oil and gas that formed in the source rock deep within the earth moved upward through tiny, connected pore spaces in the rocks. Reservoirs are not underground "lakes" of oil; reservoirs are made up of porous and permeable rocks that can hold significant amounts of oil and gas within their pore spaces. Most reservoirs contain oil, gas, and water. Technological innovation makes it easier to find new deposits of oil and gas and to get more oil or gas from each reservoir that is discovered. The reservoir performance is predicted by mathematical modeling of the reservoir or reservoir simulation. The initial oil, gas, water saturation and pressure are specified. Oil Shales are usually fine-grained sedimentary rocks containing relatively large amounts of organic matter from which significant quantities of shale oil and combustible gas can be extracted. Included in most definitions of oil shale, is the potential for the profitable extraction of shale oil and combustible gas or for burning as a fuel. Total world resources of oil shale are estimated to be 2.6 trillion barrels.

Replacing fuels or electricity for heating, solar water heating systems can substantially reduce a household's energy demand. Despite the economic and environmental benefits, several barriers hinder the broader adoption of solar water heating in Bolivia. These include an investment barrier due to the high upfront costs, lack of awareness and little confidence in the technology. This study investigated whether carbon finance can contribute to overcoming these barriers: Access of the voluntary carbon market by registering a micro-scale project activity verified by the Gold Standard (GS) was investigated. Potential financial benefits were studied from both a project developer and an end-user perspective.

HIGH LEVELS OF RADIONUCLIDES WERE ALSO PRESENT BEYOND THE MAXIMUM DAILY INTAKE FOR URANIUM. THE PALM OIL SAMPLES WERE RELATIVELY OK COMPARED TO THEIR WATER COUNTERPART.

Project Report from the year 2017 in the subject Engineering - Industrial Engineering and Management, , language: English, abstract: The conventional approach of biodiesel production is transesterification, using oil and alcohol in the presence of a catalyst with glycerol as a by-product of the reaction. Product quality is dependent on the type and amount of catalyst, type of oil feedstock, alcohol-to-oil ratio, etc. In terms of the best process, currently the alkali catalyzed process is the most profitable while the enzymatic based one is even more promising due to the lower consumption of energy and water; however it requires that the enzyme cost is reduced. The reason that biodiesel is not utilized widely around the world is due to the high cost of raw materials. To overcome this, one can use lower quality oils, such as Waste Cooking Oil (WCO). A lot of research has been carried out on the production of biodiesel from fresh vegetable and animal oil sources but the use of Waste Cooking Oil, such as palm oil, etc. has not been well documented. Then the aim of this current project is to analyze and optimize the conditions for biodiesel production from Waste Cooking Oil, by investigating interaction effects among process variables (temperature, oil-to-methanol molar ratio and catalyst loading) using SPC and other tools. Thus this project focuses on making biodiesel processes better and more efficient.

Eggshell and membranes which are largely disposed of as waste are a reserve of many bioactive compounds with high economic and monetary value which can be extracted by the efficient separation of eggshell and membrane. Hence, this work concentrates on finding a suitable method for separating the eggshell from membrane. First, the effect of microwave treatment on separation of eggshell and membrane was investigated. The response of a material to electromagnetic radiation depends upon its dielectric properties; therefore, the study of the dielectric properties of eggshell and membrane was carried out in the range of 200 MHz to 20 GHz and in the temperature range of 25 0C to 100 0C. In the second part of the study, the effectiveness of microwave treatment on separation of eggshell and membrane was analyzed in terms of reduction in total energy required to separate the eggshell and membrane and was termed as bond energy. For all microwave treatments, three factors with three levels each were considered. A Model for calculating the bond energy between the eggshell and membrane for all microwave treatments was established.
