Ad-hoc network has opened a new dimension in wireless networks. It allows wireless nodes to communicate with each other in the absence of centralised support. It does not follow any fixed infrastructure because of the mobility of nodes and multi-path propagations. Link instability and node mobility make routing a core issue in MANETs. A suitable and effective routing mechanism helps to extend the successful deployment of MANETs. In this book, we have studied details of TORA, LDR and ZRP routing protocols which are routing protocols on use in MANET. The effects on the routing efficiencies with a special focus on the pause time, scalability and node density using throughput, network load, end- to-end delay and packet delivery ratio as indices of performance evaluation for FTP traffic were observed by using OPNET 14.0 modular as simulation tool. Based on our observations from literature and empirical study conducted using OPNET, we have found that among the three protocols, no single protocol can successfully provide optimum efficiency in different MANET scenarios.

To help rebuilding a system properly, there exist formalistic descriptions of systems‘ behavior. One of several system specification formalisms, the DEVS formalism and associated abstract simulator algorithms provide the bases of this work. The DEVS formalism offers ways to describe systems which change their state driven by events at discrete times. Several implementations for computer aided simulation based on the DEVS formalism and associated abstract simulator concepts using object-orientated programming languages exist. One of those implementations, the MatlabDEVS simulation runtime system was modified and improved during this project and MatlabDEVS2, a modified version was developed. To make improvement possible, a proper understanding of the fundamental theories is indispensable. Hence, they are exhibited as a part of this work. Because the modeler should be supported by the computer application while passing the process of modeling and simulation, the user interfaces are crucial for the quality of the system. In this book, we present a comprehensive workflow for characterizing and modeling a fracture network in unconventional reservoirs, using microseismic data. The methodology is based on combination of several mathematical and artificial intelligent techniques. This book contributes to scholarly knowledge base on the modeling fractured reservoirs in several ways; unlike the existing methods, the new approach is not dependent on the location of events. It offers an improved procedure to create compressional and shear velocity models as a preamble for delineating anomalies and map structures of interest and to correlate velocity anomalies with fracture swarms. It also offers an effective way to obtain the fractal dimension of microseismic events and identify the pattern complexity, connectivity, and mechanism of the created fracture network. In final chapter, we Introduce a newly developed MDFN approach that allows to create a discrete fracture network model using only microseismic data with potential cost reduction. It also imposes fractal dimension as a constraint on other fracture modeling, which increases the visual similarity between the modeled networks and the real network.

There has been a constant bombardment of worms over the internet recently. In some cases, the spread of these worms was pandemic. Worms have continued to threaten network security - creating unnecessary network data traffic causing network congestion - in addition to the payload they usually carry. In this book, we derive and simulate some deterministic models, under a novel concept, for estimating the propagation of a worm to vulnerable networks or/and computers through networks; and analyse, using the same concept, some known effects of worm propagation. We also derive some graphical models for analyses of the effect of worm propagation on a vulnerable network, and possible state of any node on the network vis-à-vis human countermeasures, solve problems applying the models, and make inferences. Our deterministic models, when compared with that of the Code Red worm, are found to conform to reality. This work should help researchers, computer security firms and professionals to understand the epidemic dynamics of the threats posed by worms, predict future threats, and should also assist in the development of new containment measures.

This book deals with a three dimensional virtual reality simulation environment. The simulation consists of two soldiers controlled by the user (user soldiers) and nine enemy soldiers for each environment. Each enemy soldier guards a specific point in each environment and is controlled by the computer. Enemy soldiers are alarmed when they see user soldier dead or alive, or when they see another enemy soldier alarmed. There are two versions of the software, the client and the server. The client can be operated from another computer that has a network connection with the computer that is operating the server version of the software. The user can use the mouse and the standard keyboard as an input device for shooting enemies, while Wii Remote or GPS can be used to move the soldier in the environment. The project consists of several systems that are designed separately and used by processes to achieve different tasks. The 3D objects were designed using programs like 3D Studio Max 9 and Milkshape 3D. The soldiers were animated using Character FX 1.3.4. The programming was done using the Microsoft C# 2008 programming language and the Microsoft XNA 3.0 graphics library.
