Milan Kvakovský The Heat Pumps

The heat pump is a machine that draws heat from one place to another investment of external work. Usually it is from the colder to warmer place. Heating heat pump is a device that uses non-traditional sources of energy for central heating and hot water. The basic view of heat pumps is that the planet's global temperature regime is directly added heat from the combustion of any fuel. Indirectly, there is a certain amount of heat in power plants - the production of electricity consumed for heat pump operation. In the first part of my project I explain the heat pump principles. Then are described the heat sources for heat pumps, divide the heat pumps depending on driving mechanisms, heat sources and using energy. This part also described the heat pumps like water to water type, earth to water type, air to water type, the basic parts of the heat pump like compressor and convertible of heat. Second part describes using the heat pumps like onditioning, heat pump like alternative source in household and different systems. The third part contains calculations of heat decreases and heat pump design. Finally are compared different types of heating with heat pump.

Some 200 years after the original invention, internal design of a Stirling engine has come to be considered a specialist task, calling for extensive experience and for access to sophisticated computer modelling. The low parts-count of the type is negated by the complexity of the gas processes by which heat is converted to work. Design is perceived as problematic largely because those interactions are neither intuitively evident, nor capable of being made visible by laboratory experiment. There can be little doubt that the situation stands in the way of wider application of this elegant concept. Stirling Cycle Engines re-visits the design challenge, doing so in three stages. Firstly, unrealistic expectations are dispelled: chasing the Carnot efficiency is a guarantee of disappointment, since the Stirling engine has no such pretentions. Secondly, no matter how complex the gas processes, they embody a degree of intrinsic similarity from engine to engine. Suitably exploited, this means that a single computation serves for an infinite number of design conditions. Thirdly, guidelines resulting from the new approach are condensed to high-resolution design charts – nomograms. Appropriately designed, the Stirling engine promises high thermal efficiency, quiet operation and the ability to operate from a wide range of heat sources. Stirling Cycle Engines offers tools for expediting feasibility studies and for easing the task of designing for a novel application. Key features: Expectations are re-set to realistic goals. The formulation throughout highlights what the thermodynamic processes of different engines have in common rather than what distinguishes them. Design by scaling is extended, corroborated, reduced to the use of charts and fully Illustrated. Results of extensive computer modelling are condensed down to high-resolution Nomograms. Worked examples feature throughout. Prime movers (and coolers) operating on the Stirling cycle are of increasing interest to industry, the military (stealth submarines) and space agencies. Stirling Cycle Engines fills a gap in the technical literature and is a comprehensive manual for researchers and practitioners. In particular, it will support effort world-wide to exploit potential for such applications as small-scale CHP (combined heat and power), solar energy conversion and utilization of low-grade heat.

Green communications is a very hot topic. As mobile networks evolve in terms of higher rates/throughput, a consequent impact on operating costs is due to (aggregate) network energy consumption. As such, design on 4G networks and beyond have increasingly started to focus on `energy efficiency’ or so-called ‘green’ networks. Many techniques and solutions have been proposed to enhance the energy efficiency of mobile networks, yet no book has provided an in-depth analysis of the energy consumption issues in mobile networks nor has detailed theories, tools and solutions for solving the energy efficiency problems. This book presents the techniques and solutions for enhancing energy efficiency of future mobile networks, and consists of three major parts. The first part presents a general description of mobile network evolution in terms of both capacity and energy efficiency. The second part discusses the advanced techniques to green mobile networks. The third part discusses the solutions that enhance mobile network energy efficiency as well as provides future directions. The recent rise to prominence of renewable energy and energy efficiency has been driven by their potential to lower the environmental impacts of energy use. As these technologies mature they must demonstrate not only their environmental benefits, but also their economic competitiveness. The relative costs and benefits of each potential project, whether large or small, must be systematically modelled and assessed before they can be financed and implemented. Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency: Assessment of Projects and Policies deals with the appraisal of such projects against financial and non-financial criteria, illustrating the assessment tools necessary to make appropriate, evidence based decisions as efficiently as possible. The most important technologies are first described, stressing their economic and performance characteristics. Key project appraisal concepts are then introduced, approaches to modelling the cash flows in energy projects are described, and the issues of uncertainty and optimisation are fully discussed. These financial concepts, together with methods for estimating greenhouse gas emissions, are extended to address aspects of energy policy. Illustrated with many case studies this is an ideal introduction to financial and non-financial appraisal techniques as applied to energy efficient and renewable energy technologies.

Depending on the pollutant type, certain wastewater treatment technologies can be very energy intensive. This "Diplomarbiet" looks at Catalytic Wet Air Oxidation (CWAO) for treatment of organic contaminated waste water. With an aim to reduce energy consumption a new catalyst was designed to enable total oxidation of organic contaminants in water at a much lower temperature compared to existing catalysts. This in turn allows to operate the CWAO at much lower operating pressures as compared to conventional CWAO utilizing noble metal catalysts. The catalyst also demonstrated good stability and activity over extended period and no significant leaching was observed. Low temperature CWAO is an effective technology for treatment of organic contaminated waste and its application range can be extended if coupled with other wastewater treatment technologies.

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2011 in the subject Computer Science - Internet, New Technologies, grade: 10.00, , course: Ph.D., language: English, abstract: As per recommendations of International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000), the future wireless communication is bound to occupy the features including high-speed data and broadband transmission, high capacity to support a huge number of simultaneous users, global mobility, high security, and scalable quality of service (QoS) along with low cost for both operators and subscribers. The above features are imposing technical challenges on system design and stimulating various research topics on capacity, complexity and performance. In order to increase the capacity of wireless networks, various multiple access schemes have been reported in the literature. The credit of most competent multiple access scheme in 2G systems goes to CDMA scheme which offers an even better bandwidth-efficiency than TDMA and FDMA schemes, however, its implementation is quite difficult due to involvement of rather complex technologies including complex power-control, and multiuser detection techniques etc. The requirement of alternate mechanism for user separation has been solved by Interleave-Division Multiple-Access (IDMA) scheme, in which, most of above stated problems do not exist due to application of user-specific interleavers having low cross-correlation amongst them. The interleaved data resulted from user-specific inte...

Mehdi Arjmand Thermochemical Recovery of Heat

Chemical recuperation of heat has gained significant interest due to higher magnitude of reaction heat compared to that of the latent heat in conventional (physical) recovery. In particular, two concepts have been identified which engage chemical reactions within the process: Chemical Recuperation of Heat through Fuel Synthesis and Chemical Recuperation of Heat through Reaction Coupling. The first concept uses the recovery of surplus heat by chemically manipulating the fuel through an endothermic reaction. The result is the generation of a secondary fuel within the cycle which can be used to reduce the process primary fuel consumption and thus increase the overall efficiency. Based on the second concept, one can temporally store the heat using a pair of endothermic/exothermic reactions for later release to system or continuous upgrade of the heat temperature level. It is of interest if the chemical recuperation of heat can be realized through integration of the two concepts. The inclusion of chemical reactions for recuperation of heat will form the next phase in the heat recovery sector as it offers the possibility of extracting a vast remnant of waste heats.

Thomas Meyer Entwicklung eines Kalteprozesses zur Nutzung der Exzessenthalpie beim Losen von Salzen in Wasser

Diplomarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Technik, Note: 1,3, Technische Universität Berlin (Institut für Energietechnik), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: The growing air conditioning demand coupled with the mostly common political will for reduction of greenhouse gases leads to new considerations according to energy effciency. On the one hand the efficiency of the particular cooling process has to be improved and on the other hand the synergetic implementation of this process in existing energy systems has to be pushed.Thermal driven cooling processes provide an excellent opportunity to increase the efficiency of the overall energy system by generating valuable cooling power using waste or solar heat. Beside the several well-known thermal driven cooling processes like Absorption, Adsorption Chillers and Desiccant Cooling Systems, this study introduces a new cooling process. This novel process uses the endothermal enthalpy of solution while dissolving the respective salt in water. Using the example of ammonium nitrate dissolved in water, algebraic functions for the vapor pressure and the enthalpy of this solution are formulated. Several equipment variations are proposed, stationary balanced and calculated. Starting with a Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 0.04 heat recovery installations and the use of a ten stage flash evaporator improve the COP up to 0.24.
