Musadaq Mohanad Comparison Study of T-spline and NURBS in Modeling and Machining

This book uses T-spline for surface modeling and compares it with NURBS modeling to get the best modeling points between the two methods. The comparison will be through surface analysis and manufacturing process.T-Splines surfaces typically have 50-70% less geometric data structure than the equivalent NURBS surface, allowing for faster and more controlled direct editing and shape optimization. In Naked Edges analysis, the T-Spline surface for the models has a number of naked edge less than the NURBS surface, in measurement runtime for machining (roughing and finishing), the T-spline surface for the bicycle seat model is machined in (16 minutes) less than machining the NURBS surface, and the T-Spline surface of the longitudinal section of the bottle model is machined in (10 minutes) less than machining the NURBS surface. In measurement of roughness, the T-Spline surface for the bicycle seat model has (2.4861 μm) average (Ra) for patches measured roughness average (Ra), and the NURBS surface has (4.9216 μm) average (Ra) for patches measured roughness average (Ra).

Biswas Ahsanul Karim Surface modification of aramid fiber by air DBD plasma

Twaron aramid fibers (AFs) were modified by atmospheric air dielectric barrier discharge plasma with various parameters. The wettability of plasma-treated AF was observed by means of contact angle and surface free energy measurement. Surface roughness was investigated with the help of scanning electron microscopy. Energy-dispersive X-ray analysis was used to measure the chemical composition of AF in volume with one micrometer dimension. The tensile test of AF roving was carried out to determine the effect of plasma surface treatments on the mechanical properties of the fibers. A pull-out force test was carried out to observe the adhesion effect with matrix material. Lower contact angles, increase of oxygen concentration at the fiber surface, surface roughness and increase of pull-out force with the rubber matrix were observed after the air plasma treatment.

Rupinder Singh, Vipul Sharma Plastic component replicas by silicon moulding process

The purpose of the present study is to experimentally investigate and optimize the mould fabrication process, based on vacuum casting for plastic component. Starting from the identification of component, prototype with three different types of material were prepared under three different conditions of temperature, time and mixing ratio. Measurements on the coordinate measuring machine helped in calculating the dimensional tolerances of the plastic components produced. Further relation between hardness, dimensional accuracy and surface roughness in vacuum casting and other controllable parameter has been deduced by Taguchi technique L9 orthogonal array (OA). The study highlighted the optimized input parameter settings in-terms of dimensional accuracy, surface roughness, micro-hardness for plastic components. Final component produced are acceptable as per IS standard UNI EN 20286-I (1995) and DIN 16901 standards for plastics.

Eyüp Aksoy The Effects of Subliminal Cues on Information Seeking and Evaluation of Google Search Results

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Psychology - Cognition, grade: 1.0, University of Cologne (DP Psychologie), language: English, abstract: In this bachelor thesis, based on the findings by Karremans, Stroebe, and Claus (2006), the effectiveness of subliminal cues on choice behavior was transposed to the online search environment. To give a clear answer for this matter, possibilities but also dangers of online information seeking and subliminal perception have been investigated. Subliminal stimuli seem to have great potential for this matter since there is much similarity (Strahan, Spencer, and Zanna, 2002) between the factors that make subliminal stimuli effective and the online search environment (i.e. need for information and goal relevance). An online survey was conducted trying to investigate that goal priming effects subsequent evaluation, but only when certain conditions interact with persons' attitudes. Half of 98 participants were subliminally primed with the Google ad-icon "Anzeige" and subsequently evaluate on online advertisement and search engines. The results indicated that priming positively influences the evaluation on online advertisement and search engines, regardless of participants' attitudes towards online search.

Gupta Munish Kumar, Singh Gauravdeep Investigations Into Turning En-24 Steel with Cryogenic Cooling

In this work the experimental study on turning of EN24 alloy steel is performed. Experiments are performed under dry, wet and cryogenic cutting conditions using uncoated tungsten carbide tool having standard geometry by varying the spindle speed (RPM) and feed (mm/rev). The experiments are performed to investigate the effect of different input parameters on tool wear (mm), surface roughness (um), tool tip temperature (oC) and tool forces i.e. feed force (Ff) and cutting force (Fc). Experimental results indicate that cryogenic cooling is one of the most favorable cooling method for turning process due to being capable of bringing considerable decline in tool wear and improvement in surface finish through control of machining temperature at the cutting zone.

As pedagogy is the study of teaching, pedagogy of evaluation examines how and what evaluation teaches. This volume is inspired by the works of Paulo Freire who believed that all interactions between people are pedagogical: something is always being taught, conveyed, and proselytized (the same could be said of evaluation). Freirean principles, though articulated nearly 50 years ago, offer and affirm future directions for dealing with inequality, poverty, social injustice, community development, education, and, to the point here, evaluation. The principles remain fresh and timely, and new. Divided into three parts, the editors invite you to use Freire?s works to reflect on your pedagogy of evaluation. The Future of Evaluation in Society. A Tribute to Michael Scriven

The impetus for this volume lives in a rich and vibrant past. It is organized to honor one of thefounders and most prolific contributors to the professional and transdiscipline of evaluation --Professor Michael Scriven, and to illuminate the future of evaluation in society. Professor Scrivenoften shares stories of his meetings with Albert Einsten and the frame-breaking evaluation revolutionhe has led against the value free doctrine of the social sciences. Both his wide eyed graduatestudents and the more grizzled evaluation veterans in his professional development workshopsquickly learn that Scriven is well traveled and has exchanged some of the boldest ideas and visions with the most brilliant thinkers ofhis time. Scriven insisted that the 2011 Stauffer Symposium and this volume be organized in that genre. He urged us to invite the mostthoughtful and influential evaluation theorists and practitioners we could find to join him in a conversation about the future of evaluationin society.Scriven challenges us to examine the five great paradigm shifts that have revolutionized the foundations of evaluation, and that hebelieves will form the basis for a much brighter future for evaluation in society. Scriven's revolutionary ideas are followed and challengedby a group of thought leaders in evaluation who do not necessarily shared his views on evaluation, but who have earned hisdeepest respect and whose evaluation work he admires including Michael Quinn Patton, Ernest House, Danie...

This issue broaden the field’s understanding of Research on Evaluation (RoE) in practice, with a focus on empirical RoE. Considering the full collection of RoE studies, it defines RoE as systematic empirical inquiry resulting in original findings or in reexaminations of existing data about the practice, methods, or profession of program evaluation. RoE inquiries address: the inputs into evaluations, the contexts within which evaluations are conducted, the full range of methods and activities of evaluations, evaluation’s proximal or distal effects, or the professional issues that evaluators encounter. The inquiries include case studies, reflective narratives, studies about evaluation methods, literature reviews, oral histories, bibliometric studies, meta-evaluations, experiments, longitudinal studies, simulations, and time-series studies. Participatory Evaluation Up Close. An Integration of Research-Based Knowledge

Empiricism provides the backbone of knowledge creation within social science disciplines (e.g., psychology, sociology) and applied domains of study (e.g., education, administration) alike. Yet, relative to such domainsof inquiry, comparatively little empirical research on evaluation has occurred, and the research knowledge basebeen infrequently synthesized and integrated to influence theory and practice. The proposed book aims to fillthis void with regard to participatory evaluation, a set of collaborative approaches to evaluation that isreceiving considerable attention of late, including a growing body of empirical studies. The authors begin in Part 1 with the delineation of a widely known and familiar conceptual framework forparticipatory evaluation. They then use the framework in Part 2 as a guide to conducting an extensive review of the extant empirical knowledge base inparticipatory evaluation, culminating in a thematic analysis of what we know about the approach. In Part 3 the authors focus on methodologicalconsiderations of doing research on participatory evaluation through a critique of existing studies and an explication of design choices drawn fromtheir own research program. The book concludes in Part 4 with implications for moving the field forward in terms of important research questions, methodological direction and evaluation practice. This book will be of central interest to evaluation theorists and to those who choose to conduct research on evaluation; appeal will...

Hear from evaluation practitioners throughout Latin America. In this region program evaluation is an emergent practice, one that is shaped by distinctive geopolitical and social contexts and has its own intellectual biography. Through a selection of writings and cases this issue provides a window on program evaluation in this region. The articles indicate a range of experiences and concerns that respond to the countries’ unique histories and cultures. Articles by evaluators from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Peru illustrate new directions and are grouped around the following themes: Strategic use of evaluation in public policies and active citizenship Innovative project evaluation examples Evaluation capacity building and institutionalization. The widespread development of participatory or actor-oriented approaches, based on qualitative methodologies that have a particularly Latin American stamp, are emphasized in this issue. Remi Bauer The Utilisation of Summative Event Evaluation by Organisers

Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,5, Leeds Metropolitan University (Carnegie Faculty), course: International Events Management, language: English, abstract: In the events industry, post-event evaluation is becoming more and more recognised as a respected management tool for measuring success and a utensil for specifying whether objectives are accomplished. Yet, publications by academics and scholars have mostly overlooked the area which investigates the approaches organisers take for evaluating their events. To address this research gap, this study examines the evaluation approaches taken by student night organisers within the city of Leeds. Student nights are defined as events taking place during late-night hours, being part of the night-time economy, which is a unique, unrepeatable and spatio-temporally restricted happening that specifically targets the student market of a city. The paper outlines that this is a relevant market segment for event organisers due to its size. With an internet content analysis and an online questionnaire, student night organisers' opinions on evaluation and their approaches to assess success were investigated. With the empirical research, the dissertation shows that post-event evaluation theories, specifically goal-attainment models, are put partially into practice within the night-time economy. However, student night organisers in the city of Leeds do not take advantage of the ...

Practical Program Evaluation: Assessing and Improving Planning, Implementation, and Effectiveness

"Practical Program Evaluation: Assessing and Improving Planning, Implementation, and Effectiveness" introduces students to the real world of evaluation, focusing on issues that arise in professional practice. Author Huey T. Chen concentrates on the steps vital to program evaluation: systematically identifying stakeholder needs, selecting evaluation options best suited to particular needs and reconciling any necessary tradeoffs, and turning the decisions into action. Using illustrative examples from the field, the book details the methods and procedures involved in analyzing and identifying stakeholder expectations and selecting an evaluation strategy. The principles and strategies presented are reinforced with theoretical justification. This provides students and professional evaluators the knowledge and flexibility to design suitable evaluations and follow them through from start to finish.

W. Edwards Deming referred the 'understanding of systems' as being a key principle for quality thinking. In this instance, as it currently stands the organisation under examination is operating two major units: A business unit and an educational unit. This is reflected in the current method of organisational evaluation as shown throughout this research, with the use of two separate evaluation methods: the Baldrige Educational Performance Excellence Criteria and New Zealand Educational Authority's required Six Tertiary Evaluation Indicators. Through the development of a single evaluation tool the needs of the 'whole' organisation can be determined, which will aid in the deployment of resources and innovation to ensure the whole organisation benefits. Presently from the information obtained through the two separate evaluation methods, innovation and advancement made in one unit will have adverse effects on another.

While improvement science has experienced a surge of interest over the past 30 years, applications of it are rare in the evaluation literature. This issue promotes the cross-fertilization of ideas, techniques, and tools between evaluation and improvement science. There are at least four areas where this cross-fertilization is particularly relevant: learning from error, examining variation, appreciating context, and focusing on systems change. This volume considers: the conceptual similarities and distinctions between improvement science and evaluation; the intellectual foundations, methods, and tools that collectively comprise improvement science; and case chapters that offer an inspiring review of state-of-the-art improvement science applications. Cutting across all of these applications is a shared grounding in systems thinking, a determination to capture and better understand variation and contextual complexity, as well as a sustained commitment to generative learning about projects and programs—all issues of great concern to evaluators. The issue offers producers and users of evaluations the potential benefits of a closer engagement with improvement science. This is the 153rd issue in the New Directions for Evaluation series from Jossey-Bass. It is an official publication ofthe American Evaluation Association.

Covers the fundamental science of grinding and polishing by examining the chemical and mechanical interactions over many scale lengths Manufacturing next generation optics has been, and will continue to be, enablers for enhancing the performance of advanced laser, imaging, and spectroscopy systems. This book reexamines the age-old field of optical fabrication from a materials-science perspective, specifically the multiple, complex interactions between the workpiece (optic), slurry, and lap. It also describes novel characterization and fabrication techniques to improve and better understand the optical fabrication process, ultimately leading to higher quality optics with higher yield. Materials Science and Technology of Optical Fabrication is divided into two major parts. The first part describes the phenomena and corresponding process parameters affecting both the grinding and polishing processes during optical fabrication. It then relates them to the critical resulting properties of the optic (surface quality, surface figure, surface roughness, and material removal rate). The second part of the book covers a number of related topics including: developed forensic tools used to increase yield of optics with respect to surface quality (scratch/dig) and fracture loss; novel characterization and fabrication techniques used to understand/quantify the fundamental phenomena described in the first part of the book; novel and recent optical fabrication processes and their connection with the fundamental interactions; and finally, special techniques utilized to fabricate optics with high damage resistance. Focuses on the fundamentals of grinding and polishing, from a materials science viewpoint, by studying the chemical and mechanical interactions/phenomena over many scale lengths between the workpiece, slurry, and lap Explains how these phenomena affect the major characteristics of the optic workpiece—namely surface figure, surface quality, surface roughness, and material removal rate Describes methods to improve the major characteristics of the workpiece as well as improve process yield, such as through fractography and scratch forensics Covers novel characterization and fabrication techniques used to understand and quantify the fundamental phenomena of various aspects of the workpiece or fabrication process Details novel and recent optical fabrication processes and their connection with the fundamental interactions Materials Science and Technology of Optical Fabrication is an excellent guidebook for process engineers, fabrication engineers, manufacturing engineers, optical scientists, and opticians in the optical fabrication industry. It will also be helpful for students studying material science and applied optics/photonics.
