Inventory control is a set of policies and operating procedures that are defined to maximize a company's use of inventory, so that it generates the maximum profit from the least amount of inventory investment without compromising customer satisfaction levels. With the help of inventory control one can maximize the availability of goods to the customers "On Time In Full". It requires coordination between purchases, manufactures and distribution team to meet the marketing needs. The main purpose of this study is to establish replenishment models and develop optimal replenishment policies for items having characteristic deterioration taking account of time value of money and optimal solutions with backlogging which shows that the total variable cost is convex.

This book is necessary for research scholars in the field of inventory management. It is about understanding business realities and making decisions for management. In this book, I describe neatly about fundamantal of inventory. In chapter-2, a review of a model, “The Inventory Model for Deteriorating items with Triangular type Demand Rate" has been presented. The model is to investigate the inventory system for perishable items with price dependent demand pattern where Weibull deterioration rate is considered. The Economic Order Quantity is determined for maximizing the profit per unit time. In chapter-3, we have discussed, "Modeling for Inventory with Exponential Declining Demand, variable Deterioration, Linear Holding Cost and Inflation without Shortages".

Optimal control theory has been used in the solution of an enormous variety of problems in physics, engineering, economic and biology. Many of the problem of design in airframe, shipbuilding, electronic, and other engineering fields are in essence, problems of control. The most widely studied type of problem in the mathematical theory of control is the "time optimal" control problem. The aim of control in this problem is to transform any initial state of a dynamic system into a desired stationary state in minimal time.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Economic Policy, grade: 1,3, University of Frankfurt (Main) (Faculty of Economics and Business Administration), course: Chair of Corporate Finance, language: English, abstract: Due to the importance of inventories and the fact that asymmetric information models are extensively discussed in literature, this thesis exclusively focuses on inventory control models and provides a survey of theory and empirical results on the role of inventory in the price formation process. Because most of the relevant literature is based on the U.S. exchange market, this thesis is mainly confined on inventory control of specialists on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and of dealers on the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASDAQ). To understand the costs of holding inventory, Section 2 introduced three important drivers of inventory: capital constraints, liquidity and volatility. Section 3 summarises the effect of market maker inventory and its costs on liquidity and how this affects the bid-ask spread. In Section 4, the impact of inventory on asset prices, especially of inventory levels, is discussed in more detail. Section 5 briefly turns to changes in market structure and how they affect the role of traditional market makers and their inventories. Section 6 finally concludes.

This book is a work for a PhD Mathematics, from Mathematics Department, Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, Nigeria. It deals with the optimal control of a one-machine multiple-product manufacturing system with setup changes, operating in a continuous time dynamic environment. The system is deterministic. When production is switched from one product to the other, a known constant setup time and a setup cost are incurred. Each product has specified constant processing time and constant demand rate, as well as an infinite supply of raw material. The problem was formulated as a feedback control problem. The optimal solution provides the optimal production rate and setup switching epochs as a function of the state of the system (backlog and inventory levels). For the steady state, the optimal cyclic schedule was determined. To solve the transient case, the system’s state space was partitioned into [n(n-1)/2], where n is the number of products, mutually exclusive regions such that with each region, the optimal control policy was determined analytically. From the result of analysis, a number of useful recommendations were made. The book is relevant in manufacturing Industries

Milton Friedman Price Theory

Economics is sometimes divided into two parts: positive economics and normative economics. The former deals with how the economic problem is solved, while the latter deals with how the economic problem should be solved. The effects of price or rent control on the distribution of income are problems of positive economics. The desirability of these effects on income distribution is a problem of normative economics. Within economics, the major division is between monetary theory and price theory. Monetary theory deals with the level of prices in general, with cyclical and other fluctuations in total output, total employment, and the like. Price theory deals with the allocation of resources among different uses, the price of one item relative to another. Prices do three kinds of things. They transmit information, they provide an incentive to users of resources to be guided by this information, and they provide an incentive to owners of resources to follow this information. Milton Friedman's classic book provides the theoretical underpinning for and understanding of prices. Economics is not concerned solely with economic problems. It is a social science, and is therefore concerned primarily with those economic problems whose solutions involve the cooperation and interaction of different individuals. It is concerned with problems involving a single individual only insofar as the individual's behavior has implications for or effects upon other individuals. "Price Theory&...

The structure of approximate solutions of autonomous discrete-time optimal control problems and individual turnpike results for optimal control problems without convexity (concavity) assumptions are examined in this book. In particular, the book focuses on the properties of approximate solutions which are independent of the length of the interval, for all sufficiently large intervals; these results apply to the so-called turnpike property of the optimal control problems. By encompassing the so-called turnpike property the approximate solutions of the problems are determined primarily by the objective function and are fundamentally independent of the choice of interval and endpoint conditions, except in regions close to the endpoints. This book also explores the turnpike phenomenon for two large classes of autonomous optimal control problems. It is illustrated that the turnpike phenomenon is stable for an optimal control problem if the corresponding infinite horizon optimal control problem possesses an asymptotic turnpike property. If an optimal control problem belonging to the first class possesses the turnpike property, then the turnpike is a singleton (unit set). The stability of the turnpike property under small perturbations of an objective function and of a constraint map is established. For the second class of problems where the turnpike phenomenon is not necessarily a singleton the stability of the turnpike property under small perturbations of an objective function is...

Optimal control theory is a versatile mathematical discipline with applications in many fields. It has gained interest over the last decades mainly because increasing computational power allowed to tackle large and complex real life problems numerically. For offering reliable results, a thorough theoretical analysis of solution algorithms, their convergence properties, and approximation quality is inevitable. We follow this need and investigate linear quadratic optimal control problems with elliptic partial differential equations. The discretization with hp-finite elements is embedded in both Newton-type and interior point methods. Different efficient strategies are presented and accompanied by new results on regularity, approximation, and convergence theory.

Different factors related to the product, the market situation, the economic environment and the price control policies are taken into account, using hedonic regressions. Strong differences between the ex-factory prices in the different countries are found. This is mainly due to market failures. In response to these failures all selected countries developed price containment policies. The study analyzes the effects of different price control policies by measuring prices and policies over time.

In economics and business administration, graduate students should readily be able to read it, and the mathematical level can be suitable for advanced undergraduates in mathem- ics and science. The prerequisites for reading the book are only a calculus course and a course in elementary probability. Over the years many organizations have lost a lot of resources and even made huge losses as a result of inventory shrinkage. They have tried to solve this by implementing security measures to safe guard their inventory mainly in warehouses and especially cargo in transit. Security measures have been put in place to avoid theft by external outsiders commonly known as theft and high way robbers who invade cargo while it is been transported. However these measures have proved not adequate enough due to the new challenges posed by pilferage and weak inventory security control procures and records. This book attempts to solve this problems by proposing a model that can be used to effectively control loss of cargo either internally, externally or as caused by weak inventory security procedures. The model can be used by both private as well as public sector industry players who are directly or indirectly involved in inventory management. Fundamentally, organizations at both ends of the financial spectrum can equally employ the model to effectively reduce loss of cargo. Small and medium micro enterprises (SME'S) in Kenya as well as in any other developing country in the world can benefit.

Formation Control of Multi-Agent Systems: A Graph Rigidity Approach Marcio de Queiroz, Louisiana State University, USA Xiaoyu Cai, FARO Technologies, USA Matthew Feemster, U.S. Naval Academy, USA A comprehensive guide to formation control of multi-agent systems using rigid graph theory This book is the first to provide a comprehensive and unified treatment of the subject of graph rigidity-based formation control of multi-agent systems. Such systems are relevant to a variety of emerging engineering applications, including unmanned robotic vehicles and mobile sensor networks. Graph theory, and rigid graphs in particular, provides a natural tool for describing the multi-agent formation shape as well as the inter-agent sensing, communication, and control topology. Beginning with an introduction to rigid graph theory, the contents of the book are organized by the agent dynamic model (single integrator, double integrator, and mechanical dynamics) and by the type of formation problem (formation acquisition, formation manoeuvring, and target interception). The book presents the material in ascending level of difficulty and in a self-contained manner; thus, facilitating reader understanding. Key features: Uses the concept of graph rigidity as the basis for describing the multi-agent formation geometry and solving formation control problems. Considers different agent models and formation control problems. Control designs throughout the book progressively build upon each other. Provides a primer on rigid graph theory. Combines theory, computer simulations, and experimental results. Formation Control of Multi-Agent Systems: A Graph Rigidity Approach is targeted at researchers and graduate students in the areas of control systems and robotics. Prerequisite knowledge includes linear algebra, matrix theory, control systems, and nonlinear systems.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2009 in the subject Psychology - Work, Business, Organisational and Economic Psychology, grade: B + (62), London Metropolitan University, course: BSc Psychology, language: English, abstract: Flow is a state of optimal engagement in, and intrinsic enjoyment, of an activity. This study investigated the role of employment position and the prevalence of flow in work. In agreement with Self-Determination Theory (Ryan & Deci, 2000) and McClelland's (1958) Theory of Needs it was hypothesised that managers will be more likely to experience flow in work. The relationship between employment position and job change history also was investigated. In agreement with Herzberg's (1966) Motivator-Hygiene theory it was hypothesised that managers will show less job changes in their career. In context with the poised hypothesis the differences in motivational traits between managers and subordinates were also explored. A sample of 36 UK Nationals consisting of 20 mangers and 16 subordinates completed the Work Questionnaire (FWQ) and the Work Preference Inventory (WPI). The analysis was based on two samples. The Chinese sample encompassed 4 managers and 50 subordinates. The results supported the first hypothesis suggesting that flow theory may be relevant to understanding high performance in organisations. There was no support for the hypothesis that there was an association between employment position and job change history. This is the second hypothesis...

Abstract from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, , language: English, abstract: From the popular series "Numb3rs" you may know the term "Game Theory", but do you actually know what this is and how it works? During a six-week session of microeconomics, several basic principles are introduced and applied in the business context. Game Theory deals with the optimal behavior of rational decision makers in a simplified surrounding. This text deals with the optimal behavior during a second price action and within oligopolistic competition. The basic ideas like the prisoner's dilemma are explained and underlined with real examples to simplify and illustrate the dry mathematics behind it. After reading this text, you will be able to solve certain problems in a simplified surrounding by your own and will perceive the world at least a little bit more rational.

2011 Reprint of 1962 edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. Price Theory comprises the full text of Friedman's legendary course on price theory taught at the University of Chicago. Friedman was originally a Keynesian supporter of the New Deal and advocate of government intervention in the economy. However, his 1950s reinterpretation of the Keynesian consumption function challenged the basic Keynesian model. At the University of Chicago, Friedman became the main advocate for opposing Keynesianism. During the 1960s he promoted an alternative macroeconomic policy known as "monetarism". He theorized there existed a "natural rate of unemployment" and he argued the central government could not micromanage the economy because people would realize what the government was doing and change their behavior to neutralize such policies. Price Theory is the transcript of Friedman's legendary course on price theory taught at the University of Chicago.

Inventory means the raw materials, work in process goods and completely finished goods that are considered to be the portion of a business’s assets that are ready or will be ready for sale. The classic inventory problem involves determining how much of a resources to acquire, either by purchasing or producing it, and whether or when to acquire it to minimize the sum of costs that increase with the size of inventory and those that decrease with increase in inventory. In this book we present some inventory model with deterioration and other effects. The governing differential equations have been solved by Newton-Raphson method. The content of this book is applicable to defence, industries and the researchers, working in the field of inventory.

A comprehensive look at state-of-the-art ADP theory and real-world applications This book fills a gap in the literature by providing a theoretical framework for integrating techniques from adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) and modern nonlinear control to address data-driven optimal control design challenges arising from both parametric and dynamic uncertainties. Traditional model-based approaches leave much to be desired when addressing the challenges posed by the ever-increasing complexity of real-world engineering systems. An alternative which has received much interest in recent years are biologically-inspired approaches, primarily RADP. Despite their growing popularity worldwide, until now books on ADP have focused nearly exclusively on analysis and design, with scant consideration given to how it can be applied to address robustness issues, a new challenge arising from dynamic uncertainties encountered in common engineering problems. Robust Adaptive Dynamic Programming zeros in on the practical concerns of engineers. The authors develop RADP theory from linear systems to partially-linear, large-scale, and completely nonlinear systems. They provide in-depth coverage of state-of-the-art applications in power systems, supplemented with numerous real-world examples implemented in MATLAB. They also explore fascinating reverse engineering topics, such how ADP theory can be applied to the study of the human brain and cognition. In addition, the book: Covers the latest developments in RADP theory and applications for solving a range of systems’ complexity problems Explores multiple real-world implementations in power systems with illustrative examples backed up by reusable MATLAB code and Simulink block sets Provides an overview of nonlinear control, machine learning, and dynamic control Features discussions of novel applications for RADP theory, including an entire chapter on how it can be used as a computational mechanism of human movement control Robust Adaptive Dynamic Programming is both a valuable working resource and an intriguing exploration of contemporary ADP theory and applications for practicing engineers and advanced students in systems theory, control engineering, computer science, and applied mathematics.

True Digital Control: Statistical Modelling and Non–Minimal State Space Designdevelops a true digital control design philosophy that encompasses data–based model identification, through to control algorithm design, robustness evaluation and implementation. With a heritage from both classical and modern control system synthesis, this book is supported by detailed practical examples based on the authors’ research into environmental, mechatronic and robotic systems. Treatment of both statistical modelling and control design under one cover is unusual and highlights the important connections between these disciplines. Starting from the ubiquitous proportional–integral controller, and with essential concepts such as pole assignment introduced using straightforward algebra and block diagrams, this book addresses the needs of those students, researchers and engineers, who would like to advance their knowledge of control theory and practice into the state space domain; and academics who are interested to learn more about non–minimal state variable feedback control systems. Such non–minimal state feedback is utilised as a unifying framework for generalised digital control system design. This approach provides a gentle learning curve, from which potentially difficult topics, such as optimal, stochastic and multivariable control, can be introduced and assimilated in an interesting and straightforward manner. Key features: Covers both system identification and control system design in a unified manner Includes practical design case studies and simulation examples Considers recent research into time–variable and state–dependent parameter modelling and control, essential elements of adaptive and nonlinear control system design, and the delta–operator (the discrete–time equivalent of the differential operator) systems Accompanied by a website hosting MATLAB examples True Digital Control: Statistical Modelling and Non–Minimal State Space Design is a comprehensive and practical guide for students and professionals who wish to further their knowledge in the areas of modern control and system identification.

According to the economic theory of the firm, businesses strive to determine the single price that maximizes profits. In fact, many firms can extract more revenue and increase profits with pricing strategies that are far more innovative than the single-price strategy. However, in the world of pricing, there is no Òone size fits allÓ strategy. Some pricing strategies are better suited to some situations than others. Sam's Club, owned by Walmart Stores, Inc., for example, charge a membership fee for the right to purchase the store's inventory whereas Walmart Supercenters do not. If Suddenlink Communications bundles Internet, cable, and phone service to increase profits, why does it also sell the same items separately? Is it true that passengers seated next to each other on the same flight might pay dramatically different fares? Inside you'll learn how various pricing strategies, including price discrimination, two-part tariffs, bundling, peak-load pricing, and dynamic pricing need specific and necessary ingredients in order to succeed. The authors show you how to use microeconomic theory to determine which pricing strategies will succeed, and under what conditions.

The theory of capital structure is one of the most exciting and complex topics in corporate finance. After many years of debate it is still extremely difficult to provide a conclusive answer to the question which capital structure maximises the value of a company and what factors determine the optimal mix of debt and equity capital. This book provides a comprehensive introduction to capital structure theory and investigates its practical relevance in the German market. The main objectives are to explore the link between capital structure theory and corporate practice and to test determinants of capital structure choice empirically. The book has been written for students, researchers, and academics, but also for practitioners seeking empirical evidence of capital structure theory and an empirical model that can be used to estimate the optimal level of debt for an individual company in relation to an existing industry optimum.
