We explore various optimization problems which appear in computer vision and image processing. By exploiting the geometric structure of the underlying search spaces, we develop more efficient and robust ways to find optimal solutions. We present the Nelder-Mead algorithms on Lie groups and describe its application to medical image registration. A widely used approach to image registration involves finding the transformation that maximizes the mutual information between two images, with the transformation restricted to be either rigid-body (i.e., belonging to SE(3)) or volume-preserving (i.e., belonging to SL(3)). We present coordinate-invariant, geometric versions of the Nelder-Mead optimization algorithm on the transformation groups SL(3), SE(3), and its various subgroups, that are applicable to a wide class of image registration problems. Because the algorithms respect the geometric structure of the underlying transformation groups, they are numerically more stable, and exhibit better convergence properties than existing local coordinate-based algorithms. Experimental results demonstrate the improved convergence properties of our geometrics algorithm.

This volume is intended for readers who, whether they be mathematicians, workers in other fields or students, are familiar with the basic approaches and methods of mathematical optimization. The subject matter is concerned with optimization problems in which some or all of the individual data involved depend on one parameter. Such problems are called one-parametric optimization problems. Solution algorithms for such problems are of interest for several reasons. We consider here mainly applications of solution algorithms for one-parametric optimization problems in the following fields: (i) globally convergent algorithms for nonlinear, in particular non-convex, optimization problems, (ii) global optimization, (iii) multi-objective optimization. The main tool for a solution algorithm for a one-parametric optimization problem will be the so-called pathfollowing methods (also called continuation or homotopy methods) (cf. Chapters 3 and 4). Classical methods in the set of stationary points will be extended to the set of all generalized critical points. This could be helpful since the path of stationary points stops in this set, but there is a continuation in the broader set of generalized critical points. However, it will be shown that pathfollowing methods only are not successful in every case. This is the reason why we propose to jump from one connected component in the set of local minimizers and generalized critical points, respectively, to another one (Chapter 5).

So, a hybrid algorithm that combines both of the trust region algorithm (numerical optimization technique) and particle swarm optimization (swarm intelligence method) to solve multiobjective optimization problems is presented. In addition, the new algorithm implemented to solve multiobjective engineering component design problems and the environmental economic dispatch problem to demonstrate the superiority of our approach and confirms its potential to solve engineering applications.

Nowadays, meta-heuristic optimization algorithms have been extensively applied to a variety of Machine Learning (ML). The majority of them imitate the behavior of natural phenomena to find the best solution. The algorithms find promising regions in an affordable time because of exploration and exploitation ability. Therefore, searching for a new meta-heuristic algorithm is an open problem. In this study, an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) scheme combined with Newton’s laws of motion, the centripetal accelerated particle swarm optimization (CAPSO), is introduced. CAPSO accelerates the learning and convergence of ML problems. In addition, the binary mode of the proposed algorithm, binary centripetal accelerated particle swarm optimization (BCAPSO), is introduced for binary search spaces.

With respect to the importance of multi-objective optimization in the context of the today's information processing and analysis, as well as the limitation of current approaches to treat large and complex tasks in practical time and little adjustment costs, this work proposes a novel optimization concept, based on data domain transformations and subsequent cluster analyses to solve multi-objective optimization problems. The approach abstracts the transposition of large, high-dimensional and diverse data models to low-dimensional uniform equivalents within an independent framework, which is optimized regarding data similarity conservation, i.e. the semantic relations of the data items to each other are preserved, and low runtime complexity, i.e. linearly increasing model sizes also cause only linearly growing run­times in spite of the consideration of all data relations. The cluster analysis step is represented by an enhanced version of the k-Means algorithm, which is designed to group large numbers of data items to large numbers of clusters with also linear time complexity. This book has dealt with the generation of exact analytic bound state solution of the Schrodinger equation, taking as 'seed' an already analytically solved quantum system. The method rests on a coordinate transformation followed by a functional transformation. The former is the basic transformation and has been used in earlier treatment mapping one system into another. Earlier studies of mapping by various hors dealt with a 1-dimensional system and completely sidetracked the important question of the dimensionality of the space of the transformed system. Ealier studies on similar lines were fraught with an inaccurate specification of the angular momentum quantum number 'L' or beset with an element of ad-hocness. Within the context of the coordinate transformation and power-law potential we have studied the dimensionality aspect of the transformed quantum system and found that except when the A-system is taken in 2-dimensional space, there is always a change in the dimensionality of the B-system. The difficulty arising due to dimensional mismatch can be overcome by performing an Extenden transformation instead of the simple coordinate transformation on the original exactly solvable

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Biology - Micro- and Molecular Biology, grade: A pass, , course: Molecular Biotechnology, language: English, abstract: Traditional rice varieties consists of many important traits such as medicinal and nutritional value, drought and pest resistance. Efficient tissue culture and transformation techniques are important in uncovering such genes from traditional rice varieties. Aim of this study was to optimize an efficient protocol of callus induction and transformation of Sri Lankan traditional rice varieties. Dahanala, Kaluheenaty, Kalubalawee, madael, Kahatawalu, Kaharamana, Gonabaru, Alwee, Wannidahanala, Kottiyaran, BG380 and H4 were selected for the study. Twelve different concentration combinations of 2, 4-D and kinetin were used to determine the effect of hormone concentrations on callus induction. Calli were transformed using Agrobacterium mediated transformation. For calli transformation Agrobacterium tumefaciens GV3101 containing pBI121 vector was used. Transformed callus were detected using GUS analysis. Efficiency of transient transformation was calculated for each variety. There was a significant difference of 12 treatments of callus induction of tested varieties except Gonabaru. Kaluheenaty, Madael, Gonabaru, Kottiyaran and H4 have shown the best callus induction for the same hormone concentration combination of 2.5mg/L 2,4-D and 0.5 mg/L kinetin.
