Groundwater sampling was carried out by grab sampling method in 36 sampling locations comprised of 34 hand pumps and two dug wells. Groundwater samples for manganese were preserved by adding conc. Groundwater manganese concentrations were estimated by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy. Groundwater iron concentration from the study area during winter 2012 was in the range of 0.0015-1.85 mg/L (SD±0.36). Groundwater manganese concentration in seven water samples were above the permissible desirable limit of Indian Standards for drinking water (IS 10500:2012, desirable limit for Mn, 0.3 mg/L max.). This elevated concentration of manganese in groundwater from the study area can be attributed to weathering of mineral bearing rocks, mining activities and also to some extent to anthropogenic activities. Spatial distribution of manganese was observed in the study area. Further, shallow, deep and very deep well water had variable manganese concentration. Upper earth surface had lower manganese concentration, however present, can be attributed to anthropogenic activities whereas deeper earth surface had higher manganese concentration that can be assigned to geogenic origin.

For the study of impact of artificial recharge of roof top rainwater on the quantity and quality of groundwater, the geomatic approach was employed for identifying sites for construction of roof top rainwater harvesting structures by preparing various spatial maps. Monitoring and assessment of groundwater levels was carried out in the study area. Normal annual rainfall in the campus of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad is 821mm with unutilized non-committed surplus monsoon runoff. Artificial recharge of ground water through rooftop rainwater harvesting was done by constructing three recharge structures each with a capacity of 1,00,000 litres. A total rainfall of 658.1 mm has been found to be recorded and a total quantity of 23, 96,160 liters of groundwater has been found to be recharged during the four months period in the campus.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimates that the global mean surface temperature has increased 0.6 ± 0.2 oC since 1861, and predicts an increase of 2 to 4 oC over the next 100 years. Temperature increases also affect the hydrologic cycle by directly increasing evaporation of available surface water and vegetation transpiration. Consequently, these changes can influence precipitation amounts, timings and intensity rates, and indirectly impact the flux and storage of water in surface and subsurface reservoirs (i.e., lakes, soil moisture, groundwater). In addition, there may be other associated impacts, such as sea water intrusion, water quality deterioration, potable water shortage, etc. While climate change affects surface water resources directly through changes in the major long-term climate variables such as air temperature, precipitation, and evapotranspiration, the relationship between the changing climate variables and groundwater is more complicated and poorly understood. The greater variability in rainfall could mean more frequent and prolonged periods of high or low groundwater levels, and saline intrusion in coastal aquifers due to sea level rise and resource reduction. Surface water and groundwater interaction is an intrinsic component of the hydrologic budget on the watershed. Hydrologic modeling tools must account for this interaction to provide reliable predictions.In this study, for the simulation of the groundwater system, a steady and transient state groundwater model has been developed using the Visual MODFLOW program for a study area of Aa river, which is located on the eastern part of the Nete area, NE of Antwerp, Belgium. ArcView GIS was used for the estimation of the spatially distributed recharge, landuse and soil characteristics of the study area. This combined approach proves an effective tool in characterizing the groundwater-surface water system. This paper describes an analysis of sources of water to a pumping well in a shallow aquifer that discharges to a river.It is evident from the present model study that the groundwater is in direct contact with the river and river gets flow from aquifer throughout the study period. Furthermore, the results of the model are used to analyze the relationship between the groundwater and surface water with spatial extent of perturbations imposed on the entire flow system.

The present study was carried out for pharmacological and chemical investigations on various crude extracts of Grewia paniculata bark and leaf. The phytochemical screening of all the extracts demonstrated the presence of carbohydrates, tannins, flavonoids, saponins, proteins, steroids and alkaloids. The analgesic activity was performed by acetic acid-induced writhing method, hot plate and tail immersion method in mice. The CNS depressant activity was evaluated by using hole cross, open field and thiopental induced sleeping time tests.The antidiarrhoeal activity was observed by castor oil induced diarrhoeal method. In brine shrimp lethality bioassay the extract exhibited moderate cytotoxic activity. In disc diffusion method the extracts displayed moderate activity against tested bacteria. These preliminary screening justify the traditional use of this medicinal plant.

High population growth and increased exploitation of groundwater resources causes the degradation of groundwater quality. In today's world GIS has a wide applications in all fields of study. In this study GIS has been applied to evaluate the groundwater quality in the Peshawar district of Pakistan. The study is divided into two parts. In the first part 105 samples were collected in the field and were analyzed in laboratory for different important parameters such as pH, Ec, TDS, Alkalinity (HCO3), total hardness, Ca hardness, Mg hardness, NO3 (Nitrate) concentration, Cl-1 concentration and turbidity . These parameters were spatially modeled and analyzed using Spatial statistical techniques. In the second part a GIS based DRASTIC model was applied to assess the Groundwater vulnerable zones to pollution using six input parameters to the model such as depth to groundwater, net recharge, aquifer media, soil media, topography and hydraulic conductivity. After modeling the area was divided to low, medium and high vulnerable zones.

Wastes, which are described here as materials that result from an activity or process but have no immediate economic value or demand and must be discarded, have been managed in a way that contaminates water and the environment. In most areas and cities, wastes are generated daily and most of the wastes are discarded in improperly situated dumping sites that are not engineered. During the peak of the rainy season, dump sites are covered by flood water and this contributes to the formation of leachate (water that has percolated through waste and contains various ions in solution). It is this contaminated liquid (leachate) that forms a "plume" that moves outwards and downwards into the surrounding and underlying aquifers. Geoelectrical method has been found very suitable for this kind of environmental study. This is due to the fact that generally, ionic concentration of leachate is much higher than that of groundwater and so when the leachate enters the aquifer, it results in a large contrast in electrical properties and the method will identify these zones as an anomaly which enables the leachate plume to be detected.

For the study of impact of artificial recharge of roof top rainwater on the quantity and quality of groundwater, the geomatic approach was employed for identifying sites for construction of roof top rainwater harvesting structures by preparing various spatial maps. Monitoring and assessment of groundwater levels was carried out in the study area. Normal annual rainfall in the campus of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad is 821mm with unutilized non-committed surplus monsoon runoff. Artificial recharge of ground water through rooftop rainwater harvesting was done by constructing three recharge structures each with a capacity of 1,00,000 litres. A total rainfall of 658.1 mm has been found to be recorded and a total quantity of 23, 96,160 liters of groundwater has been found to be recharged during the four months period in the campus.

An implementation of information systems by service providers is a complex task, the complexity of which is increased with integration in teleradiology networks. The relevant influence factors of the digitization of the radiology on patients, processes and economics were examined by theoretical analysis observations and the results were integrated into the implementation method. The developed method for the implementation of information systems in complex overall systems is arranged in a holistic and patient-oriented manner. Information containers form the core of the implementation method. Within the modular information containers all information relating to one process is set in relationship with each other in a matrix on several levels. From the information containers the individual projects are generated. The implementation method is an instrument of the strategic management, since the technical conception and conversion of information systems require a previous adjustment of structures and processes.

The combination of an optical access network and the radio propagation of high data-rate signals provides a solution to meet these demands. Such structures are also known as Radio Over Fibre systems. They implement the optical Millimetre Wave generation in a central station and the transmission of radio waves via a remote antenna unit to the radio cell. The expected data rate is very high, due to the fact that both the optical and the radio-link provide a large transmission bandwidth. This dissertation concerns the investigation of a new and simple method for the flexible generation of Millimetre Waves for application in Radio Over Fibre systems. The method is based on the heterodyne detection of two optical waves in a photo detector. By externally amplitude modulating the optical wave, different sidebands are generated. Two of these sidebands are selected and amplified by the non-linear effect of stimulated Brillouin scattering. As a gain medium, a standard single mode fibre is used.
