The result of the profitability analysis shows the financial performance of the cooperative is improving. The study also employed Heckman two stages model to analyze members decision and intensity/level of participation with their cooperative. The first stage is the likelihood members decision. The second stage is the OLS estimation determinants the sales intensity: p(xi) = 0.112X1 + 0.433X2 + 0.838X3 + 2.423X4 + 2.194X5 + 1.040X6. This in turn empowers cooperative members' to claim their right in return surplus/ dividend in proportion to their participation.

The focus of this work is the design and performance evaluation of Network on Chip (NoC) based multi-core hardware accelerators for computational biology. Sequence analysis and phylogenetic reconstruction are the two problems in this domain which have been addressed here. An effective approach to speed up such operations is to integrate a very high number of processing elements in a single chip so that the massive scales of fine-grain parallelism inherent in this application can be exploited efficiently. Network-on-Chip (NoC) is a very efficient method to achieve such large scale integration. Specifically, we (i) propose optimized NoC architectures for different sequence alignment algorithms that were originally designed for distributed memory parallel computers, (ii) a custom NoC architecture for solving the breakpoint phylogeny problem (iii) provide a thorough comparative evaluation of their respective performance and energy dissipation.

However, analytical methods have a relatively high accuracy in the performance measures and in efficiency, so results can often be computed significantly faster. This thesis focuses on basic queueing theory. To represent complex IT systems Queueing Network models have been extensively applied. Possibilities and limitations of mapping basic queueing formulas on Queueing Network models are presented by using theoretical knowledge and practical comparison of a self-developed analysis tool with a simulation tool. Deviations in performance measures and savings on computational costs of the analytical solver are shown and by this the usefulness of analytical procedures will be underlined exemplarily.

A typical problem that arises when deploying intrusion detection sensors is their affinities of producing high rate of false alerts. Thus, it needs huge analysis efforts and time consuming odd jobs at higher levels. In this study, we have investigated an approach to anomaly intrusion detection based on causal knowledge reasoning. The approach is anomaly-based and utilizes causal knowledge inference based fuzzy cognitive maps (FCM) and self organizing maps (SOM). A set of parallel neural network classifiers (SOM) are used to do an initial recognition of the network traffic flow to detect abnormal behaviors. The FCM is incorporated to eliminate ambiguities of odd neurons and making final decisions. Based on the domain knowledge of network data the SOM/FCM combination presents quantitative and qualitative matching correspondences which in turn reduce the number of suspicious neurons i.e. reduce the number of false alerts. This method works as a unique fuzzy clustering approach and we have demonstrated its performance using DARPA 1999 network traffic data set. The method has also the flexibility of features selection for further exploration.

The detection capability of the system has been tested with huge and small amount of data. It is seen from the performance analysis that the system performs well when trained with small amount of data. An overall detection rate of 98% has been achieved for both known and unknown attacks. Moreover, the system can detect 100% normal user.

The study also develops a dimension of networks, network diversity, and its contribution to NPD performance. In ex­ploring how NPD performance is affected by information available between firms with formal cooperation agreements, it suggests that two aspects of the formal external information network, variety and control, have an impact on a firms NPD performance. Network theory is used to understand information variety and control during NPD. Analyzing a firms egocentric network of formal relationships provides insight about information availability. Egocentric network diversity serves as a proxy for variety of information and egocentric structural holes (connectedness) provide an understanding of information control. The study shows that each of these factors has a differing relationship with three dimensions of NPD performance: innovative­ness, speed, and market performance.

In the era of Exascale computing, the interconnection network is a key component in the High-Performance Computing (HPC) Systems which are expected to interconnect million of processing nodes by the year 2018. It is a prominent challenge for current network technologies such as InfiniBand to achieve high network performance in order not to be the bottleneck of HPC systems. In that sense, Congestion menaces the network performance and, consequently, the overall HPC system operation. This book covers important gaps in congestion management for HPC interconnection networks using distributed routing. It analyzes the drawbacks of proposed solutions, where none of the existing techniques for this type of networks achieves a complete efficiency and scalability. This book describes an approach to construct a decision support system from results of a non-point source (NPS) pollution model using high performance computing, and by distributing work load between client and server. A review of NPS models and a survey of techniques used for constructing decision-support software systems are given. The NPS model selected for this investigation was the Guelph model for evaluating effects of Agricultural Management systems on Erosion and Sedimentation (GAMES). The graphical probability model consists of a network of nodes that represent individual parameters, or variables for fields, in a watershed. Directed links indicate relationships between variables. The complete graph thus has directed links that follow the drainage network of the watershed. The relationships, or links, between the nodes are quantified by way of data derived by Monte Carlo simulation of the GAMES model and by deterministic functions as specified in GAMES. Probability models were developed for two Southern Ontario watersheds, and the Guelph cluster of Shared Hierarchical Academic Computing Network (SHARCNET) was used as a high performance computing environment.

Security and privacy have gained more and more attention with the rapid growth and public acceptance of the Internet as a means of communication and information dissemination. Security and privacy of a computing or network system may be compromised by a variety of well-crafted attacks. In this monograph, we address issues related to security and privacy in computer network systems. Specifically, we model and analyze a special group of network attacks, known as traffic analysis attacks, and develop and evaluate their countermeasures. Traffic analysis attacks aim to derive critical information by analyzing traffic over a network. From our research, it is obvious that traffic analysis attacks present a serious challenge to the design of a secured computer network system. It is the objective of this study to develop robust but cost-effective solutions to counter link-load analysis attacks and flow-connectivity analysis attacks. The performance of three directory-based cache- coherence protocols; strict request-response, intervention forwarding and reply forwarding are evaluated via simulation on the SOME-Bus, which is a fiber-optic interconnection network supporting DSM. The simulated system contains 64 nodes, each of which has a processor, cache controller, directory controller and output channel. Simulations have been conducted for each protocol to measure average processor utilization and average network latency for varying values of DSM parameters such as the ratio of the mean channel service time to mean thread run time (T/R), probability of a cache block being in modified state {P(M)}, the fraction of write misses {P(W)} and under different traffic patterns. The results reveal that the performance of all protocols decreases under all traffic patterns as P(W),P(M) or T/R increases. The effect of P(W) on the performance of the protocols reduces as P(M) increases. Reply forwarding performs the best for high P(M) values, intervention forwarding yields the best performance for low P(M) and high P(W) values and strict request-response is the best protocol under hot-region (HR) traffic.

The Norwegian Railway Administration (JBV) uses a measuring car to measure track performance. From a safety point of view, special attention needs to be paid to spots on the line where failure propagation is out of control, and critical failures could develop in between measurements typically carried out twice a year. A challenge in the modelling is that we are dealing with so-called line objects, where there are an almost infinite number of places a failure can occur. This is complicated by the fact that the measuring car reports the position of failures with some uncertainty, making it difficult to compare results across different measurements series. This report presents the result of an analysis of propagation of spot failures on track geometry. The analysis is based on ten inspections performed on the railway line between Eidsvoll and Hamar in the period 2006 to 2012. The data for the analysis is obtained from JBV's databases. Follow up of track performance is regulated by laws and regulations. JBV usesmaintenance and renewal to improve track performance. To analyse deterioration of the track performance it is applied statistical methods.

The main difference is requirement of expert knowledge from neural network area, which makes it a research tool.
