The escalating complexity of System-on-Chips (SoCs) has resulted bottleneck network communications within the chips thus diminishing its performance. Networks-on-Chip (NoC) was proposed as a paradigm to solve these complications in network communications. As for NoC, the issue arises in designing the topological structure of the on-chip network which fulfilled the application requirements. Therefore, Network Partitioning technique is proposed to obtain the optimal design of networks based on its performance. The performance of NoC is measured through several metrics namely average queue size, waiting time and packet loss. To validate the efficiency, this technique is applied in a case study of MPEG-4 video application. It is expected that the proposed technique is an optimistic way in enhancing the performance of NoC compared to other well known techniques.

An existing application, a video pixel processor for high-end television sets, is used as a case study. Furthermore, the influence of a recently developed communication infrastructure, Network-on-Chip (NoC), on power dissipation is analyzed. An extensive power analysis is performed on the Network Interface (NI), a key part of the NoC. The results have been applied to the recent design of a NoC-based video pixel processor and an alternative implementation is proposed that promises to reduce the power dissipation by about 50%.

In this case, an effective method to prevent the electric power system from instability, frequency collapse and blackout is an under-frequency load shedding scheme. It is applied in order to maintain stability of the system, when the power system generation fails to supply the increase of load. Load shedding is a common technique to maintain the power system stability by curtailment of partial load in some part of the system. However, the load shedding techniques for an islanded distribution network should be treated differently from the transmission power system. A particular approach of under-frequency load shedding scheme is required for an islanded system which is known to be not as strong as the grid.

The current practice used in UC modelling is the binary approach. This modelling results in a high dimension problem. This in turn leads to increased computational effort anddecreased efficiency of the algorithm. A duty cycle based modelling proposed in this thesis results in 80 percent reduction in the problem dimension. The stern uptime and downtime requirements are also included in the modelling. A few mobile agents move in the network and communicate with each node. They collect the network information to build the global information matrix of nodes. The routing algorithm chooses a shortest path of all nodes in all possible routes. Additionally, we compare the performance of power-relation routing protocol DSR (Dynamic Source Routing)in simulation environment. The results show that the survivability of Ad Hoc network has been better because of less energy consumption when usingour improved DSR as compare to standard DSR protocol.

Ad hoc mobile devices heavily depend on the performance of batteries. Optimizing the power consumption is a very crucial issue. To maximize the lifetime of mobile ad hoc network, the power consumption rate of each node must be reduced. In this paper we present a novel energy efficient routing algorithm based on mobile agents to deal with the routing mechanism in the energy-critical environments. Combinatorial problems based on graph partitioning enable us to mathematically represent and model many practical applications. Mission planning and the routing problems occurring in logistics perfectly illustrate two such examples. Capacitors have been used to provide reactive power compensation in distribution systems. They are provided to minimize power losses and to maintain voltage profile within in the acceptable limits. The capacitor placement problem is a well researched topic and has been addressed by many researchers. Most of the approaches have the common defect of being caught to a local solution whereas Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) searches for a global solution using multiple paths. A new approach for finding the optimal size and location of capacitors using PSO is reported in this work. The problem is how to optimally determine the location to install capacitors, the types and sizes of capacitors to be installed and during each load level, the control schemes for each capacitor in the nodes of a general 3-phase radial distribution networks such that a desired objective function is minimized, while the load constraints, network constraints and operational constraints at different load levels are satisfied.

The loop-shaping approach consists of obtaining a specification in relation to the open loop of the control from specifications regarding various closed loop transfers, because it is easier to work on a single transfer (in addition to the open loop) than on a multitude of transfers (various loopings such as set point/error, disturbance/error, disturbance/control, etc.). The simplicity and flexibility of the approach make it very well adapted to the industrial context. This book presents the loop-shaping approach in its entirety, starting with the declension of high-level specifications into a loop-shaping specification. It then shows how it is possible to fully integrate this approach for the calculation of robust and efficient correctors with the help of existing techniques, which have already been industrially tried and tested, such as H-infinity synthesis. The concept of a gap metric (or distance between models) is also presented along with its connection with the prime factors of a set of systems shaping a ball of models, as well as its connections with robust synthesis by loop-shaping, in order to calculate efficient and robust correctors. As H-infinity loop-shaping is often demanding in terms of the order of correctors, the author also looks at loop-shaping synthesis under an ordering constraint. Two further promising lines of research are presented, one using stochastic optimization, and the other non-smooth optimization. Finally, the book introduces the concept of correction with two degrees of freedom via the formalism of prime factorization. Avenues for future work are also opened up by the author as he discusses the main drawbacks to loop-shaping synthesis, and how these issues can be solved using modern optimization techniques in an increasingly competitive industrial context, in accordance with ever more complex sets of functional specifications, associated with increasingly broad conditions of usage. This dissertation addresses the issue of voltage margin improvement by integrating DG unit and, therefore, this dissertation presents the model to enhance the candidate bus voltage of distribution system by optimal integration of DG units. The technical analysis is performed for radial distribution system (RDS).The proposed algorithm evaluates the base condition of loss and bus voltage and then generate populations of solutions at first stage. Optimization of DG unit size and locate the optimal bus can be done with the particle swarm optimization (PSO) method. The proposed paradigm works with the objective that minimize the active power loss under a constraint of voltage limit and DG size limit.Finally, the conclusion is that DG unit can locate optimally with optimized size to the distribution system for the voltage profile improvement of the buses and also the total loss of system is reduced. It is also concluded that the model can be used for any radial distribution systems.
