The original structure, consisting of sub frame and assembled gear, used hard plastic bushings. This setup caused noise inside the passenger cabin, which was not tolerated by customers. In order to obtain a better understanding of the noise's source, an experimental modal analysis of the structure is performed. After draping a point cloud over the structure, the frequency response functions between these points are measured. The complex exponential method, including Prony's method, provides algorithms which are used to extract the structure's modes. Within the frequency range of approx. 50 to 550 Hz seven eigenmodes are extracted. Two of them show strong interaction between sub frame and differential, while the residual modes are dominated by the frame's mode shapes.

Highway bridges in seismic prone areas suffer a serious structural issues when subjected to a severe earthquake, which are the longitudinal hinge displacements. The hinge displacements might put the structure integrity in jeopardy when they exceed certain limits. High hinge displacements can cause fatal effects on the bridge structure including; bearing failure, unseating, and pounding of the adjacent superstructure decks. The aim of this study is to implement a numerical model which characterize the standard properties of a highway bridge and put it under a high intensity seismic excitation to examine its response. Then attempting to enhance the structure response using cable restrainers as means of displacement control. A parametric study is to be performed to investigate the effect of the restrainer material properties (Stiffness and Effective damping) on the efficiency of the cable restrainer in performing its intended purpose. The bridge was modelled and analysed using CSIBridge® finite element package.

By 1960, psychology had come to be dominated by behaviorism and learning theory, which emphasized the observable stimulus and response components of human and animal behavior while ignoring the cognitive processes that mediate the relationship between the stimulus and response. The cognitive phenomena occurring within the "black box" between stimulus and response were of little interest to behaviorists, as their mathematical models worked without them. In 1960, the book "Plans and the Structure of Behavior," authored by George A. Miller, Eugene Galanter, and Karl H. Pribram, was published. In this volume, Miller and his colleagues sought to unify the behaviorists' learning theory with a cognitive model of learned behavior. Whereas the behaviorists suggested that a simple reflex arc underlies the acquisition of the stimulus-response relationship, Miller and his colleagues proposed that "some mediating organization of experience is necessary" somewhere between the stimulus and response, in effect a cognitive process which must include monitoring devices that control the acquisition of the stimulus-response relationship. They named this fundamental unit of behavior the T.O.T.E. for "Test - Operate - Test - Exit".

A feed-through truncated plate model which minimizing the effect of truncated modes on spatial low-frequency dynamics of the system by adding a spatial zero frequency term to the truncated model is provided and numerical software MATLAB is used to compare the feed-through truncated plate model with traditional balanced reduction plate model which is used to decrease the dimensions and orders of the infinite-dimensional and very high-order plate model. Active vibration control strategy is presented for a flexible plate structure with bonded three self-sensing magnetic transducers which guarantee unconditional stability of the closed-loop system similar as collocated control system. Both multi-mode SISO and MIMO control laws based upon positive position feedback is developed for plate structure vibration suppression. The proposed multi-mode PPF controllers can be tuned to a chosen number of modes and increase the damping of the plate structure so as to minimize the chosen number of resonant responses. As in many other applications of computer vision, the general framework for the understanding of oriented features in images can be divided into low- and high-level analysis. In the context of the study of oriented features, low-level analysis includes the detection of oriented features in images; a measure of the local magnitude and orientation of oriented features over the entire region of analysis in the image is called the orientation field. The whole problem resembles the task a human can solve in a cocktail party situation, where using two sensors (ears), the brain can focus on a specific source of interest, suppressing all other sources present (cocktail party problem).For computational and conceptual simplicity this problem is often represented as a linear transformation of the original audio signals. In other words, each component (multivariate signal) of the representation is a linear combination of the original variables (original subcomponents). In signal processing, independent component analysis (ICA) is a computational method for separating a multivariate signal into additive subcomponents by assuming that the subcomponents are non-Gaussian signals and that they are all statistically independent from each other. Such a representation seems to capture the essential structure of the data in many applications.Here we separate audio using different criteria suggested for ICA, being PCA (Principal Component Analysis), Non-gaussianity maximization using kurtosis and neg-entropy methods, frequency domain approach using non-gaussianity maximization and beamforming.

Two tax structures namely pre Value Added Tax (VAT) and post VAT were identified and their impacts evaluated.The empirical analysis was anchored on the endogenous growth theoretical framework which allowed for linking tax structures to growth. Econometric models were then developed to explore the relationship between the identified tax structures and economic growth. The first model present a growth equation with average tax rate variable, while the second model is where the specific tax variables were included alongside variables in the first model. The third, fourth and fifth models were used to test the robustness of the second model. This was accomplished basically by introducing additional variables. Prior to the empirical estimations, the standard tests of unit root and co-integration analysis were conducted to ascertain the appropriate estimation procedure and technique(s) to use. The case of Nyungwe savannas is one of these particularities and until now no explanation has been given to their origin, their structure and dynamics. Using Braun-Blanquet (1932) method, vegetation sampling was done in three sites (Karamba, Nyabitimbo, and Muzimu) harboring five savannas. Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA) with MVSP software was used to identify plant communities.This unprecedented work documented the special floristic diversity of montane savannas of Nyungwe, the structure of their plant communities, their origin, predominant types of diaspores, and the phytogeographical distribution/endemism of afromontane species. This book includes a study of trustworthiness, percentile response time, service availability, and authentication in the networks between users and cloud service providers, and at service stations or sites that may be owned by different service providers. The first part of the book contains an analysis of percentile response time, which is one of the most important SLA (service level agreements) metrics. Effective and accurate numerical solutions for the calculation of the percentile response time in single-class and multi-class queueing networks are obtained. Then, the numerical solution is incorporated in a resource allocation problem. Specifically, the authors present an approach for the resource optimization that minimizes the total cost of computer resources required while preserving a given percentile of the response time. In the second part, the approach is extended to consider trustworthiness, service availability, and the percentile of response time in Web services. These QoS metrics are clearly defined and their quantitative analysis provided. The authors then take into account these QoS metrics in a trust-based resource allocation problem in which a set of cloud computing resources is used by a service provider to host a typical Web services application for single-class customer services and multipleclass customer services respectively. Finally, in the third part of the book a thorough performance evaluation of two notable public key cryptography-based authentication techniques; Public-Key Cross Realm Authentication in Kerberos (PKCROSS) and Public Key Utilizing Tickets for Application Servers (PKTAPP, a.k.a. KX.509/KCA); is given, in terms of computational and communication times. The authors then demonstrate their performance difference using queuing networks. PKTAPP has been proposed to address the scalability issue of PKCROSS. However, their in-depth analysis of these two techniques shows that PKTAPP does not perform better than PKCROSS in a large-scale system. Thus, they propose a new public key cryptography-based group authentication technique. The performance analysis demonstrates that the new technique can scale better than PKCORSS and PKTAPP.

Their paper shows that the increase occurred above the median during the 1980s, and was augmented by rising inequality below the median in the 1990s. These results challenge the pervasive conception of the German wage structure being a paragon of stability.Within the scope of this seminar paper, I replicate parts of their analysis using a different data set, namely the German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP) for the period from 1984 to 2009. Using monthly and hourly earnings constructs, I assess the extent to which the results of Dustmann, Ludsteck, and Schönberg [2009] can be recovered from GSOEP data. I do so by exploring the wage distribution along several dimensions. In addition to this, I analyze composition-constant counterfactual wage densities using the kernel density reweighting method advanced by DiNardo, Fortin, and Lemieux [1996]. A provisional evaluation of my results suggests that I can confirm the majority of findings of the original paper along a qualitative dimension. Macro-finance modelling is an increasingly popular topic. Various approaches have been developing rapidly, usually using econometric techniques. This book focuses on structural approach to an analysis of average yield curve and its dynamics using macroeconomic factors. An underlying model is based on basic Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) approach. Log-linearized solution of the model is the key for derivation of yield curve and its main determinants - pricing kernel, price of risk and affine term structure of interest rates - based on no-arbitrage assumption. The book presents a consistent derivation of a structural macro-finance model, with a reasonable computational burden that allows for time varying term premia. A simple VAR model, widely used in macro-finance literature, serves as a benchmark. The two models are briefly compared and analysis shows their ability to fit an average yield curve observed from the data. It also presents a possible importance of this issue for monetary and fiscal institutions. The book should help shed some light on the use of DSGE framework within macro-finance modelling and should be useful for students and researchers in this field.

RNA secondary structure contains elements like helix, hairpin, internal loop, external loop, multi branch loop, bulge etc.The hairpin, non hairpin, helix and non helix portions are extracted using the representative and the secondary structure. Since sequences are strings of alphabets A, U, C, G and vary in length so they can't be used as such for inputs of neural network. The feature vector is extracted from sequences. Feature vector has eight parameters.

These materials are most likely to disintegrate with time due to physical and chemical weathering. In general, the laboratory investigations on durability characteristics of such materials are only made through simple slaking tests. However, studies examining the effects of slaking-induced disintegration of soil grains on thegeotechnical engineering analysis and design parameters are rather limited. This is essentially due to the reason that the grains of standard laboratory sands are mostly durable and hence, the stress-strain response is considered to be unaffected by the presence of water.In order to explore the possible effects of deterioration of soil grains on static and dynamic properties of granular soils, a series of consolidated drained torsional shear tests on various crushed soft rocks were performed under saturated and dry conditions and compared with a well reported Toyoura silica sand consisting of durable grains. Adders are the basic building blocks of any processor or data path application. In adder design, carry generation is the critical path. To reduce the power consumption of the data path, we need to reduce the area of the adder. Carry Select Adder is one of the fast adders used in may data path applications. The proposed design is implemented without using multiplexer and RCA structure with Cin=1. Instead of using multiplexer and RCA Cin=1 structure, we use simple combinational circuit. After speed, power dissipation is one of the most important design objectives in integrated circuits. As adders are the most widely used components in such circuits, the design of efficient adder is of much concern for researchers.This study presents a performance analysis of different Fast Adders. The comparison is done on the basis of three performance parameters, i.e. Area, Speed and Power consumption. We also show a modified carry select adder designed at different stages.
