This book is focused on the model based design methodology for mechatronic systems in the conceptual stage. It proposes a generic framework model for effective and semi-automated design candidate generation in the conceptual design stage. The specific application is focused on the mobile robots. An application specific toolkit was developed as a tool based on the developed methodology. The methodology specifies toolkits and model libraries which are realized on the example of mobile robotic platform design. Additional toolkits can be developed according to this methodology. The practical implementation of the Mobile Platform Toolkit is presented based on real examples. Two similar mobile robots in a different design stage were selected to illustrate the use of the toolkit. The Workpartner robot from Aalto University is used as an analytical example and the UGV platform from Tallinn University of Technology is utilized as a synthesis example where the developed approach was applied in the conceptual design stage.

For the actual existence of e-government it is necessary and crucial to provide public information and documentation, and making its access simple to citizens. This book contributes with a study about developing e-government systems that process natural language to create structured semantic information which is automatically manipulated to meet citizens' needs and expectations. In order to put this to test, this work was developed in three major phases: (1) design of a conceptual model, in line with the vision of e-government, integrating the creation of structured information and making it available to various actors; (2) selection of state-of-the-art software tools and definition of a prototype instantiating the key modules of the conceptual model, including access based on natural language; (3) assessment of the usability and acceptability of querying information as made possible by the prototype - and in consequence of the conceptual model - by users in a realistic scenario, that includes comparison with forms of access available today in production systems. The evaluation results show that the proposed model was perceived as more effective and useful than the alternatives.

This book describes a parametric model that can help people reason about their decisions related to systems engineering. COSYSMO, the Constructive Systems Engineering Cost Model, contains eighteen parameters: four size drivers and fourteen effort multipliers. It is built on a framework similar to its well-known predecessor, COCOMO II, and integrates accepted systems engineering standards to define its scope. The model focuses on large-scale systems for military applications that employ a disciplined approach to systems engineering. Data were collected from six aerospace companies in the form of expert opinion and historical project data to define and calibrate the model. In reduced form, the model yields a PRED(30) of 50% for programs within a defined productivity range. The audience for this book is twofold: (a) those interested in the theoretical and methodological domain of systems modeling in the quest of a more quantitative cost estimation framework, and (b) those interested in advancing the state of practice in the assessment and tracking of systems engineering in the development of large aerospace systems.

A set of sound measurement models had to be developed for measuring an initially supplied, not yet quantitatively evaluated, conceptual model of Barth and Veit (2011). As the individual parts of the conceptual model are not of a directly observable nature, scale development techniques had to be used to make them empirically manifest (e.g. DeVellis, 2003; Gerbing and Anderson, 1988). A stringent procedure, based on literature recommendations and best practices was followed, as the development of reliable and valid scales is not trivial. This study attempts to develop an optimal methodology for CCT in China, based on review of the literature and empirical data of five semi-structured interviews. A seven-step model is developed, and each step is examined for its effectiveness and applicability in a Chinese context. Ultimately, the final model is presented in the Research Summary, and its implications are discussed in detail.

There are several key ingredients common to the various forms of model-based reasoning. The term "model" comprises both internal and external representations. The models are intended as interpretations of target physical systems, processes, phenomena, or situations. The models are retrieved or constructed on the basis of potentially satisfying salient constraints of the target domain. Moreover, in the modeling process, various forms of abstraction are used. One of its models - the Melitz model of intra-industry trade (2003)- incorporates heterogeneity in firm productivity into a framework based on Krugman (1980). The Melitz model is a corner stone of New Trade Theory models and has been extended in various papers to analyze intra-industry trade with respect to different aspects. One important aspect that is covered intensively in recent literature is the efect of unilateral trade liberalization on a country's welfare. This thesis presents the Melitz model (2003) by firstly illustrating its fundament based onKrugman (1980) and secondly deriving its working mechanisms both for opening for trade as well as for trade liberalization. Further, extensions by Melitz and Ottaviano (2005) and Demidova and Rodriguez-Clarez (2011) will be presented. The thesis concludes by discussing the contribution of the Melitz model to explain occurring trading patterns and its limitations.

The process shall then analyse the Pedagogical Sketchbook (1925), transcribed by Paul Klee in 1918, to critically examine a content of pedagogical homeostatic practice methodology, and focus on a diagrammatic construct within the book, Building a Tower (1918). The attention on an analysis of this diagrammatic has the objective of identifying it as a pedagogical homeostasis model, and to evidence this model informing a modality of balance aesthetic for his later painting, Angelus Novus. Paul Klee's pre-1918 practice is then assessed to distinguish trauma related poiesis, in consideration that psychological imbalance may have triggered instigation of homeostatic methodology within Pedagogical Sketchbook. Paul Klee's painting after Building a Tower, shall then be deconstructed as a methodology of considering its practice influence.
