William S. Plumer Theology for the People

The word THEOLOGY means a discourse concerning God. The word itself is not found in the Scriptures. We have there "the word of God," "good doctrine," "sound doctrine," "form of doctrine," "doctrine of God," "doctrine of Christ," "form of sound words," "the Scriptures," and such like phrases. Theology is divinity, as a theologian is a divine. Theology treats of the being and perfections of God, of his relations to us, his purposes towards us, his promises made to us, his will concerning us, and the right way of pleasing him. We cannot learn theology from other sources, than those which God himself opens to our minds. These are the volume of nature and the volume of revelation. The volume of nature is made up of all God's works. What we learn from it is called Natural Theology. In studying God's works we make use of our reason and of all true science, searching out all that we may know. Natural Theology is the foundation of all true religion.

Her Body Bears the Word is a women’s spirituality book that aims to move women toward a theology of body positivity. It asks several questions. What are the requirements of a female body if that body is to bear the Word of God? What kinds of bodies is God in the business of using? What is the state of the bodies that are acceptable for use by God? All the women whose stories are covered in this book changed the course of the biblical story because they gave their bodies as sacrifices for God.

Stuart L Brogden Captive to the Word of God. A Particular Baptist Perspective On Reformed And Covenant Theology

April 18th, 1521. Martin Luther was on trial for believing the Scriptures were the ultimate authority for the Christian, rather than dogma developed by men. He is quoted as having said, “My conscience is captive to the Word of God” when asked to recant his writings. I’ve taken part of Luther’s statement as my title because while I am thankful to God for myriad men in the Reformed Baptist world that have taught me much, I cannot claim full allegiance to a document written in the 17th century; it beingmostly right. The Word of God – alone! – demands and warrants our full allegiance. While we have disagreements, let Holy Writ be our foundation and wisdom as we test all things and hold to that which is good.In four parts, this book examines the history of Baptists and the distinctives that mark them; how Baptists fit into and should view reformed theology; a Baptist view of the covenants in Scripture; and what these theological and doctrinal concepts look like when practiced in a local church.Powerfully Written! An Excellent, Exciting Exposition of the Word of God! This book introduces and orients the reader to critical biblical/theological thinking -- with a clarity that fosters biblical thought and facilitates Bible comprehension.

Warren Reid Power Up with God

How precious is the Word of God? Jesus said in Matthew 4:4 that ?Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.? Yet though God?s Word is precious and nourishing to our hearts, minds, and souls, so few of us know it and know how to apply it. Power Up with God hopes to remedy this deficiency and help believers get the benefits of applying every word of God. We can read or hear the words from the preacher?s pulpit, but we will gain nothing until we begin to eat the Word of God. The adage ?You are what you eat? is true in both the physical and spiritual worlds, and unless we eat the Word of God, we can become weak and sick?even to the point of death. If we go without food and water, we will become weak. And because we cannot live by bread alone, if we go without the spiritual nourishment of God?s Word, then we will become spiritually malnourished. Therefore, it is essential to read, study, and apply the teachings of the Word, and Power Up with God will show you how to devote yourself to this spiritual diet and make your life happy and prosperous.

W. Ross Hastings Echoes of Coinherence

This book re-imagines the universe (and the scientific study of it) through the lens of a triune Creator, three persons of irreducible identity in a perichoretic or coinherent communion. It modestly proposes that Trinitarian theology, and especially the coinherent natures of the Son in the incarnation, provides the metaphysic or ""theory of everything"" that manifests itself in the subject matter of science. The presence of the image of the triune God in humanity and of traces of this God in the non-human creation are discussed, highlighting ontological resonances between God and creation (resonances between the being of God and his creation), such as goodness, immensity-yet-particularity, intelligibility, agency, relationality, and beauty. This Trinitarian reality suggests there should be a similarity also with respect to how we know in theology and science (critical realism), something reflected in the history of ideas in each. These resonances lead to the conclusion that the disciplines of theology and science are, in fact, coinherent, not conflicted. This involves recognition of both the mutuality of these vocations and also, importantly, their particularity. Science, its own distinct guild, yet finds its place ensconced within an encyclopedic theology, and subject to first-order, credal theology.""'Trinitarian theology as a ""theory of everything""'!? Dave Armstrong Theology of God

The doctrine of God remains as important as ever. The Apostle Paul rebuked the Corinthians in the first century for accepting "another Jesus" and "a different gospel" (2 Cor 11:4). Denial of the deity of Christ and the Holy Trinity were no doubt among the falsehoods condemned by Paul as "doctrines of demons" (1 Tim 4:1). Christians need to know the biblical basis for these beliefs, in view of the many historic heresies and recent fashionable nonsense such as open theism and process theology. My emphasis is on a listing of many scores of relevant Bible passages (systematic theology). Additionally, I attempt to explain "theology proper" in laymen's terms, so that, with the aid of this book, soaked with Scripture, anyone will be able to defend the biblical (and Nicene, Chalcedonian) truths of the Holy Trinity, Jesus as the incarnate God, and the divinity of the Holy Spirit. The coherence and truthfulness of orthodox, biblical theology of God is evident, the more these passages are understood.

William Porter More God-Centric and Less Situation-Centric Living

We know that God works in mysterious ways, yet the mysteries of God can leave us with lifelong questions about his nature and character. Thankfully, God has provided us with a way to understand him and ourselves betterand that is by focusing on him and on his Word. In More God-centric and Less Situation-centric Living, author William Bill Porter encourages us to shift the focus of our lives and our thoughts back to God and away from ourselves. By creating a theology of the inherent goodness of God, Porter shows how a God-centric life is a life of almost total submission to Gods sovereignty, and that many churches today do not teach the truth that God is about more than solving personal problems. More God-centric living enables you to acknowledge, accept, and use all the fruits of the Spirit and then walk with contentment into the gardens of both the bouquets and weeds of life, as the apostle Paul encouraged us in Philippians 4:12. You will acknowledge and walk in the realization that the gospel is not just the good news of Godbut that God is the good news! That God rules! That God is sovereign! And that God is central!

Judith Attfield The I of God. From Chaos to Creation

Using philosophy, mathematics, theology, quantum mechanics, and personal stories, The I of God takes the reader on a journey from being in a relationship with God to being god ourselves. In our world, the F-word is more acceptable than the G-word because we have consigned God to the realm of religious propaganda as opposed to the realm of living. The I of God removes God from being the old man who sits up in the sky, judging us, to putting us in the driver?s seat. This is not a religious/spiritual book but a book about how tough it is to realize our potential as humans. It requires courage to be ourselves and not go by our beliefs about who we should be. The I of God shows how we understand our creative divinity by experiencing our human qualities. Our conscious ability to daydream, have drives, tell stories, remember our histories, and have personal, spiritual, and cultural views of the world are a reflection of our godliness at the primordial level.

Thorsten Prill German Protestantism and the Spirit of God. From Luther to Moltmann

Document from the year 2010 in the subject Theology - Systematic Theology, grade: none, , course: Namibia Evangelical Theological Seminary, language: English, abstract: "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen". For regular worshippers in German-speaking Lutheran and Reformed churches, these words spoken by the pastor are very familiar, as they mark the beginning of every Sunday service. With these words the pastor reminds the congregation in whose name they are gathered and whom they are called to worship. Later on in the service, the congregation is asked to stand and confess their faith with the words of the Apostle's Creed or, on special occasions, the Nicene Creed. Again, the third person of the Trinity is mentioned. However, in many German-speaking Lutheran and Reformed churches God often is not really worshipped as Trinity. God is presented and understood as God the Father and God the Son. In other words, there is an inadequate understanding of the triune God in mainstream German Protestant churches and a lack of emphasis on the work of the Holy Spirit. This phenomenon is rooted in German Protestant theology and can be traced back through the ages and the theological schools to Reformation times.

Down through the centuries, theology has produced many unresolved debates, but when a person has a genuine, spiritual experience, theology and debate have little, if any, relevance. In the pages of this book you will find numerous supernatural encounters with the Creator of the Universe, spiritual experiences, most of which the author has played a role in and been a witness to. These events have shaped and molded the author’s life dramatically, in a fashion that goes beyond theology and doctrine. This has been a spiritual journey, one that will inspire and challenge the reader to experience all of God there is and receive all that God has provided.

One of the major controversies of the world today is different religious-belief systems in a Supreme Being known as God. Mankind has an instinct in them about the existence of God who cannot be seen with the aid of the eyes or instruments. So we have different views about God. Some attribute God as being a force, while others believe that God is a form without shape, and are unclear about the existence of God. The knowledge gap difference in knowing who God truly is has been the primary cause of the world’s religious conflict.Everyone intuitively talks about God whether we deny His existence or not. Who then is God?By using The Word of God as reference, Alfred Adjarho explains who God really is and how man can understand Him.Alfred Adjarho is a child of God who has studied the word of God for almost three decades. Are postmodern philosophy and Christian theology compatible? A surprising number of Christian philosophers and theologians think so. However, these same thinkers argue that postmodern insights entail the rejection of natural theology, the ability to discover knowledge about the existence and nature of God in the natural world. Postmodernism, they claim, shows that appealing to nature to demonstrate or infer the existence of God is foolish because these appeals rely on modernity's outmoded grounds for knowledge. Moreover, natural theology and apologetics are often hindrances to authentic Christian faith. Notions like objectivity and rationality are forms of idolatry from which Christians should repent. This book carefully examines the nature of truth, rationality, general revelation, and evangelism to show that the postmodern objections fail and that Christians ought to lovingly and faithfully use natural theology and apologetics to defend and commend the Christian faith to a world in need of the knowledge of God.""Andrew Shepardson has done evangelicals a great service. He carefully has exposited and assessed the views of several leading postmodern evangelicals who reject natural theology and apologetics. Contrary to their claims, he makes a compelling case that these tools are not dead in our postmodern milieu; indeed, they are vitally needed. Matthew S. Farlow The Dramatizing of Theology

Matthew Farlow traces the thoughts of Balthasar and Barth so as to enter into theological truth of God's Being-in-Act. This exploration embarks on a journey into the reality of our Triune God who has engaged his creation so as to elicit fellow actors. God seeking out humanity is God with us, a truth that not only informs our theological endeavors, but invites us into the dramatic performance of reconciliation. As Farlow illumines, God is an acting God who seeks fellow participants in his ongoing drama of salvation. Through the dramatizing of theology, the church and her theologians come to realize God's threefold movement--revelation, invitation and reconciliation. It is a unified act that startles humanity, and thus theology, out of its ""spectator's seat,"" so as to drag it onto the world's stage. As Farlow discusses, it is through the dramatizing of theology that we find ourselves best equipped to participate faithfully in the role of a lifetime.""This is a serious theological reflection . . . . Farlow uses the thought of Barth and Balthasar to draw us into the divine drama so that we are personally encountered by Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and invited into our lifetime roles. It was Shakespeare who told us that 'all the world is a stage'; Farlow reminds us that we are all invited to become actors in the divine play of life. When we engage and encounter the living Christ, we enter into the divine narrative most fully as pe...

Bruce G Epperly Angels, Mysteries, and Miracles. A Progressive Vision

There is a tendency among modern Christians to avoid comment on the idea of miracles or mysterious events that might indicate the direct intervention of God. There is an even more pronounced belief that modern liberal or progressive Christians will avoid these ideas. A God who is distant, the source of everything, is acceptable, but the idea of supernatural activity is embarrassing at best. There is virtually no room for theological discussions of angels, demons, and paranormal experiences.Bruce Epperly is a process theologian and a leading thinker in progressive Christian theology, and he believes we need to take another look at God and God’s involvement in the universe in which we live. Rather than finding ways to defend the intrusive interventions of a distant, supernatural God in the traditional sense of the word “miracle,” Bruce sees God as closer; so close, in fact, that God is part of all events. God providentially acts in all things, not in terms of outside intervention, but through ongoing natural interactions that change our lives and the world.Join Dr. Bruce Epperly as he explores a world of wonders in which is God uncomfortably and comfortingly, subtly and actively present.

Patrick Markley Baptism in the Holy Spirit with Speaking in Tongues

In the Christian community there are many controversial and misunderstood gifts of God. But none of God's gifts to His children seem to elicit as much excitement and as much misunderstanding as the gift of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with Speaking in Tongues. This gift is extremely important for growth and awareness of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit of God and for the development of the power of God in the life of the Christian. This book is the result of working and collaborating with God's people to present this subject from God's word in text that is easily understood. It is our desire to share the wisdom God has given to us through this work.

Flora Dukes Let the Church Say Hallelujah.

The Sanctuary or Church of Christ Jesus is our hospital and another throne we come to for dumping our hurts and renewing of our minds. As we come in and as we go out, if we believe the Word of God, we should be excited about what the Word of God reveals about who we are in Him. We should leave Church stronger than before because of what we have been taught, andbelieve Gods Holy message being explained to us. We have to examine the Word of God to know the truth is being taught.(1 John 2:13, 5:4, KJV ref only)Our Pastors should not have to plead for a response to the anointed Word of God during service. I hear pastors/teachers/ministers saying, Come on somebody? Can I get the Church to say amen? Are you all getting the message? Are you all awake? It is dishonorable not to respond with praise to the awesome Word of God.(Hebrews 13:15-17, AMPC ref only)Did you know were doxological? Meaningwe were made to worship the Lord of lords, who is the King of kings, Jesus our Savior, with our expressions in songs, hymns, praises and our lifestyles! We have so many reasons to praise God, and to be thankful as Christ believers.(Isaiah 56:7, AMPC ref only)PRAISE THE LORD! Sing to the Lord a new song, praise Him in the assembly of His saints! Let the high praises of God be in their throats and a two-edged sword in their hands(Psalm 149:1, 6, AMPC)

Rev. Fr. Anthony Coniaris Preaching the Word of God

Preaching has always been one of the primary means by which the Holy Spirit has worked, and is working, to renew the life of the Church. Herein also lies its priority. Thus, the priority of preaching established by Jesus, lived out in the ministry of the early apostles and the Church Fathers, incorporated into the very Liturgy itself, calls on us to “preach the word…in season and out of season” (2 Tim 4.2) “rightly handling the word of truth” (2 Tim 2.15). At the close of the anaphora or eucharistic canon, the priest commemorates the holy Orthodox patriarchs and the local bishop, beseeching God to “grant them for your holy churches…to rightly define the word of your truth.” Thus preserving and proclaiming the faith “once delivered to the saints” through the medium of preaching occupies a central role in the divine economy of salvation.Although directed primarily to those who preach or wish to preach the word of God, the present volume offers much more in terms of spiritual nourishment to all Christians. It is in fact a book that can be read with great profit by everyone interested in a living faith.

Envisioning the Good Life

Who is God? What is God's relation to the world? How is God disposed towards us? What does God ask of us? These questions are not mere intellectual puzzles. They matter for us. A disinterested theology would be no theology at all, for we are fundamentally, at our very core, invested in God. God is the one who concerns us most deeply. Put differently, any theology worth the name is, as Miroslav Volf has put it, theology "for a way of life." We ask theological questions as those whose lives depend on the God whose character we try to articulate in the answers--and also in the asking. How we ask and answer these questions gives shape to our lives. In this volume, published in Volf's honor, leading Christian, Jewish, and Muslim theological scholars reflect on the shapes flourishing human life takes in light of God. Considering concrete questions--from how to talk about suffering to the value of singing in congregational worship--in light of their deep theological commitments, the contributors exemplify the kind of theological reflection our cultures so deeply need."Miroslav Volf loves a good conversation. And this book is exactly that, a conversation in his honor which explores a theme that he has so illumined with his own work over recent years: what it means for human beings to flourish in relation to each other and to the God who is Love."--Graham Tomlin, Bishop of Kensington, London; President, St. Mellitus College"Volf is one of the greatest theolo...

Lewis Sperry Chafer Grace. The Glorious Theme

"Grace" is one of the most frequent terms and one of the most significant concepts in the entire Bible. But what does this word mean and why does God consider it to be so important? Lewis Sperry Chafer writes in his introduction: "The exact and discriminate meaning of the word "grace" should be crystal clear to every child of God. Only with such insight can he feed his own soul on the inexhaustible riches which it unfolds, and only with such understanding can he be enabled to clearly pass on to others its marvelous, transforming theme." God's grace saves the lost and sanctifies the saved. It provides, enables, and governs the entire Christian life as God designed it to be lived to His glory. Discover in GRACE: THE GLORIOUS THEME the richness of God's liberating grace as it's revealed in God's Word. Chafer's classic treatment provides a clear, systematic, and comprehensive exposition of biblical teaching on the subject of God's grace, carefully distinguishing the dispensational economies of law, grace, and kingdom.

Roy D. Kindelberger God.s Absence and the Charismatic Presence

The author's theological inquiry is intended to raise questions of interpretation within the camp of openness theology and to direct a discussion on the implications of this movement for the charismatic/Pentecostal community. Open theism or openness theology affirms that the universe is open, the future is not settled, God is essentially relational love, and the risks of love and the threats against it are real. The author digs deep into this area of doctrine in order to question how far openness theology is willing to go. Is it only the future that is open to God, or are there perhaps unknown aspects to the past and present as well? What does God know about sin, and when does he know it? Is it possible for God to be totally absent from a person's life or even from an entire nation? If God can be absent, can he also be exceptionally present in the lives of believers? What would the divine presence and the charismata (spiritual ministries) look like in an open universe?""This book draws on a lifetime of Christian leadership experience alongside patient biblical analysis in order to make a case for a dynamic understanding of how God acts in the world. . . . This book will be intriguing, inspiring, and challenging, but wherever the place of the reader on the Christian journey, this book will offer guidance that will feed the mind as well as the spirit.""--Celia Deane-Drummond, Professor of Theology, University of Notre Dame""This is a helpful expl...

Susan Windley-Daoust Theology of the Body, Extended

Pope John Paul II expected theologians to expand their insights of the 129 lectures given during his Wednesday audiences in St. Peter's Square and Paul VI Audience Hall between September 1979 and November 1984. However, his integrated vision of the human person - body, soul, and spirit - has rarely gone beyond the popular topics of moral theology associated with sexuality and marriage. Now, Susan Windley-Daoust, a passionate disciple of John Paul's complete work, devoted spiritual director, and popular Assistant Professor of Theology at St. Mary's University of Minnesota, extends the Theology of the Body to what it means to be human during the experiences of childbirth, impairment, and dying. Are there spiritual signs in these bodily events that are central to the human experience? Oh yes! And the signs mysteriously and wonderfully point to God.

Billy Crone The Character of God

The American Church has fallen under a horrible epidemic where professing believers in God no longer believe in God. They say they do, but most of the time they act like He's not there with their lips and their lives. This unfortunate behavior has now produced a generation of Churches full of so-called Christians who are living like practical atheists, destroying not only their supposed walk with God, but its keeping others from believing in God. Therefore, to avoid this irony of Christian's living like practical atheists, this book, The Character of God seeks to equip you with an intimate knowledge of the One and Only True God from the Word of God, the Bible.

Reg Dyett A Family Conversation about GOD. Does God Exist. Who is Right, Who is Wrong, You be the Judge.

The book is written in a conversational style. A family sitting around the table discussing the existence and nature of God: evolution and the human soul: the basis of morality; the nature of theology and religious belief; the present life versus the putative afterlife and the role of the Catholic Church. It is a very clever book and engages the reader throughout the book captivating them with the point of views between the 3 protagonist. It is a wonderful read for all those interested in Theology.

Unlike Raimon Panikkar or David Bohm, Ross Hastings' vision of triune...
