Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Economics - Other, grade: A, Charles University in Prague, language: English, abstract: This work estimates the reform determinants for 24 transition countries using spatial econometric by maximum likelihood estimation. In the paper, determinants already used by other authors are included, as well as two new variables - export and foreign direct investments measures. Another distinctive characteristic is inclusion of spatial endogenous and exogenous variables as explanatory variables through the use of weights matrix - W. Spatial interaction is reflected by scoping on the importance of distance and informational spillovers. Obtained spatial interaction is positive and high in value. Coefficient rho varying in the range 0.22 to 0.71 indicates that in open economy countries adopt success and failure of reforming in neighboring countries. From spatial exogenous coefficients I obtained significant democracy, inflation, export and FDI coefficients. It gives idea that processes occurring in one country: level of investments, quality of democracy and level of domestic production is affecting and stimulating reforming in countries under similar economic or geopolitical status. I also found that the initial effect of GDP growth, FDI and democracy are important determiners of reforming process.

Such agricultural management may be inefficient due to under-application or over-application in specific sites. Under-application zones do not reach optimal levels of grass yield whereas in over-application areas there will be an increase of costs and high risk of environmental pollution such as runoff with high P or nitrogen (N) concentrations which can cause water eutrophication. This book,therefore, provides a combined spatial analysis method (geostatistics, GIS and Moran's I) to reveal spatial pattern and to produce spatial distribution maps of soil nutrients at field- and farm- scales in temporate grasslands. Until recently cycling destinations were mainly limited to flatter regions. This study's objective is to evaluate whether the advent of electric bicycles expands the spatial potential for (electric) cycle tourism in any topographic setting. By means of an online survey of e-bike rental companies and expert interviews with the regional project coordinators, this study compares supply and demand of three sample destinations with different landscape types: the Tauber River valley region and the southern Black Forest Mittelgebirge in Germany as well as the Schladming-Dachstein alpine region in Austria. The results show that most tourists used the e-bike offers spontaneously and chose the destination by other motivations. However, the study also shows that many of these tourists would not consider a bike tour on a normal bicycle. Thus, for many tourists e-bikes hold the potential to extend the radius of the actively usable tourist areas in mountainous destinations. Characterizing the dynamics of landscape spatial patterns in the Miombo is fundamental to understanding the impacts of changes in landscape structure on ecological processes and functions. Land Cover Dynamics in Miombo Ecosystems examines methodologies for computer-aided classification of Landsat TM data for mapping land use and land cover in Miombo ecosystems in Southern Africa. The study contributes in analytical description of spatial diffusion of fertility, in particular, influenced by labour movements of people between places of residence and work. It is assumed that the labour market has externality on the marriage market due to commuting, which, in turn, affects fertility. A model of spatial diffusion of fertility is based on assumption of global and local spillover effects. The global spillover effect, as shifts in fertility norms, is motivated by increasing variance of social interactions of an individual, when places of work and residence are different. One local spillover effect is in response to flows of earnings across space. Another mechanism is related to expected changes in probabilities to find a partner affected by differences in day and night population. The analytical model, in which the effects on fertility of the cited spillovers are decomposed, is constructed in the paper on the base of a model of the demand for children, spatial stock-flow model of a market, and a matching model with a sex imbalance or spatial mismatch as the probability of matching. Three sex imbalances, namely of night-, day-time population and an adjusted to sex imbalance of commuters to residents are empirically tested. Empirical evidence on municipal Swedish data for the period 1994–2008 does not provide any strong evidence of spatial diffusion of fertility. However, there are externalities of labour mobility on fertility due to changes of gender structure of population.

In recent years, questions of space have gained renewed momentum in architecture and urban design, as adaptation, densification and sustainable regeneration have become an increasing priority. While most computing-based design tends to emphasise the formal aspects of architecture, overlooking space and its users, the ‘original’ computational design approaches first spearheaded in the UK in the 1960s and 1970s tended to be focused on behavioural and occupational patterns. Over the last decade, a new generation of design research has emerged that has started to implement and validate previous investigations into spatial computation, aiming to understand how to design spatial configurations based on user experiences. This revives an interest in the experiential that was first explored in the early 20th century by German and Nordic organic architects, who invented design methods that correlated cognitive responses of buildings' occupants to spatial structure. The current revival of human-centric design, however, represents the first design approach that synthesises spatial design and algorithmic techniques with organic design thinking, which could also be regarded as a return to the ‘first principles' of architectural design. This study examined the spatial variations in temperature and relative humidity; assessed spatial variation in thermal comfort in Southwest Nigeria between 1960 and 2013; and assessed the responses of inhabitants of selected medium-sized settlements (Eruwa in the guinea savannah and Ile-Ife in tropical rainforest eco-climatic zones) to thermal stress. These were with a view to determining the thermal comfort level for the study area. Both primary and secondary data were be used for this study. The primary data was obtained with a semi-structured questionnaire which was administered to the sample population of selected settlements in Ile-Ife and Eruwa. The secondary data includes temperature, relative humidity and thermal comfort indices(relative strain index, effective temperature index and dewpoint temperature).

In order to examine factors which may increase individual's engagement in climate change issue, different levels of spatial (Local - Global) and temporal (Near Future - Future) dimensions of psychological distance are analyzed into fear campaigns, using Witte's EPPM principles. In particular, it was supposed that individual's perceived vulnerability and perceived severity of the threat mediate this relationship. In the study, three main assumption were examined. The first one proposed that Local messages, compared to Global, were more effective in increasing individual's perceived vulnerability, and that this would increase individual's engagement with the climate issue. The second conjecture started with an inquisition concerning whether Local or Global message lead to more severity, assuming that the level of increased perceived severity would increase individual's engagement with climate change. The third hypothesis supposed that the use of a Near Future temporal representation, in comparison to a distant Future representation, was more effective in increasing individual's perceived vulnerability and severity, and this would lead to a higher ...

Under this perspective, there is an increasing need for reliable and meaningful baseline maps to provide decision-makers with straightforward information on the intrinsic biological value of a given marine/coastal area. The aims of this work are (1) to establish a spatial biological valuation of the Belgian coastal zone, using Marine Biological Valuation methods (MBV) (Derous 2007); and (2) to explore the applications of MBV for EB-MSP under different scenarios of space-use conflict at the Belgian coast (beach nourishment and nature conservation). Biological data from 1995 to 2011 on four ecosystem components (macrobenthos,epibenthos, hyperbenthos, and avifauna) have been integrated into a single database and used to perform MBV. Despite time constraints, spatial coverage and overall data availability were surprisingly satisfactory and allowed for significant trends and patterns to be observed.
