Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject Cultural Studies - Basics and Definitions, grade: A, Ewha Womans University (Graduate School of International Studies), course: Comparative Society and Culture , 20 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: This paper deals with three of the original six different topics about spatial locations. Namely, Maps, Nations and Regions and Spatial Segregation. The whole analysis refers solely to three countries: the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Ecuador. Nevertheless, following the example of Carol Delany in her book "Investigating Culture", the most important and most specific examples of these topics of spatial locations within these countries will be given - focusing on concrete examples. The aim of this term paper is to analyze the three countries from three different continents regarding their specific understandings of their map, their nation(s), their region, and spatial segregation inside the country. Thus, one can say that the content of this work refers to the historical part of space / spatial locations within these countries. After an introduction, in the main part, beginning with the description of the countries' maps the analysis starts with the actual situation of the countries' borders, meaning how these countries are geographically located in the world community and how they see themselves there today. Following, an analysis of the creation of the...

The conditions for non-EU migrant workers to gain legal entry to Britain, France, and Germany are at the same time similar and quite different. To explain this variation this book compares the fine-grained legal categories for migrant workers in each country, and examines the interaction of economic, social, and cultural rationales in determining migrant legality. Rather than investigating the failure of borders to keep unauthorized migrants out, the author highlights the different policies of each country as "border-drawing" actions. Policymakers draw lines between different migrant groups, and between migrants and citizens, through considerations of both their economic utility and skills, but also their places of origin and prospects for social integration. Overall, migrant worker legality is arranged against the backdrop of the specific vision each country has of itself in an economically competitive, globalized world with rapidly changing welfare and citizenship models.

Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Economics - Other, grade: A, Charles University in Prague, language: English, abstract: This work estimates the reform determinants for 24 transition countries using spatial econometric by maximum likelihood estimation. In the paper, determinants already used by other authors are included, as well as two new variables - export and foreign direct investments measures. Another distinctive characteristic is inclusion of spatial endogenous and exogenous variables as explanatory variables through the use of weights matrix - W. Spatial interaction is reflected by scoping on the importance of distance and informational spillovers. Obtained spatial interaction is positive and high in value. Coefficient rho varying in the range 0.22 to 0.71 indicates that in open economy countries adopt success and failure of reforming in neighboring countries. From spatial exogenous coefficients I obtained significant democracy, inflation, export and FDI coefficients. It gives idea that processes occurring in one country: level of investments, quality of democracy and level of domestic production is affecting and stimulating reforming in countries under similar economic or geopolitical status. I also found that the initial effect of GDP growth, FDI and democracy are important determiners of reforming process.

This study investigated the socio-economic effects of migration on places of origin in rural Ankole, Western Uganda in 1990-2000. The study was carried out in the migrants area of origin not migrants area of destination. A sample of 300 households comprised of 2024 people was drawn from two counties (Igara and Ruhinda) of Bushenyi District, Western Uganda. Households with or without people who have migrated were compared to ascertain socio-economic differences in their status. A total of 148 households who have had out migrants and 152 households that have had migrants were compared. The independent variable was migration status of the household (migrant or non migrant) and the dependent variables were education, health, possessions in form of fixed assets, type of housing and affordability of certain food assets. A socio-economic index was computed to analyze expenditure patterns and well-being of the households. This was done because it is difficult to establish income levels of rural people. The socio-economic index shows the socio-economic status between households of migrants and non migrants.

A ground-up approach to explaining dynamic spatial modelling for an interdisciplinary audience. Across broad areas of the environmental and social sciences, simulation models are an important way to study systems inaccessible to scientific experimental and observational methods, and also an essential complement to those more conventional approaches. The contemporary research literature is teeming with abstract simulation models whose presentation is mathematically demanding and requires a high level of knowledge of quantitative and computational methods and approaches. Furthermore, simulation models designed to represent specific systems and phenomena are often complicated, and, as a result, difficult to reconstruct from their descriptions in the literature. This book aims to provide a practical and accessible account of dynamic spatial modelling, while also equipping readers with a sound conceptual foundation in the subject, and a useful introduction to the wide-ranging literature. Spatial Simulation: Exploring Pattern and Process is organised around the idea that a small number of spatial processes underlie the wide variety of dynamic spatial models. Its central focus on three ‘building-blocks’ of dynamic spatial models – forces of attraction and segregation, individual mobile entities, and processes of spread – guides the reader to an understanding of the basis of many of the complicated models found in the research literature. The three building block models are presented in their simplest form and are progressively elaborated and related to real world process that can be represented using them. Introductory chapters cover essential background topics, particularly the relationships between pattern, process and spatiotemporal scale. Additional chapters consider how time and space can be represented in more complicated models, and methods for the analysis and evaluation of models. Finally, the three building block models are woven together in a more elaborate example to show how a complicated model can be assembled from relatively simple components. To aid understanding, more than 50 specific models described in the book are available online at patternandprocess.org for exploration in the freely available Netlogo platform. This book encourages readers to develop intuition for the abstract types of model that are likely to be appropriate for application in any specific context. Spatial Simulation: Exploring Pattern and Process will be of interest to undergraduate and graduate students taking courses in environmental, social, ecological and geographical disciplines. Researchers and professionals who require a non-specialist introduction will also find this book an invaluable guide to dynamic spatial simulation.

This book provides an introduction to spatial analyses concerning disaggregated (or micro) spatial data. Particular emphasis is put on spatial data compilation and the structuring of the connections between the observations. Descriptive analysis methods of spatial data are presented in order to identify and measure the spatial, global and local dependency. The authors then focus on autoregressive spatial models, to control the problem of spatial dependency between the residues of a basic linear statistical model, thereby contravening one of the basic hypotheses of the ordinary least squares approach. This book is a popularized reference for students looking to work with spatialized data, but who do not have the advanced statistical theoretical basics.

Economic arrangements of Romanies are complexly related to their social position. The authors of this volume explore these complexities, including how economic exchanges forge key social relationships of gender and ethnicity, how economic opportunities are constructed and seized, and how economic success and failure are transformed into attributes of social persons. They explore how, despite - or perhaps because of - their unstable and ambiguous position within the market economy, shared today with a growing number of people facing precarity and informalisation, Roma and Gypsy communities continuously re-create more or less viable economic strategies. The ethnographically based chapters share accounts of socially and economically vulnerable populations that face their situation with self-determination and creativity.

Spatial reasoning tests are widely used during selection processes which require an ability to use practical and visual skills. They are more common in jobs such as engineering and driving roles but are also more and more being utilised on medical and science roles. Spatial reasoning, or ability as it is sometimes called, involves the candidate visualising and then manipulating different complex shapes and patterns. Competence in spatial awareness is said to be mostly inherited; however, tests have proven that your ability in this type of test can be greatly improved with targeted practice. This book will provide you with over 230 pages of sample spatial reasoning test questions and answers to help you prepare thoroughly for the tests.

In the spatial or spatio-temporal context, specifying the correct covariance function is fundamental to obtain efficient predictions, and to understand the underlying physical process of interest. This book focuses on covariance and variogram functions, their role in prediction, and appropriate choice of these functions in applications. Both recent and more established methods are illustrated to assess many common assumptions on these functions, such as, isotropy, separability, symmetry, and intrinsic correlation. After an extensive introduction to spatial methodology, the book details the effects of common covariance assumptions and addresses methods to assess the appropriateness of such assumptions for various data structures. Key features: An extensive introduction to spatial methodology including a survey of spatial covariance functions and their use in spatial prediction (kriging) is given. Explores methodology for assessing the appropriateness of assumptions on covariance functions in the spatial, spatio-temporal, multivariate spatial, and point pattern settings. Provides illustrations of all methods based on data and simulation experiments to demonstrate all methodology and guide to proper usage of all methods. Presents a brief survey of spatial and spatio-temporal models, highlighting the Gaussian case and the binary data setting, along with the different methodologies for estimation and model fitting for these two data structures. Discusses models that allow for anisotropic and nonseparable behaviour in covariance functions in the spatial, spatio-temporal and multivariate settings. Gives an introduction to point pattern models, including testing for randomness, and fitting regular and clustered point patterns. The importance and assessment of isotropy of point patterns is detailed. Statisticians, researchers, and data analysts working with spatial and space-time data will benefit from this book as well as will graduate students with a background in basic statistics following courses in engineering, quantitative ecology or atmospheric science.

Ethiopian migrant workers, a great majority of whom being women, travel through regular and irregular channels to get to some of their major destination countries in the Middle East and the Gulf. These migrant workers primarily engage in low skilled areas of domestic and care services which are often left out of a right based discourse. Domestic and care works, often occupied by migrant domestic workers, are not regarded as work proper and therefore they are not regulated by the domestic labor laws of destination countries. However, the major problems faced by migrant domestic workers are violations of those basic rights, which are suppose to be protected under International Human Rights instruments and the international law on migration. This book analyzes the body of international human rights instruments and international law on migration and their applicability to migrant workers in general and migrant domestic workers in particular including those in irregular situation. Furthermore, it expounds on the history, trajectory, push and pull factors of Ethiopians' labor migration as well as the abuses and violations that this group suffers in all stages of the migration process.

Essay from the year 2011 in the subject Urban and Regional Planning, grade: A, London School of Economics, course: Urban studies, language: English, abstract: "Mistakes were certainly made. The private banks failed, the supervisory system failed, the politics failed, the administration failed, the media failed, and the ideology of an unregulated free market utterly failed. This has called for a fundamental review of many elements of our society. In that respect, democracy, the rule of law and close international cooperation has been and will continue to be our strongest weapons" Prime Minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir reflecting on the Icelandic economic collapse, 12 April 2010.The neoliberal experiment which was undertaken in Iceland, from the 1990s up to the financial collapse of 2008, generated unprecedented inequality not just in the country's income distribution (Olafsson & Kristjansdóttir 2010) but in the built environment as well. This paper outlines the spatial inequality that has emerged in the city of Reykjavík and its political, economic, cultural context. Different urban artifacts are examined through Sennett's concept of Open City, which gives us the instrument to value their spatial definition. Finally we ask ourselves whether the political revolution that followed the economic meltdown has produced signs of change in our city.

This book addresses the field of geographic information extraction and retrieval from textual documents. Geographic information retrieval is a rapidly emerging subject, a trend fostered by the growing power of the Internet and the emerging possibilities of data dissemination. After positioning his work in this field in Chapter 1, the author makes proposals in the following two chapters. Chapter 2 focuses on spatial and temporal information indexing and retrieval in corpora of textual documents. Propositions for both spatial and temporal information retrieval (IR) are made. Chapter 3 tackles the use of generalized spatial and temporal indexes, which are produced from there in the framework of multi-criteria IR. Geographic IR (GIR) is discussed at length, since this IR combines the criteria of spatial, temporal and thematic research. The author provides a rich bibliographical study of the current approaches focused on the modeling and retrieval of spatial and temporal information in textual documents, and similarity measures developed thus far in the literature. The book concludes with a broad perspective of the remaining scientific challenges. Several areas of research are discussed, such as integration of a domain-based ontology, modeling of spatial footprints from the interpretation of spatial relation, and parsing of relations between features deemed relevant within a document resulting from a GIR process. Much has been written on how to build and grow successful corporations. And yet, traditionally, management gurus often hesitated to explore the role that culture played in corporate success and growth. Recently however, and especially in our straitened economic climate, it has become more acceptable to surmise that culture does indeed play a significant role and to explore alternate, culturally-infused paths to corporate success.Author Lena Tran is right on the money in her new book from Happy About, Compassionate Vietnamese American CEOs. She explores the role of culture, particularly Vietnamese culture, in creating business success. Interviewing several community visionaries--including one billionaire and a couple of millionaires--who worked for major high-tech enterprises, Lena explores the cultural context and values they brought to bear to build happy and successful companies, even in turbulent economic times. Using a rigorous and analytic interview approach, she describes how success can be hinged on core values built upon cultural beliefs, family traditions and time-honored, culturally-contextual leadership practices. The author's purpose is to nurture an understanding of the deep connections between culture and corporate success, and at the same time tell an interesting and engaging story. In this she succeeds with remarkable ease and clarity. She narrates how each of her interviewees sought to blend their deep-rooted cultural beliefs with western leadership theori...

In so doing, it adds to theoretical explorations of spatial justice a keen attentiveness to lived experiences of the local, while also questioning any romanticized or essentialist reading of diaspora. Bringing to the fore innovative interdisciplinary scholarship, Spatial Justice and Diaspora offers a new critical intervention at the intersection of these fields.

Inhaltsangabe:Introduction: This thesis tries to examine the structures, activities, changes and spatial impacts of economic development in Scotland. Looking at the Scottish economy it has to be considered that Scotland is both an integrated part of the UK and the UK economy and a peripheral region within the UK. Therefore Scotland does not have an economy of its own, but the distinctiveness of the region in terms of location, history and recent political devel-opments justifies a closer examination of the matter. Scotland is in many aspects a very heterogeneous region. This is in particular true for the economic structure and a focus on one region cannot be representative. Edinburgh is an exceptionally prosperous region, not only in Scottish terms. However this prosperity and activity in economic development makes Edinburgh an interesting subject for examination. Thus the focus of this thesis lies on the developments in Edinburgh. Economic development is certainly influenced by a vast number of factors and it is impossible to take all of them into account. Within this thesis the emphasis lies on governmental influence on the developments. However European development measures are not considered. Accordingly the thesis aims to look at the ways the promotion of economic development is carried out in Scotland and tries to assess the measures on the background of the distinctiveness of Scotland and Edinburgh. Presents an overview of the complex biological systems used within a global public health setting and features a focus on malaria analysis Bridging the gap between agent-based modeling and simulation (ABMS) and geographic information systems (GIS), Spatial Agent-Based Simulation Modeling in Public Health: Design, Implementation, and Applications for Malaria Epidemiology provides a useful introduction to the development of agent-based models (ABMs) by following a conceptual and biological core model of Anopheles gambiae for malaria epidemiology. Using spatial ABMs, the book includes mosquito (vector) control interventions and GIS as two example applications of ABMs, as well as a brief description of epidemiology modeling. In addition, the authors discuss how to most effectively integrate spatial ABMs with a GIS. The book concludes with a combination of knowledge from entomological, epidemiological, simulation-based, and geo-spatial domains in order to identify and analyze relationships between various transmission variables of the disease. Spatial Agent-Based Simulation Modeling in Public Health: Design, Implementation, and Applications for Malaria Epidemiology also features: Location-specific mosquito abundance maps that play an important role in malaria control activities by guiding future resource allocation for malaria control and identifying hotspots for further investigation Discussions on the best modeling practices in an effort to achieve improved efficacy, cost-effectiveness, ecological soundness, and sustainability of vector control for malaria An overview of the various ABMs, GIS, and spatial statistical methods used in entomological and epidemiological studies, as well as the model malaria study A companion website with computer source code and flowcharts of the spatial ABM and a landscape generator tool that can simulate landscapes with varying spatial heterogeneity of different types of resources including aquatic habitats and houses Spatial Agent-Based Simulation Modeling in Public Health: Design, Implementation, and Applications for Malaria Epidemiology is an excellent reference for professionals such as modeling and simulation experts, GIS experts, spatial analysts, mathematicians, statisticians, epidemiologists, health policy makers, as well as researchers and scientists who use, manage, or analyze infectious disease data and/or infectious disease-related projects. The book is also ideal for graduate-level courses in modeling and simulation, bioinformatics, biostatistics, public health and policy, and epidemiology.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject American Studies - Culture and Applied Geography, grade: 2,3, University of Leipzig (Philologische Fakultät), language: English, abstract: AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to draw a comparison between the Cherokee Nation of the United States and the Aborigines of Australia concerning their economic development. Even though the Cherokee Nation and the Australian Aborigines share similar historical backgrounds with regard to a long lasting mistreatment by their prevailing governments, the Cherokee Nation, in contrast to the Australian Aborigines, has been and continues to experience a more successful economic development. This paper analyzes the reasons underlying this contrast. For that, the historical background of the Australian Aborigines and the Cherokee Nation is examined and compared. Since both of them were mistreated by their prevailing governments, their historical backgrounds are compared and the consequences of the mistreatment are applied to their contemporary economic situations. After that, the contemporary economic situations of the two peoples are compared, whereat the distinction between the Cherokee Nation's economic success and the Aborigine's economic failure becomes apparent. Finally, the reasons for the different economic development are investigated and in how far the affected peoples or even their governments, as in the case of the Australian Aborigines, are responsible for this difference. In the multi-national, cosmopolitan country of Canada, Translation Studies research drawing upon themes of migration and cultural identity has become part of the nation's literary make up. These issues represent areas of cultural and linguistic defiance and reconciliation that migrant writers, translators, novelists, poets and literary artists have carefully examined. In sharing in this rich literary heritage, this book seeks to determine the abiding concepts fundamental to the migrant identity, and how it finds relevance in the themes of translation and cultural identity. It distinctly emphasizes the poetic form of migrant writings of the self and links theoretical notions of migration and identity in Translation Studies. Through an analysis of the poetry of Marie-Célie Agnant, it presents a representation of Agnant's migrant persona and offers a clear perspective on how migration has shaped her work as a female Haitian poet and author living in Quebec.

Uncontrolled rapid urban growth due to built-up area expansion over the last few decades has created critical problems to urban planners. Therefore, it is worth to identify spatial distribution pattern of built-up area in a town. Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) provide a great potential for urban data collection & spatial analysis and not much academic literature exists on how to best utilize these technologies for urban studies. Traditional approaches to data collection and analysis no longer adequate to provide updated information for urban planners. This book, therefore, introduces alternative techniques for data collection, updating, detection of built-up area change and unauthorised constructions, identifying urban spatial distribution pattern considering built-up area density. New GIS spatial analysis techniques such as weighted mean centre and spatial autocorrelation tools introduced. These analysis techniques should help to shed light on the field of urban planning, and should be especially useful to students and professionals in urban planning or anyone else who may be considering utilizing RS and GIS for urban spatial structure analysis.

The book has depicted the significant link between armed conflict, migration and vulnerability of young Nepalese migrant workers. Various data show that after the beginning of insurgency in February 1996 and its culmination in 2001 due to security deterioration, many Nepalese citizens especially youth started migrating to India and other countries with the purpose of living better life. Have they got a better environment to live? The book has attempted to provide the answer to this key research question. Therefore, the readers of this book can elicit information on the situation of Nepalese migrant workers vis-à-vis their living and working conditions in India.

The book uses these findings to identify a solution to remedy our ills: it is to build new form of governance around the concept of human dignity and living a dignified human existence. The book proposes the new form be an eco-cultural community, a community defined both by its naturally occurring bio-system and by the economic and cultural identity of the people involved therein. And the book challenges all Americans to overthrow our republican form of government, by engaging in a Campaign for Human Dignity, supported technically as that campaign would be through the Human Dignity Project, which would ensure increasing enfranchisement and not segregation.

Economic activities are not concentrated on the head of a pin, nor are they spread evenly over a featureless plane. On the contrary, they are distributed very unequally across locations, regions, and countries. Even though economic activities are, to some extent, spatially concentrated because of natural features, economic mechanisms that rely on the trade-off between various forms of increasing returns and different types of mobility costs are more fundamental. This book is a study of the economic reasons for the existence of a large variety of agglomerations arising from the global to the local. This second edition combines a comprehensive analysis of the fundamentals of spatial economics and an in-depth discussion of the most recent theoretical developments in new economic geography and urban economics. It aims to highlight several of the major economic trends observed in modern societies.

Diploma Thesis from the year 2007 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: 1,7, Helmut Schmidt University - University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg (Professur für Volkswirtschaftslehre, insb. Finanzwissenschaft), language: English, abstract: This paper addresses a ma jor paradox of the economic world, the seemingly negative impact of wealth in form of natural resources and development aid on growth. In the last 50 years a striking discrepancy in the economic performance of countries blessed by massive windfall gains became obvious. Robust empirical evidence was produced showing an inverse relation of both natural resources and development aid on economic growth. Regressions involving migrant's remittances did also yield ambiguous results under certain conditions. I try to embrace all windfall gains under the notion of "Easy Rents", characterised by easy generation of, easy access to and easy control over the abundant monetary assets. The influence of the rents is proposed to work through biased price distortions, induced by sectoral competition, rent-seeking and \bad" economic policy, creating unfavourable conditions for the growth-driving tradables sector. The conducted research and empirical testing indicates the appreciation of relative prices caused by political and economic disturbance. Following the results, a strong tendency of "Easy Rents" to exert deteriorating influence on a economy seems to be in place.

The spatial variation of soil nutrients such as soil P is becoming important because of the use of STP as a basis for policies such as the EU-introduced Nitrate Directive. Traditionally, fertilizers have been applied to grasslands based on soil test results, without considering within-field spatial variability. Such agricultural management may be inefficient due to under-application or over-application in specific sites. Under-application zones do not reach optimal levels of grass yield whereas in over-application areas there will be an increase of costs and high risk of environmental pollution such as runoff with high P or nitrogen (N) concentrations which can cause water eutrophication. This book, therefore, provides a combined spatial analysis method (geostatistics, GIS and Moran's I) to reveal spatial pattern and to produce spatial distribution maps of soil nutrients at field- and farm- scales in temporate grasslands. Such information can provide useful information for agronomic and environmental management. Furthermore, the method should be useful for studying spatial variation of environmental variables.

An important guide to assessing and managing the environment from a landscape perspective Ecological relationships are nested within the landscape. Identifying the relevant spatial and temporal scales is critical for an effective understanding of ecological functions that human societies depend upon. Moreover, human encroachment into natural areas, or changes in climate, can alter spatial relationships, which in turn can negatively affect vital plant and wildlife patterns—and weaken economic structures needed to sustain human societies. This book is the first to combine multiple disciplines into one cohesive strategy to study these crucial connections, and looks toward building a social paradigm that embraces the dynamics of ecological systems. This book: Integrates landscape ecology, environmental risk assessment, valuation of ecological goods and services, and environmental management decision processes into one single source Includes chapters on quantitative measures, Bayesian modeling,¿economic analysis, and sustainable landscapes Covers marine, forest, agricultural, and pharmaceutical risk assessment Has a chapter on predicting climate change risk to ecosystems Has a companion ftp site with color graphics, animations, and risk assessment tools With material that is accessible across all knowledge levels, Environmental Risk Assessment and Management from a Landscape Perspective moves beyond looking solely at chemical contaminants to diagnose environmental threats, and aims to accomplish practical risk assessment in a manner that supports long-term sustainable management.

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2016 in the subject Art - Architecture / History of Construction, grade: 2.5, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology), language: English, abstract: Organized retail formats are growing twice as fast as their traditional counterparts. But, in spite of that, the mall management is concerned about the rising rate of vacancy leading to economic unsustainability. The reason for high mall vacancy rates can be ascribed to faulty tenant placement and irrational rental plan. Existing studies on the tenant-mix-decisions focus more on inter store externality and not on the spatial logic. Moreover, normal industry practice follows rule-of-thumb instead of any scientific approach. A bid-rent model for profit maximization of individual stores is solved to identify the relationship between area allocation and rental decision with the customer density at that point. The customer density in turn depends on the accessibility and explained through visibility graph analysis and agent based simulation. The findings support the superiority of configurational characteristic over metric distances. A model for profit maximization of the entire shopping mall is proposed to explain the tenanting, rental and anchor rent subsidization decisions based on logic of spatial configuration. Space planning, in this way, can be considered as a tool for strategic decision making instead of ...

Economic Women: Essays on Desire and Dispossession in Nineteenth-Century British Culture, edited by Lana L. Dalley and Jill Rappoport, showcases the wide-ranging economic activities and relationships of real and fictional women in nineteenth-century British culture. This volume's essays chronicle the triumphs and setbacks of women who developed, described, contested, and exploited new approaches to economic thought and action. In their various roles as domestic employees, activists fighting for free trade, theorists developing statistical models, and individuals considering the cost of marriage and its dissolution, the women discussed here were givers and takers, producers and consumers.Bringing together leading and emerging voices in the field, this collection builds on the wealth of interdisciplinary economic criticism published in the last twenty years, but it also challenges traditional understandings of economic subjectivity by emphasizing both private and public records and refusing to identify a single female corollary to Economic Man. The scholars presented here recover game-changing stories of women's economic engagement from diaries, letters, ledgers, fiction, periodicals, and travel writing to reveal a nuanced portrait of Economic Women. The paper applies the neoclassical economic growth theory to the Russia's economy during 1990-2013, explaining the importance of foreign oil price changes, inflow of migrants and its geostrategic location towards global trading - including arm sales to notorious North Korea and Iran - to its annual output growth. I also explained the relative correlations between domestic, internal variables, such as changes in legislation/tax reformations, savings and the growth rates achieved periodically for comparative reasons. Future forecasts approved that the growth has been stabilized in a near-term and will become increasingly more depended on the number of Central Asian and other area migrant workers as long as the negative spread between birth and death rates hold in the long-term. And investment in IT industry and attracting foreign hi-tech investments are highly recommended to increase the factor productivity and lessen the oil dependency in the long term. In the real world, there are numerous and various events that occur on and alongside networks, including the occurrence of traffic accidents on highways, the location of stores alongside roads, the incidence of crime on streets and the contamination along rivers. In order to carry out analyses of those events, the researcher needs to be familiar with a range of specific techniques. Spatial Analysis Along Networks provides a practical guide to the necessary statistical techniques and their computational implementation. Each chapter illustrates a specific technique, from Stochastic Point Processes on a Network and Network Voronoi Diagrams, to Network K-function and Point Density Estimation Methods, and the Network Huff Model. The authors also discuss and illustrate the undertaking of the statistical tests described in a Geographical Information System (GIS) environment as well as demonstrating the user-friendly free software package SANET. Spatial Analysis Along Networks: Presents a much-needed practical guide to statistical spatial analysis of events on and alongside a network, in a logical, user-friendly order. Introduces the preliminary methods involved, before detailing the advanced, computational methods, enabling the readers a complete understanding of the advanced topics. Dedicates a separate chapter to each of the major techniques involved. Demonstrates the practicalities of undertaking the tests described in the book, using a GIS. Is supported by a supplementary website, providing readers with a link to the free software package SANET, so they can execute the statistical methods described in the book. Students and researchers studying spatial statistics, spatial analysis, geography, GIS, OR, traffic accident analysis, criminology, retail marketing, facility management and ecology will benefit from this book.

Businesses exist to provide goods and services to customers and in so doing they take risks. Among these risks is the chance of losing money in lawsuits filed by customers, employees, and others negatively impacted by the business. Insurance provides some protection against these liabilities, but lawsuits still take their toll. This book covers the subject of economic damages and its role in insurance claims and lawsuits against businesses. After reading and understanding this book, the reader will be able to identify economic damages as a component of business liability, describe the business risk posed by economic damages, explain the key determinants of economic damages, and estimate economic damages and business loss in a variety of cases.
