Vector control is a method for dynamic control of the speed torque and power factor of the induction motor through permanent control of the intensity and the angle of the space vectors of the electromagnetic variables. The basic idea of the Field Oriented Control (FOC) algorithm is decoupling the stator current into flux and torque producing components. Both components can be controlled separately after decoupling. The structure of the motor controller is then as simple as that for a separately excited DC motor. Direct vector FOC control system is based on measurement, acquisition and (or) estimation of the space angle of the rotor's flux. Unlike the control system which is oriented to the space vector of the rotor's flux, on the dynamic model in a d-q coordinate system of IM and PWM of the voltage inverter, thereby using linear control technique and linear controllers, the direct torque control systems (DTC) are based on the space angle of the stator flux, on the dynamic model of the induction motor in a stationary frame of reference and on the space-vector modulation of the inverter. DTC method is based on non-linear control techniques and non-linear controllers.

A midcourse guidance law based on minimum flight time optimal control formulation is developed based on singular perturbation technique (SPT). Singular perturbation techniques are used to simplify the optimal control problem. The resulting near-optimal control problem does not require the solution of any TPBVP. The guidance law, which is obtained through application of SPT on the optimal control problem, is tested using five degree-of-freedom (5 DOF) mathematical model of an air-to-air missile. The concept of minimum flight time and conserved energy during the terminal part of flight is studied for Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (MRAAM) through the interception problem against non-maneuvering target by controlling the thrust magnitude and the burning time for the booster and sustainer missile motors. It can be noted that the missile performance using the technique of pulse ignition control motor (PICM) through the guidance gives much improvement over the boost-sustain missile motor.

The electromagnetic interference (EMI), which resulted from the high rates of changes of voltage and current, has become a major design criterion in DC-DC converters due to wide applications of various electronic devices in industry and daily life, and the question of how to reduce the annoying, harmful EMI has attracted much research interest. This book focuses on the analysis and application of chaos to reduce harmful EMI of DC-DC converters. After a review of the fundamentals of chaos behaviors of DC-DC converters, the authors present some recent findings such as Symbolic Entropy, Complexity and Chaos Point Process, to analyze the characters of chaotic DC-DC converters. Using these methods, the statistic characters of chaotic DC-DC converters are extracted and the foundations for the following researches of chaotic EMI suppression are reinforced. The focus then transfers to estimating the power spectral density of chaotic PWM converters behind an introduction of basic principles of spectrum analysis and chaotic PWM technique. A comparison study has been done between selected methods and some other technique which showed that the proposed controller has setting time less than other methods by 40%.

The proposed novel dc-dc battery charger has advantages with the simplicity, low cost, high efficiency and the behavior of easy control under the ZCS condition accordingly reducing the switching losses. The detailed study of operating principle and circuit design consideration is performed. A short survey of battery charging system, capacity demand & its topological is also presented. In order to compute LC resonant pair values in conventional converter, the method of characteristic curve is used and electric function equations are derived from the prototype configuration. The efficient performance of charging shaping is confirmed through the practical examines and verification of the results is revealed by the MATLAB simulation. This work presents the synthesis of a motor with hysteresis motor torque-speed characteristic. The machine is synthesized from a conventional squirrel cage induction motor (SCIM) with high rotor resistance to leakage reactance ratio and a polyphase transfer field (TF) reluctance effect machine with an inverted torque-speed characteristics about the speed axis. Both motors are mechanically coupled and are connected in parallel to the supply. It is shown that the resultant torque which is the summation of the torques of the two component machines is approximately constant from standstill to synchronous speed ωo, typical of hysteresis motor. Unlike the conventional hysteresis motor, the output torque of the synthesized version is much higher than the former.

A single machine single load system (SMSL) is setup in the laboratory with an Alternator feeding a single phase Induction motor. In the first case the impact of SVC on bus voltage with open loop mode of control is observed. Secondly an automatic control circuit is implemented using LPC 2148 Microcontroller. Test system is tested with automatic control circuit and results have been presented.

The robot meets the requirements from the „RoboRama Contest”, followed a T-shape course, and obtained more (safety) features. Different kinds of design features and digital algorithms were developed and tested, in order to achieve the best results. Applied project management techniques and used key skills, guaranteed the successful completion of the project, in the design and construction of hardware and software technologies. The hardware was based on a block structure with infrared sensors at the front of the vehicle. Their analogue signals were transferred to digital logic with a comparator. This information used a PIC 16F84A microcontroller to control the movement and direction of the robot with pulse width modulation (PWM). All parts were mounted on a chassis, implemented with a mechanical construction set. Batteries of 9V provided the necessary power supply. Adjustments were done through iterative steps, to come to the final result of the robot system. The main adapted design feature was the motor and steering system. First of all a separate servomotor for the steering and a single DC motor for the forward movement was fixed. However, these control schemes are complex and hard to apply to actual implementation. Hence, this book presents two-degree-of-freedom position control schemes for ultrasonic linear motor using pseudo-derivative control with feedforward gains (PDFF) controller and I-PD controller incorporating with an input shaper, both designed by the coefficient diagram method (CDM), which is an efficient and simple method to design the parameters of controllers. The purpose of this project has been to study, operate and program the 32-bit 150MIPS TMS320F2812 DSP developed by Texas Instruments Inc. In addition, it has also been a goal to implement fast estimation techniques for control of resonant converters. For this purpose, PWM signals that are generated using this DSP are used. The demands on the system and the hardware to solve the problem were already decided when I started the work.The algorithms were programmed in C/C++ language, compiled, debugged and transferred to the DSP development board in a compiling and simulation tool (downloader), called CCS (Code Composer Studio v2), also provided by Texas Instruments.In the first chapters of this study I give general information about control systems, digital signal processors, digital signal processing and the DSP used in this work. The following chapters tell about PWM, how to configure the PWM outputs and some examples related with PWM signals are given. After a short review of series resonant converters, I presented the last example implemented in this project. I conclude with a summary and provide some hints of future work.

A large part of electrical energy consumption goes to induction motor (IM) which is serving to industries and it is known that efficiency is drastically reduced in these motors at part-load operation. The part-load operation of induction motors cannot be avoided in many industrial applications like spinning drive in textile industry, hoist drive in mineral industry, pumps in all types of process industries, etc. The part load efficiency and power factor of the induction motor can be improved by adapting the magnetizing level in the motor in accordance with load torque and speed and, hence, motor should either be fed through an inverter or redesigned with optimization algorithms. Furthermore, a small increment in the efficiency of these motors by providing better control or optimum design can result in substantial saving in the long period. Uniformity in the setup of main objective and was successfully achieved.The setup consists of an inlet plenum with baffle to reduce turbulence or splashing, honeycomb structure, converging section, test section and wide angle diffuser and outlet module suitable low power single phase motor was selected for continuous flow of water in the setup. The water was recirculated using this motor and appropriate plumbing system.All the components were designed, analyzed, constructed and installed successfully .General purpose polymer was used as a ground material for the fabrication purpose. Necessary up gradations were made during various stages of the project. Flow visualization over the test bodies was successfully visualized using a dye injection system.

This work is aimed to understand the effectiveness of using this technique in multispectral satellite imagery and to study its effectiveness in different regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. This work also aimed in analyzing variations of spatial and spectral resolutions of a sensor affect the performance of the CLAHE technique by means of comparing quantitative parameters of the enhanced images between the sensors. A new performance parameter called Degree of Contrast Enhancement (DCE) has also been formulated so as to quantify the amount of increase/decrease in contrast between the enhanced and original images on application of the CLAHE algorithm on it. A general idea of the feature that can be enhanced in each spectral region was also studied. The results showed that the technique was most effective for shorter wavelengths when compared to longer wavelength regions. Optimal reactive power and voltage control for distribution system involves the installation of fixed shunt capacitors and tap changing voltage regulators along distribution feeders. This can improve voltage profiles for all end-use customers and reduce real power losses. In this book, the fuzzy logic optimization technique is studied and applied to solve the capacitor allocation problem in radial distribution systems. Using voltage regulator for voltage control of radial distribution systems is also studied to allow more loss reduction and to improve the whole system voltage profile. The applicability of the fuzzy logic technique in the field of capacitor placement problem is discussed. Modifications are made to existing fuzzy membership functions to obtain better results. Also, an approach using tap-changing voltage regulators is applied to maintain the voltage profile on a general radial distribution system within a pre-specified bandwidth. In addition, the action of the regulators is studied to provide the best possible profile while maximally decreasing system losses; this is done by controlling the regulator tap positions.

The high thermal stresses generated at the contacting surfaces of single-clutch system (pressure plate, clutch disc and flywheel) due to the frictional heating during the slipping, This thermal stresses are consider one of the main reasons of clutch failure for contact surfaces. A finite element technique has been used to study the transient thermoelastic phenomena of a dry clutch system (single and multi-discs systems). The effect of sliding speed, thickness of friction material and the boundary conditions on contact pressure distribution, temperature field and heat flux generated along the frictional surfaces is investigated. Analysis has been completed using two dimensional axisymmetric model to simulate the clutch system.

We performed comparative tests of the two well-known MPPT 'the Perturbation and observation' (P&O) and the 'Incremental Conductance' (IncCond) algorithms using actual irradiance data for different climate conditions, and also explained of various MPPT algorithms and the modeling of PV module is discussed in this thesis.The PV pumping system with DC motor-pump load is simulated and described, whose study is carried out by using SimPowerSystem in MATLAB/SIMULINK and the model is then transfer into MATLAB. The whole system is implemented in MATLAB simulation, and verifies the functionality and benefits of MPPT. Artificial insemination (AI) has been accepted as the primary breeding tool in genetic upgrading programmes in Sri Lanka.AI technique has been used to raise the genetic potential of cattle by using genetically superior bulls. Use of sexed semen for AI is now a reality for many cattle breeders.Sperm sexing with density gradient is more appropriate to Jaffna Peninsula because of the lower cost and without damages to sperm viability. Thus the present study was undertaken to improve the quality of AI service in Northern Province and separate X and Y-bearing bovine sperm by using a discontinuous sucrose density gradient. In conclusion the discontinuous sucrose density gradients can be considered as low cost tool for sperm sexing of bovine semen.

In this study, the aim is to implement integration of design analysis and control procedures of an hexapod planned to use medical operations whereas required micro positioning. Hexapods with their high accuracy, high stiffness and dynamic properties are widely used parallel robots in such areas, medical, aviation, astronomy. In this study a method is developed to integrate all required engineering procedures for design and control of robots and applied to hexapod. In solid modeling SolidWorks (Dassault Systems, 2007), in machine dynamics analysis, CosmosMotion, in finite element rigidity analysis CosmosWorks software packages and in motor control software of ADLINK company are used. With VisualBasic software package integration is established by using API ("Application programming interface") of software and ActiveX control properties. Using this method parametric modeling software is developed and hexapod prototype is designed, then manufactured. Again with this method point to point and trajectory motion control software is developed. In addition in this study a mechanical solution for reducing backlash has been designed and applied to the prototype.

The classic approach in Automatic Control relies on the use of simplified models of the systems and reformulations of the specifications. In this framework, the control law can be computed using deterministic algorithms. However, this approach fails when the system is too complex for its model to be sufficiently simplified, when the designer has many constraints to take into account, or when the goal is not only to design a control but also to optimize it. This book presents a new trend in Automatic Control with the use of metaheuristic algorithms. These kinds of algorithm can optimize any criterion and constraint, and therefore do not need such simplifications and reformulations. The first chapter outlines the author’s main motivations for the approach which he proposes, and presents the advantages which it offers. In Chapter 2, he deals with the problem of system identification. The third and fourth chapters are the core of the book where the design and optimization of control law, using the metaheuristic method (particle swarm optimization), is given. The proposed approach is presented along with real-life experiments, proving the efficiency of the methodology.
