This study examined the relationship between stress and depression, and the mediating role of spiritual factors (spiritual experience, spiritual coping, and forgiveness) among 316 older adults, 65 years or older in assisted living facilities (ALFs). Hierarchical regression analysis revealed that a high level of stress was associated with a high level of depression among older residents. For male residents, a Sobel test indicated that the direct coefficient of stress on depression decreased when spiritual coping and forgiveness were mediated. However, there was no significant mediating role of spiritual factors for stress and depression among female residents. This study suggests the importance of providing spiritual support for older men who are dealing with significant stress as a way to minimize depressive symptoms.

WHO defines the “young people” as those aged between 10 & 24 years. The common image of being young is one of relative freedom from ill-health. However, nearly 10% of the global burden of disease is borne by young people; it is a time of first sexual encounters that predispose to unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS. To examine the unmet sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs of university students, between June and July 2005,9 FDGs & 6 individual interviews were conducted among students and staff of Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda. Whereas students are sexually active, safe sex services were insufficiently availed at students’ services centres. Students’ unmet SRH needs could increase risk of HIV/AIDS,unwanted pregnancies and abusive relationships. Female students are more vulnerable because of their involvement in relationships with older boyfriends and community demand for marriage plans after school. Lack of awareness about SRH issues, poor life negotiating skills and lack of confidence in the available services are considered as key unmet SRH needs of student.

Whereas this was quite efficient for some time, due to the expansion of the library and increase in the number of students, the system wastes a lot of time especially when searching for a particular book or resource. In response to this problem, more librarians have been added (employed), and this has escalated the cost of managing the library. This inefficiency, led to the study that was aimed at automating the book keeping function of the library.A study was carried out at Kampala International University Dar salaam Campus and it was discovered that the manual system had inefficiencies ranging from time wastage, high cost of operation in terms of human resources, long search time, data redundancy among others. A computer based library management system was developed using visual studio. The new system allows the user to add books into the system, search for books from the system database, track member information, manage borrowing among others.By automating library operations, the university will enjoy the advantages of using databases and transaction processing systems.

Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: 5.5/6, University of Zurich, language: English, abstract: Supervisory stress tests conducted in recent years by the European Banking Authority (EBA) provided potentially useful information to banks' management. This paper examines empirically the hypothesis that the stress test results published have influence on banks' ongoing risk mitigation efforts. The hypothesis rests on the evidence that stress tests have induced a reaction in bank equity and debt markets, which in turn sends a clear market signal to banks' management. The concept of market discipline implies that market prices can influence the banks' management in terms of their risk mitigation decisions. Using a difference-in-differences approach, it is measured how banks reacted to their respective stress test results. The evaluation shows a general rise in risk mitigation efforts of EU banks when looking at average total capital ratios since 2007. However, the results do reject the hypothesis that banks with low stress test scores have a stronger incentive to mitigate risk after the stress test publication. Yet low score banks demonstrate that adequate capital buffers were already set in place long before the stress test results. The higher capital buffers are reflected in above average total capital ratios of low score banks. This fact indicates that these banks might h...

Fifty percent of Headteachers, 90% of the deputies, 50% of Board of Governors, 23% of teachers participated in the study. The findings showed that not in all transfer cases are the Board of Governors consulted. Thus, they are forced either to accept or reject the new headteacher. It was also established that transfer of a headteacher has an effect on staff management because the new head may differs from the old, in terms of personality and interpersonal skills and attitudes, experience and the style of leadership. To a lesser extent, the Management of students'discipline was interfered with especially after the transfer of a disciplinarian headteacher. The Ministry of Education and Sports is advised to work hand in hand with all the stakeholders to be involved in the process of headteacher transfers. Further studies are needed to understand transfers of headteachers of other types of schools in the Education sector in Uganda and neighboring states of the East African region.

This paper seeks to outline the decisions necessary and the responsibilities of the role-players in making for a smooth transition into the workplace. The nature of a career is clarified and its complexity is highlighted with the mentor's role being paramount to the induction of the new staff member into the organisation. The management team plays a critical role in ensuring opportunities for social interaction and the establishment of challenging job functions for the subordinates. In addition, in my mind the motivation of the staff is crucial in ensuring continued success in the workplace. I have outlined what constitutes motivation of a staff member and have utilised reference to Maslow's hierarchy and Alderfer's ERG theory to explain the levels of need that each staff member seeks to have met in order to remain motivated in the working environment. While the meeting of the employees' needs are crucial, setting goals for the individual and the organisation is a key function of the management team in ensuring continued motivation among its staff members. When the staff member feels that they are part of the decision making process and their voice is being heard, they are intrinsically more motivated towards ...

In stark contrast to the shrill and nasty interactions among many Christians regarding contentious LGBT issues, this book models a redemptive mode of engagement by featuring respectful conversations among deeply committed Christians who hold to diverging traditional and non-traditional views. The foundational values guiding these conversations are the quest for truth, giving the gift of love to all brothers and sisters in Christ, and modeling Christian unity. Emerging from these conversations are practical steps for a way forward that include creating safe spaces for ongoing conversation and practicing courageous Christian leadership. Based on case studies for a Christian university and two Christian churches, this book provides helpful advice for navigating conflict within churches, Christian denominations, and Christian educational institutions.""Through several different channels, Harold Heie has worked very hard at getting Christian believers to talk to each other directly, even on sensitive issues like the subject of this book. As someone who leans strongly toward traditional views on sexuality and marriage, I find myself leaning even more strongly toward efforts at encouraging charity, mutual comprehension, and respect for the extraordinary diversity within the body of Christ. This book should be appreciated by all who share a commitment to those ideals."" --Mark Noll, University of Notre Dame""Harold Heie has an excellent track record as a conve...

In eastern Uganda, soils have been characterised as limited in Nitrogen. Soil management technologies were therefore incorporated into farming systems in Tororo district, eastern Uganda. The objectives were to determine: the optimal combinations of legume cover crops or biomass transfer species and inorganic fertilizers for replenishing fertility; the acceptance levels and the farmer perceptions of 8 shrub- and tree species. Partial budgeting, linear programming analysis and descriptive statistics were used as analytical tools. 100% Mucuna pruriens incorporation and 0.9 t ha-1 Tithonia diversifolia incorporation with an inorganic nitrogen application at the rate of 30 kilograms hectare-1 were found to be the optimal soil management options on 0.045 and 0.872 hectares of land respectively, with investment costs of 495,120 Uganda Shillings. The major problematic aspects were technology accessibility and labour constraints. The strengthening of advisory services, government facilitated input delivery through private sector supply would play a critical role in soil fertility replenishment in Uganda.

A volume in Stress and Quality of Working LifeSeries Editors: Ana Maria Rossi, International Stress Management Association; Pamela L. Perrewé, Florida State University; James A. Meurs, University of Calgary It is an unfortunate reality that many employees experience elevated levels of stress at work. Feeling stressed has impacts beyond mere emotions. For example, a survey of European Union member states found that 28% of employees reported stress-related illness or health issues, and studies in the USA have found that over 25% of employees reported that they are often or very often burned out by their work. Also, not all stress should be or can be eliminated, as many industries and jobs are highly demanding in their nature. Therefore, it is important that employees, employers, clinicians, and researchers endeavor to develop a better understanding of workplace stressors and how employee health and well-being can be improved. This book can help individuals and organizations better appreciate stressors faced by employees. It showcases research by over two dozen authors in twelve chapters, focusing on the interpersonal and occupation-based sources of workplace stress, as well as how to alleviate work stress. Coworkers, supervisors, and others with whom a person works can have a dramatic influence on the degree of stress a worker experiences, and it is often the interpersonal conflict that is unrelated to one's job that is the most difficult to manage. In addition, the context ...

This research paper investigated the effectiveness of money as motivator for academic staff in higher learning institutions. The subjects of the study were 26 workers of Tumaini University Dar es Salaam College, the subjects were divided into two groups; senior management and academic staff. 25 questionnaires were issued to academic staff and an interview was conducted with the principal human resource officer. In spite of other relevant theories, the study was keenly guided by the Herzberg two-factor theory that argued "trying to use money is an inferior way to motivate an employee".Quantitative and qualitative techniques of data analysis were employed. The findings of the study revealed that the effectiveness of money as motivator for academic staff was limited or affected by some motivating factors and not affected or unlimited by others. In the concern of the implications, the limitations and suggestions for future research studies, they are discussed in the final chapter.

Master's Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Medicine - Public Health, grade: Merit, University of Portsmouth, language: English, abstract: Influenza pandemics represent natural phenomena that occur at irregular intervals throughout the centuries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a pandemic is triggered when an influenza virus which was not previously circulating among humans and to which most people don't have immunity emerges and transmits among humans. In essence, a pandemic influenza could lead to numerous contemporaneous epidemics all over the world with high amounts of cases and deaths. Due to increasing global transport and urbanisation, pandemics triggered by a new influenza virus would spread rapidly around the world (WHO, 2005). Therefore, it is important that authorities are prepared to recognise and manage pandemic influenza and, in this way, minimise its destructive potential on economy and society. Thus, it might be within the bounds of possibility to limit the spread of the pandemic influenza virus strain, which would lead to a reduction of the number of hospitalisations and fatalities. This dissertation aims at analysing the status quo of pandemic influenza preparedness in Portsmouth and the University of Portsmouth, respectively. Beyond that, it intends to gain an impression of the level of awareness towards pandemic influenza among students of the University of Portsmouth. The dissertation focuses on the following aspects:(1) Wha...

Because of the growing acceptance of project work there is growing need for qualified staff for managing projects. Morris and Pinto reported that development and recognition of a distinct profession of project management has certainly been a strong driver in the development of standards for project management. "A body of knowledge, standards and related assessment and qualification processes can therefore be seen as essential building blocks in the formation and recognition of a profession."According to Kuster et al. there are two main organisations certifying project management skills: International Project Management Association (IPMA) and Project Management Institute (PMI). The scope of this term paper is to verify the truth of this statement and to provide a critical and comparative market overview about different project management certifications as well as certification methods.
