Investigating the complex relationship between perfectionism and academic achievement, advanced students and researchers are introduced to different conceptualizations and measures of perfectionism in the opening chapter. Subsequent chapters of this book then provide an in-depth exploration of factors known to influence perfectionism such as parenting, attachment, and personality, as well as academic outcomes such as motivation, stress, burnout, anxiety, and procrastination. The book highlights avenues for future research to extend the exploration of perfectionism and academic achievement. The authors propose a theoretical model for future work on perfectionism and academic achievement and discuss additional areas that, while less well researched, deserve attention for their potential influence on how perfectionism may impact academic achievement.

Over the last few years, the use of Information and Communication Technologies has increased exponentially, and some of these technologies are among the most used, such as Computers and Internet. With this boom in popularity has also come a rise in the need for implementing technology to our curriculum. In this context, very little academic literature exists on how to best utilize Information and communication technologies for improved academic performance and achievement, especially in developing countries. Traditional approaches to teaching and learning are no longer adequate, as technology has completely radicalized our day-to-day life. This book, therefore, provides a new metric of success for curriculum developers to the student-centered approach to teaching. The analysis should help shed some light on this new and exciting student-centered approach to teaching and learning, and how ICT positively impacts students' study habits and academic performance and should be especially useful to professionals in Education and Communication fields,or anyone else who may be considering utilizing Information and Communication technologies as a supplement to teaching and learning.

Education is regarded as the potential instrument of social change that is thought desirable at a particular point of time. It is intended to bring about social upliftment, political awareness and promotion of economic growth of the masses in general. Governments of different countries have therefore taken up the responsibilities of universalizing school education and widening the access to tertiary and teacher education. It has been ensured not only in the constitution of most of the countries but also in the international charter of UNO and UNESCO. Academic achievement is of paramount importance, particularly in the present socio-economic and cultural contexts. There is a need to identify the psycho-sociological factors, which influence the academic achievement of D.Ed. students, in order to draw conclusions and suggest remedial measures and to improve appropriate skills. It is rather interesting to know which of the variables of self efficacy, emotional intelligence, achievement motivation, socio-economic status and socio-demographic etc contribute to the academic achievement.

Differences between individuals can be described in innumerable ways which can accordingly categorize each person on the basis of his/her particularly prominent intelligence types. What this means in educational contexts is that different learning styles are accompanied with different intelligences in individuals. If learner’s intelligence can be identified, then the teachers can teach different learners successfully according to their unique orientation towards learning. Intelligence also plays a very important role in academic achievement. Only Intelligence cannot provide assurance of academic achievement, study skills are also necessary for getting good grades in academics.

Over the past decades educational and political leaders attempted to improve school performance. Yet still, there remain immense gaps in academic achievement between schools with high and low poverty rates. The expected gains to close the gap have not been achieved by the policies implemented, nor from the threats of sanctions for districts, school leaders, and teachers. The purpose of this quantitative study was to answer a primary question: Can specific leadership influence (LI), collective teacher efficacy (CTE), and socioeconomic status (SES) predict either alone or in combination, student achievement scores in Title I elementary schools? The study investigated the constructs' effects exclusively among Title I elementary schools. The focus of analysis in this study included 23 Title I Schools. Among the schools, 308 teachers responded to the Collective Teacher Efficacy Scale and 265 responded to the Principal Instructional Management Rating Scale. Multiple regression analysis determined LI, CTE, and SES, together, were significant predictors of student achievement, explaining 65.2% of the variability in reading scores and 48.9% of the variability in math scores.

This was investigated through four case studies of leadership in disadvantaged schools to identify leadership practices, skills and attitudes employed by successful principals to enhance student achievement. The study identified seven elements of effective leadership comprising strategies for improving academic standards in these schools. This study is the first to specifically focus on the role played by Ghanaian principals of disadvantaged rural schools in improving academic achievement. The findings will inform professional learning programs used to enhance principals’ leadership capabilities. This book not only affirmed the import of Western educational scholarship through its erudite literature review but ingeniously established its interconnectedness with specific African educational strategies such as school and local community partnerships for recruiting resources. The book is the culmination of research conducted on motivation, self-regulation and reasoning. The aim is to better understand how these three factors interact to impact learning and academic achievement. The resulting research is applicable to all learners, however it is intended to provide insight into how to best address the academic underachievement of under-represented populations, such as minority males. The final chapters of the book provide results suggesting that significant relationships exists between reasoning, motivation, and self-regulation, which warrant additional research on their interrelationships and resulting impact on academic achievement. In particular, another type of reasoning, critical reasoning, will likely have a greater impact on linking present and future regulatory systems.

Two schools located in the same neighbourhood that have approximately the same size, serving the same community, enrolling students those have relatively the same socio economic background attain different students’ academic success. Some school students’ academic achievement may exceed academic achievement of others. What causes these differences has been challenging question for different scholars since 1960s. Researchers attempted to determine what factors create effective schools. The study revealed that due to the low status of the domains of school effectiveness in the study area schools are not fully achieving their predetermined goals. Repetition rate at grade eight increased continuously from year to year. It was 30% in 2008/09, 42.2% in 2009/2010 and reached 49.7% in 2010/11. This shows that nearly half percentage of the education cost allocated for this grade level was not being used to produce the desired outputs. This book is highly contributed for the region in particular and Ethiopian primary schools in general to assess the current status of domains of school improvement with the ultimate purpose of improving school effectiveness in their localities.

They have however not taken university education as a priority. The upper secondary education however has received little attention by governments and donor agencies a...

Seminar paper from the year 1991 in the subject Sociology - Work, Profession, Education, Organisation, grade: A, University of the West Indies (School of Education), course: Sociology of Education, language: English, abstract: 'The Determinants of Academic Achievement' have been the subject of much discussion in the past and up to recent times. Extensive studies have been done and diverse conclusions have been reached. Earlier research was centered on developed countries, but recent times have seen an emphasis on developing countries and this has given rise to much controversy over the extent to which school and non-school factors influence academic achievement and the educational benefits of increasing expenditure on policy controlled schooling variables. The observation has been made by Simmons and Alexander (1980) that home background or parental socio-economic status generally has a stronger influence on student performance at primary and lower secondary grades than the policy-controlled schooling variables. Their conclusions were drawn, in part, from a review of a number of studies conducted by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) in developed countries. Using the education production function (EPF) approach, Simmons and Alexander sought to equate the relative cost of school inputs to the relative value of outputs. Their conclusions have been variously supported, challenged or contradicted by previous and subsequent res...

As children grow, they transition from home to school environments, where they acquire and master knowledge and skills, and develop an image of themselves as learners and develop several types of relationships with adults as they grow. As they enter and remain in school, these relationships expand from being solely with parents and caretakers to include their teachers. Due to the large amount of time children spend in school, it is important to examine and understand how the school environment and its affordances, and the relationships that children form while there, influence their lives and, especially, their academic success or failure. This book examines the influence of student-teacher relationships and teacher support on the academic achievement and satisfaction with school for K-5 students. The study used longitudinal growth modeling, specifically, cross-classified random effects modeling, to examine the effect of these relationships on students' performance. The results provide insights on how these relationships affect achievement of specific groups of students.
